Southern Med Pediatrics- South Lake is a great facility, but the people are the reason to keep coming back. My daughter has been going there for almost 3 years now. When I sat down before she was born, to pick a pediatrician, I knew Dr. Ashley Carter was the one of us within seconds! Having since, we have moved about 25 minutes away (with closer options) but we won't change because we love Dr. Carter's thoroughness, kindness, and way with children. Each of her nurses and staff are soft spoken, thorough as well, and genuine people to trust your kids with! We are expecting again & believe me, Dr. Ashley Carter will be their physician too! Can't say enough good things! Love, love, love!

From the day I gave birth to my son and meeting Nurse Practitioner, Jocelyn Snider, I've been extremely comfortable with my son's care. Once he went for his well check and we finally met Dr. Carter. I became completely satisfied! The entire staff at SouthernMed Southlake are very professional, inviting, caring and loving. There is no other facility I'd trust with my son's health care.

My great grandson goes here, Dr Carter is wonderful and the staff is very friendly! Over the course of years I have been to see many pediatricians (this is 3rd generation) only one other stands out! Dr Carter is welcoming, explains everything and sets up appointments with others when the need occures, all of which have been very well received by my grandson, and lets face if the child does not like them then taking a child to see the doctor is a chore! So glad we were refered to your office!!!

Took my 6 year old and 5 month old for the first time today, (switched pediatricians) Dr. Powers answered all my questions, without the "are you stupid" look. Took the time with both kids. The staff here are wonderful, no issues on my part. Or theirs.:)

Randy Wolf

In previous visits things have been alright, but, last visit was rude both in reception and doctor. The missed a diagnosis that now still has to be dealt with.

Sue Jones

I just took my new 6 y/o foster child to Dr Carter. She is severely autistic and was melting down in the office. The nurses were very kind and took her in the back room swiftly to try to settle her down. I had a list of requests for referrals, meds, etc. Dr Carter came in. She was professional and very kind from start to finish. She took care of everything we needed and made a stressful situation calm. I know it’s my first time here, but I am impressed! Dr. Carter will definitely be our pediatrician! She and the rest of the staff are excellent!

Carrie Cain

They are all great from the staff at the front desk to the nurses and doctors!

I really don't even know where to start. Dr. Carter started seeing my boys in May of 2016, and she is just amazing with both of them. One of my boys is special needs and not only does she make sure he is doing ok, but she always makes sure Mama is as well. She truly cares, and never rushes and I know my children are in the best of hands. She will take time to call and check on them, and she truly cares about the family as a whole. Ms. Leah the site manager is just amazing as well, she has truly helped me in everyway she can when it comes to the forms I need for my sons treatments. Devin at the front desk is always so sweet, just very pleasant. The office staff plays a big role in who you want to take your child too. The nurses are also amazing Blair, Teresa they really have big hearts, and I know when my son has to get tests done he doesnt like they will always have stickers waiting for him. This is truly the best office and I would recommend them to everybody. You cannot go wrong with a staff that truly cares.

Airborne Ranger

Staff, nurses and new Drs are all rude. It used to be a great office but not know. They hide behind vague policies and treat you like a number. They have lost our business ... again, I would NOT GO HERE

Kayla Knight

Love love dr powers . He’s amazing !!

I wanted a doctor that was closer to where I live so I came here. Both times I felt judged not by staff but by the doctor (not Carter hint*) was lecturing me about me not visiting a dentist for my children in the past 6 months. I did not have the time or patience to tell this woman that I have had an awful 6 months and recently got a work truck to take care of all my priorities/obligations. The way she talked to me was absurd! Being informative is different than being rude! Work on bedside manner please!

Dr. Boltin is awesome! She is very knowledgeable, thorough exam, listens to your concerns and if you need more of a specialist she gets you where you need to be. It's also nice to get in at the time of your appointment. She gets you done and on your way. The nurses and secretaries are also super people. I am so glad we found this medical center!

Not crowded. Clean. Very nice nurses. Dr. Carter is patient and answered a list of questions that I had. When calling to ask a question, nurse calls back pretty quick too.

If I could rate this place a 0 I would! I have 13 years in health care. I switched my 10 y.o. here after having my 2nd child who is now 13 months. They saw my baby numerous times seeing as she was borderline preemie, had difficulty breastfeeding and had silent reflux. Not ONCE in the year they saw her has she ever had a mark on her. However she had an allergic reaction to an insect bite on her head that swelled. She also had a little bruise on her cheek from running into my mothers knee while playing. Since it was a "sick" visit I was fine with her seeing a new Dr. just once. This Dr. was fresh out of med school. After waiting over an hour in the tiny room he came in and immediately started questioning my oldest child and I. He never treated my baby as an insect bite but instead jumped to a conclusion. I insisted her pediatrician come in and she said well he doesn't know y'all like I do... However, she did NOT stand up for her patient. I was subjected by force to full body xrays of my 1 year old (20+ xrays while your child is SCREAMING to the point they can't breathe and people are forcefully holding her down). The xray techs refused to do it (because they felt it was unwarranted radiation) until the Radiologist came out. All xrays of course came back normal. After I reported this physician to the owner AND the medical board he waited 3 days after the results AND after her ped said everything was fine to report us to DSS. (If he felt she was in danger why wait so long to make a report) The owner NEVER reached out to us and acted like it was no big deal. DSS had to interview neighbors my child my whole family and took naked pictures of my precious baby!!! He reported false accusations of things that simply were not there. Thank God I had time/date stamped pictures. He had both of my kids medical records right in front of him but yet reported wrong ages, wrong child care info AND wrong occupational information all which was IN their chart. My 10 year old cried repeatedly because she felt it was her fault and she was forced to talk to stranger and scared of being taken away. After being held down against her will my infant would no longer sleep without having a death grip onto me. (No big deal right) For 45 days we lived not knowing what to expect at any time... That is the length of an investigation. Of course it came back unfounded and that he reported false information. However, the damage is done. 100% these doctors have a responsibility to these innocent children who can not talk however they have that VERY same responsibility to report ACCURATE information. I tank God I had the knowledge to take photos and to give motrin and benadryl considering they never treated her reaction either. This was complete hell for my family. I would NOT wish this on anyone. PLEASE DO NOT TRUST THEM TO CARE FOR YOUR PRECIOUS BABIES!!

I moved to this area and got pregnant shortly after. I didn’t pick the doctor so the hospital did and I love them. We love Dr. Carter and all of the other staff! They always answer all of my overprotective mom questions and are always willing to help! Dr. Carter has always treated our boys like family- holding them, consoling them, and talking to them!

Took my daughter she was running a 101 to 104 fever. The nurse practitioner stated everybody was coming in with the same issues so it must be a virus. Oh and they did strep test it was negative. So they just told me to give tylenol it's probably allergy related also. Decided to take her to the er the next day come to find out she had the flu. She was running a 103.2 fever then and the dr told me he's glad my motherly instinct told me to bring her because it could have turned into something very scary. Will be looking for another pediatrian or either switching Dr.

Reina Buenrrostro

I have four boys and they like Dr. Carter she is very good with children. The whole office staff is very friendly.

Laura

If you want to be a number not a patient come here. I absolutely adore the doctor but will not be bringing my children here again. The staff refused to make a sick visit for my daughter until I paid on her enormous balance of $40. They told me on the phone the did not care if my child continued to get sick only that they got their money. When I asked about their policy on financial situations should not affect the treatment of a child I was brushed off and ignored. I was told I should have taken care of it since they sent me 17 Bill's on the $40 which is impossible. The front desk staff is extremely rude. And notice that the response from the owner NEVER mentioned why they would ignore a sick child and tell me they didn't care if she continued to get sick. It is typical for thenm them to ignore the issue. Nor mention why the staff at the front is so incredibly rude.

Chelsie Strangman

I absolutely love Dr. Carter. I have seen a few other doctors at the other location and they were great as well. I HATE that I have called a few times with questions for the doctor and NEVER get a call back. My son has thrush and the 2 week antifungal didn't work. I called the nurse and spoke with her as soon as they opened and she had to leave a message with the doctor that diagnosed him with thrush. No one ever called me back. That's very upsetting when my son is uncomfortable and no one cares enough to call me back. Nurse Blair is the only nurse that has returned a few calls from me in the past and I appreciate her, but I find it very disrespectful when I call with something important and no one returns my call. I have never had this happen at an office before, we are new to this area.

Courtney Boulware

Dr. Carter and her staff are truly the most amazing and caring pediatric team I could want for my children!

I'm guessing their "good" reviews are created by family and friends of the staff/owners. The place is clean, and there are young fresh faces who are sugary sweet upon your arrival. They are probably okay if your child is there just for a wellness check or a common cold - but don't you DARE bring your child here if the child has mental health issues. They made a bad problem even more difficult. I swapped to this pediatricians office because 1. It is down the street from my house, and my other pediatricians office is in downtown Columbia, closer to where I used to live. 2. My son had been seeing a mental health specialist (referred to by my other pediatrician) who told me my son has ADHD, anxiety, depression, and is located somewhere on the spectrum. HOWEVER, the mental health specialist said he would be committing malpractice to diagnose and treat the child for these without FIRST having him see a neurological specialist to eliminate physiological issues. My old pediatrician and this mental health specialist went round and round for two months over who was the responsible party to write the referral to a neurologist. I GAVE up! I presented this to the NP Jocelyn, and I gave her the overview of all of my child's symptons: which included self harm (from a six year old) - and she promptly told me that she didn't think the child needed to see a neurologist or a mental health specialist but a behaviorist because it didn't "sound like a mental health issue". I was clear I would take whatever steps she wanted, but I wanted a referral to a mental health specialist and a neurologist as well, since I already had someone who specializes in that field make it very apparent that it is NOT a behavioral issue. She acted as though she understood and said she would write the referrals. A few days later, I contacted the nurses station to find out if the referral had been written. She had ONLY written a referral to a behavioralist. By now, I'm pee'd off. So I explain to the nurse everything....AGAIN. To which she over talked me, cut me short AND HUNG UP ON ME. I wasn't even cursing or getting loud at this point. So I call back, and I talk to the office manager about the nurses behavior and how I felt very disrespected because not only did one not take my child's mental health seriously, but then another one hung up on me. And wouldn't you know it, the rock for brains in the office was a smarty and repeated, "I'm having trouble understanding why you felt disrespected"? 1. Got hung up on. 2. Had the NP treat my child's dangerous mental health issue as a simple behavioral dilemma and I didn't get the proper referrals I needed. None of my issues were resolved by the time I got finished playing phone tag. Need some people in here with better manners and experience. Don't let those sweet, pretty faces fool you. I xfered pediatrians...AGAIN. Thanks for nothing.

Every single time I take my daughter here they take less than 45 minutes from check in to check out. They are so helpful in explaining things to me without making me feel dumb for asking, and they are always kind. You and your child are greeted with smiles every single time. I love it and my daughter LOVES to go to the doctor now. Dr. Boltin is amazing and so easy to talk to. Best experience with a doctor I’ve ever had.
