REVIEWS OF UVM Medical Center IN Vermont

My wife delivered our son in October 2015 and we could not have had a better experience at UVM Medical Center. The nurses in both Labor/Delivery and the Mother Baby unit were wonderful. Though my wife was a bit busy to enjoy the views, the location of the Labor and Delivery rooms is pretty inspiring. Newly opened Mother Baby unit was a great place to get to know our little one and for my wife to start her recovery. Again, cannot say enough about the birth experience at UVM Med Ctr.

I broke my foot, 2 surgeries, I'm so happy with the results. Dr. Michelson not only knows what he is doing, he is very kind. His nurse is a hoot too!

Cool hospital. Falsely imprisoned my wife in a maternity ward for three days while giving me incorrect times when she would be released every four hours. They aggravated her so badly that she ended up in a psychiatric ward. Then they rewrote her entire medical chart. I guess this is how they set people up so they can give all their inbred families more kids.

Terrible ER service. I'm a Harvard trained physician, now practicing in Texas. We traveled to the Burlington area for a fall vacation. My son became ill. Went to UVM emergency room for evaluation. Triage was OK. We waited for over 3 hrs without so much as a nurse, PA, or doctor seeing us. When we asked a nurse, she gave us a terrible attitude with no reassurance. Absolutely terrible. This kind of care would never fly back at the Brigham. Too bad for the people of Burlington. I don't think they have many options.

They are taking such good care of my newborn son in the nciu on the 7th floor it's the best place to bring children i highly recommend to anyone that needs child Care

I have been attending the medical center for many years. Personnel are highly competent and professional. Physicians and surgeons are excellent. I would recommend the medical center to anyone who is seeking extraordinary care.

This is a great hospital for anyone including little children and babies. In December I got extremely sick and had to spend a night in the In-Patient Unit. The doctors and nurses were very kind and generous To me and said that I could do rounds with them, because I want to study as a Level One Trauma Nurse.

doctor wasseff didn't listen to what was going on. Been in pain for over 2 months now. They just want to take your money and say you will be fine. Take asprin for 2 weeks and things will be ok. Ok well what happened in the last 8 weeks nothing healed so why will it in the next 2. Doctors are idiots

Jerry Bright

Went to restroom My wife told the nurse I would be back in a minute The nurse took the next patient and I had to wait an additional 40 minutes My advice is don’t drink anything so while you wait 2 hours to see a doctor you don’t loose your turn

Very wonderful hospital with genuinely great, knowledgeable, straight to the point, understanding, kind, & caring Doctors & Staff!!

This hospital is creepy. We moved here from Canada because we lost our medical coverage in Canada from being out of the province too long and could not get sufficient pre-natal care coverage in time. We received three weeks of pre-natal care from this hospital during which no one said anything was wrong about our pre-natal care problem (the whole reason we moved to Vermont). My wife gave birth and then they left her in the maternity ward for forty-eight hours, telling her she could leave in six hours every six hours. Meanwhile, they decided this was a good time to call DCF on my wife for having no pre-natal care (maybe they wanted to trap my wife with our son). My wife was recovering from the birth and was in a vulnerable position and had a mental breakdown. The hospital then sent her to the psychiatric care unit where she was given a bogus diagnosis of psychosis. I think this diagnosis helps cover up for them for waiting for three weeks and then basically entrapping my wife, but it was an inaccurate and ridiculous diagnosis. Four doctors outside of the hospital has questioned this diagnosis because it is ridiculous as my wife has no psychotic symptoms. This hospital is sneaky and unethical. I would stay away from this hospital, and actually Burlington, Vermont in general. Also we asked them to restrict a health release and sent in a fax to the number provided to that effect. Three weeks later we called about restricting another release and they apparently had lost the first release and never changed it.

I have NEVER once in my life asked for pain Medication. However, when I was envolved in a car crash, in which i was t-boned, while in a jeep wrangler with the doors off I knew I needed them. MD. Curtis Keith was rude and gave me nothing to help with the pain (the other driver was at fault.) I was the one that got hit by a driver on his phone; Dr. Curtis Keith failed me and the Medical system. **** please dont respond to me asking for me to call your complaints department. IM TELLING YOU TO FIX THE PROBLEM YOURSELF. Oh and this has to be the worst rated hospitial in Verment

Never had a great time at a hospital, prob never will and I do understand these persons have established a grand carrier for themselves but when u come in wipe your feet and brush the heinous chip off your shoulder. I understand a certain type of person would be great in surgical service but not these ones. I wanted to go around asking if mommy was close by, brats with unbearable ids and egos that would give the great orange man himself a run for his money......worse and worse everytime

Our first son was born here in August 2011 and we couldn't have been happier with the experience. The birthing center was incredible and the doctors and nurses were all very kind. Great good too.

Adam LaBranche

Less than useful staff. Snarky and unforgiving financial services people. No follow through on my account about payment saying there was zero communication about me paying which is a straight up lie and saying I didn't make payments towards my physicians billing which is how they decided to apply my payment, not mine nor did they even bring it up. Zero transparency that there was even any difference when I was making payments, which I was even when I couldn't afford it. Still got sent to collections. Thanks a lot! No wonder I never hear anything good about this place.

UVM is the WORST HOSPITAL IVE EVER ENCOUNTERED. The doctors know nothing - and every single hospital in the damn state is under one "non-profit" bullshit. I'm moving from Vermont and visiting Dartmouth because of the continuously horrible treatment I've received. Go there and be ready to be killed.

Natty King

They took great care of my boyfriend when he was in the ICU for severe injuries, the nurse i talked to eased my stress and fears, today my boyfriend is doing better and thank you

I was abused during a stay at the ER and have found information in my medical record that is a false representation of what I told them during my stay. I had the most disturbing experience being kept in the ER against my will for 3 days, being given drugs I did not want or need, including Ketamine, which caused hallucinations. I was attack by 6 men for standing up from my bed, with no explanation. I've cancelled all upcoming appointments and will have nothing to do with this abusive organization going forward. Attempts to reconcile with the hospital have received the response that my treatment was in compliance with patient care standards. I would highly recommend everyone seek an alternative organization for their healthcare needs. I should also mention that I am blind and was discriminated against. After reviewing my medical record online I see comments from doctors about how I didn't make eye contact... Seriously incompetent care that I am now being held responsible for paying thousands of dollars for...

Jessica Lyn

Recently had an ultrasound done up there due to multiple miscarriages and having to see a high risk ob. I was never given any of my images nor did the dr even do anything but look at the baby measurements and leave the room. Thankful my baby measures well but It took 5 phone calls before I even got anything sent to me which were the worst ultrasound images nothing I can even share with family or friends. Unfortunately this is probably the last ultrasound I will have done during this pregnancy as I am over 20 weeks and baby seemed fine.

What a Great Hospital! My Son had gastric surgery yesterday. The Doctors, the staff caring for him were all amazing, kind, very informative and attentive to his needs. What a great team, special shout out to his PACU nurse and the Baird 6 nurses!!! Thank you!

First I will say that the staff in the NICU are angels walking this earth. That's not what this review is about though. It's the rest of your staff that I'm writing about. The morning that my 36 hour old daughter passed away in my arms, my family and I were ushered into a room to await a social worker. It was early on a Sunday and after he did the minimum amount required to help us, he said "Anything else? No? Good. I don't want to be here today". Yes, well, I too wanted to be anywhere else as well, jerk. That was pretty much the most insensitive thing anyone has ever told me in my life. Then, over the weeks and months that followed, the bills started and your billing department started hounding me. The HR manager at my employer's at the time told me that he would be happy to act as a proxy for me in dealing with these bills so I wouldn't have to think about it so much. The billing department said they wouldn't talk to him and would only talk to me. Even after I filed notarized paperwork giving him permission to operate on my behalf. These horrible people continued to call me day and night and often I was accused of missing payments when I hadn't. This was over a decade ago but I've never forgotten how horrible these employees of your hospital made me feel. I would never return to this hospital for any reason and I've told many many people about these incidents. Congrats, UVM, for making the darkest period of my life even worse with your careless, heartless employees.

Dave Flight

Great medical center.

Noah Sexton

Terrible, terrible hospital. I was brought in for a seizure and was not given so much as an EEG. Further, when I went to my own doctor for a follow up, it was discovered that this ER had completely missed a rotator cuff tear in two places, and as a result my muscular injury went untreated and I likely may never regain full mobility in my shoulder joint. Thanks, UVM Medical Center staff. You're really adhering to that oath of yours. Run, do not walk, from this ER in particular.

Ryan Gates

I've been to this hospital several times. It's a nice hospital, clean and in good condition. I've always had good luck with the care.

Yajaira Macatrão

One of the best hospital I have ever seen. My Son was admited there for a surgery and Dr. Silverman, Damon and the Hospital staff did such an amazing job. I am highly thankful, we are thankful. Thank you for caring

It's seems like they simply don't give a damn about patients waiting for hours and hours. Bedside manner is foreign. They would do much better to hire a staff that showed up to work...to work...instead of gossip and talk about their personal life while patients wait for them to actually do their job. I would suggest they leave home life at home and participate in work at work. Unacceptable really!? You will pay hundreds of dollars PER hour just to wait for them to decide to go to work when they're already on the clock!

My mom is dying at fletcher Allen. Years ago it was the best but now I have little good to say about this place. Nurses on most part are fair to good but some need to lose their license for the way the treat patients. Stealing goes on or rather misplacing..very much unhappy with how this hospital is now verses even 5 years ago:(

Emma Wall

I paid a bill I had with them, and then they for whatever reason sent it to collections with absolutely no notice to me, which I'm pretty sure is highly illegal. Again, I have records and confirmation that this bill was paid, and they still sent it to collections. 0 stars for customer service or patient care, pretty surprised they haven't been sued for bs like this yet.

The staff of UVMMC are great, in my experience. I have worked with many folks who have received help through the Health Assistance Program. I refer people to this program on a weekly basis, and it never lets them down. The Frymoyer Center has also been a huge benefit to the community. Thank you for working so hard to heal our community.

I was admitted to UVM Medical Center in July 2016 after an accident that left me paralysed from the chest down. Five days later I left fort a rehab hospital in CT with movement and feeling in my legs. After a month of rehab I walked out of the rehab hospital on my own. Rapid, highly professional treatment at UVM was critical to my recovery. A recovery that my rehab doctors called miraculous. Dr David Lunardini and Prof(and nurse) Stuart Whitney provided caring, highly professional, and successful treatment that insured the best possible outcome for me. I can't say enough about how great the entire staff at UVM treated me. I am forever grateful to them all. Paul Halsey Ridgefield, Conn.

Uvm medical center has gone WAY downhill. I used to be able to go in with a migraine and be seen within a half hour. Today, I went with SEVERE side pain (possible kidney stones) and was told I was high priority and when a room opened I would be taken in. I was there for two and a half hours and all they did was hand me a piss cup (still in the waiting room) and that was after the first hour. Meanwhile everyone in the waiting room was completely different by the time I walked out and the new people just getting there were being seen before I was. If I could rate in the negative I would.

Shelley Stevenson

Worst Hospital in the wold. MOTHERS BEWARE! If you should be so lucky as to read this before delivering. Please for the love of all thats good & holy-head my words! Don't allow this place to bully you into saying you have to deliver here, as i did. They administered me a medication i'm highly (deathly) allergic to derived from Shell-fish. After I was discharged! When they found out my attorney is David Sleigh. They called the DCF. After passing multiple drug screens, UVM had my Daughter taken away. After my stay December 3rd where this happened. I also have on video one of their nurses Anna lease Farnsworth. The nurse who administered the drug that almost killed me, assaulting me.

Abhishek Patti

Awesome doctors

Bob Smith

My daughter's been going here off and on since she was 10. The Drs and staff are wonderful!

Robin Roberts

Absolutely horrible ER service. I wish i could rate in the negative. My daughter who is 14 weeks pregnant was having abdominal pain, dizziness & light headed waited in waiting room for over 2 hours without being seen by a dr or PA. A UVM student came in with sore throat and was taken in within a half hour. That college ID worked wonders. But yet they let a pregnant woman sit with abdominal pains for hours. When i asked when we would be seen i was told 9 ppl ahead of us. Most of which came in after us????? Not sure how they prioritize when triaging but its a very messed up system. Would NEVER recommend emergency care at Fletcher Allen. The absolute worse. HORRIBLE.

Jerry Johnson

Rude nurses, and psychopathic doctors. Don’t be shocked if you end up with a $260,000 surprise bill after a one week visit.

Peter Shea

My friend was in M610 from 2/19>21 with a concussion. I personally have been in other hospitals and have never seen such great teamwork, positive attitudes and overall positive patient interaction. Within minutes of my arrival I was given an incremental chair to sit in and it was done with a smile. My friend indicated that everyone at all levels of interaction was great. My congratulations to a well run organization. Everyone should be proud to work their.

Dana Lewis

I showed up at their door and asked for help. They toke me on and provide me with best care. I would rate all team members 100 Break down every one I came in contact with smiled made sure I received what I needed and timely. The team of Dr's and nurses that performed ECT were at all times fun, careful always included you in your care.

Worst hospital I've ever been in. Many of the nurses are lazy and rude yet it seems they are always going on strike for more money/benefits? I had a cardiac catheterization done by this angry little incompetent and I'm certain I wasn't given adequate sedation as I felt the entire procedure. The vascular surgery residents are even worst, rude, no communication skills, full of themselves. I was disgusted and signed myself out. I can honestly say I will never return to that over rated place again. The way I was treated? I'll stay home and have a heart attack next time.

This is the worst treatment I have ever received from any medical facility. Having been in and out of hospitals for years in another state coming here was a terrible decision. The doctors seem incompetent, and I cannot blame the nursing staff for lack of treatment. It constantly feels as though you are being pushed to the next doctor or department without receiving any actual help. I have never in my life watched a doctor look up my condition right in front of me. It was a terrible experience and one you are stuck in because there are so few unaffiliated places to go in the entire state.

Last week l underwent a complete hip surgery at the University of Vermont Medical Center. Everything about the experience was stellar ! The various staff members of all levels : Dr. Campbell and his team, the nursing staff , the physical therapy team, the cleaning staff and the food department were kind, competent, exceedingly thorough and professional . There was a definite sense of a consistency amongst the staff giving the message that myself (and all of us as patients ) were in "good hands". Pain management rational and decisions were shared with the patient and the experience of undergoing major surgery was more manageable and less traumatic due to the wonderful competence and compassion of the nursing staff and the physical therapist assigned to me. When l realized that going home was not a good option for me and that l needed to go to rehab - this change of plans midstream was handled graciously and seamlessly by the office staff. Would it help to know that the food offered on the menus was comparable to a five-star restaurant?! It sounded like it would be delicious and l was not disappointed - it was ! The physical plant of the hospital was kept meticulously clean , which added to the overall experience of being in a hospital where pride was taken its being sanitary. Physical therapy was amazing. I really could not have asked for more compassionate and expert care from my physical therapist. The University of Vermont Medical Center has top rating in my book. I have experienced emergency room visits there as well as now this major hip surgery -and l cannot say enough excellent things about this fine hospital.

I find it quite disturbing that in the surgical waiting area, while awaiting on a family member to have a surgical procedure done, they didn't provide coffee or anything for the families waiting on a loved one. Frankly, it's pathetic, for the amount of money that is charged for ANY procedure, that at the VERY least, coffee and a small snack should be provided. Maybe one day they'll realize how important that would be. Make folks feel that they matter in some fashion, other than draining their wallets or bank accounts. Joanna Rathbone

0 stars should be option. They deserve negative 50 stars. No help no confirmations, appointments rescheduled without informing patient. Another month waiting for important surgery. Shame on this hospital and those who run it. Guess I'm going to Canada to get quality healthcare

One week in icu with in dwelling Foley catheter and not one attempt at checking or cath care. I had IV in back of leg for clot busting and couldn’t get out of bed or turn, NO skin checks, no skin care, no care at all. Here’s your basin, good luck . Last day in icu nurse wouldn’t let me go until my other iv was halfway empty down tubing. Unusual to be d/c’d from icu but I was there for clots in leg and lungs. After a week I was so anxious to go home. The amount of fluid in that tubing was negligible, not good nursing practice and simply her exercise in power. I would have removed it myself but my husband advised I wait and not hazard some crazy comments in my chart. I will never let her near me again, btw she was supervising also, I won’t go into it all but this was my 3rd stay and the previous 2 were surgeries and the visiting nurse hung wrong iv meds, refused to help after surgery so I asked the surgeon be called and bless his heart he helped move the sharp egdes from the post surgical brace from my shoulder replacement . I can’t go through it all, just bring family or friend, you need someone to keep an eye and next time I will make formal legal complaints. God I pray there’s no next time.

Jason Lowery

The friendliest staff here, the whole team of doctors working to get me on the best possible track of medicine... I am going home cofident that they fixed my ailment. The nursing staff, especially Samira, was especially nice and easy to talk to! The food is good... only complaint is not single rooms, but for the needs of many, it is a luxury I didn't mind losing, considering if there were not 2 to a room on half the floors, just that many people would be suffering still... nice cafe and courtyard, with beautiful bronze sculptures and large rock maple tress and benches.., very nice... this is the only hospital I will go to in VT as I live 50 miles away and have options for 2 that are closer but much prefer UVM MEDICAL CENTER. Thanks for the help!

Alexandrea Smith

I was very pleased with my treatment at fletcher Allen. I was treated with dignity and respect but all of the staff. They sat down with me one on one and explained my care and I did not feel rushed or that they weren’t paying attention. I will always request treatment there and suggest them to others!

Ryan Le Blanc

First off, I have a seizure disorder that often requires visits to the emergency department. Secondly, I am an Opioid addict in recovery. There is a lot of media coverage here in Vermont regarding the seeming "epidemic" of Opioid usage and the news is constantly covering the fact that discrimination against addicts must stop. Vermont has one of, if not the highest per capita rate of Opioid addiction/dependence in the country. This is part of what makes it sad that discrimination against addicts is in full-force and your treatment can range from sub-par to less-than-human. I've been refused medication for my disorder on several occasions due to the fact that "my issue was probably drug-related". As someone who has been sober for a fair amount of time, this treatment can be quite hurtful and harmful. Treating an addict as less than another human is not the way to end the Opioid Epidemic. Just like how "the civil rights act ended racism", I get so tired of these people coming on the news and discussing how great they are for the humanity they extend their patients. I'm sure it helps spur donations and get them funding for their sweet new addition, but that doesn't make it true. 3 stars, but 5 stars for the amazing Nurses and awesome Doctors who have treated me so well when I have been unwell. It's really refreshing to have a doctor tell you himself that he believes in you when most not only don't, but treat you're "already dead" and hence not worth their time, energy or MONEY.

I had an amazing experience with Dr. Eike Blohm and staff, although my situation was awful. They were all super supportive, gentle and informative. I left feeling like a real person and not just another ER patient. The wait was 3 hours but they were very busy that night and the quality of care I received was way beyond my expectations and worth the wait. As an out of towner- I was beyond thankful for Dr. Eike Blohm and his staff.

Had two appointments spaced four hours apart. First appointment went off without a hitch. Even spent money in your cafeteria. However, while waiting for the second appointment, the office manager of the second provider sicced the cops on me for... hanging around??? I was economically profiled, e.g., accused of being a homeless person.

An emergency gallbladder problem while traveling in Quebec City exposed us to thrcinadequate level of care provided by their best hospital - CHUL. We drove to Vermont and were exceeding grateful to arrive here and get first rate service, meet cheerful staff and excellent sanitary facilities. If you have to be in a hospital and see close to Burlington make a beeline here and be grateful this place exists. Gallbladder gone ( in Quebec they wanted to wait!) and healing has begun. The bills will arrive later of course and will be impenetrable and no doubt Blue Cross will refuse to pay properly and we will have the usual paperwork fight. A shame because the care here is first rate. Too bad corporate billing has to be so deceitful and underhand.

Irene White

Amy Fleming

The case workers here are nothing but liars. They will look you in the eye day after day and promise to help you when you are ready to leave the hospital, but are nowhere to be found or have the decency to even return phone calls when the hospital is ready to release a homeless patient back onto the streets. Shame on you! I will be filing a formal complaint. These people are cowards that aren't capable of doing their jobs properly.

This place is run by the lowest of the low. Now they've got a federal lawsuit on their hands that will cost them millions. A million here, a million there, pretty soon you're talking real money!

I've been to multiple departments for multiple reasons as a teen and young adult. Now that I have the freedom (and perspective) to make my own choices, let me just say, I WILL NEVER GO BACK! This hospital is an absolutely repulsive, pathetic disgrace to the term. Staff has been sexist, bullying, arrogant, condescending, careless, apathetic, and TOTALLY incompetent, across ALL departments, EVERY time I've had to go. This is not an isolated incident we're talking about here. This is NORMAL for that godforsaken place. They even mixed up my paperwork with someone else--and, yes, it contained ever personal bit of info. you can think of, and more, and as a result, they performed the wrong tests on me. (Had I been older & wiser, I would've taken some action against them.) Do yourself a favor, and go elsewhere, if you can!! (Ps--To the rep. who's trying to do damage control on here: Just give up, kid. It's OVER. Lol)

Kevin Riddell

If headed for the ER, you're better off going to the morgue! The ER at UVM Medical Ctr. is so understaffed that instead of calling an ambulance, you should just stay home or hope you can make it to Northwestern Medical in St. Albans. My family, on multiple occasions, had to wait hours, that's right, HOURS at this ER! In my book, if you have to wait more than 10 minutes in any hospital ER, you've waited 5 minutes too long. For the hundreds and thousands of dollars they charge in your bill(whether you survive or not), they should have no problems or excuses why they can't afford to get more help around the clock in this department. I don't know, maybe a veterinarian hospital would be able to get you in sooner. UVM Medical Ctr. along with UVM College of Medicine is supposedly claimed to be one of the best schools/hospitals in the nation. I find that to be greatly falsified information. All the students go to school here in Vermont but leave once they get their degree. If they didn't, maybe there would be a fully staffed "EMERGENCY" Room.

My friend was misdiagnosed and mismanaged by the UVM MedicL Ctr. The teams of doctors did not communicate well with each other providing conflicting information. For over a month they treated what they thought to be appendicitis. My friend was in terrible abdominal and back and skin pain, he lost his appetite and was extremely nauseous, to the point of not eating anything, became jaundice, constant sense of urgency... It was only after insisting that further testing be done and threatening legal pursuit did they discover stage 4 pancreatic cancer. He died a couple weeks later. I think the people that work there are nice, but the hospital is dangerously dysfunctional in core management systems.

Timothy Gottshall

Every interaction I've had with the hospital and the staff has been excellent. I'm especially grateful to the people in the Financial Services office. They've been kind and empathic in understanding my situation and finding ways to help me keep my account paid. A+ to them!

The people here have usually been good to me, barring the awful gastroenterology interns I had to deal with. I've equally run into both friendly, sympathetic providers as well as pretentious, snobby (and clearly student) providers. I am not here to play "who is smarter" or be looked down upon. After all, I'm not the one that's going to be paying medical school loans off until I'm in my 50s and practicing one of the most stressful, burn-out inducing careers that exists in the modern world. I am here to get help, to heal, and get better. If you are staff here and aren't about that, you need to consider a career change. If you are a patient here, do not back down if someone tries to discredit you or treat your concerns as an afterthought.

The most dehumanizing experience in my life! Went here for an emergency that I later found out was complication due to tendinitis that had put pressure on the sciatic nerve ending in my foot. I have a high pain threshold but this put me to my limit. It came on about 8:00pm, the pain felt like my foot was being smashed by a hammer and then a severe stabbing pain in my lower right side of my back. If it wasn't after hours I would have never gone to the emergency room, but i was concerned having never felt such an intense pain. I checked into the emergency room and was put in a room behind a curtain. On the other side of the curtain an expecting couple was having a prenatal meeting with their doctor. I was in so much pain I was groaning and wincing from the intensity, and i guess that annoyed the "doctor". She whipped back the curtain and snarled at me that if i didn't shut up I would be kicked out. I said sorry but I am in serious pain, and she sighed and shut the curtain. My wife was there with and was shocked how she treated someone clearly in pain. This is just the start. First for diagnoses they did an x-ray, and of course the x-ray showed nothing. They asked me if I wanted something for the pain and I said not right now, I want to find out whats wrong. Well, I guess that was a trigger statement because immediately after I said that the nurse leans over the bed and whispers to me, you just want drugs huh? I said what, I am in a lot of pain. She immediately left the room. No one came back for almost two hours. I'm writhing in pain still groaning and the lovely prenatal doctor once more storms over to me with her teeth grit, clearly angered and says if you don't quite the f**k down now you are out of here. Now my wife is crying and saying what is going on here. I'm in excruciating pain. The first doctor comes in now three hours into the ordeal. I know it can take a while in a hospital so I am not complaining about that, i understand. The doctor asks me whats wrong and I go to great lengths explaining the issue and he says ok and leaves. He absolutely said nothing else. Doesn't touch my foot were the pain is coming from nothing. It's ridiculous looking back now. I was clearly in a lot of pain, my wife said when the pain would hit my foot would pulse and you could see the veins flexing and my face was contorting. But they did not believe me. I had another nurse come in and get in my face, and I swear to you, there is no reason for me to make this up, and she said just f**king admit it you're trying to get drugs. I had enough at that point and I said I am getting the f**k out of here, you are all crazy. The nurse asked me to lay back down and they would get a specialist down here. I thought ok, maybe now they are taking me serious. A nurse came back in thirty minutes later with a pair of crutches and says alright you are all set. I said what, no one has told me a thing about what's going on. She just goes oh, and leaves. Another half hour later the specialist comes in. He ask me three questions. I said what do think it is doctor, the pain is so intense. He looked at me and said I don't know, and left. Oh my god, is this another dimension I stumbled into? I have never seen anything like this. To finish up this long story i went to a physical therapist who spent two hours doing ultra sound and feeling around, and figured out that I had a rare instance of tendinitis, probably caused by a ski injury that caused me to baby my injured leg for so long that it strained the other foot, and had swollen the middle tendon connecting to my foot that had put pressure on my sciatic nerve ending. They said of course that would cause extreme pain like that, and they were appalled at the treatment I had received at the hospital. I can not believe they would be more concerned with me trying to get drugs then helping me. I am not that good of an actor to fake this and I had never ever got any prescriptions for drugs from this hospital. There was no history of that from me there or anywhere.

Excellent hospital and staff. Great facility.

Recently was transferred here by ambulance from my locks hospital due to high fever after a dangerous fall. Injured my back and spine significantly. Was admitted for 10 days on Baird 4. My nurses/LNA’s and DR’s were amazing! Dr Jindel you rock! Wished I could have you continue my care. Hannah, April, Oliver, Nick...you all went above and beyond the call of duty. My care here was amazing. Until the social worker Naomi London came into the picture. She is a social worker and I tell you what, her bedside manners, deamor, even the lack of caring was beyond unprofessional. On all theee occasions this woman came into my room, she was not only disrespectful to me but my husband, daughter, parents and even my coworkers and friends. She rushed me out of that hospital way before I was ready. And now, I have a more dangerous injury because of her. I am needing back surgery and know I have to have it here and will need to stay here again. This woman is not welcomed back in my room, and truth be told, owes not only my family, by me an apology. Her credentials should be re-elvaluated and her position should be looked into.

Like any medical center, moat people do not want to be here, but this facility has cared well for so many of my friends and relatives.

“Department of infectious Disease” Disgusting. What a horrible name of a Clinic that serves people living with HIV. One would expect in the year 2019 there would be less shaming for people living with HIV. Apparently, in Vermont, for the “surveilled” population of seropositive people, this is not the case. Amazing!

"Bureaucracy is the death of all sound work." - Albert Einstein "The very first requirement in a Hospital is it should do the sick no harm." - Florence Nightingale, Mother of Nursing "Make a habit of two things, to help; or at the very least do no harm." - Hippocrates, Father of Medicine "The individual is never in a position to fight against the power of big business, because the question involved is not who is right, if reasons exist to do wrong, the question involved is only that of who has greater power." If the good people had power, they would listen and resolve the problem with honesty and justice, but evil people in power will never address the argument to prevent an quarrel from arising. - Adolf Hitler I wouldn't recommend treatment from UVM Medical Center to my worst enemy. This corporation produces within it, terribly immoral nurses and physicians, and treatments that in a home would be considered domestic abuse, assault, and torture. This place deserves to be bulldozed to the ground and Vermont will be a better place without it.

My sister entered the medical ICU in critical condition and in a coma with a number of complicating medical factors. The ICU doctors, nurses, and staff were terrific in keeping us informed as to her progress that, frankly, looked poor at first. But they persisted, and she improved gradually to the point that she was moved to Medical Baird 4. Again, the doctors, nurses, and staff were absolutely fabulous in working with my sister and her family. The quality of medical care is outstanding, and the compassion and empathy are exemplary. My sister is now in a sub-acute care facility for the last stages of her recovery. Because of Fletcher Allen, my sister has a new shot at life, and we have our sister for years to come.

Do not entrust this hospital with your life when it comes to tick related diseases. It doesn't help that the CDC, in which they depend, doesn't acknowledge chronic Lyme as a disease, which may explain why the doctors who treated me there, including their ID specialist suggest Lyme can be cured with a simple course of antibiotics at any stage of its development. FALSE. They also rely on a single dose preventive measure after a tick bite, which according to ILADS is not reliably efficacious. These doctors and institution also rely on the ELISA test which is very unreliable and often false negative. And these doctors rely on these protocol and false information to deny antibiotics even when presented cases of flu-like symptoms 1 week following the tick bite, and suggest that you either caught the flu or that the single dose of antibiotics may be the cause of your symptoms. This is a very Lyme illiterate and incompetent facility which lead me into late stage Lyme which may be irreversible, hence ruined my life. You need to see a "Lyme Literate" doctor such as Carol Gardner, Sojourns, a few others in the area and get your information from places like ILAD's, Global Lyme Alliance and stay the hell away from the CDC, UVMMC and most other clinics as they refer to the CDC and Big Med for their false, profit-driven information. Or don't listen to me and end up with Chronic Lyme a debilitating neurological, cardio and arthritic disease which destroys every organ in your body. Edit: In response to your reply: Thank you, if I make a full recovery I'll update my review.

Would give 0* if I could. I was having a miscarriage & sat in the waiting room for two hours with blood running down my legs while they took people in room that just had colds. Then when I got in a room it took another two hours just to see a doctor.

My son was transported here from our local hospital. They were pretty sure he had achalasia, but they couldn't fix it. We have been on McClure 6th floor for almost 2 weeks and the Doctors and Nursing staff have been incredible. Thank you to everyone that has worked a shift with my son, Brian. We appreciate the excellent care he has received.

Scheduled to have an inducment and they told me to come and ended up having to drive from Richford to Burlington only to be sent back home to wait for my son to be born horrible at communication and care of there patients

wilma lupone

Terrible communication, appeared to be more interested in billing than facilitating patients needs. I am a landlord that had a tenant taken to the crisis center (Vietnam vet, off his meds) Called the hospital, told them he was a vet and that I secured his apartment and needed to know when he would be released so that I could open his apartment for him when he was headed back there. Nurse promised to call me when he was released, but didn't. Heard from a neighbor that he had been dropped off and was wandering around the yard because he couldn't get back in. Seriously? I bet they billed the Gov't over $1K and never actually got him back on his meds. They are planning on the repeat biz . . and the accompanying fed $$$$$$ Shame on you Hospital. Time to review your tax exempt status . .

wonderful, modern hospital.

There are so many great people and caregivers at this hospital, but their care and dedication is diminished and negated by the bad people there and the administration's eagerness to covers for those bad people instead of addressing their behaviors. I had a nurse deny me care because she decided that she thought I couldn't pay for it. I had no outstanding debt to the hospital or history of delinquency, she simply appointed herself a freelance personal finance deputy and denied me a treatment I needed because she thought it was too expensive for me. This was after I had told her very clearly that I understood the cost and to go ahead with the scheduling while I took care of the financial piece. I had spoken to patient financial assistance and they had told me to go ahead with it because I was eligible for assistance. This nurse inserted herself between me and the care I needed based on her perceptions of my financial situation. I felt this was deeply inappropriate and patient financial services did, too. They told me to report her to the office of patient and family advocacy. This is where the funny part of the joke begins, the hilarious joke that is a whole department supposedly dedicated to advocating for patients but which actually just gaslights them, automatically goes with whatever version of the story they get from staff, and basically tries to make you feel crazy for trying to get the care you need delivered respectfully and appropriately. It's not advocacy, it's damage control. The patient and family "advocates" exist to make you go away, not to help you. I was finally able to get the treatment I needed - the treatment my doctor ordered because my immune system is attacking my joins, glands, and liver - but only after weeks of full-on phone tag combat with multiple departments. So not only was my treatment delayed a month, the stress of this prolonged incident caused a flare up of my autoimmune disorder. Too bad I have no other choice unless I want to drive all the way down to Dartmouth.

Wonderful hospital with terrific caring and compassionate staff:)

If i could give this hospital 0 stars, I would. I have had nothing but bad experiences with this hospital. I have been 5 different times over the course of several years and everytime has been the same. The wait is incredibly long (longer than any other hospital or doctors office I've been to), and when you leave you are left with a "well it's probably this, but we can't know for sure" as your answer to what's wrong. They're uncertainty in their diagnosis makes me feel like they have no clue what they are doing. Also, their financial department is sketchy and deceitful! I was charged for outpatient surgery for an MRI! They refused to change the coding saying that's how it's done (though i know for a fact that other hospitals do not code it as such and even my pcp doctor thought it was absurd) and therefore i was charged several hundred dollars more than i was expecting to pay! I would not recommend going here unless it is absolutely necessary. It was a complete waste of my time and money everytime I had to go.

I left my wallet outside on a picnic table, with a crisp $100 bill in it. An "employee" returned it to security who contacted me. Picked it up from information desk with the $ untouched. I hope those honest folks know how much I appreciate it - you saved me from an incredible headache
