REVIEWS OF Regional Health Rapid City Hospital IN South Dakota

My wife presented with neurological symptoms. They drew blood and performed a CT. They said all test WNL. She continued to be symptomatic, and they tried to discharge her before MD discussing results. They discharged her anyways, after sending MD in, even though she advocated for her self and explained she was still having symptoms and needs help and a plan; the MD’s response was, “there are tons of tests we could order, including MRI, but the MRI techs would threaten to quit if I called them in on a weekend for non-life threatening situations.” She explained, “you cant and wont search further for an explanation for treatment, so how do you know its non-life threatening.” So he gave a referral to neurology. Very poor service with Rapid City ED providers.

I am deeply saddened by Regional Health today. I received a letter in the mail notifying me that I had been sent to collections for an unpaid medical bill through Regional Health. I was terrified as I have always paid all my bills on time, and have never received a statement in regards to said balance. The amount was 24.20$ so I of course just paid this amount in full to the collection company. I then contacted Regional Health's billing office to discuss how to avoid this situation in the future. I notified the billing office that I have never received a statement, Amanda, the manager I spoke with told me she could see that I had not received a statement, as my mail was on hold for an incorrect address. I clarified my address (which was correct all along). Amanda stated that the billing statement was returned to them, I asked why they would not telephone me to set up a payment arrangement or clarify my address. Eventually I could feel the frustration and Amanda decided to send me to the main billing office. I was then transferred to a very disrespectful and unkind individual. I mean seriously the only thing I wanted to do was to make sure I get my bills so I can pay them and not be sent to collections. Needless to say, I was unable to get any resolution, and the gal I spoke with refused to let me speak to her manager, went so far as to hang up on me. I was trying to express my concern that I did not receive a bill, or statement of any kind, not only via USPS, but also through Regional's My Chart program. The "Team Lead" I spoke with at the main billing office was just completely unprofessional and unkind. So saddened by this as I have always had excellent care from health care providers at Regional Health. I will take my business elsewhere from this point forward and I highly encourage anyone with a financial conscience to do so as well. Such a sad situation.

I was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident. Dr. Labrie and his team have given me a chance to recover. I can't express my gratitude to the staff at Regional. It will be many months before I can walk again. I will return someday to thank them personally for all the care I have received.

The Doctors are great but the billing and administration are crooks. Upcoding to increase the cost, balance billing the insurance write-off, double billing services and not returning phone calls. I go out of my way to avoid any dealings with this facility now.

Rachel Jeffs

I was not impressed with my experience with the nurses on the 5th floor in ICU. They were not considerate of my desires to see my mother and upheld decisions made by a man convicted in prison on her behalf

Andie Randall

Worst hospital ever!! Biggest mistake of my life having my family member go here, he ended up dying. :( I reported the hospital, and was told it has tons of violations, but it’s the only hospital nearby. If you can, make the trip to Mayo instead.

Lee Swindler

The staff took great care of mean but they seemed to be a bit short on doctors

Lea Hobbs

My son had his appendix out..Staff was wonderful... But watch out for billing it's been 3 months and we are still receiving bills...it cost over$18,000 . Seems quite extreme and with no explanation of what we are being charged for.

I went to the Rapid city ER Monday night with an injury to my eye. Weed eating in my yard something hit my eye really hard. I have never felt so much pain. They helped me and was very professional They were quick too and they numbed my pain while I waited. When they sent me home I got scared and went back. I expected them to be mad but they were very nice and they helped me again. Just want to say thanks for not making feel bad andbeing patient with me. You were really there for me and I was really scared when I couldn’t see out of my eye. Thank you again for helping me,you guys really have you act together. Nice job and thank you again.

Can't even appreciate that they helped my dad to breath again, because all I did was worry they would kill him with an infection. Yes, people, that is urine from the other bed sitting next to the paper towels. The nurse handled medication for both patients and did not wear gloves or wash hands in between. My dad is allergic to penicillin so this could have been detrimental. Another nurse dropped her glove while putting it on then picked it up off the floor, put it on and continued to help the other patient. The housekeeper wiped the hazardous container and continued to wipe the sink with the same cloth. So many more observations! I expressed my concerns and was told they have come a long way. I wish you RC people had another choice!

The first time I visited there for myself was horrible. I had my two year old daughter with me and they offered no support to give her food or drink while I was stuck in bed until I begged they at least fed her. The worst part being they treated me with medicines I repeatedly told them I was allergic to and offered a treatment in which I now have two physicians saying on my case would cause severe effects and major possibility of death. So needless to say I was not happy. Though I credit the ambulance team to great service with both my daughter and me. The billing department sends out false collections notices in which legally they can not send out unless they have received zero payment towards the account. When I brought my daughter in for a head bump we waited for close to an hour to be seen. The nurse and the doctor who saw her we're very nice. They really didn't spend more then two minutes with her but at least they listened and understood. Overall one good experience does not make me want to ever go back to a place giving medicines your allergic to or harassing me for money in which they are receiving. Maybe not in full cause not everybody has it in full but your receiving your damn money so leave me alone. Not to mention I want one itemized bill not eighteen coming at different months thats ridiculous. And to charge for facilities that's what a hospital is for.

What a great hospital. My mom had to go in for a major heart surgery on the 14th and we were so lucking to have such great doctors, nurses, and all the way down the line taking care of her. Even the gentlemen who brought her food in one morning i was there was so nice. Really she was in great hands.

Cindy Steele

I just got out of the hospital after surgery, I had complications with meds that were given to me and the nursing staff were out to lunch In recognizing my declining mental health. They never got me up for walks or help me take care of my daily care. There is much, much more that this to report. If my daughters and husband hadn't stepped in, it could have worse. The nursing care is not up to their jobs. This ordeal will take a while to recover from.

Treonna Kratz

This establishment is a joke...my best friend died of cancer because her doctors did not know how to take care of her or maintain the port in her chest to get chemo and they lack communication between each other and departments... now my husband has fallen I'll with his gallbladder and it has taken them 6 months to get a diagnosis and the only reason they got a diagnosis is because we sought a specialist out of Portland, Oregon. This is ridiculous they kill more people then they save. I am currently sitting in the ER watching my husband in agonizing stomach pain, just have them tell us they won't do surgery because its the weekend. Regional you're terrible in serious situations.

Crawford Library

Awesome nurses on 6th floor. Very comforting when professionals are confident in the skill of others. May God bless you all!

Katrina Williamson

Rapid city regional has a TERRIBLE time communicating between nurses and doctors. And treat everyone like a pain pill addict! My husband was in excruciating pain for 36 hours! I cannot describe the anger I had watching him cry out in pain! I will continue to post about my experiences with regional health until my voice is heard!

Bev Coomes

Everyone has been so nice & helpful! Great place to be when you are sick!

Brad R. Banks

Fraudulent billing practice at best, slow service, being charged for services never rendered. This place is so disorganized it is ridiculous! They bill you for services never agreed to have done and bill for services that never happened whatsoever. I would give then a -10 if I had the option. If at all possible go somewhere else. And this dive wants to be #1 that will NEVER happen, ever!

Kyra Anderson

This hospital is by far the slowest hospital I have ever been to. The staff had a bad attitude and were not very helpful. It took the RN 10 minutes to answer my call button. If I had a serious condition I definitely would have been dead by the time the RN came in. Not only that but she was not moving quickly, more of a slow walk and rudely asked what I wanted.

Jake Hasz

Had my baby delivered here and I’m pretty certain they hire the best pediatric and NICU nurses in the world.

In the last three years we've used Regional Health twice. Both times the financial services have had serious problems. The first time, we received a bill for our child's birth 6-9 months after she was born. A couple of days after receiving the bill, it was sent to collections. I called Regional about it and received poor customer service. I called collections about it and received great customer service. So great, in fact, that they cut the bill by 50%. We were happy, as we had already had the money on hand to pay the hospital for the services, expecting a timely bill. We literally saved thousands of dollars...by paying the bill within a week of receiving it. This second time, we are receiving a bill for services performed one year ago. A year! We had to go into my wife's old journal to figure out what the bill was even referring to. Again, we're receiving a collections notice for $70. As the monopoly hospital in this region, I am concerned what the lack of competition is causing. Are high medical prices due to poor payment processes from a lack of good financial system? If anyone from Regional with authority is reading this, you have read it correctly. With accurate names, addresses, and phone numbers the hospital has lost thousands of dollars for simply not billing us, and sending it to collections instead. (Collections had no problem contacting us, FYI).

Tom Hanusik

Did not like it ! Try a psychiatrist first! Unless you want no cell phone privileges and a staff member watching you undress and change. The staff can be really cool though. But one star cause it was hell for me.

Ziara Ruchkall

My mom came in after going to the walk in clinic near by. We live in Canada and my brother and I were staying in a hotel when she was administered. The hotel prompteley kicked us out and was not only rude and inconsiderate but had no compassion and threatened to call child services. Keep in mind we are 14 and 16 and can handle ourselves. When my mom got the news one of the nurses acted quickly to make sure we arrived safe and calmed my mother while she waited. Once we arrived the staff was friendly and well organized. The were consistently sanitizing their hands and wearing gloves. They informed us about everything that was happening and kept us entertained while my mother had scans. The nurses went out of their way to make sure myself and my mother were alright and demonstrated some of the best health care we’ve ever seen. This is a kind and cleanly environment that takes care of those in need.

STFU Morn

TBIs are not taken seriously here. For your safety, demand a CT scan for any head injury you are admitted for.

joan thompson

It's amazing you can come into the er and within two hours they can do blood work, cat scan see 2 doctors and decide to admit you. But 5 hours later still waiting for a room.

Rex Moyer

Using the cancer wing. All employees are very nice and lots of smiles. Always on time with treatment and reviews. No complaints !!

Paige Railstone

Came into the emergency room with an allergic reaction. Exposure to the allergen in the past has sent me into anaphylactic shock. After entering their winding, covered cattle chute of an emergency room entrance, they left me in alone in a room for over a half an hour completely unsupervised with my condition worsening before giving me medication. They double charged my deductible, and I paid it rather than let it go into collections and damage my credit. As a final middle finger to me they sent my bill to collections anyway, despite the fact that I paid the bill in full. All the words I have for this hospital are four letters long and not for use in polite company. UPDATE: Over a year after my trip to their emergency room, I've received word that the bill that I have already paid TWICE has been sent to collections, AGAIN. This time without even sending me the bill first. If you're not dying, go to Black Hills Urgent Care/Surgical Hospitals or make a trip to Denver or Minneapolis. If you value your health and financial well-being, consider getting air lifted to another hospital if possible. These people expect me to pay them three times for the same exact $151.00 bill for a single benadryl.

Let's start with the ED. First I was sent home and couldn't walk. I want back to the ED the next day for progressing symptoms. The ED RN missed my IV. She insisted she didn't. I told her it was infiltrated, and she said "I NEVER MISS". Then walked out. I didn't tell her I'm an advanced provider and had been a nurse longer than she was alive. After my arm was swollen from the IV leaking in, they switched it. Next, I was admitted. I had blood cultures taken. The lab tech drew my blood cultures from ONE arm, ONE site. I said, "Aren't you supposed to draw from two sites?". Again, not saying, I'm an RN, you need to draw from 2 sites... He said... No. I NEVER draw from 2 sites. Then, upon leaving the room, he said, "But if the nurse asks you, I drew from 2 sites". After a week of filthy rooms, shared patient room where staff tried to make us use the other patient's toilet hat, nursing laughing at patients, and sub-standard care from providers, we were glad to be transferred to another facility that did the opposite: provided excellent care. Having two patients in the room, we had to share a bathroom. The Dr. wanted to monitor my urine. Staff tried to make me use the other patient's toilet hat. I said, "that's not mine". They said yes it is, it says bed A. Well... I hadn't had a bowel movement since admit, so that's clearly from the other patient... with Hep C... because we share a room HIPPA goes out the door. Nurses laughed and suggested my issue was psychological. Clearly goes across standards of nursing. Rapid is so in need of nurses that literally ANYONE who is an RN get's in. My nurse couldn't barely understand English. She wrote down that I take Percocet daily. I had to tell pharmacy and the hospitalist that that's what they gave me after my pregnancy for a few weeks for pain 5 YEARS AGO. She wrote down that I took it daily. The Nurse didn't understand what basic procedures were and I had to ask the doctor directly. Finally, we were transferred to another hospital in Sioux Falls. The care difference is night and day. Not only did we receive excellent care, we received a definitive diagnosis from Sioux Falls that Rapid could not provide. There is a SYSTEM WIDE issue with providing POOR QUALITY and SUB STANDARD care. We really need one of the two systems in Sioux Falls to just start building here to create an alternative that everyone will run to. If you need surgery, and it's not emergent... GO TO DENVER, OR GO TO SIOUX FALLS. There is an obvious culture and problem system wide at Regional. Changing CEOs isn't going to do it. We just need a Rockstar competitor to come in.. only then will they up their game. If you can avoid it, go somewhere else.

Everyone is very friendly. I had to reschedule my MRI because my doc forgot to order sedation.

I hate to say anything negative because most of staff at Rapid City Regional was wonderful but a couple of things really upset me. My God Daughter gave birth there and when it was time to leave we notified the nurse she was ready. The nurse showed up without a wheelchair. My God Daughter had a difficult labor and was having a hard time walking and often feels like passing out when just standing. The only walking she did before leaving the hospital was to the bathroom on her room and each time she needed assistance to help her walk. The nurse walked ahead of us and seemed irritated that my God Daughter was walking so slow. My second issue is that they seem to not understand HIPPA very much. The nurses were all a buzz about how the woman in room 205 gave her old last name when she checked in. They were loud and the conversation went on for at least a half an hour. I can tell you the patients name (I won't say it because someone should respect privacy) and I can explain in detail why she checked in under a different last name.

This place is unsanitary, unprofessional, and unorganized. This hospital doesn't even deserve to have one star I am so disappointed at this place! I watched three nurses clean up hazardous trash in a room without gloves. I then heard them talk to each other about who wanted to get the dead guy out of the room very loudly outside my room. Disgusting!

Neva Stands

I gave birth to my daughter here, the staff were non existant, rude and so unprofessional. It was my very first child birth, I will never forget being told to be quiet as if giving birth didnt require any noise or pain!? The treatment was so bad I literally fear for anyone especially pregnant, elderly or children here. I feel bad people get flown here for any treatment. I would never go here or recommend it to anyone. And no I wont reach out to call, theres no point. No need to bother with a fake comment.

This review is directed primarily towards billing. Seen in the ER on 2 separate days towards the end of July during a family vacation. Daughter received adequate care, although our first physician could not be bothered to contact my daughter's specialist as we had requested. No surprise we were back two days later. Rapid City Emergency Services billed me on 8/02/2016 (this is the physician's group). Regional Health (hospital, separate bill)had zero issues going through my out of state insurance. Rapid City Emergency Services issue a claim with incorrect information (fault on their end since Regional Health had correct information) one time and turn attention towards me. Sent 3 statements with final statement due 10/27/2016. Frustrated, I called Rapid City Emergency Services on 10/18/2016 and am told my bill had been turned over to collections. I was fuming at this point. Not only was I turned over to collections after only 75 days, but there was no warning and was done prior to my statement due date. This was when I discovered they weren't even attempting to go through my insurance. I rushed to fax my dated bill that day so they could pull it from collections per their request. Dated fax receipt of 10/18/2016 at 11:47 PST. That provided 3 full business days to follow through on their end with collections. Received notice of collections dated 10/24/2016. Now, I am in a position where I have to fight with collections and stay on top of my credit reporting. Frustrating, especially considering Regional Health had no issues with receiving payment through my insurance. Rapid City Emergency Services billing department put no effort into resolving this issue. They unsuccessfully filed a claim because they could not process the information correctly that we presented at the hospital. They then proceeded to bill me, and turned over to collections in 75 days? Terrible. How about calling the patient? How about providing notice of separate bills from the hospital? How about instructing staff not to state that, "Your account is paid in full," when an entire other account exists from the physician's group? EDIT (10/31/201): Spoke with a supervisor in the billing department today after contacting Collections who noted that no attempt had been made to pull back my account. Was told by the supervisor, "You know you aren't the only account we are dealing with," as well as, "I don't know what your concept of billing entails." These came after I objected to the fact that no action had been taken on my account for 13 days, 8 full business days. I prefer not to be spoken to in a condescending manner, especially when my expectations are in line with the promises made by your own staff

Come here if you want the worst possible health care in the nation. Watch out if you're a human of color as these health care "professionals" will target you and will intentionally mistreat you for things you don't need. The staff is slow, rude and overall unprofessional. You're better off traveling to a surrounding hospital.

Mary Capistrant

A recent trip to the emergency room turned out to be much less terrifying than I expected. The nurses and doctors were very thoughtful and kind. Much to my surprise they were cheerful and even funny at times. They made the incident a lot less scary.

Kt Qj

They couldn't even get my name correct because they had the wrong chart...

Jacob Wlodarczyk

We went to the ER because my girlfriend and I thought she was having a miscarriage, they put us in a room and some young kid took her blood and she said it hurt really bad the whole time that he was taking her blood, than we had to wait forever than finally a nurse and doctor came in, the doctors name was Brook Eide, they were both really intense and made my girlfriend feel so uncomfortable and even me, we asked questions and he was very rude with his answers, and than did a pelvic exam in which he roughly and quickly inserted the spectrum and evaluated for a matter of seconds and quickly removed the spectrum and leaves the room forever again and come back and tells us he doesn’t know if she’s having a miscarriage, is very short with us and tells us that she should go to her personal doctor as soon as she can. So the whole trip to the emergency room was a big waste of time and money.

Not Actually Myname

Horrible, unhelpful, incompetent, staff that will also laugh at you for asking a question. There is no such thing as a Stupid QUESTION. ESPECIALLY AT THE DOCTORS OFFICE!!!! SICK

Ritchie Nordstrom

The RCRH has greatly improved its service, but the bill collection service seems behind the curve. I've tried to set up auto payments and for some reason the auto payment drops off the list, then I must do a makeup payment. this process makes it challenging to stay on budget. This firm is the only agency where I must call in, which I'm doing currently, to insure that auto payments are continuing.

Rita Drury

Don't even want to give this place one star. Sitting with sevier abdominal pain told 5 hours. This hospital is a joke. Staff rude. And slow

Debby C

We were really impressed by the staff today. We checked into emergency and were shown to a room. The nurse was right in and took our info and made arrangements for tests. The tests were carried out promptly. Everyone was very courteous. Our nurse Nicole was very pleasant and helpful. The doctor was in to see us a couple of times and reviewed the tests and made sure we knew symptoms to watch for. Overall we thank everyone for the excellent care they gave.

LaVica Andre

I had surgery to remove a cancerous tumor. Met most of the surgical team prior to the procedure. Following surgery the nursing staff were very attentive. They noticed a problem with my heart and quickly took steps to resolve it. This required moving me from oncology to the cardiac unit. Again, the nursing staff was very attentive to my needs. They made sure I knew what medications the doctors had ordered and what to expect from each one. I am extremely pleased with the level of service and care I received and would not hesitate to go there again.

Stephanie Steele

I took my father to the emergency room because he was losing consciousness. We sat in the emergency department for over 7 hours, even after multiple inquiries about admitting him and moving him upstairs. Everyone knew of his extensive medical history, because I made sure of it. Nobody noticed that he has fesces on his bed or the floor until I sought someone out. We didn't find out until 24 hours after arriving that his kidneys and liver were failing on top of his preexisting conditions. He was on the ventilator for a week and ended up passing away because of their neglegence. Regional health is a joke. I'm sitting in the emergency room now with my fiance for the second time today because they can't figure out what's wrong. We unhooked sensors and nobody has even come to check. JOKE

Daisy Huntington

While traveling my husband became ill The hospital staff were amazing Fast diagnosis..meds...and back on the road Hubby felt 100% better just knowing nothing seriously wrong Thank you from Texas!

Breanna Rhodes

Don't apply for financial aid. They screw it up every time, lose paperwork, blame it on the patient but it back fires when I show theme proof but they make you go through hoops and are freaking clueless at their job.

Darin Newton

Unfortunately my dad has been at Regional Health Hosptal in Rapid City with complications from brain cancer treatment for almost two weeks now. It has been an incredibly frustrating experience. At no point have we felt that they are truly trying to get my dad better. He was have seizure activity for 3 days before they did anything about it. No surprise once they got that figured out he began to get better. We have to beg them to get him up and out of bed to walk. He had PT scheduled for today (finally!), but the nurse had given him a drug they we're not supposed to so he was too groggy to do any work. We have hardly seen any doctors, and when we do they do not listen. There is no continuation of doctors or nurses, so every day you end up saying the same things, and progress ends up being slow. In 2 weeks there have been a couple good doctors and a few good nurses, but the system has 100% failed my dad. I have never heard anyone say a good thing about this hospital, and I will never cease sharing our terrible experience. I can only hope we can get my dad out within a few days.

Tiffany Hoff

Had a great overall experience on the Labor and Delivery floor! Very caring doctors and nurses.

Kylie Adams

I could say good things about labor and delivery, but the emergency area I can say decent things. Missed the fact that I have stomach ulcers, barley even examine me or when I take my child in and then just dismiss us. I was literally crying in pain today just to be told it's nothing and to keep doing what I've been doing for almost a week. If it hasn't been working for that long and I'm coming in because of it then clearly it's not going to work after the visit. So frustrating there. The urgent care i go to is way better.

State Of Disaster

Staff is nice but directors don't care, all they want is profit. Also my 3 year olds bed still had dried blood on it from the ER... 2 stars for the uncleaned bed with blood. 100% not ok

P

Went in for an injured shoulder and severe joint pain on a day that the snow had shut down the local urgent care centers. Fairly sure I tore a tendon, as I have an existing injury in that shoulder from when I fell out of a tree as a child. It has never been treated, even after the initial fall, but I've had a dozen doctors tell me again and again that I need to be wary of any joint pain that develops because it could be indicative of a serious problem. Was given an X-Ray FOR JOINT PAIN. You know, the things that don't show up on an X-Ray? Doctor - who seemed impatient and rude - comes in and says that my shoulder, which I've been manually able to dislocate for 21 years now, without pain, that is suddenly in terrible pain, is "perfectly aligned and in perfect health" which I know is false because it's literally impossible as I grind and dislocate the joint as a nervous habit probably 20x a day. I accidentally rolled it while preparing to get the X-Ray and one of the nurses visibly shuddered and the other gasped, then both laughed at themselves for seeming unprofessional, but in their case, it is the normal reaction to seeing it. Most people full on freak out when I show them. The doctor then told proceeded to tell me that they don't have MRI access so he is just gonna refer me to an orthopedic surgeon, because you know, I can afford a walk-in to a surgeon's office. Don't go here unless you're dying. Oh and to top it off, they prescribed me with Naproxen! Can you take a guess at what that is? ALEVE! WHICH I TOLD THEM I'VE ALREADY BEEN TAKING! The doctors here treat their patients like they're idiots that have no idea what they're talking about.

Dr. Newman works for Rapid City Regional ER. This hospital is in network for Blue Cross/Blue Shield. What Dr. Newman will not tell you when he sees you is that he does not accept many of the insurances that the hospital he works for does, including Blue Cross/Blue Shield. This results in him sending you a gigantic bill and saying that he doesn't accept your insurance. Even though the hospital does and your "in network." The doctors are contracted, not employed by Regional ER and this allows them to refuse the in network facilities insurance. His deceptive insurance practices results in hard working innocent families, that are in their "in network" facility, having to pay large sums of hard earned money to him. And he gets your money with no provider discounts like the insurance companies get. You have to pay full price. How can you do this to people Mr. Newman. You are hurting people, not helping.

Phyllis Steele

My husband had been life flighted to RC Regional, we waited in the ER for nearly 7 hours before a room was ready, I traveled by car and when I got to his bay, it was ice cold and he had was not covered nor did he have a pillow, which I could not understand why as the many nurses seemed to have had plenty of time to stand around and visit and laugh, and when he finally did get a room he was squeezed into a private room in which he passed away. there is certainly more to this than I care to write. I was very disappointed. I called Eric in patient services and his words were " I am sorry you were dissatisfied with our service " Prior to the final visit my husband was admitted and I had to do his personal care, because it just was not being done, and had to empty a piece of equipment which was just totally uncalled for as it took many hours to fill, he had asked for items and not received them, its as though the entirety of the staff was well he;s going to die anyways, no big deal, I was never so frustrated with the inadequate service and care, on another occasion the doctor, and use that word lightly, showed up in casual clothes to work her shift and in stilettos, I can guarantee a staff of ice cubes works here, you want comfort go elsewhere. My aunt was on her death bed at another time and she vomited course she could not sit up but happen to get some on the floor nurse and the expression on this so called medical personnel's face, was quite astonishing, like my aunt did this intentionally, and the doctor came in and opened her eyes as though she were drugged and asked her to tell him what the problem was, well doctor she was in her last hours, oh just horrible horrible and substandard treatment, Go elsewhere, sioux falls sanford, great hospital,

El. Zuniga

The nurses were very rude. Acted very racist. And would get mad when we asked questions

SwiftJukesSucks

from my experience the nurses seem pretty mean. Will not go to again

Casey Liberty

Most of the nurses were fantastic! Very helpful and attentive. The emergency room service has issues, I believe due to over crowding. Food is typical of a hospital. Seem to be clean but the patient rooms are terrible, they gave no room and no privacy. Not setup right at all.

William Blair

My mother has been on 7th floor for a week this Monday. The nurse and staff seem competent. I have arrive to visit her from anywhere between 5:30 and 7:30pm. She usually has her supper brought in around 5:30pm then it sits on her table tray till whenever I arrive. Which has been anywhere from 1 to 2 hrs later.i I usually just start feeding her when I get there some time in the next half hour to 45 minutes someone comes in to check on her.She is elderly and cannot feed herself. She has been fed the same supper everyday she has been there.I am not sure she would even get supper if I didn't show up. A few times they have wanted to do treatment or catscan in the middle of me trying to get her fed(these times were around 7:00 and 7:30) .

Chad Mercy

Emergency room staff were very rude and treated the patients like numbers and not like people. I witnessed the patient check in personnel treat patients with disrespect on several occasions since I was in the waiting area for 2 hours waiting to be seen. This can be a new and frightening experience for alot of people and it's important that the the first people the patients encounter should be warm and kind. The patient check in personnel are literally the face of the hospital.

One star because zero stars isn't an option. Billing department is rude and unprofessional. Overall care and knowledge is laughable at best. If something out of the ordinary happens with your health, just look it up on Google, you will get better information. I'm surprised they haven't been sued out of existence.

Cheri Phillips

Horrible--Horrible place to go! Worst medical experience in my life--its not even a one star but it made me choose one!

Fallyn Wise

Had been in a few different times for severe gallbladder pain during my pregnancy, wasn’t seen by a doctor any time I was in there and they didn’t give me anything or do anything to help with my pain. They didn’t even suggest an over the counter medicine that might help. I was in excruciating pain just to feel stupid for coming in and wasting my time thinking they would help me.

Dewey Hamilton

The ladies in the birthing department are amazing. Super helpful and informative. Made the process amazing. Thanks all. Jess. Kat, Em, Tracy, Amanda, and everyone else.

Haley Krull

I had the best experience on labor and delivery. I’m currently still pregnant with twins but had to be transferred to Rapid for preterm labor. The nurses were so attentive and explained everything that was going on. They always asked if there was anything else they could do for me before leaving the room. I will be delivering there when it is time and I know I will be in a safe place where all of my needs will be met!

There was mold in my family members bathroom when she stayed there! Mold...

As visitor, we had huge famifa waiting rooms on each floor. And a place to lay down and rest, while I was visiting admittef family members.

My husband and I took our 7 year old daughter to the ER on July 5th. We went through triage right away where she had cellulitis that was rapidly spreading the entire length of her arm. She was running 102 fever. The nurse knew it was bad but said that there weren't any rooms available at the moment and that they were short staffed but they would get her back as soon as possible. We were seen in Spearfish the day prior where she was already given antibiotics and they drew on her arm around the infection. The antibiotics weren't working. We were already in Rapid City so it made no sense to drive back to a smaller hospital almost an hour away. We are also not from the area and were on vacation. We sat there for another hour and she was getting sicker by the minute. The ER was packed. There was a baby sitting there with his head bleeding and they did not call ONE SINGLE person back the entire time we sat there. I went to talk with the nurse about how dire our situation was and she said sorry there was nothing she could do and that there was still an hour+ wait. My husband and I decided to get her in the car and drive fast to Spearfish where there was currently no wait. They saw her right away and within 15 minutes there were 3 doctors (ER doc, Orthopedic Surgeon on call and a Pediatrician on call) and a number of nurses in her room putting an IV into her arm and getting her started on a stronger antibiotic. Her fever was now 103 and she was extremely lethargic. After running numerous tests, ultrasound on her arm and x-rays, she was admitted into the hospital with sepsis and cellulitis were we spent the next 3 days. Thankfully they understood what a sick little girl she was and took amazing care of her. Thankfully she recovered from the scariest part and that waiting at your hospital and driving to Spearfish didn't cost her her life. She got lucky. My worry about this hospital is what happens to the people in there who aren't as lucky? What if someone was having a heart attack or stroke in your ER? I am disgusted by the complete lack of care we received. I understand that hospitals get under staffed, but according to others around us...you are always understaffed. I do not blame the nurses. I could tell they wanted to help us but couldn't. This comes down to very poor management and I pray that no one loses their lives over how poor your level of care is.

I usually don't write reviews unless a place stands out to me - either in a good, or bad way. After reading all the negative reviews here I feel like I should include my experience. My wife and I had our first baby here a few days ago. We went in for an induced labor that ended in a c-section. All the nurses were great, attentive, gave often check ups, and seemed to enjoy what they are doing. I can't remember her exact role, but we had someone from higher up in the hospital (floor manager maybe?) stop in and ask how everything is going, if there's anything they can do better to make everything go as well as possible for us, and ask if we had any complaints. We really didn't have any issues other than when I ordered from the cafeteria, they seemed slightly "stingy" in that they kept "forgetting" to include items in my order, and gave an excuse that they couldn't give me a side salad because the personal pizza was too big and took up too much space on the tray (it was exactly the same size as every other plate). After telling her this, immediately every following order was improved until check out. They stopped "forgetting" side orders, they gave me more reasonable sized orders instead of 1 slice of a frozen waffle as a breakfast entree. Imagine that, a reasonable complaint that was immediately resolved - I hate to say it but that doesn't often happen for me. If I had to nitpick, the only person I could have had an issue with was one of the pediatricians. A short lady, probably in her mid to late 40s. She seemed knowledgeable but the way she handled our baby is not what I would call gentle. I wouldn't describe any moment she handled him as being gentle. I never said anything because she was never rough enough to visibly upset him or make him cry, but it made me question whether she actually wanted to be there or not. Overall, I was actually really impressed with how dedicated and hospitable everyone was. I can be pretty critical of others and really couldn't find anyone who came off as cold, lacking knowledge or training, or anyone who gave me a weird vibe other than the one lady I mentioned. For the other reviewer who mentioned corruption, don't get your hopes up about the Mayo Clinic being any better. They are renowned for having excellent care and doctors; not for lacking corruption. You WILL find this corruption everywhere you look in the US thanks to our for profit medical community. You can thank the US government for that. It's just a matter of who's better at getting away with it and hiding it. Again this is just my personal experience, maybe things don't work as smoothly in other sections of the hospital, but labor and delivery, and the postpartum area was excellent.

Faith O

This hospital is AMAZING! The ER and all outpatient care has been great. Labor and Delivery was truly a blessing as we welcomed my baby boy to the world. He had some complications during birth and they never left my side- reassuring me, providing honest, gentle care. They were so thorough and safe that he was born perfectly healthy and strong. The anesthesiologist, OB doc, Delivery nurses, cafeteria staff, postpartum nurses, and all the aids were nothing short of spectacular! They constantly checked in on us and tended to my needs before I could even communicate them. I felt that I could trust them with my life and my newborn baby's life with 100 % certainty. We truly loved our stay and cannot say enough. Anyone who has something bad to say must not know what a good hospital staff looks like vs a bad one. My first birth in Minot, ND at Trinity Hospital was traumatic and the care was horrendous. They actually feared they may have caused permanent disability! These folks at Rapid City Regional score a 100 on a scale of one to ten! They restored my hope and belief in good hospital care!

The reception staff are slow and not very friendly at the ER. But it is the ER so my expectations of the staff are low. The nurses and docs are great though.

Echo Laughs

Because zero is not an option. I hate coming here because the staff act racist and don't wanna help or get mad when we ask questions. Just cuz we are people of color doesn't mean we are any different than the light skinned people you are happy to assist. Never been impressed with this hospital, if there was another one I'd be there. Staff are disrespectful when asked for help or asked questions, and they also stand around the nurses station making fun of patients and laughing like what patients are going through is funny. This hospital is the worst I've been to. ZERO stars guys.... ZERO. It's sad enough, when the people in charge tell you, that you should go somewhere else.... While your child is seriously ill. And they wanna act anyway towards you and say rude comments,. But when you question there ignorance, they wanna make it seem like your the one with the attitude. These people are racist and ignorant. But I guess that's how ignorant rapid city SD is, no class.

Chase Cramer

Regional Hospital is the worst major hospital I have ever been to. The sad thing is myself and other citizens have to put up with this place because of where we live there monopolized the health facilities and no other health facilities can really reach out to help here. They control almost everything in the Black Hills area for health facilities, I just wish we could get an avera or a Sanford medical hospital someone who actually cares about their patients. My last stay at Regional Hospital was horrible I went in for a broken leg, after surgery days later because the surgeon or the doctor or the nurse whoever they wrapped my leg to tight! It was cutting off like blood flow and I was just in excruciating pain. I took an ambulance to the ER and they admitted me into my room and it took almost a half hour to 45 minutes just to get someone to come see me and give aid. I also told them I was severely dehydrated and my urine was pure brown because of the narcotics they prescribed me and my long acting insulin I take for my type one diabetes. They just ignored me I asked for an IV Saline bag so I could get rehydrated, I asked for water and they didn’t give me any for probably another hour. They only gave me water not much though, I asked for a Iv saline bag again, And they just kept shrugging it off and shrugging it off. I asked, one more time I said, I am severely dehydrated, Can I please get some assistance with an IV Saline bag so I can rehydrate, I again got no response but all they did was pumped me full of narcotics for my pain they didn’t even attempt to re-hydrate me. They took off my leg wrap they rewrapped it I was on narcotics so my pain was gone but I was still severely dehydrated. I again asked, to have the doctor come in so I could get an IV to rehydrate and they just ignored me soon enough I was on my way out the door they got me a cab, and the male nurse helped me to the cab. When I was getting in the cab I asked the guy to please take it slow my leg still hurts very badly I asked him I would get in and reposition myself so he could hold my leg up and slide it in gently but as soon as I got on my seat he crammed my leg behind the Passenger seat at a 90° angle mind you my leg is broken right below the knee on the fibula that put me in excruciating pain I got mad and I told him why didn’t you wait and he just walked off and slammed the door. I have heard nothing but horrible news about this place and I have lived through the horrible terrors of Regional Hospital. my grandfather went into Regional Hospital in December for a knee replacement mind you he is 85 years of age but he ended up dying because of the lack of care that Regional Hospital provides in their so-called expertise. Regional Hospital is a joke and a nightmare for anybody in the Black Hills area or anybody passing through that needs treatment the nurses for the most part are pretty good but they can’t do everything they need to do for the patients. This is mainly because of the poor administration and management that is going on at Regional Hospital the people that run that hospital are nothing but a money hungry crooks And scammers they’re supposed to be non-for profit and they are one of the most expensive hospitals I’ve seen and I’ve heard of people paying for and they do not provide service that is worth the cost. Most people in Rapid City talk about Regional Hospital being more like a morgue you just go there to die or be in pain. I would rate this hospital a 2/10 They are horrible so if you value your life in a really dire situation think about just being flown to Sioux Falls to a Sanford medical.

Jeff Carr

This review is for the ER only, I can't speak as to the rest of it. It is just for one experience there. We went there to take a friend who was sick. The doctor was a real jerk and he did very little to be helpful. Judgmental and rude. Wish we would have just gone to our smaller nearby town hospital, which we ended up having to do anyway. The doctors and nurses at the clinic and our small town hospital and clinic were very nice and professional and caring. The doctors here also asked which doctor we had in the ER in Rapid. Got the impression they thought he did a lousy job as well.

Patti Lynch

We have been waiting in their new ER for going on two hours. We came and the much smaller waiting area was packed. Thought maybe the bathrooms are secondary waiting room (can get a seat). Just watched someone leave that was here before us...new facilities, larger space but poorer delivery of care. If we had not been told to go to the ER, we would be heading home too. Someone will die because of the wait.

Kate Shirley

My dad died today in the cardiac intensive care unit. His nurses, especially Jess, were very compassionate, answered all my questions, and did their best to make him comfortable and got me whatever I needed. I think there must be no job more difficult than being a nurse, I'm glad my dad had such good ones in his final couple of days. Thank you to the nurses who worked so hard to give him good and compassionate care.

Ted S

Need to deliver a baby? Broke your face climbing M hill? Got hit in the head from flying debris in 40 mph wind? Stop on by, there emergency room is delightful. The staff have enough know-how to help save your life.

Scott Biegert

The nurses were great but the bill where they charged over $9,000 to use there facility for 3 hours kind of ruined everything. I would not recommend this hospital for anything! The actual work was performed by another office so that was just for using the building. I just hope no one else gets taken like i did.

Chris McGinty

I went into emergency with a severe sore throat. I was immediately brought back to a roomand the doctor was in within minutes. I was treated quickly and efficiently with an IV and meds. As soon as the IV was empty, they discharged me. Feeling better we were able to continue our trip back to AZ.

Tiffani Sammeli

The Emergency room staff are absolutely the slowest moving medical personnel ever. The doctor I seen had terrible bedside manner and didnt even act interested in what i was saying. I do not know why it's so hard for people to give good quality care in that hospital. Maybe try watching some New amsterdam and take notes!!

Sarah Bice

I just want to say how thankful I, and my family are for the wonderful staff in the maternity ward and the NICU. The nursing staff was so attentive, and caring, always right there when we needed them. And our doctors were efficient and thoughtful. I felt cared for, and safe bringing our 3ed child into the world. Thank you so much for all your hard and gentle work, it's more than obvious that you all love your jobs and that you are most definitely the right people for them!

Lynn Wetterau

Outstanding staff, caring and compassionate.

Eric Engelken

They over charge on simple scheduled appointments and their payment system does a terrible job of tracking your payments. I've literally had to talk at least 5 times over the phone with someone there to show proof I've paid my hospital bill.

Stephanie Carter

This is the worst place. We took our 9 year old son with severe abdominal pain. He was in so much pain he could not walk. We sat in the waiting room for two hours until we decided to leave and drive 45 minutes to Custer to be seen. This place is a joke. Stay away from Regional Health. I have recently switched all my providers for my family to be outside of the Regional Health umbrella. Run don't walk!

Jordan Cook

We have had all three of our children born here. Every time the staff has been excellent. The delivery rooms are great and my parents and I fit just fine while we were waiting. The recovery rooms are much smaller but I expected that. With our last child we came in at 3am. The staff was all alert and kind even at the late hour. It didn’t take too long to get her epidural done and every step of the way the staff would always be helpful. “Is there anything else I can get for you” is something they said every time they were there. Our daughter had some breathing issues after birth and the staff did an excellent job distracting my wife since she couldn’t come over and they also were doing a great job informing me and making sure I knew what was happening. They resolved the issue and were very informative in their explanations. I can’t say enough good things about the nurses, assistants, doctors, and administrators of this department.

Frank Barney

Injuns never pay their bill so it is pricy

Kelly Harris

Great service

Jacklyn Rymer

This is the last place you'd expect to be in labor and sexual assaulted by a doctor.. but it happened, 3 times. Apparently telling a doctor not to do a pelvic exam ( when laboring a 9.6lbs baby) and screaming at them to stop means nothing when you are a doctor. The doctor completely ruined my birth. One I've been planning for 5 years. The hospital dealing with it was a joke as well. Not even so much as I'm sorry and trust that it was so much more worse than I'm saying publicly. Sexual assault on a laboring woman is NOT OKAY Katherine A. Degen.

Brian Overton

Very fast and friendly! Got to see the doctor very quickly and without any hassle.

Connie Snow

Nothing but passing the buck, zero answers, and run around when trying to get information to file an insurance claim. No communication in house about who people can speak with about patient care/billing. We try very hard to stay away from doctor offices/hospitals...but every time there we need care there is issue about me getting information about my husbands care and billing. And yes, power of attorney has been filed out - multiple times. Regional Health needs to learn to communicate between departments and with the patient/family.

Heather B

Had to go to the ER in the wee hours of the morning - staff was quick to get me back to a room. They were all nice and very attentive! So grateful!

Lu Ann Kellsy

Make sure you have all day to go here. Always behind Wanted us here at 7:30 for procedure at still sitting here. 4hrs now

Myrriha Roush

Husband took me in because I felt an ovarian cyst rupture. After I described my symptoms to the doctor and he pushed down on my stomach. After being in there for two minutes he concluded that my dizziness is really vertigo and the cyst rupture was nothing. This was after waiting in the ER for an hour and a half. If I have another medical emergency, I flat out told my husband to take me to Spearfish or Sturgis. I would rather take my chances than have a concern that serious disregarded.

Aranda Kay

I couldn't have asked for better care! All the nurses and doctors were so helpfull in answering any questions I had and making sure I was as comfortable as I could be. Labor and delivery was very clean as well as postpartum. The food was even wonderful! Defentitly satisfied with mine and my newborn daughters care!

Rhonda Corean

Brought my 94 yr old dad up here again nurses are inattentive saw the dr once no results on test ran hate this place

Melissa Buechler

Worst experience this evening we where their a few hours and Doctor Tibbles talked to us once and was very rude turned out I have an Ovarian Cyst and in alot of pain to rotate tylenol and ibuprofen and see my regular doctor tomorrow so sitting at home in pain the rest of the night till tomorrow afternoon I always thought the Doctor was suppose to talk to us about the prognosis not the nurse

Cami Eslick

We are from Iowa and ended up here on the last night if our vacation when my son had a bad allergic reaction while swimming. Everyone was amazing and super nice. We were dealt with quickly but not in a rushed way. Every room we went into was very clean and comfortable. My son (12) was thrilled with his warm blanket. If you have to go to the ER at 9 on a Friday night this is the place to be!!!

William Brush

Visited the Medical Records Department on July 19, completed a release form (for myself, oddly enough), and was told that my records would be sent to my residential address o/a July 24. July 24 came and went, so I phoned them on July 29, and was informed that I'd receive a return call that day. It too came and went, and as of today, July 31, still no phone call and still no records. Why, why, why?

art christophersen

The emergency room was slow but they where very professional and courteous, and very through. They didnt let us go until they got to the root of the problem. Amazed!

Greg Young

I would like to add that my spouse passed away at this hospital. I was first mad at everyone. Now since a little time has passed I would like to say that the Doctors from the heart Transplant surgeons all the way down to the pulmonary doctors are very knowledgeable and very professional and very considerate towards their patients care. I feel like my spouse never give the doctors a real chance. She had a massive heart attack caused by pulmonary artery disease plus SMOKING, no exercise, and slightly overweight. I loved her more than life itself and not a day goes by that I dont miss her. This is about the hospital and doctors. I would also say that 7 out of 10 RNs were great. I get now what an RN does and that job on 12 hr shifts is a struggle in itself. Even the lower rated ones were stilll doing their job. So all in all I am terribly upset of the outcome...In my opinion they done all they could have to try and save her. Thank you

Amie

We received the worst possible care there is. Ended up at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester for 2 weeks. Just because RCRH couldn't figure out that it was blood pressure medication that was making a family member sick. Wow really? It took mayo to figure that out. Next time we are sick we are going to our Local Vet. Get a better chance there. You might see if they offer classes on how to run a functional hospital.
