I love Southern Eye Associates! My first visit was within the last couple months, and I plan to go again soon. Not only does the office have an inviting atmosphere and the equipment advanced, but the people are great! I remember the eye technician going above and beyond to make sure she recorded accurate information, double checking when the data didn't seem "just right." The eye doctor was thorough and knowledgeable as well. Overall, I'd give this practice an A+!

I was helped by Dr. Craig O'Dell for some new contacts, and he was super nice, a real pleasure to meet. He fine-tuned my contact selection and prescription, to help me see my computer screens better. He even explained multi-focal lenses to me, and I actually understood it ;-) I feel like I have new eyes today, everything is much clearer on my computer screens that I spend so much time on. Excellent experience. Saw Dr. Odell for the first time yesterday. He was wonderful and so was the staff. I also got my eyes dilated. I know what to expect when I get them dilated though and you just have to use the glasses they offer and tough it out a few hours. I will Go back next year.

My Doctor was beyond helpful with tips to help combat eye fatigue after long hours of work on computer screens. Welll to start off with, before i even went to my appointment I had called and asked and made sure that my insurance was aceppted there, and the lady told me yes it would be fully covered. About a week after my visit, i get a bill in the mail for $150, so i call back and ask the lady one the phone why my insurance didnt cover it and she said, "i dont know, now are you gonna pay your bill to us or not?" She was just extremely rude! My appointment was at 10:30, they took my back at 10:45ish, and the nurse used the eye machine to ask me to read a series of letters in a line while she changed the magnitude of the lenses that was looking through in the machine, and she kept switching and asking me to read the lines, and saying "is that better" or "can you see" so quickly that i literally couldnt even finish what i was saying before she wold switch the lens or ask me another question or to read the line again. Then once she was finished and had determined what my vision was in all of 5 seconds....I waited in my room for an hour and 15 mins before the doctor came in, and in 5 mins he told me tht i was good to go. I felt extremely rushed and treated like i was inferior to both the staff and the doctor, when it's MY money that they are using to pay THEIR bills! Needless to say, i will NOT be going back or recommending anyone else there. Thanks.

Reading some of the reviews, I suspect one HUGE reason for the delays and long waits is because they are SO POPULAR! It took me 8 weeks to get an appointment. I feel that that do a great job with everything, but the sheer VOLUME of their practice can certainly be a little bit of an issue. That having been said: I LOVE Dr. Heitman. I can say that if he is your Dr., you will not be dissapointed. He is everything you want in a doctor...he listens, he hears, he will compromise based on your opinions and knowledge and he genuinely wants your input. He truly WANTS what you want and will not be satisfied until you are. I can only speak to this, and not the entire practice. But I will tell you, it is worth my time to wait, however long it takes, to see Dr. Kurt Heitman. He's the gold standard, in my view...pun intended.

Got a bill for contact evaluation 7 months later after still not being reached to get my trial contacts. When I return their call there is no answer, no voice mail , hung up on, or the answering service which cant help. I will pay my bill and never go here again. I get much better customer service at any other place i have been.

After debating on having a Doctor look at my eye because I got shot in the eye with a nerf product thanks to an adventurous 5 year old, I caved and had one of the Doctors look at it (I mean , most moms can tough anything out right?). I'm glad I did...it turns out I actually got really hurt. Every step of the way during my experience people were kind, caring and concerned. The check in staff were very empathetic to my situation (they shared they have small children too), the physician I saw (Dr. Bostrom) made sure he answered every question I had (and followed up with me too), and overall it was a real pleasure. I also noticed some awesome frames in the lobby and I'm definitely going to go back and check them out (this time with 2 good eyes lol). I would absolutely recommend Southern Eye Associates. : )

They lost my insurance info between my first and second appointments, resulting in an embarrassing situation where I had to tell the receptionist that I just can’t afford to pay everything up front. This was all because I had to go back for a second contact fitting— after already having ordered my contacts online— because they didn’t do everything they needed to do the first time. My insurance only covers one visit per year and I was extremely inconvenienced by their inability to find the paperwork once I had already taken off work for the second appointment. Now I can’t order my contacts online because the system doesn’t have my email on file—even though that email is where I received my username.

Southern Eye Associates is a very nice office. It is clear that everyone in the building cares about helping others and the environment is very calm and inviting. I love that all the equipment in the office is state of the art. The electronic charts system is great and makes for easy communication all around and I feel comfortable in knowing that no matter which doctor I see in the future they will all be on the same page. Not only is the office great, it's nice to know there are doctors that are doing good for the community as well as seeing patients in a nice and comforting environment.

Dr. Reardon just did my second cataract surgery since December, 2017. He and his staff was very friendly, courteous, and compassionate to someone who does not like having the eyes messed with, even putting in drops. He is very caring and has a "great" bedside manor. I would recommend the doctors at Southern Eye Associates in Greenville, SC and especially, Dr. Reardon for surgery.

Dr. Heitman was very attentive, on time, and explained the procedures he was performing at every juncture. I highly recommend him. Excellent examination. My difficulty was in scheduling. His scheduling person is Stephanie, and I called 8 times, leaving one message, throughout the day before I talked with her. Why is she always away from her desk, as the recording states? As efficiently as the office is run, I feel certain this will be corrected.

So I normally do not give reviews but felt I should on this one. I took my 89 year old aunt. We were early/on time and was taken back. They started checking her eyes with and without her glasses. Then checked for eye pressure and when they put the drops in, it affected her eyes severly. They sent us to another room to check the vision and it was way off. She kept missing the letters and she normally sees better than that without issues. They sent us back to the 1st room and plz note she is on a walker and cant move well. They could not figure out the problem. The girls started getting ill and was rude as could be. I am glad my aunt could not hear them. I was getting PO'd. I was finally told what the problem was and the girl said" obviously it hasn't been resolved, we are gonna let the doctor deal with it." The doctor attempted to be rude but finally warmed up to us. My aunt has a follow up visit and after that we will be going to another group. They are jackasses. I love my aunt and anyone that has lived as long as she has deserves more respect than that.

I was Dr Heitman's very first patient he ever had when he first joined Southern Eye Associates as a physician. Dr Heitman is a wonderful who cares about all of his patients and takes his time answering your questions and explains things to you and never rushes his patients. Dr Heitman done my eye surgery years ago and prayed before he performed my eye surgery. He's a really good Christian and prays for me during my visits. We need more great Drs like Dr Heitman.

Went for eye exam. Whoever made the appointments over the phone failed to mention there was an office in Greer right next to where I live. After a short 45 minute wait, I was dilated and left in a super bight hallway for half an hour. Doctor spent five minutes in a room with me, told me nothing was wrong then told me I could go. On my way out, with about 10% of my vision, I stumbled to what I thought was the cashiers desk. The cashier had no idea who I was, despite me showing her my drivers license and insurance card. She told me there was no charge, then (despite my explanation that I couldn't see a thing) was told to get in my car and drive myself home by multiple members of the staff. The drive home was absolutely terrifying. I could see what was right in front of me, and that about it. Couldn't see how fast I was going, or if someone was next to me, or way ahead of me. Three weeks later, I received a letter from a debt collection agency saying I owed $30.00. 0/10, would not suggest.

The optical department and staff are very friendly and professional. The speed and communication though is extremely poor. I will not order glasses from them again. I've had two bad experiences. I do not see the doctor at this location. The doctor at the Greer office, as well as his staff have been wonderful, but there again... no more optical services from me.

I had a bad reaction to the glaucoma prescription that Dr. Stokes prescribed. I had to stop using it and requested a follow up appointment with the doctor. I was told he was too booked up to see me and someone would call me back. No one called back. I asked for an appointment with Dr. Williams and was turned down. It is very challenging to get help from this office. The arrogance I've experienced in prior visits should have been a red flag.

Made appt and asked if covered by my insurance-"yes", waited 3 months for appt, got off work for appt-then found out the doctor I had appt with was NOT covered by my insurance-had to reschedule and wait even longer. Receptionist making return eye appt rude. Rushed when picking out glasses, then too big; Glasses wrong size-very little done to reorder so are stuck with glasses that don't fit. Not enough staff in optical shop, long wait. WILL NOT BE BACK!!

The staff is friendly, but I feel more like a number rather than a person. It is very uncomfortable having to wait in the front public waiting area without my contacts ( I can barely see shapes and colors without them) right after having the numbing and dilating drops put in my eyes. It was about a 40 minute wait. I also wasn't given any protection for my eyes after having my eyes dilated when I left the office. I will not be returning. There are much more personal and comfortable optometrist offices.

I will forever be indebted to Southern Eye Associates. When my daughter developed uveitis 2 years ago, I immediately called an optometrist friend of our family. After he examined her, he immediately called S E A to have her treated by one of the opthlamologists. Within an hour of the phone call, we were greeted by one of doctors waiting for our arrival. Dr. Williams has tenaciously followed my daughter's progress and continues to monitor her for recurrances. Every staff member has treated cordially and professionally. May God bless S E A!

Do not make an appointment here! I drove from Columbia because I had such great care several years ago, but their doctors and level of service have changed dramatically. I felt like a "number" being pushed around, then charged an outrageous amount, and I STILL DONT HAVE MY TRIALS! It's been over a month and I have had to call them. They won't even call me back. I HAD THE SAME EXPERIENCE AS CARY NEIL, Another reviewer. Was dialated and sent out the door I shouldn't have even been driving.

I was referred to Southern Eye in Dec 2012 by my family doctor to have my eyes checked for possible damage upon being diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. Dr. Steigerwald gave me a prescription for glasses and I asked if it was too soon to get new glasses. I'd been told by another eye doctor and my family doctor that I should wait about 8 weeks to give my blood sugar a chance to normalize and eyesight to go back to normal. I was around the 4 week mark and Dr. Steigerwald said it was okay. So I purchased some new glasses online for about $73 dollars. By the time the glasses arrived 2-3 weeks later they were useless. A complete waste of money.

So I've not one too keen on reviews but their office was exemplary. I write this review for two reasons. One for the staff which were friendly, efficient, and helpful. Two was for Dr. O'Dell who was respectful, observant, and efficient. He wants you to understand what is going on with your body has gone out of his way to address my problems. The wait is a bit long but with the efficiency I've been shown, I'll chalk it up to their large volumes of patients.

I have been seeing Dr. Steigerwald for a few years and have been receiving extraordinary care! He recently recommended scleral lenses for me and I received them today after having a custom pair made for my eyes! I have never seen this amazing my entire life! My vision today was 20/15 I have never seen better than about 20/40 out of one of my eyes with contacts. I was very pleased at my appointment last year with my doctor. I scheduled an appointment for the following year. I was called one month in advance and told my appointment would have to be moved. They were unwilling to accommodate my work schedule(which is the reason I scheduled so far in advance) even though they were the reason for the change. I was not pleased with the way I was treated on the phone. I immediately called another practice & was able to schedule an appointment sooner & at a better time. Very unhappy with their customer service.

I would still recommend the office, just steer clear of that doctor.

DO NOT SCHEDULE with this group!! Poor customer service - especially to new patients. I called on Jan 29th 2013 specifically requesting an appointment for Feb 26, 2013 - due to taking off work for other appointments as well. I wanted an appointment in the GREER office but was informed that on Feb 26 the only DR. in the group that participates with my insurance EYE MED was in the Greenville office - I agreed to drive the extra 45 minutes to that office. I received paperwork in the mail to fill out and bring to my appointment - on the very top of the page was clearly written FEB 26, 2013 - 3:45. I arrived at the appointment ONLY to be told that my appointment was for same day & time BUT in 2014 and that they could not see me. ( the doctor was not even there). I explained that I could not take another day off work to reschedule this appointment.and that it had been a long drive. They were not accommodating in any way.BUT to make matters worse - it was stated by another receptionist that this same thing had happened earlier in the day but they were able to work that person in. OOPS not what I wanted to hear when I am being told I CAN'T be seen. The Billing Manager was sent out to DEAL with me - Where was the Office Manager ???? I was handed a $25 gift card to compensate me for my gas ( this was a 90 minute drive). I was actually offended with that gesture - and then was offered an appointment another day - (what part of can't take another day off did she not get. I will find another eye doctor BUT NOT HERE!!!! Wish I could give a rating lower than POOR.

Southern eye is an amazing facility!! My husband and I have both had lasiks done and have been extremely happy with the results. The faculty and doctors are amazing, so sweet and caring. When our boys become of age, they too will have lasiks. Love this place!

I have just recently completed my second Cataract surgery with Dr. Hack. Everything went amazingly well and just as Dr. Hack had detailed before I agreed to his proposed course of treatment. In my opinion, Dr. Hack is a rare find. Clearly he is very talented and knowledgeable in his chosen field, but in addition he is very friendly, caring and has a fantastic bed side manner that puts you completely at ease. I'm thrilled with the results of my two surgeries and can see much better without glasses or contacts than I have in 40 years! Just like most people, I was very nervous about having eye surgery. Everyone at Southern Eye that was part of Dr. Hack's team was friendly, professional and understanding. On the day of surgery at Upstate, I was made to feel very comfortable and enjoyed the fact that everyone had a sense of humor. It put me at ease. Dr. Hack was incredible and I can honestly say, there was no pain or discomfort what so ever through the entire process. I can't think of words to recommend Dr. Hack high enough. I guess the fact that I was totally comfortable having my second eye done within two weeks of the first says it all! If you are suffering with Cataracts and pondering surgery , stop putting it off and contact Dr. Hack. You won't be disappointed!

From the moment I walked in, I was treated very well, from the beginning with the receptionist to checking out. The care I received and the tests conducted were just what I needed. I learned more about my eyes that day than I had ever known. Not at any time did I feel as though I was wasting their time. All my questions and concerns were answered. Great staff and Dr. William Steigerwald is fantastic. Dr. Steigerwald was excellent and very patient with my quirky eye issues. He recommended Scleral contact lenses for keratoconus. I'd used hard lenses before and really didn't like them, but he assured me that these were very different. It took a few tries to get the prescription right, but I couldn't be happier! They fit perfect, my vision is great and they are super comfortable. Best of all, with my eye insurance, I only had to pay taxes. My entire experience with Southern Eye Associates was awesome. I appreciate SEA more than I can put into words, but ppl deserve to know how kind-hearted and helpful this group is. I walk in without an appointment, needing to see one of their doctors. The appointment/receptionist desk helped me with a SMILE. No frown or flat facial affect, but actually made effort to help me....willingly. (Normally a monotone voice and zero eye contact is given.) I knew right then, this was going to be a relief for me. I was nervous and worried, but by the time I saw Dr. Norris, the unknown was diagnosed and a plan of care put into action.

Had an annual visit with Dr. O'Dell, followed by a very helpful visit to select my frames. Lindsey L explained what my insurance covered, showed me which frames fit into that category, helped me pick ones that framed my face the best, and talked me through testing them when the glasses arrive. She was friendly, patient, and knowledgeable - I was impressed and can only hope all my future experiences are this great. Thank you!
