I loved Dr Mubarak initially when he was my firstborn son's pediatrician. However, when my son was about 18 to 24 months old, I grew concerned over his developmental and speech delays. Dr Mubarak repeatedly assured me that he would be fine, that "it sometimes takes boys a little longer." I brought it up again at his 3-year well check as my son wasn't interactive and had trouble communicating. His speech was hard to understand and sounded like his hearing might be impaired, and he didn't seem to know how to communicate his wants and needs. Dr. Mubarak (with all smiles) reassured me, "He's a normal boy. He'll catch up. He'll be fine!" Shortly after he started kindergarten, his teacher recognized that something was wrong and pushed to have him evaluated. At that time, he was diagnosed with unspecified learning disability and ADHD. Three years later, after much more testing and repeating with transitional kindergarten, he was diagnosed with autism. This was my first child (now 17), and I'd never known anyone with autism. I wasn't aware of the extreme importance of early intervention for ASD or that organizations like Baby Net even existed to make sure he got help he needed. I just knew something seemed wrong, and my concerns were just chalked up to the fact that he was "just a boy". No, he was an AUTISTIC boy! Needless to say, we changed pediatricians. This same child later developed high-risk AML leukemia. His current pediatrician diligently followed up after abnormal blood work, and thankfully it was discovered before it went full bloodstream, with only 3% blast cells contained in the marrow (oncologist said there would've been 80% blasts in the blood/spinal fluid in a matter of weeks and therefore a worse prognosis) Any delay in this diagnosis could've yielded a very different outcome (currently two years in remission). I recommend choosing a pediatrician that you fully trust. It's not always just for a well visit with no bumps in the road.

Doctor's are wonderful but, front staff makes it not even worth the aggravation. They are so rude and inconsiderate.

My 4 month old son has reflux since the day he was born. In fact, it is so bad he spits up at least 75% of what he eats. The doctor's are less than helpful in trying to help finding a solution for refluxy babies or their exhausted parents. They "don't offer prescriptions in support of reflux at this practice", but were super quick to offer him a prescription that "helped sooth his throat when he puked". Desperate, I did try this prescription, but it did not improve the puking, and it made my child MORE uncomfortable when throwing up. I set another appointment to see the doctor about what we could do because no one was sleeping in the house (far more than normal with an infant). I asked the doctor to check for lip ties, tongue ties, milk allergies etc. I was clearly desperate!! No solutions were offered. I asked for a referral to a Pediatric ENT to check anyways. Turns out he doesn't have lip or tongue tie. So then we took it upon ourselves to try different formulas. After trying Gerber gentle, Gerber Sooth, Gerber Soy, Enfamil Gentle Ease, we even tried added cereal to the bottle as recommended by the Mubarak to make the milk "thicker" NOTHING worked! The baby continued to puke, and puke, and puke. Finally! WE found Enfamil AR. It has been wonderful. My child seems happier, healthier, and keeps his food down. He has even started on some puree. HOWEVER :( Enfamil AR is not offered by WIC unless a form is filled out. I let Mubarak know that we needed this form filled out, and his nurse brought it to me. I didn't notice that it wasn't properly filled out, so when I went to the Lexington WIC office, they denied me the formula until the form is properly filled out. I called on a Thursday to have it properly filled out and fax it back to WIC that day. Now that it is Friday, and Mubarak is not in office, I'm finding out that WIC didn't get a copy of the fax. So I go up to Carolina Pediatrics, inconveniently from Lexington/Pelion area where I live and found out from his nurse that he WILL NOT correct the WIC sheet because he doesn't believe the child has a diagnoses additional to GERD in which he needs this formula. (For anyone who doesn't know, WIC won't fill this formula out unless the paper states that the child has GERD, plus one other diagnoses, to which the WIC office stated that he could checkmark "OTHER" and specify "Irritability to most other formulas" and that would be enough to get covered". Not a BIG deal right?! Nothing like a big eff you than when your pediatrician doesn't care that you finally found a formula that your baby can hold down, then them not wanting to properly fill out a WIC form so you can receive the benefits of free formula that you qualify for and truly need. At $30 a can, up to 10 cans a month, that is a $300/month bill that a young mother cannot afford. & for other mothers struggling with REFLUX, please don't wait a year for them to "develop more". Search for your own solution or find another pediatrician that supports the idea of your child being happier, sooner. Please research lip and tongue ties, they are commonly misdiagnosed by pediatricians, ENTS, and pediatric dentists. Luckily my child didn't have this. But it has helped many mothers to get revisions.

THE BEST! Dr. Mubarak came highly recommended from multiple sources and I am so thankful to have him as primary for both of my boys (9 mos & 4 yrs). We've also been in a pinch and had to take them in when Dr. Jones was available and she is FANTASTIC as well. THE BEST!

This used to be the PLACE to go!! But it is obvious based on it's recent reviews, that more than just myself think that it has gone down hill! They are great if your child has a wellness check or a cold (despite their long in room wait time). But if your child has a less than normal situation, you will not get the help that you need. My son has what appears to be mental health issues: Self harm, night time teeth grinding, holds his breath frequently (outside of a tantrum situation), what appears to be an issue with his motor skills etc. I have talked to his pediatrician about his behaviors as they first began about 2 years old, a little here and there. But I was always reassured that it is "just what rough boys do". Now that he is six, struggling to function in school or handle most situations a boy his age should be able to handle, and I have developed a whole laundry list of issues he has, I asked for a referral to a behavioral and mental health specialist to have it evaluated. In fact, I requested to the Associates in Behavioral Health, located in the same building, they share THE SAME CARPET. I thought this would be a beautiful relationship since they are in the same building but I was completely mistaken. I got my referral to Tumar, and that is when my situation became bitter. I explained to Dr. Tumar (however it is spelled) at the Associates in Behavioral health, that I wanted to discuss my son's behaviors in private without my son being present (AT FIRST), then he could speak to the child, mostly because I didn't want to talk about my son in the manner in front of him. He agreed, so I left the child with his father in the waiting room. After supplying the doctor with the laundry list of very concerning behaviors, he promptly stated that he "could diagnose the child with four things: ADHD, anxiety, depression and possibly somewhere on the spectrum, HOWEVER, it would be malpractice for him to diagnose my child with any of these without him first seeing a Neurologist to eliminate any physiological issues to include epilepsy". Then I asked if he would like to speak with the child, to which he said, "I don't really need to just based on what you've told me". How do you give a referral or diagnoses to a child that you haven't even seen? Should have been my red flag. That's not even the big problem. After being told that I should tell my pediatrician (Mubarak at Carolina Pediatrics) that Tumar said I need a referral to a Pediatric Neurologist, that's when it all hit the fan. Apparently just because the two places share a carpet, doesn't mean that they communicate on any professional level. IN FACT, they argued for nearly a month over who was the responsible party for writing the referral, which I still never got. It resulted in me having to set an additional appointment with Doctor Mubarak at Carolina Pediatrics to go over the same symptoms I had gone over with Tumar at the Associates in Behavioral Health and Mubarak over the years, to which Mubarak explained he would not be writing a referral because he did not believe the child needed to see a Neurologist or a mental health specialist?!?! It left me with a partial highlight of a few diagnoses and total heartache with dead end solutions. You lose alot of trust in a Doctor, when the moment something as scary as your child's mental health is discussed, everyone starts sipping their cup of tea and pretending like they don't know who is responsible to help the child.
