Took my daughter here for her 24-48 hour check up. Made the appointment to have my daughter's bilirubin, hearing, metabolic tests done. The doctor was flabbergasted that the Birthing Center i delivered at did not run these tests. (The tests have to be performed 24 hours after birth, and we were dismissed from the Birthing Center a few hours after my daughter birth). Because I was not local to Charleton, I did not have the 24 hour check up there, hense why I scheduled it at Sea island pediatrics. The doctor then said that I was luckily nothing happened to my daughter (in the day and a half window). She then said my daughter lost too much weight (8% loss from birth weight) and gave me formula to give her. I'm sorry, but what pediatrician would not reccommend breast milk to supplement with. She then proceeded to tell me how abnormal "this whole thing was" and that it was her last day on the job. She then went out into the hall to talk to another pediatrician (the walls are super thin there, and I heard every word she said). She said how this was "ridiculous" and how she had to reffer my baby to Beaufort Memorial for the testing and how she was considering reporting this. Then to make matters worse, I went over for the bilirubin test at Beaufort Memorial. This was on a Friday. She then said because my daughter's jaundice levels were elevated (she was at an 11, and 14 is where you need the light therapy) that I needed to go back on Saturday to the ER and have the test again! I asked if I could do it Monday so that my daughter wouldn't be exposed to all the sick people in the ER! Nope, she said it was important that I go for a weight check and the bilirubin test again. So I went on Saturday. Waited for an hour and a half, after they said it would be 45 min. The front desk said they would call me with the results. No one EVER called me! So I exposed my newborn daughter to all that and no one even called me. I imagine she passed because her skin tone lost the yellow tint in a couple of days. I couldn't believe how unprofessional the pediatrician was, just absolutely rude. I would think someone would have more common sense then to tell a client it was their last day, and then say something could have happened to my daughter, and that my situation was "ridiculous/absurd".
