Tore my labrum in my shoulder and Dr Willis repaired it on February 15. Although a torn labrum can take up to 12 months to recover from, the pain has been night and day. Great to work with, I’d highly recommend him.

Never ever was I going to have a shoulder replacement....out of fear! After 30 plus years of dealing with pain, unsuccessful treatments, and therapy, the pain became unbearable and my range of motion was greatly impaired! Dr. Matthew Willis came highly recommended! My first visit was with Austin the Physician Assistant. He is amazing, brilliant and explained in as much detail as I wanted the entire procedure of a shoulder replacement, showing me models of the replacement! He is kind, attentive and knowledgeable! Next visit was with Dr. Willis! Again, I met a brilliant surgeon I felt would take the best care of me possible and I left feeling very assured of his abilities, experience and confidence! The preop preparedness was great! After the educational class I was almost looking forward to getting it done! I am now 2 weeks post op and I am essentially pain free! Even after surgery, I was in less pain than before! Dr Willis is what everyone said....he’s the best! Thank you Dr Willis for all your years of hard learning and all you sacrificed to be the great surgeon you are....and for hiring Austin!! I can’t tell you how grateful I am that people like you work so hard to help us old folks have a better quality of life! Thank you!

The staff is friendly and professional. The wait to see the provider was not long and the exam room was clean. The doctor took his time and explained his treatment plan clearly. He had to perform a procedure to draw fluid out of my shoulder and I hardly felt a thing. A pleasant experience considering the circumstances.

Great experience. I came to Dr. Willis for a second opinion. He gave perfect explanation of the procedure I was going to need in the future. The diagnosis and course of action prescribed by the original physician, wasn't what Dr. Willis would have advised, and he explained why. After having 3 surgeries from a different doctor I went to Dr. Willis at TOA. Because my shoulder was so badly damaged from the prior surgeries he told me there was a good chance I wouldn’t get much better. I couldn’t hold my arm out straight, with my hand not any higher than my waist. Dr. Willis had to do a complete reverse shoulder replacement. I went into this surgery feeling positive he would make it better. Easy surgery for me but not for him. I did not have a lot of pain. I had lived with pain an entire year from the other surgeries so maybe that’s why. I took pain meds the day I came home from hospital and one more day, after which Tylenol was all I needed. Physical therapy started slow about 3 weeks in I thought it was not going to be better. I kept going.... NEVER GIVE UP! Five months of physical therapy and I’m here to tell you Dr. Willis and the therapists are amazing. I praise God them. Maybe a little determination on my part. I can now raise my arm straight up over my head. I’m not going to say it was easy or that I don’t still have some pain. Certain movements cause a very little bit of pain. I know it will take my continuing physical therapy at home. A lot of it is doing what you would normally do. I’m going to Planet Fitness just to get active again. If it matters for you to know, I am a 69 year old woman, so don’t let your age be a factor. Just do what Dr. Willis and the therapists say and be determined. Good luck to all who may be facing shoulder surgery ie: repair or replacement. I’ve had both.

Dr. Willis is as good as they come. He's attentive, responsive, and an excellent surgeon. I couldn't raise my arm when I first visited him. He didn't just jump to surgery, but when I finally had to have a very complicated surgery, he did all the research, consulted with peers, and went over and above to ensure a successful result. He and his staff have stayed "with me" throughout my recovery. I can't thank them enough.

Long-standing shoulder issues, both shoulders. Referred to TOA by my caregiver, Advanced Spine and Pain clinic, Dr. Arehart in Crossville. Following MRI at TOA, Dr. Willis reviewed and seemed to know exactly where and what the problems were. I got on the surgery list quickly and within a month, surgery was completed and I was out of the hospital essentially the same day. Recovery was a couple months and physical therapy was completed within that post surgery time frame. While I dont believe I'll ever have totally "normal" shoulders, I DO have the utmost respect and confidence in Dr. Matt Willis, his staff and Tenn Orthopaedic Alliance. I will remain their patient as long as my shoulders are giving me problems. Hopefully, one day in the future, Dr. Willis will be doing my full or partial shoulder replacement. If you are having similar issues, recommend you get your referral and go visit TOA. I (and they) know how painful and life-limiting this kind of problem can be.
