My son is 10 months and I am in the process of switching pediatrician offices after we've been dealt one thing after another with the James Island Coastal Pediatrics location. At my son's first appointment, when he was three days old, Dr. Shawinsky was the first physician to see our son. She informed us that everyone in her family was currently sick, as she coughed into her shirt but continued to administer care to our newborn. We didn't feel very confident. Two days later when we returned to see Dr. Giles, who was the doctor we had selected for our son's pediatric care, we waited 90 minutes to be seen. When we brought this to the attention of one of the PA's, she told us "it wasn't their fault". Personally we truly liked the care we received from Dr. Geils, but it has been extremely difficult to get on her calendar. At the time of his six month appointment her calendar wasn't yet available to schedule his nine month appointment so I called back in about six weeks and she was booked up for the next three months. His 9 month appointment ended up being scheduled when he was 10 months - not a huge deal except for after waiting for months for the appointment it was then cancelled the day of... and then his makeup appointment the following week was cancelled day of as well (although this time I received no advanced call and found this out when I reported to the office with my son). Clearly the office has some kinks to work out, to say the least.

Dr. Lee is our pediatrician. Sometimes, when your child is sick, though, we end up seeing the other doctors. Regardless of who we see at Coastal Pediatrics, we have a great experience! All of the pediatricians, nurses, and staff are friendly and helpful.

I love this place. I recommend it to everyone. I wanted one sole pediatrician for my child but always have a different dr or nurse but either way they are ALL friendly nice n knowledgeable!!! Any dr or nurse you get are great!! Yo les recomiendo estos pediatras. Son muy buenos y saben mucho de los ninos. Aunque siempre no agaro el mismo dr. Todos que nos han tocado son muy buenos. Absolutely horrible experience. I am in the medical field and have never seen such incompetence and ignorance. I was treated very unprofessionally and my granddaughter still did not get her medication. I plan on writing a letter to the medical board. We are looking for a new pediatrician.

I brought my daughter in Monday 09/09/19 after seeing her highly aggravated, coughing, & she had a runny nose. She saw Dr. Moe who is a very friendly doctor, however I was very displeased with his overall service. Dr. Moe came into the room and listened to my daughter chest confirming her lungs were clear. I asked him to perform a full examination, meaning checking her throat and ears but he advise it wasn't necessary & that she just a cold that will soon pass. Well, September 11 two days later my daughter started refusing her food, sleeping more, and still very aggravated. I had to return to the doctor, instead I traveled to the James Island branch where she saw Mrs. Rogers. After completing a full examination she determine my daughter had a terrible ear infection in both of her ears & also some other possible things going on where she refer me to the appropriate facility to do some further investigation. My daughter is now taking antibiotics to help with her ear infections but if Dr. Moe had took the time to fully exam her as requested he would had discover earlier about her infections. I understand it was late, and he was probably tired but this is the profession you choose & you should always go above to make sure you are giving kids the care they deserve. I appreciate Mrs. Rogers, although it was obvious she was tired from a long day ,she didn't ignore or disregard my feelings & concerns. She was engaged, friendly, & very very professional. Doctors like her and Dr.Yousef are like breathe of fresh air because it's clear they love the profession they choose and are terrific with kids but I am considering switching my child to another pediatrician because this week was not only unnecessary but completely avoidable. Not to mention I left messages for a nurse to call me back and NEVER received a call back.

This used to be the best pediatric office but they have gone down hill the last 5 years or so. Everytime I go in I have to fill out a boo of paperwork for each of my for children knowing I've already done them. They don't use the patient portal properly, and they don't care about wasting your time. I don't feel the love for their jobs anymore. My kids will be getting new pediatricians. Even though we love Dr Clifford but we can never get a reasonable appointment with him anyway. Sorry to leave but after 10 years you should get better not worst. I waited 10 years for a north charleston location and I won't get the benefits. I think they're just sad over there now.

We primarily see Dr. Clifford and Beth Thelan but have seen many other physicians throughout the years. With one of our children having some serious difficulties, having a practice of caring people made all the difference. No matter who we see, I know we will have a great experience and our children will be well taken care of.

We were referred to CPA eight years ago when we first moved to Charleston and it was the best referral we have ever received. The entire staff at CPA is friendly, kind and knowledgeable. All my children loving going their doctor because they know they will be taken care of. Absolutely the best pediatric office in the area !

My grand children had appointments at 1:15 today, we weren't seen till 2:30. The new staff is rude and unhelpful. The doctor continued to tell us to take my 4 year old grandson to the er for an on going headache he has been having.She says they could helpore than she could. She told us to take my granddaughter for blood work but never said when or where. She did however let us know she is leaving in a week or so more than a couple of times. We are on the search for a new pediatrician. I took my now 27 year old there when she was a child, staff was more concerned about children then than they are now. Service has declined dramatically over the last few years. Seems like it's all about the $$$$ not the kids.

This office is horrible! I do NOT recommend them at all. They have such a high turn over rate and you never get to know anyone before they end up quitting. They have missed so many health concerns with my daughter. We have been hospilazed because of them missing things with her. TWICE they have missed pneumonia and that is really scary! Since they have expanded their offices, the service has been horrible. I was on hold 25 mins, just to get a receptionist with a attitude, who talked over me while I was trying to make a appointment. We have been going here for over 8 yrs and I couldn't be happier. The doctors & nurses are hands down the best. I wouldn't suggest another pediatric office. When you have a staff that really cares and share with you and treats you like family you know you are in the right place. They have always gone above and beyond for my kids. We have had some curve balls thrown at us with 2 of our kids and the doctors there stepped up doing research and checking up on us when we needed to be referred to specialists. They go out of their way in everyway. We love Coastal!!

Grateful that they have early hours, never had a long wait, the new office is beautiful, clean and bright and we've never had a bad experience. Very convenient local pharmacy nearby makes it super easy to get scrips filled without having to get LOs into and out of carseats multiple times

Before yesterday I would have given Coastal 4 or 5 stars, but after our horrible experience yesterday afternoon I am leaning towards switching all together. My husband brought our 15 month old daughter in around 4:15 and while checking in she threw up all over the reception desk and him. Did they care? Not even a little bit. All they did was tell him to go wait in the sick kids waiting room and she would be seen when they could get to her because we didn't have an appointment. I showed up to the office around 6:15 after leaving work and she still had not been seen. We were not called back until almost 6:45. Because apparently we had an appointment for 7, which we were never told in the entire almost 2.5 hours of waiting. I understand there a polices that they have to follow, but I find it absurd that a 15 month old who threw up all over the check-in doesn't get priority over a healthy child. The least they could have done was put us in a room where she could at least be comfortable, but not that was too much to ask. My step-son has been with Dr. Clifford for almost 17 years now, but after this experience I doubt we will be back!

Staff is horrible, and lazy! They were braiding their hair and talking trash while my daughter and I waited 45 minutes in the front office. They printed off 4 wrong prescriptions for my eight year old. Honestly, they all need to work on communication. The doctors were good, not great ,but the ship will sink if there crew continues treat patients and parents like they are currently doing!

Tried to schedule appointments for my children because we just moved here from Georgia and my daughter was born with a diaphragmatic hernia and they wouldn't see her because she doesn't get shots!!! She doesn't get them because of religious observance and I have a state recognized exemption form!!! This is religious discrimination!!!!!

Have been with Coastal Pediatrics since 2009 in their James Island Location and have moved to their West Ashley location. I am definitely switching altogether. Aside from small things like waiting an hour after scheduled appointments, and never receiving calls back. Sending my child home with no medicine or tests done when she’s been running high fevers and projectile vomiting.. is very incompetent of their staff. If my child is not showing symptoms while there, you should care enough to check for ear infections, flu, strep, etc. Saving me from my daughter vomiting in the middle of Sams right after the appointment, running to the E.R. At 1:18am., and sleepless nights of the same symptoms is something I expected them to care about. This place just wants patients in and out as quick as possible.

The doctors and nurses are great. The administration is not. The SC Dept of Vital Records told me that I needed documentation from our son's doctor so that we could correct an error on his birth certificate. Not only did the letter provided by Coastal Pediatrics NOT meet the requirements of the Dept of Vital Records, I was told that Coastal Pediatrics was the ONLY practice in Charleston that refused to provide proper documentation. Indeed, the lady at Vital Records told me that another parent was likely to have to go to COURT to have her child's birth certificate corrected, solely because Coastal Pediatrics chooses not to cooperate with their requests. I am disgusted and appalled by this uncaring and inconsiderate customer service!

My son was with the Coastal family for over 8 years not only were they great but the relationships that were built were excellent from the staff at the front desk to the girls who did insurance. All of the doctors were thoughtful and understanding I defiantly the office when we introduced a service dog into our homes they welcome our little lady as if she was part of the family.

My appointment was @ 2:15. It’s now 2:45 and we are still waiting. I understand my daughters symptoms aren’t “urgent” but this is ridiculous. And when I walked in...there were probably eight or nine women sitting behind the desk doing nothing. It’s ridiculous. I called earlier and was on hold for 30 mins. Requested a callback from a nurse, it never happened. After today, I’m out of here. We won’t be back.

I had an appointment today at 8:15 this morning for my daughter's 12 month well check. They always ask that you are there 15 minutes early so I did. I found out that my doctor was on vacation so they rescheduled my appointment with a nurse practitioner without my knowledge. I sat in the waiting room for 45 minutes without being seen. The front desk staff has absolutely no sense of urgency, they sit around and look at their phones and talk to each other when I'm standing there in front of them. I tried to reschedule my appointment as my daughter was getting very antsy while she scrolled through her computer without a care. I have no idea how by 8:15 in the morning it's possible to be running 45+ minutes behind. I will be finding another pediatricians office who is actually interested in my business.

Let me say that most of these physicians and nurses are great. However we feel we are nickle and dimed for every little thing. If we bring our child to the doctor for one thing and then have to bring them back in the same week we are charged again. Even though the doctor clearly stated that they would put antibiotics in our file. When speaking with the administrative staff they don't care what you need or when you need it. The only reason I am still with this practice is because of the hours. AS SOON AS I CAN I WILL BE SWITCHING.

Physicians are great but lately you can not get ahold of front staff. It goes to an automated message. Been on hold for over 10 minutes and never received call back. This is not the first time. I recommend having someone actually answering the phone if you don't want to lose all your patients.

I hate this place.. came in (after calling 5 times with no answer) with my sick daughter a little after 9 o’clock for them to tell me that they don’t do walk ins and that she won’t be seen until 2:30 in the afternoon. I immediately walked out and said I was going to St. Francis. I got there and got excellent service from the staff for my daughter.. I will never bring my kids back to these racist people ever again I hate em all

I'm sad to say that we will not be returning to Coastal Pediatrics. For the second time, we have had a nightmare situation trying to get any accurate information about getting vital prescriptions filled. It's been an 8-hour goose chase including misinformation, no one calling back in the extremely lenient SIX HOUR nurse call-back window, and one person actually saying "I don't know what this [medication] is or how to pronounce it." We've generally liked our providers, once we actually see them, which is usually about an hour after our scheduled appointment. It is a real shame. We will miss the providers. But the communication failures and poor organization are unacceptable when dealing with children's health.

We have been bringing our daughter here for about 4 months now and after multiple bad experiences are searching for another pediatrician. Dr. Domm has been great - aside from being obviously hurried and frazzled every time we visit- but everything else about this place is horrible. Their old West Ashley facility had a decent waiting area with interesting pictures and toys but since they’ve moved it’s just a room with a kid-sized table and a tv. The result is bored children running all over the place every time we visit now. On the one occasion I’ve called the after-hours nurses, initially I never got a call back then after a second phone call a woman called back and asked how she could help me. The fact that you have to explain to the person answering the phone initially why you are calling in detail and they say they’ll have a nurse contact you would make me think the nurse knows what your issue is. The nurse then asked multiple questions about my child that should be on record and when I asked why she didn’t know these things already she LAUGHED AT ME and said “hahaha you know, HIPA” as if that explained anything at all and then started asking more questions without waiting for the answers to the ones she had already asked. I received a letter in the mail stating an appointment would have to be rescheduled and explained attempts to contact me had failed. When I called I was informed that the staff tried to call me ONCE... I never got that call so maybe someone dialed the wrong number. This is a perfectly normal mistake but the fact that they tried once and then gave up and just mailed a letter really shows how indifferent the office staff is. Upon arriving today we waited for over an hour after our appointment for a frazzled doctor to come in and apologize that she was overbooked today and explain that the whole reason for our visit - a flu booster shot- wasn’t happening because it hadn’t yet been the appropriate amount of time since the last shot and their scheduler missed that when setting the appointment. Our 7 month old completely skipped a nap and had lunch late - makings for a very cranky baby but hey, why should they care? - for “a quick weight check and the flu booster” that never even happened and now we have to go back tomorrow.

Used to be great but we will not be returning. Our son is 2 and has been going to coastal since he was a newborn. You used to be able to get same day sick visits and they would make an effort to squeeze you in regardless. However, the last few times we’ve called we have had terrible experiences. First off, there is now an automated message with a long options list and it takes forever to get through to an actual person, you end up having to enter your number for a call back which you’ll get roughly 20-30 minutes later. This most recent experience has sealed the decision to never return- my son has had a fever above 100 for the past three days, today he spiked a 103.1 rectal temp and when I tried to call in for an appointment I had to wait 20 minutes for a call back just to be told that there was not a single appointment available at any of the 5 locations. This is completely absurd. I do not recommend Coastal Pediatrics anymore.

The caring and knowledge that is shown by this group is amazing! I always recommend CPA to anyone looking to change doctors or if they are becoming a new parent!
