I continue to have to worst experience with the JI office. It's been the same problem for the past 2 years. Coastal Peds never pick up their phone. You can stay on the line for 5-10 mins or longer and still no answer. If your child(ren) are sick, don't expect to get them in the same day at the JI location, chances are slim to none that they'll have something available. Plan to drive to another location (typically they offer Summerville) or they've suggested the ER to me several times. Being sick does not constitute going to the ER! The ER is for emergencies and hospital required treatment. I do not recommend this office. Ashame though because there are a couple outstanding doctors that practice there, the office just doesn't run efficiently.

I believe Coastal Pediatrics has a professional staff. The doctors and staff provide good and prompt service. I also believe that new workers may appear to be incompetent to others but with careful consideration of them being new workers, posting should reflect that. I have received services from the staff for many years and they get four (4) stars in my book and this is coming from a professional Licensed Social Worker.

I absolutely love Coastal Peds! We see Dr. Shawinsky and she's amazing. The wait times are never unreasonable and I never have any trouble scheduling appointments for my son. It's a huge plus that I love all the nurses, they are all so happy and sweet. And they always love on my baby boy which I also love. I recommend James Island Coastal to all my friends with little ones. :)

Doctors are great, especially Dr. Shawinsky, but be ready to deal with the worst office stuff ever.

We see doctor Geils and love her!! However, the office staff is incompetent and unreliable. I have never seen such an unprofessional doctors office. We stay because we love doctor Geils, but would give anything for her to open her own practice where we could feel our children's medical records were in the hands of responsible, respectful people.

Our son has been going to Dr. Shawinsky at Coastal Pediatrics since he was born and we love her. He has also been seen by several other doctors in the practice who have all been great too. We have never had a problem getting an appointment and love that there are multiple locations.

It is difficult to get them on the phone, and when I have a request they are unresponsive if it’s urgent, and responsive when it’s not urgent. There’s a lot of variation in the promptness of care and politeness of the staff. One provider called in the wrong medication for my son and I wasn’t able to get them to correct it, despite calling repeatedly. Meanwhile my child has a 103.5 degree fever and I am unable to get his medication because the doctor doesn’t have time to call it in.

Doctors were good unfortunately the staff cant seem to send prescriptions correctly to the correct pharmacy...waste my time!

I think this clinic is great. The office is always clean and bright. The assistants are always friendly and professional. I plan to use coastal for my pediatric needs for my children.

We see Dr. Giles at Coastal Pediatric. She is great with our daughters and gives us a lot of her time. She also really worked with us when I had a concern that had been blown off by other doctors. Now my 2 year old is seeing a specialist that Dr. Giles recommended. We are really happy with the care she provides. I have been frustrated in the past with long wait times after arrival. In addition, I have been called to reschedule my appointment on several occasions, which seems like a lot since we have only been patients there for a year and a half. That being said, I accept the frustrations because I like the care by the nurses and Dr. Giles.

We love working with the pediatricians at Coastal. They have a great group of providers. All their patients love them because they take their time with each child and parent.

I have been with the James Island practice for over 21 years and the quality of service and professionalism has definitely declined since Coastal took over. I am looking for a new pediatrician. They book their doctors with too many patients and the wait time is unbearable. My last well visit for my baby took over 2 hours for us to even see the doctor. If you don't schedule appointments first thing in the morning, forget anything else you had planned for the day.
