ASCO has a great mission but many of the managers are terrible with staff, treating people as expendable. HR supports managers no matter what. Your manager could lie about your work, lie in your end of the year evaluation to stop the possibility of you getting hired in another department and HR would fully support them. If you work here, save all your emails and send them to your personal email.
After working in the Member Services department, I've learned that the VP (Krista Barnes) and the Director (Claudia Contreras) previously worked at another organization together prior to working for ASCO. The projects that were brought on by Claudia have failed miserably and effected the organization. Claudia led the new CRM rollout which has negatively impacted several departments across ASCO. Many complaints were made about the system to no avail and Krista Barnes continues to appoint Claudia to new projects.
The harassing emails Claudia sends to people are very offensive and she's been reported to HR by numerous people in the organization. HR has done absolutely nothing to show concern or care for their employees. Claudia joined the mentor program with ASCO and requested that her mentor be a director of Human Resources. Her sole purpose in this was to build a "Friendship" relationship with HR so no action can be taken against her.
The Member Services department is a complete circus but it has the potential to be great if Krista and Claudia were replaced with loyal, hard-working managers and directors. Krista has recently hired a former co-worker to mastermind the control of the membership department. If you're a Physician, I would consider spending my money with another association that shows concern for the well being of their employees.
The turnover rate in this organization is terrible.
