I was referred to Gary Chimes to identify the cause of deep and excruciating inner thigh pain occurring almost exclusively at night. While I believe Gary is competent as a doctor, his manner and way of interacting with me was crass, condescending and beyond rude. Let me give you an example. On my second appointment Chimes performed an ultra sound and gave me a numbing shot to see if that would isolate the muscle or tendon he suspected was causing the pain. When I explained I had ZERO pain at that time, because all of my discomfort occurred at night, he stopped and asked, "Who is your insurance provider?" When I answered, "Regents" he quickly replied, "Well they aren't going to pay me enough to come and apply this shot at your home in the middle of the night." He said this in front of both his assistant and an intern. While the ultrasound was going on, he seemed to identify the cause of the pain. But when he was done and I asked what is was and what could be done he said, "We don't have time for that. You'll have to schedule another appointment." Chimes then referred me to another office just in case there were related issues and he wanted me to go there before coming back to see him. I wasn't able to get out of that appointment quickly enough, which was scheduled on the same day, in time to make my 3rd appointment with Chimes. The office I was scheduled with accidentally took the patient scheduled after me prior to me, causing the delay. Honest mistake. When I called to say I'd be 45 minutes late I was told that Chimes could not see me and I would be subject to a $50 cancellation fee. My co pay is $40, but they wanted now $50 because obviously this is a business and they couldn't bill insurance for my visit. When I called to explain what happened and complained about the fee, the office manager agreed to waive the fee but said Gary would no longer agree to see me for another appointment because I had made an issue about having to pay an extra $50. Wow. So this office sees me two times, they know what is wrong with me, refuse to tell me on the prior appointment what the issue or remedy is and now won't complete the third visit because I voiced my disapproval of getting hit with $50? Again, I think this doctor is competent and probably really good at what he does. But his arrogance during my visit and condescending ways left a bad taste in my mouth. Avoid this office. There are more compassionate doctors I'm sure equally as competent.
