Disappointing. The office staff is not capable of filing proper paperwork with insurance companies. I spend more time working with my insurance company to fix Ballentine Family Practice insurance submission mistakes than I do seeing the doctor. What’s worse is that I often have to go in person to help them understand how their insurance submissions are wrong. Then, they say they understand and will fix it, but but they don’t and I have to go into the office again. Oddly, the office staff is so pleasant and really appear to be able to handle it all. It’s just all disappointing.

They say they take Tricare Prime but then charge you for the visit anyway saying this is how Tricare Prime does it. This is not the case. If you are a military family, do not go here. I spoke several times with Tricare and had authorization to see this provider which meant I do not have to pay for the visit. I was told by the office if I came to my appt, I would still have to pay and wait for Tricare to reimburse me. This was told to me on the day of my appt after having it scheduled for over a month. Clearly this practice does not want Tricare patients/military families.

My girlfriend went here and loved the nurse practitioner, so now I'm sick and trying to get an appointment. I spent all day calling and trying to get an appointment and keep getting forwarded to an answering service after 10-15 minutes on hold and they won't return my calls. Just a waste of time trying to get in there.

I love Dr. Ashley Dean.. Congrats on her new edition.. My daughter and I love the care we receive. The front desk receptionist is always prompt and courteous. Jessica always gets us with a smile. It's not everyday you can find a doctor that cares about your well-being the way they have shown us. It's worth every cent and the wait. See you at our next appointments

I love Dr. Steen, but I have the same issue that some below are complaining about, the office staff is not answering the phone! I have rarely called their office and had someone pick up immediately. It always goes to voice mail! It is particularly annoying if you are sick and need to be seen ASAP. I could understand if they were particularly busy, but anytime I have been in there my wait has not been more than 5 minutes and there are sometimes no other patient's in the waiting area or only 1 or 2 others at most that I have seen. I have seen three receptionists in the office at one time and don't understand why someone can't pick up the phone! I give Dr. Steen 5 stars, but ZERO for not answering the phones!

Do not recommend Jamie steen as a doctor. She has no empathy for patients. From day one she basically told me that I don’t know what it is you’re looking for but it’s not gonna get better. She does not give a pain medicine even if you’re suffering. You should feel comfortable going to the doctors, she makes you feel uncomfortable and it feels like you have to to make an argument just so she listens to you. So now I am suffering, I am in alot of pain. She discharge me as a patient because I wasnt able to make it to some appointments. It’s really difficult for me to make it sometime to doctors appointments.... how was I supposed to make it to some appointments if she doesn’t give me pain medicine ...so how Am i able to go there ? Horrible just horrible. Now we have to find another doctor and now we have to continue to wait. So I’ll just sit here in pain , suffering. Maybe she just hates her job .

Wouldn't recommend this office, especially if you EVER need same day appointments. Today is Thursday, I called for an appointment at 8:00 AM for a MRSA infection that isn't healing, and was told I can't be seen until Monday by any physician. If this was the first time , I would never write a review. However, this is about the 3rd or 4th time. I think I've only been able to get a same Day appointment one time in my year and a half as a patient. I will be moving on to a new practice.

I want to give more than one star because I don't believe Dr. Jamie Steen is a bad doctor. Of course, I've only seen Dr.Steen once and BECAUSE NO ONE WILL ANSWER THE PHONE AT HER OFFICE... I CANNOT MAKE ANOTHER APPOINTMENT. Seriously, I'm not the only one who has complained about this. This is an affliate practice with USC and Palmetto Health (two of Columbia's best institutions) and this is how they're managed?

I went in as a new patient. They charge a lot higher than the average rate. On top of that they padded their bill with charges that were never requested, nor needed. I feel ripped off, and I will not return to Ballentine Family Medicine.

this is the worst place i have ever been racist and a fraud please dont go very rude no compassion they hate black people and think we are all junckies and poor trash they dont care about people their in it for the money i was sick and they turned me away dont go their!

This is the most unprofessional doctors office I have ever been to. First time I came for a physical and immunizations they neglected to give me a shot that was clearly stated I needed on the sheet so I had to drive back an extra day to get it. They then proceeded to schedule my PPD test on the wrong day. They scheduled it too late in the week therefore they were unable to read the results. They then told me I have to go to a mobile unit and pay an extra $20 for them to read it. They refused to pay for the service even though it is at their fault. Each time I've been I've sat in the waiting area for 20 mins minimum. This is the most idiotic group of people I have ever met. Do not waste your time going here.

Please do thorough research before joining this practice. Dr. Steen has failed me as a medical provider. At my initial appointment in March, she referred me to another doctor that didn't accept insurance. When I called to ask for another recommendation, she recommended a notorious facility that also doesn't accept insurance. I told her office I would continue the search on my time. As a result of her hurt feelings, she chose to discharge me from her practice without my knowledge or consent. Today I called regarding a serious medical emergency and found this all out. She refused to see me. I am now in the hospital awaiting spinal surgery.... And she did nothing to help me. 0/10, do not recommend.

I really liked Dr. Dean as my doctor. However, I needed to schedule an appointment due to being very sick with a sinus infection. I called one day and left a message. They don't have anyone manning the phones. I did not receive a return phone call. I called the next day and left a message. No return phone call. I ended up going to CVS Minute Clinic to get antibiotics. My feeling is this practice isn't worth going to if you can't even make an appointment when you need an appointment. The doctors may be good but support staff is not. I am really disappointed because I really liked this doctor.

I was a patient at the same dental office for over 60 years and when I moved to SC and I was so lucky to choose Ballentine Family Dentistry to continue my dental services. Dr. Michelle Mistele and her staff, especially Michelle who cleans my teeth, are professional and thorough and friendly.
