Well here in USA, I am kind of afraid of the hospitals due to high costs, so I try to stay away from them. But I was there, for give my blood, for being a potential bone marrow donor, which I end up not being in the end. One good thing was, all the way from the TRAX station, the buildings are connected with tunnels. When there is a storm outside, which was the case for me, and you don't have a car, and need to walk from TRAX, this is really very beneficial

Angels. What a fabulous hospital, from Dr. Kim all the way down to pharmacists even the kitchen staff. Nurses extremely nice, intelligent and know their stuff. All doctors were the very best from Dr. Gallegos to Dr. Box. Husband had liver transplant 5 yrs ago and the follow-up has been the best in the world. They all saved his life. He was on every floor and we met the best staff ever on each floor - hundreds of angels.

I was hit by a car 3 years ago which broke my femur and heel bone. The ortho surgeon did a good job fixing my bones, but I've been in constant pain ever since getting out of the wheelchair. My surgeon does not know why I'm in pain, and after visiting him 3 times and getting additional x-rays, he refused to refer me to a pain specialist. I wish I had died that day.

I have had less than pleasant experiences at the U hospital in the years but nothing too crazy. However, the last experience I had here puts an end to my visits to this mess of a hospital. I usually get my free HIV testing done thru the Utah Aids Foundation and I was here one time with my partner who was pos. After his testings were done, he came and told me the hospital would give you free HIV blood tests for partners of U of U pos patients and if I wanted to get it done since we were already there. After a few minutes of back and forth with my partner I gave in. I reluctantly gave them my info and asked twice, one to the front desk person who I gave my info to, and once again to the doctor, that the test is free of charge and they reassured me both times that it's free. I decided to go thru with it. The test came back negative and I thought that's the last I'd hear from them for that visit. However, a couple weeks later came a hospital bill from University of Utah with my name on it. I called the hospital telling them that you guys did a free test on me why am I getting billed for it? They told me they would look into it. Fast forward 8 months later. The $30 bill grew to $350 thanks to accumulating late fees and is now handled by a collection company who threatened me with every phone call. One day I decided I can't just let this keep going. I called the doctor back directly every day multiple times for 6 weeks then no longer hear from the collection company or seeing the bills in the mail but they did put a ding in my credit score. What was initially a free HIV blood test turned into months of endless phone calls with their fail system and incompetent staff and collection people and a ding in my credit score. Never again will I visit this place.

My sister was permanently disabled during a routine procedure due to an incompetent doctor. 10/10 would not recommend.

Just a really great hospital with wonderful specialists.

when it comes down to pain they don’t take care of you they know exactly how much pain you are in

R. Douglas Jacob

Highly qualified staff. They are knowledgeable effective and efficient even for a training facility. They are deputed to be one of the best in the West. They have a large Neuroscience Section and other sections dedicated to a particular discipline. I was a Corpsman during the Vietnam days. My career was over QA and Regulatory for medical device and pharmaceutical companies (I.e., I had hospital experience but none with ties to this hospital).

We came in the day before we were leaving for our honeymoon. My husband had a brachial cleft cyst that had gotten infected and we needed to start him on antibiotics like we had when this happens in the past. Urgent care told us we needed to go to the ER even though it wasn't emergent. We knew what it was and what we needed to do to fix it. We spent 4 hrs waiting to be seen even though people that came in after us were getting treated. We ended up leaving because we were sick and tired of wacting the day after we got married. It frustrates the hell out of me that you can't go to a hospital and get the help you need because none of the medical staff ever communicates with each other and doesn't look at the damn medical chart.

Terrible! I had a bad rash all over my body and one night in the shower it made my throat swell up. It was 11 pm so of course I rush to my nearest hospital, which unfortunately for me, was the university of Utah hospital. So I get there and wait two hours in the waiting room, then I get called back and wait even more time just sitting on the chair where they take your blood pressure, just sitting there for a good 30 mins. They finally get me to a room and I wait even longer, around 2 am some newbie comes in and looks at my skin and goes I’m not sure I’ll have to have someone else come look at it. Another doctor comes in some 30 mins later, I’m asleep, this doctor still doesn’t know what it is. The newbie comes back a while later with a google search pulled up on his phone telling me it’s a rash that no one knows the cause of and oh there’s no cure I just have to wait it out several weeks and just try to avoid warm water. I’m so baffled but I pay the bill that comes in the mail that after insurance was 300 dollars. I then get a couple months later a bill for 900 dollars for the emergency room, after insurance!!!! Same visit!!!! Granted they didn’t do anything to me, they didn’t run tests of any kind, they didn’t prescribe me anything, just googled my symptoms that had stumped both their doctors. UNBELIEVABLE!!! I’m obviously going to be contesting the 900 dollars. Over a 1000 dollars to wait around for a google search. If there were 0 stars I’d give it!

Worst emergency room that I have even been too... our nurse Kyle was a compl te idiot we waiting for 5 hours to get any direction or results... the hematologist made us rush up here thinking it was going to be a painl we visit that turned out to be on of the worse... staff is horrible they call people names and talk behind each patient behind their backs we were placed in a waiting room for 3 hours and heared conversation super inappropriate for a hospital setting!!! Th nite had the balls to threaten us after I asked what the estimated time was for a real job on and to see an emergency dr... she said be lucky that I’ve it you in the room I would of have you waiting in the waiting room!!! Who cares where I wait... for a cancer patient ther should be urgency to specially one with a fever and Chet pains.. it’s not 120am and we are still going airing to get any results!!! If I could give negative 10 stars I would... I am super upset and angry with the univ story hospital!! You guys are a joke

Welcome to the meat factory. Two of my loved ones were seen here in the last months. Both were treated less than human. You are just product to them. If anything goes wrong they will throw up their hands and blame the broken system that they serve.

I went for passing out (a potential cardiac issue) which I've been dealing with for years. They had all my previous records of studies and treatments done by other hospitals, and they only thing they checked was my blood pressure-- which was done several times already. They did offer some ideas like eating salt and compression socks, but didn't even look more for an actual cause, just a generic guess. Then on 7/17, I asked for a doctor's note for passing out and let them know I would need it by a7/19. They said that it should be in my email by then, but can take 72 hours. Well 7/19 rolls around and nothing. My work wanted it by then, but gave me an extra day to get it (7/19 was Friday, so I had until monday) I waited the whole weekend and nothing. Monday comes and I'm still waiting. I called 3 times to get it and each time I was told they had it on urgent and it would be there. Well it's Tuesday now, (6 days later) and I still have nothing.

I have taken people here for emergency care. I have over heard the nurse say they don't care what the patients or their loved ones say that everone that comes in is a durg addict. The doctors are ok. But for Emergency Medicine. I would go to IMC over U of U now. Both are Trama 1 centers but only one really has nurse that do care. The U of U needs to be down graded to a Trama 3 with how its nursing staff are. Now today the ER nurse and Doctor tell my friend that if he dose not give them a UA that they will tie him to the bed and force it from him. I am a nurse with 30 years experience. I told both of the ER nurse and Doctor that it would be classifyed as an assault on a patient for doing that. That federal law allows for a Patient to refuse any medical test or treatment that they feel if the Patient is in the right mind. I also told them that in my professional opinon that he is in his right mind. All he is in the ER for is a possible arm fracture. There is no reason to UA a Patient for this it dose not help. All they are trying to do is find out if he is a drug addict. By the way my friend is a M.D. and has the same F.A.C.S. title as the doctors in this ER.

Dr Goldston is the "Best" Neurologist EVER!!! He's a miracle worker when I was out of hope, ideas, and living in extreme pain. Thank You Dr Goldston and the fabulous staff at both the hospital and the Clinical Nuerology department.

First off I am a U of U fan they have great doctors there, that being said I went in to the ER for severe Abdominal pain. I wasn't sure if I should go so I called and told them what was going on the doctor on call recommended me to go be see and it was 3 am. My mom took me and we got back pretty quickly. I had an IUD place and it had not stopped hurting for 4 weeks but I handled it. It wasn't till today where I couldn't sleep at all. Fast forward they do a cat scan it looked okay they "gave" me pain medicine that didn't do a thing. I went in to get help and was disrespected. I have never done drugs I don't drink . But they treated my like the pain wasn't there. All they said was to go take Tyneol... okay ????? Why the hell would I come in here at 3 am just to take Tyneol when I had told them I tried everything for pain and Tyneol did not make a single dent. Don't waste your time and money at the ER see a doctor who Actually cares about people.

You guys really need to have free parking for your staff members. It’s outrageous to have to work there and have to pay to park. You guys can take all the money you take from there paychecks for the UTA and build a parking garage for you’re staff members!!! You have more staff then you have patients in your hospital yet you charge your staff to park. That’s crazy. For that you get one star and if I could give you zero I would.

If I could give zero stars, I would. My husband and I went to the ER to get checked out after a car accident in January 2017. In December 2017, I was contacted saying my bill was being referred to collections and had to coordinate with the hospital and my car insurance to get it paid. Now, almost 2 years later, we received notice that my husband's account had been sent to collections and was now on his credit. I've been attempting to get this fixed for over a month. Allstate immediately paid the bill and said it was cashed on 11/5/18. It is now 12/11/18 and after 3 calls to make sure it had been applied and updated, it is still not fixed. We have now received a letter from the state saying that my husband's tax return has been withheld to pay the University Hospital. For a bill that was paid more than 1 month ago! When I called the hospital, the representative said the money still hadn't been applied properly. This is ridiculous and is screwing with our life and livelihood. I will never go to U of U again.

My experience in labor and delivery was awful. I had a nurse come in and call me another patients name, tons of students (very young but dressed as staff I was never sure who was actually student, resident or medical professional) in and out of my room. I was being induced so one of the young staff suggested a balloon type device be inserted and help dilate my cervix, well they couldn’t place it properly so they said they’d have the “pro” come in. Well the “pro” placed it and I said I had to wait 10-12 hours. So I try to sleep very uncomfortably over night, the next morning someone comes to remove it and says it did nothing because it wasn’t inserted correctly. Good times. Then they give me meds to dilate me and when things get rolling I decide I want an epidural. The anesthesiologist comes in with a student and uses me as a guinea pig. The girl tried for ten minutes poking me in my spine while having intense contractions before the anesthesiologist finally stepped in and did it. (I’ve had two children prior so I know this can be done very quickly and painless. My experience at the U was not.) The doctor who came in when baby was ready was very nice I never did get her name and my Ob made it in right after delivery and he was great my whole pregnancy. Just the whole experience up to delivery was pretty crappy. I had my next child at St Mark’s and it was a totally different and wonderful experience.

I went In with pneumonia, neck pain, and jaw pain the doctor acts like he doesn’t care he guessed pneumonia from my heart rate. I didn't See any of the results from blood they took from me. Also did chest X Ray but the doctor completely ignored my neck and jaw pain. The pneumonia they gave me pills for and I asked The doctor about my nick and jaw pain he brushed it off as a side effect but I know It’s not and I still Have it right now

Seriously the worst!!! Went to instacare and the doctor suggested that we go to the ER. Waited 4 hours in the waiting room to be seen by a nurse, then another 1 hour for a room. Once we were seen the nurse forgot about us for an hour. When I pushed for a nurse it took 5 mins before someone responded and we asked for water which no one brought. I had to ask someone about my husband's IV that wasn't plugged into my husband's arm which they said it should've been. We had to wait another hour for the X-rays. I understand that there are others in critical condition but I am going on almost 8 hours in the hospital at this point and have 1 more hour for results. I honestly do not know how this place is an emergency room. There's no urgency!

Had an appointment this morning for the first time in the new clinic area; what a disappointment. The check in and patient waiting area seem to have been designed to minimize human interaction. The lighting and design are cold, bland, sterile and totally uninviting. From my point of view, and in my opinion, a total design failure, (unless that's what their goals were). I love my "U" Med. physicians and their support staff, too bad management screwed up so totally on this one.

Amber Schoenberger

Emily Covarrubias

Amazing staff and wonderful skilled doctors, nurses, and techs. I wouldn't trust anyone else!! These guys are the best of the best!

Tanya Fry

No Star.... Sent To ER by GI Dr...Xray showed possible intestinal tear....Sat in waiting room 6hrs so far...still have not even been seen. Vital taken 10xs. It has been another 4 hrs and we saw Dr 1 time.

Lena

Betha Hudspeth

Friendly Doctors and nurses good bedside manner will take care of all your needs

Rio

The health plans offered by the U of U are a scam at best. Be prepared to pay the majority of any services received.

Jay Shetlin

Very unethical billing services. They hear "auto accident" and they escalate their fees 5 times! I paid cash for an MRI and CT scan the year before for $500 each. I was in a car accident and I had $2500 MRIs and $3000 CT scans to the tune of $14,000 in 90 minutes. I was impressed the medical care...heck, I use to work at the U of U hospital when I was a student at the U! So disappointing to be taken advantage of by my Alma Mater in a time of crisis. :(

Bobbi Hunter

I work here. It was ranked the #1 place to work in Utah. I love it here and I love working with the patients.

Wayne Todd

Great place and friendly staff. I've been using the UofU for over 18years now and love it here

Yunjun Jung

They open 24 hours!!! This is only place to have a cup of coffee in Salt Lake City except 7-eleven.

Jay Bee

Patient care and quality of treatment for spinal injury is impressive. Caring and professional staff are second to none.

Stefanie Anderson

They do not live up to their reputation. ER wait is horrendous, nurses are either 50/50 great or awful, it takes months to get in to see a dr, you have to hound the office for follow ups or prescriptions. Billing offers no explanations and it takes months and months to get a bill, and every time you ask any question they might not like, they give you an attitude.

Delivery - Awesome! Maternity - Terrible service at a high cost! If possible I would provide two reviews - one for the "Birth Center" and the other for the maternity ward. Birth Center - 6/5 Stars. Service was awesome. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Christie Elmore was an incredible midwife with a great knowledge base and top notch bedside manners. The nurses and aids were perfect at providing the right amount of privacy and support. Overall just a fantastic experience. Maternity Ward - 1/5 Stars. Room was clean and well maintained, and some of the nurses were pretty good. The pediatrics team somehow managed to be even more arrogant and condescending than the other care providers, which was quite the spectacular. My mother-in-law just about lost it when an aide knocked once, burst open the door, flicked on the lights, and immediately proceeded to check our baby's blood sugar while loudly and casually telling us what she was about to do... at 2:30 in the morning. He had just calmed down after several hours of crying and didn't sleep for another two hours. Everyone treated us like we were complete morons the entire time we were there, never noticing that we already knew everything they were telling us. It all made sense when I found out they service a large number of Medicaid patients. Word of the wise U of U, maybe have some beds designated for different payer sources to more efficiently provide extra or less education and support. I wasn't going to leave a review until we got a second bill for the delivery. $21,000 dollars. No C-section, no complications, no NICU. Ludicrous.

Danny Allred

Always excellent care

University Health Care is a 100% corrupt organization 100% invested in unnecessary diagnostics, procedures and surgeries to drive a maximum profit margin for the MD's, MBA's and marketers who run it. They are a poster child for the Rockerfeller $ driven modern medical system.

My family has always been well treated and cared for at the University of Utah hospital. I'm very grateful for the wonderful staff and medical professionals employed there.

Best hospital in the state.

After finally being admitted at 1:00 pm (I arrived at 11:00 am), I was told how lucky I was to have a room and that the doctor would be with me shortly. Before even asking where I was in pain and what brought me in, she started telling me just off of observation and no examination. Then she left. After this incident, the nurse came in and listened to what I needed. When I told her what the had done at the other hospital, she decided that they treated me completely incorrect. After she left, I did not see them for another 3-4 hours. I came into the ER for something very specific and the next think I know, they are ignoring everything that I had said. I did not leave until 1:30 in the morning. No one should ever spend time in this joke of a hospital for more than I was treated like I had an IQ of 59 or below. If I were dying and that hospital was the only one open and close to me, I would just start digging my own grave rather than putting up with them again. Long story short, nothing is resolved, if not being made worse

Lauren the Meg

Staff is just not knowledgeable. They never seem to be able to diagnose properly and they seem like there's a lot of "oopsies" they blew 2 of my veins and missed another 2 times between 3 people just trying to get an IV in. And they put a "typo" on my friends diagnoses saying he had bleeding around his brain when he did not. That's a pretty big oops typo

Paul Schumann

Amazing staff that will treasure good care of you or your loved ones. They really care here!

Aaron Gibbons

These people are evil! Please for the love of God stay away from this place! They only want to save your life to later sue you for pennies and destroy your life financially. I didn't even make it through radiation before they came after me for literally pennies, I survived cancer, but my family lost everything for it. If I had known then what I know now I would have chosen death so my family didn't have to suffer. They are only about profit, and they will do everything to keep you alive so they can make a profit. Myself and my insurance paid $308,166, they sued me for $1763 during radiation while I was sick.

Carol Oborn

terrific care by liver transplant team. treat you like family.

Mike Gallacher

In the age of instant information transfer The U of U decided to drag their feet for 6 months before sending us our hospital bill! During this 6 months my work switched insurances and this slothfulness of the U now dumps on us after we already hit our max out of pocket but now our insurance wont cover us.The simple little check up's we had do not justify the hundreds and hundreds of dollars they are billing us! The U is a top contributor to overpriced and corrupt healthcare on Utah families!

Jo Rundell

Eli and I would love to thank each one of your staff! You guys were wonderful to us! 5th floor internal medicine's staff went above and beyond our needs. Not only caring for Eli as a patient but also made sure I was doing ok (as the worried wife). Marci RN, I believe you are the best nurse we have ever met! Truly are incredible at what you do! You are the definition of what a caregiver should be! And thank you. The rest of you also need some recognition for wonderful jobs you do. Stacey our other nurse during these few days was always on time and a wonderful nurse! HCA Christine you are also one of greatest there over those few days & thank you! HCA Zach we met you on the last day, but you also should get a thanks for being a great caregiver. You all were amazing! Thank you for making a rough ordeal easier for us:) From the emergency to the upstairs. You all were just wonderful :)

Matt Wang

Incredibly rude on the phone. The woman I spoke to was unable to explain why they took money from my tax return when my account showed current and I have zero negatives on my credit report. Horrible

Chris and Belynda winger

I’d give them 0 stars if I could. Parking was awful and a long walk to get anywhere. Everything looked old, run down and dirty. The entrance was the only nice part

Raymond Mulitalo

Best health Care system in the state.

WARNING! Just because they have a football team doesn't make them the successful hospital they think they are. They're on private property only a research and development center. I would recommend a second opinion if not a third.

Patricia .

Good atention, all at time

Jay Adams

This was the worst hospital experience my husband has ever received! We where up in a bed on the side of the hallway and then sat there for 2 1/2 hrs before they got him something for pain. He was crying for almost 2 1/2 hrs before somebody brought him anything then told him that they where not going to do anything to help him with his pain and refused to call in the on- call dentist which is the whole reason we went to the u of u because they are the only hospital that provides one. I wasn’t asking a lot. Just to help him get his pain under control so he could sleep and not cry from his pain. My husband doesn’t cry very often he has to be in server pain to go. We felt we where thrown to the side and forgot about. I know that it’s a hospital and there are people that need medical attention but there should be no reason for him sitting there for 2 1/2 hrs in pain. We could have stayed home and done that. The only person that reached out and tried to help him was Allie she was in blue. Thank you Allie for your hospitality and helping my husband. I’m very disappointed in this state of the art hospitals experience they provided us. We will probably never come back.

Ron Russett

Best care available.

Ana Lopez

This place is the worse place to go for emergencies, I got sent to the er department from urgent care I’ve been waiting for almost 4 hrs and all they have done is take my vitals, I mean what’s the purpose of an emergency room if your going to wait 4 hrs before getting called back to see the doctor!

Kat Boulier

1 week after I moved from the Lake Huron town of Fort Gratiot, Michigan to SLC, I had an acute incident of shortness of breath, to the point of admission to U of U medical center hospital. From admission to 3 days as inpatient the care has been exemplary. As a retired CVICU/ICU RN, I can give an educated comment that each team member not only focuses his/her talent on the patient, but also gives high standard care as part of a team. This teamwork is what makes this type of care get you home faster. Thank you to all the team members who have touched my life and have been so helpful and loving. Truly an over the top Hospital! Kathy Boulier

Lisa Hunt

I was referred to this hospital by another doctor and have always had the impression that this place was the best place to go to....WRONG!!! It was probably the worst experience of my life! I was seen by probably 3 different doctors, all who did not believe me and said nothing was wrong with me. Then they all met out in the hallway (and my room door was open, so I could hear everything they were saying), and were discussing how I must be crazy because there is nothing wrong with me, and other things that I won’t say here because they are personal. They finally just told me to go see my primary doctor, and then had me sign my release paperwork. As I left, I was looking over the paperwork and they had put down that I was “delirious”! Every person that I had contact with seemed to have an attitude that they were better than everyone else. I was so NOT impressed, and actually was pretty mad about the whole visit. I will never go to the U of U again if I can help it. And by the way, I did end up going back to my primary doctor again and as soon as he saw me, he knew right off what the problem was and he was able to help me with it. Why couldn’t anyone at the U of U see it??? Their egos were in the way? Pretty sad if you ask me!

Fred Brooks

The staff and nurses were nice, but the doctor was not. She treated my wife rudely, and acted like my wife was addicted to pain pills. Katie Peacock was the resident doctor. I took a day off of work to take my 100% totally blind wife in hopes that we could schedule a surgery to remove a fibroid growth on her uterus. My wife is in much pain. The doctor said that my wife should wait for menopause..... Thanks doctor ..... We'll wait in pain for possibly ten years., Without any pain pills from you!!!

Willow

Overall the staff was great such as Dr. Austin the head doctor of Internal medicine was wonderful and the CNAs were great! They gave my dad the much needed attention and Care while he was there. I was very impressed by this. I only give it 3 stars because of the urology department refusing to take out a super pubic catheter. To make a long story short the catheter has caused three staph infections in a man with a terminal brain illness similar to Alzheimer's /Dementia and is confused about this extra appendage that is Coming Out Below his belly button. He has torn it out up to four times in one week. He has had constant visits to the emergency room. There has been honestly nothing but problems since it's been installed! He was not medically ordered to put it in. It was my mother's choice. The justification was that his condom catheter was leaking and he would like to be able to sit through church of course the Mormon Church which is 4 hours long without leakage. It has caused countless urinary tract infections. He is now in a VA facility and does not even attend church services anymore. I could go on and on but either way the head of the urology department at the University of Utah will not listen!

Austin Decker

Very professional and friendly staff. Didn't mean a mean staff member at all.

My spouse was admitted to the ER after a bicycle accident. He saw over a dozen doctors and nurses during his two day stay, and every person he saw contradicted the previous person. No one seemed to be on the same page regarding his condition. He had to ask for meals and sometimes didn't get fed at all. Upon discharge for a serious injury he received no paperwork or information about followup. Overall a very poor and stressful experience!

Remarkable hospital. It doesn't get much better. I am thoroughly convinced this is one of, if not the very best hospitals in the state.

David Canaday

My spouse was admitted to the ER after a bicycle accident. He saw over a dozen doctors and nurses during his two day stay, and every person he saw contradicted the previous person. No one seemed to be on the same page regarding his condition. He had to ask for meals and sometimes didn't get fed at all. Upon discharge for a serious injury he received no paperwork or information about followup. Overall a very poor and stressful experience!

Chris Corey

I didn't want to be in the hospital, but since I had to, it had to be the U. They have taken great care of all my family that has had to come, and they took awesome care of me.

Rejoy Na

Wasted 2 hours waiting in the ER with so much pain, they treat this place like a restaurant, first come first serve. HORRIBLE!

Michael Snyder

The surgery waiting room is a great place to wait for your friends with a great way of knowing how they are doing

Noelle Holly

Always at their best, even when I may not be.

Chene Bodrero

If I had a dime for every time the physicians and specialists told a young woman with a proven, and life-threatening physical illness that they were faking it, looking for attention, or had conversion disorder and/or anxiety (over-worriers), I'd be a rich young lady and could buy myself a yacht. I've known /at least/ 2 friends who nearly died or /are/ dying because of this blatant and toxic misogyny. And I'm joining that statistic. If you are a young woman with a serious or rare disease do not go here, and find a provider elsewhere.

Edmond Greer

wait time was ridiculous to be seen . Once I got called back was over an hour before a doc came in my room Only nurses. The nurses were great. But both the docs had crappy attitudes. I will not go back there ...ever

MrChicagoswag .

Nurse Wubbels is a hero for standing up for the law. Shame on every officer that stood by while she was harrassed & mistreated. You are all complicit in this heinous false arrest. What if that was your wife, sister, etc.? Unacceptable!

Family Lickiss

The doctors know what they are doing, they are very qualified. This is their only good quality. Nursing is terrible, one threatened to restrain my brother for going to the bathroom by himself in the NCCU because he couldn’t wait any longer, even though he called for the nurse 20 minutes earlier. The doctors, although smart, won’t talk to you. They give you some answers but are so “busy and important” that they can’t spend more than 30 seconds with a patient to help them understand what’s going on. You might think, being that this hospital takes so many out of state patients, that they have options for places for family to stay, they don’t, especially if your family member is transitioning between rooms while in surgery. If you are looking for Nuero-care don’t come here. My brother is developmentally delayed and struggles with communication skills. You might think that Nuero proffessionals would have experience and patients with this. It seems they have no real grasp on mental health. If you can avoid it, do.

My wife and I recently had our baby here. Our experience has been with the Labor and Delivery Units, the Nursery and the Maternal Care units. Each of these units were great. In particular the nurses and CNAs were all very good to us. We were very well cared for!

David Fuhrman

If you are planning on having your baby delivered here you may want to reconsider. I am the father and the support for my wife while she was going through everything. The hospital doesn't support anyone other than the mom. The biggest issue is not being able to eat with my wife. They actually suggested places close that you can drive to. Really, I should leave my wife while she is in labor so you can save a few dollars on a meal? Now we are in the recovery room and same thing. If you want to eat then go to the cafeteria while your wife and newborn wait in the room. We are so glad there are other hospitals in the area for our next child and we will due our research first before making a decision. Hopefully the hospital will change their policy because they have the potential to be a top rated hospital. Patient/customer first always!

Leticia Ortega

They treated my pregnant daughter and I with much compassion. They were very understanding of her autoimmune diesae and gave her great care in her time of need.

Genice Nielsen

The doctors here are so helpful and efficient. They care about the wellbeing of their patients and don’t “beat around the bush” or procrastinate helping their patients get better efficiently.

brad ali

If I could I will put ZERO. Yesterday I went to ER with possibility of Meningitis I waited more than 2 hours in lobby No one pay me attention I kept asking the staff my stution bad finally I left the hospital and went to LDS hospital

A Thomas

Worst L&D service. Decided to deliver here for my high risk pregnancy. Came in labor with plenty of time to admit me. Resident refused to admit me until I measured a 5 according to policy? (Maybe she was just in bed?) Told them I go very fast, this is my 6th baby, 5th VBAC, my baby has Down syndrome and a congenital heart defect (AV canal). Wouldn’t listen. After waiting for over an hour in triage I had a precipitous delivery, no epidural, no neonate team ready for my baby - who needed oxygen at birth. My Mom had to coach me through delivering my placenta there was so much chaos. And I had been there for almost 2 hours!! Wish I would’ve delivered at American Fork hospital instead or IMC. Avoid delivering your baby here if at all possible. This was a potentially very dangerous situation for both me and baby.

Candy Whitney

Came in as level 1 trauma with C2 fracture and other possible injuries. Was quickly assessed and whisked up to my CCU room and was extremely well cared for. I was released 3 days later walking on my own and flew home the next day. They allowed my sister to stay with me in my room also which was a great comfort to me. I love the room staff. What wonderful and compassionate people.

I went here a few months ago and I have a rare medical condition which makes me have weird symptoms (ehlers Danlos). I had this episode where it was hard to move and talk (not paralysis), and honestly I was scared. I was there for a long time just for them to tell me I was there seeking attention. A couple of people there were nice but the majority was rude to me. This girl came in trying to see if I had conversion disorder, she does the typical strength test and tells me I should be able to walk just fine and to basically stop faking it. I haven't been able to walk in years and I am currently going to physical therapy. To make things worse the doctor told me that my EDS wasn't a thing. He told me that it wasn't possible to have those symptoms (it takes a couple seconds to Google it or look at my medical records). I've had this one ER give me a drug that makes me paralyzed and tell me I'm faking it, but this was far worse than that. I'm writing this in hope someone who treated me will see this. My name is Star Hart and I hope that rings a bell.

Tyson Simmons

Dr. Tajshin is amazing. He reconstructed my husbands shoulder and did a phenomenal job! However, from the moment he left the OR to the moment we left to go home was a nightmare. They told us he was only going to be in the recovery room for max like 1.5 hrs... he was in there well over 5 hours!! and the nurses all left before he was out so there was literally not a soul around to tell me where he was, his status, where he was going, when he would be out.. nothing. so i was left completely in the dark for the last 3 hours i was sitting there. Then, come to find out the staff has "lost" (thrown away) my husbands sling that they had charged us for and wouldn't replace it. And on top of everything, everyone on the floor was completely oblivious. Never gave him his meds on time, didn't bring him food without being asked, very uncooperative, and very unattentive. And lastly they kept us waiting several hours past the time the were supposed to release him and when they finally did come for him, it was just some random guy who shoved him in a wheel chair and left ME in the room while i was still packing up his things to go home, and then LEFT HIM ON THE CURB OUTSIDE. Didn't stay and wait with him or at least wait for me. Just left him there. I was furious. Like I said, his DR was amazing, but i refuse to ever go back there because the nurses and staff were all a joke.

jade hoopes

The problem I have with this place is yes they care while you're there to keep pain under control. But think it's a sin to prescribe a narcotic for more then a day! Not everyone is a drug addict. If you can see with your own 2 eyes someone needs pain management for a temporary period help them out quite treating everyone as an addict.

Robert McLaughlin

I work here, best care anywhere.

Janee Doee

Thank you for saving my life!

Rebecca Rogers

I ended up in the emergency room at University of Utah Hospital due to the results of malpractice at St. Mark's. The ER staff at University Hospital were very friendly and knowledgeable. They made every effort to relieve my abdominal pain and advise me on how to manage my symptoms in the future. Even when my pain made me anxious, every staff member who treated me was compassionate and sought to understand the cause of my distress. They were very respectful to me the entire time I was there. Dr. Matthew Fuller was wonderful. He determined the cause of my abdominal pain and referred me to the best gastroenterologist. He used excellent discretion in regards to what tests and medications to administer.

Kayla Bobzien

Google maps doesn't lead you where you need to go when you type in the address. No one on the phone could help me with directions and if anything commented on how I was going to be late for my appointment and need to cancel it. When I finally found the parking lot with 5 min to go before I was forced to cancel, I knew I would never find a spot or make it down "clinical hall" or whatever to where I actually needed to be. When I canceled the appointment I chose not to reschedule. I had waited 2 months for the appointment. I thought I was going to be bummed to not give the U a chance, but they lost a patient due to terrible customer service and lack of logistical considerations of their patients knowing their location is in a tough to navigate area.

shaina jones

No help at all of where I was supposed to be been in hospital for a hour and called two people where the directing to two different places.

Becca Allen

I absolutely love this hospital! I've been taken care of wonderfully, many times before and it's been so fantastic. I grew up in primary children's hospital and graduated to the university hospital, going from a wonderful place to another wonderful place was such a wonderful experience. I'm glad the university hospital is my hospital.

This Hospital saved my life....Our family vacation in Rexburg Idaho in the sanddunes turned into a tragic event. If not for the flight for life team and the trauma center in Saltlake City I know I would not be here writing a review today. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all the doctors or should I say teams of doctors, nurses, and all students on my case. I came in with collapse lungs both, a broken collar bone, my L1 L2 in my back was broken, and a aortic dissection that was ripped from the inside out &all the way from top to bottom. Dr. kumpati you are a heart magician. 10 days in a medical comma I can't believe I survived this and still here 4 years later. Thank you to all who was any part of my survival.

Doug Fish

Very happy with results for my wife she had a spinal tap done and feels 1000 times better

I had a remarkably negative experience delivering my first child here. I regret choosing and trusting my doctor, and there was a *horrible* nurse named Irma who was unbelievably unprofessional and rude to me and my family. I had been in labor for over 24 hours and was trying to "walk it out" around my tiny hospital room when finally my water broke and she got frustrated with me and spat, "well, now who do you think has to clean this up?" My husband and I were shocked, (and even started to clean up ourselves before she angrily shooed us away) but we were so relieved that I finally had progressed a little bit, and still had a long road ahead that we didn't have time or energy to think about complaining. I ended up needing an emergency c section and I remember Irma rolling her eyes and telling me I'd be fine. Look- I left the hospital with a healthy baby and I know that's a big win for sure, but the care I recieved was unbelievably bad. I had my second child at a different hosptial and was blown away at the difference of care, compassion, and attention I recieved. If I were you, I'd really consider looking elsewhere.

I have always had good experiences when I go to this hospital. No one wants to go to the hospital, but the U of U hospital employees try to make it a good experience.

Rachel Banaszewski

I was extremely impressed with the level of care I received when in the hospital. The staff went above and beyond to make me comfortable and to help me heal quickly.

Brandy Webster

I had my kidney transplant here. I couldn't be happier with the experience.

I had preterm contractions. They lasted all night and morning. I went in and they had me lay on my back for fetal monitoring. I was having a hard time breathing with all the pressure laying on my back at 32 weeks. They said they would bring pillows to reposition and never came back. The IV was put in incorrectly and i mentioned it to nurse jordan along with the positioning and how uncomfortable, she was very rude and said its where it needs to be. ya i don't think you were ever having contractions anyways just dehydrated. Then the doctor said we are discharging you since you aren't contracting anymore. I told them i am contacting still. It didnt stop and the monitors fell off awhile ago. When i brought up the the doctor the nurse about how she told me that this placee isn't suppose to be comfortable cause you aren't moving in and the lack of respect all the way down to no gown and open door. The nurses response to it is we've been busy thats why we didn't come in or check on you.. and we are letting you go cause we don't see contractions. Come back if your water breaks. I told her my water didn't with my other kids and this is how labor felt.. she said i just think youre dehydrated and replird verbatim .. so let's get you out of this aweful place and then you are always welcome to write a review. Jordan was the nurses name and the doctor was marcela carolina. I found out in the hospital at delivery I had preclampsia and the emergency room visit should have diagnosed me but were too busy to help me and my baby ss dr my due date was incorrect so I was further along and in real danger.

Blake Green

It has been the most unorganized hospital I've ever dealt with! I haven't been able to call them and get an answer once! Hope I NEVER go there again!!

Nickolas Dunkley

It's like they are hiring teens from McDonald's to run the emergency facility.. (except the ultra sound lady, she was amazing). but there were no manners, no respect there was no pain management, no communication..the nurse only came in once and we were in there 2 hours.. worst emergency care!!! I will NEVER go back!!

Carrie Mehr

I visited a specialty care provider a few times connected with this hospital. Not only was I charged a co-pay for my visits (which I expected) but additional payments for the hospital itself which I did not visit at all. I ended up spending more for three visits than and entire inpatient week stay at the IMC in Murray for more care. I will never return to this hospital because, in this valley, there are so many better options.

Barry Sell

The hospital security stood by with their fingers up their collective butt as a nurse was assaulted by a police officer from outside of his jurisdiction. My wife is a ED nurse and this is total wrong to continue to allow police abuse in this country! It's a nurses responsibility to protect his or her patient. Not only should the officers involved do prison time. The chief should be fired and hospital security on staff in the ED at that time be escorted off hospital property as well!

mae blu

My dad was in here and the hospitality for the patients and families was great RN Tia treated us like her sisters and we felt so welcomed

BILL FILLBY

Patient parking is like gambling; always go valet during the day. Scheduled outpatient lithotripsy in advance for 1230-100pm. Feels like I’ll need back surgery now just sitting and waiting in pre-op and it’s now 5pm. At least a different nurse has told us new times every hour: 2pm, 3pm, 4pm, 5pm

Loriea Lee

Very quick at getting people in

Max Sergeev

A bit surprised to see all the negative reviews. I personally have never had bad experience at the U Hospital. Clinical staff is knowledgeable and attentive. Never had any issues with their customer service.

Eric Thacker

I have FAP and have a growth on my spine, causing me tremendous pain so that I can barely walk... I came into the urgent care today to get some help and they didn't do anything. Told me that they would give me some ibuprofen for the crippling pain I'm going thru. And that they didn't need to give me anything to help me be able to move... Thanks for having such great patient care!!! I'd rather die than come up to the u for anything again.

Robert McDonald

U of U health plans are a scam. Cost $1,250 a month for Silver 73% PPO and still cost over $8,000 (out of pocket) for the delivery of my child.

Derek Arthur

Best care anywhere.

Sean Brant

They do a great job taking care of their patients, they are quick and efficient, and they do a good job communicating with their patients and their family members.

Luna Lantrenella

Continual treatment here has been one of the biggest mistakes of my life. It's my fault for coming here... but I kept having faith in the system because of their positive reviews and awards - I thought I was just having bad luck. I've had at least 50 appointments in 6 years within their healthcare system. - I have a severe spinal issue, which would have been detected 2 years earlier if they Radiology team hadn’t incorrectly denied an MRI request (they did so indignantly too, which was weird). - Despite them being in one medical system, none of the doctors seem to read each other's notes. I have an elusive diagnosis that took years to figure out, but in re-reading my records... the very first doctor I saw had figured it out. But none of the following doctors ever read that or came to that conclusion (I had to get a diagnosis elsewhere). - They're always rushed and only care about getting your money. I never left an appointment feeling fully taken care of (across 5 departments). - I've had them inject epidermal needles in my spine without using scans (which I since learned every other hospital does since, y'know, it's your spine). - It's a research hospital, and there are tons of students. Which is fine, that's how they learn! But $400 appointments were turned over to students who I didn't feel comfortable talking to/they didn't know what they were doing. I paid $2,000 for an 8 hour neurology test that was supposed to be with a doctor, but they had the technician do it instead, which skewed the results. - None of the nurses (literally none of them) can start an IV on me, so sometimes they get an ultrasound machine (which they charge extra for). They hit a nerve one time, and there were two times where I had blood all over my clothes & towels. Every other hospital I've been to can start an IV their first try. - I've had a doctor contact my insurance company to tell them to stop covering the costs of therapy for me (without consulting me). - I'm constantly having to contact billing for mistakes. They 'accidentally' sent me to collections for a $6,600 bill that didn’t exist. Basically - don’t go here.

William Isbell

They are great with premature babies.

Heather Chadwick

I had to go to U of U hospital to have surgery on my back. I went to the farmington and salt lake location. Everyone was kind and compassionate from the receptionist, the nurses/EMT's, the doctors and the xray techs. Everyone at the Farmington location was considerate and understanding of the amount of pain I was in at the time. I met with Dr. Spina, he was curtious and honest about what he thought needed to be done. Fast forward to the date of surgery. From the moment we walked into the building we were treated like royalty!!! Jon at check in was friendly and cheerful. We had an employee get off the elevator before his floor so that we could fit my wheelchair in the elevator. Once back in the exam room everyone we encountered was awesome! My RN Joey was knowledgeable, friendly and funny! One of the surgeons came in and explained everything in detail that was going to be done and was open to question/concerns. The Anesthesiologist was funny/personable and his student (I wish I could remember his name!!!) Was so amazing. He was having a hard time with my IV (my veins are always super hard) he made sure I wasn't in pain during the entire time and redirected the needle instead of poking me a bunch of times, which I greatly appreciated. When I was in the O.R I was getting scared and started to cry, the student started to talk to me and calm me down. He was sincere and compassionate. Another employee Travis started to talk/joke with me and ask me questions about myself to distract me. I was very appreciative of this. After surgery/ recovery and back in an exam room everyone I encounter was friendly and attentive. Every question we asked was answered respectfully and knowledgeably. All around a great experience. Thank you U of U!!

Craig Gilbert

Amazing staff. Friendly and helpful

Wendy Fenton

Dr Orlandi at the ENT Clinic and his team are wonderful and they provide great care and sincerity.

Brian Udall

I went to their urgent care to check on some stomach pain and the guy was convinced I had pancreatitis. He sent me to the ER and when I got to the doctor she was totally confused as to why he had done that since it was pretty obviously not pancreatitis to her. Ended up with a $1,400 bill for a misdiagnosis. They did a review of my bill because I told them what happened in their feedback but apart from saying sorry that they misdiagnosed me, they didn't do anything. Still paying that off. This is probably why people don't go to hospitals.

Frank Parth

I explained I didn't have any health insurance they accepted and needed to be seen as general admit/discharge. She said that ICU was the only place I was allowed to be admitted which turned out not to be true. Waiting to see if my staff infection gets any worse to determine if I need to sell my car to have it looked at it as I just moved here from out of state and my credit cards are all maxed out. The girl who refused to admit me was extremely condescending.

Chris Albright

This hospital is so advanced and cover so many conditions. It's comforting knowing I'll be in great hands any time I'm at the UofU.

Lisa Conner

My husband is not one to complain about anything. He has literally been to the hospital once in the 14 years I’ve known him. We were on our way to the airport when he started having severe pain to the point where he told me to pull over. He said to take him the hospital. This is not like him. I found this hospital and it had 4 star reviews, so I brought him here. On a scale of 1-10 he was an 8-10 pain level for the first 3 hours we waited in the ER. It was like we were at a damn restaurant, first come first served. His or the others I could visually see in pain truly didn’t matter to them. He waited 7.5 hours in the waiting room at the ER before being taken to an actual room. I had to take my two kids home after waiting 4 hours in the waiting room as they could no longer be cooped up. When my husband finally gets back they don’t even do the right procedures for him to know if he’s ok. They basically said, you seem fine you can be on your way. He was there for 11.5 hours!! 4 hrs in a room and 7.5 hours in the waiting area. And today he is still in pain, meaning there is something still wrong that they didn’t catch. This is our first and last visit to that ER. And I’ll be sure to let everyone I know to never visit that ER if they are truly in pain. I’d give them Zero stars if I could. I have never waited this long for any medical procedure/condition in my entire life. By far worst ER I’ve ever been to.

Pat Knighton

Went the South Jordan location then main hospital. Gosh both were so quick to help me. Needed emergency surgery for an appendix, was into surgery a few hours later. My stay was outstanding. I feel as tho the staff and facility are the best in the nation. Such a skilled and compassionate group. Thank you U of U hospital.

Phillip Rhoades

I've always experienced kind and caring service at UofU hospital.

Josh Meacham

Excellent, Excellent facilities and kind and helpful staff

Ben Lloyd

If you go anywhere else in the state just square with the fact that your care would have been better here.

Alicia Sierra

Worst hospital to deliver a baby, patient care is extremely poor. People don't seem like their trained enough well to do their job or don't even know what they are doing. Never again will be delivering at this hospital again.

Eston Humphrey

My wife works here and I had my baby here. This is the best place to work or be a patient.

Carl Dunlap

Just like any company you have got to learn the ropes! Oh, and you have to ask allot of questions at first .... they have allot of devices to help you out “RAISE YOUR HAND!”

Court Elwood

Staff here is nice but to busy and have no patience. The doctors lie to patients in hopes that they will just go along with their lies, demands, and other B.S. I left against medical advice after I was promised a bunch a lies the doctor staff agreed to when I was admitted. But then when nothing was going as they promised I had enough and walked out. I hate being lied to by someone who has ur life in their hands. I recommend maybe a smaller more personable hospital that actually cares about their patients and making sure they are comfortable as much as possible when they are sick and away from home.

Wayne Gavin

Always the best experience

Great doctors!! I haven’t been to a specialist that I wasn’t happy with and I have to several.

My wife and I would like to caution those looking to give birth here. We delivered our newborn here in February 2017--this review specifically addresses the health care provided during the birth itself, not the prenatal obstetric care. The major issue we encountered was while the nurse providing pre-birth care to my wife attempted to insert an IV into her arm. She was having trouble finding a vein and admitted to us in the meantime that she hadn't inserted an IV in a long time. Instead of seeking more experienced help, the nurse tried to force the needle into the wrist and ended up striking the bone and nearby nerves, causing my wife the worst pain she has ever experienced (and she's run several marathons and given natural birth). The injury was diagnosed in several subsequent visits by our obstetrician, who is also an employee of this hospital. This injury affected my wife's use of her wrist and hand and caused her pain in those areas for months afterward, and the injury still lingers today, almost a year later. We reached out to the Customer Service/Dispute Resolution Center afterward, seeking some kind of restitution for the negligent care. The office informed us that we would need to procure several costly diagnostic tests to determine the nature and extent of the injury and nerve damage, all at our own expense. The office would then examine the results of the tests and only then would decide whether it would pay to resolve the injury. We were not in the financial position to afford such tests and were thus unable to meet these demands. Thus, we received no recompense whatsoever for the negligence of the nurse. Further, much of the other nurses' care was in general poor quality. During the next-day visit to the pediatrician, the pediatrician discovered that our newborn had lost 12% of his body weight due to dehydration. None of our post-birth nurses identified this or addressed it in the hospital, even though my wife noticed white residue around his lips and his lips sticking together and directly pointed this out to the nurses; none took any action. Additionally, they forgot the medication schedule for my wife several times. Despite receiving excellent prenatal care from the OBS at the hospital, we will not be returning and encourage caution to others.

They are great, and accomend people wishes. The main reason I didn’t give it the five stars is due to in how I was treated by one of the nurses, and they said I could see my child in 3 hours and it took 5 hours or longer to actually see her. The nurse didn’t listen to what I had to say, felt or anything. She treated me like I was dumb due to I couldn’t express how I felt due to I was so exashated and wasn’t sure how my body was doing. Everyone else was great. There is a few other things that bothered me about what happened while I was there, but that is the main thing. Also, I didn’t feel the midwifes was as involved as I thought they would be or as much as they make it sound like it would be. Some was better then others.

ThatGuy 801

I'd give them 5 starts if it was not for the operators on the phone. Have me wait for 2 hours to be told that the lady's on the phone lie and shouldn't tell me things that they know nothing about. Thanks for having me wait for 2 hours in pain lady's. To the on call doctor, I'm sorry for being angry please understand I'm just in pain, and the operators just lied to me to make me more upset.

Brian Peters

This hospital is fantastic.

Cherrie Jacob

This is the best hospital visit I had. Dr Andrew Dailey MD is the best. I had surgery on my back and he did a great job. They served great food. The hospital did a great job taking the time with each patient.

Simona Hendrix

I have always had good experiences when I go to this hospital. No one wants to go to the hospital, but the U of U hospital employees try to make it a good experience.

Brea Unger

Andrew Hubert

Good medical care but patient family amenities are lacking. Horrible waiting rooms. They charge mor for food than the local restaurants. Way to take advantage of the people in their time of need. I would recommend other hospitals first if you have a choice. They are more caring and will not try to milk you for every cent you have while your loved one is in the hospital

Dr Orlandi at the ENT Clinic and his team are wonderful and they provide great care and sincerity.
