I interviewed six surgeons before I met Dr. Nelson. What a professional and pleasant experience I had. He replaced both of my arthritic hips in November. With his exceptional talent he used the ANTERIOR approach and my experience could not have been better. I did not need any pain medication at all. I was walking four hours after waking up, I was off the walker in nine days, driving in three weeks, swimming in four weeks and back in my office in five weeks. The first rate team in his office, in the OR, and at Presbyterian would impress anyone seeking excellence. Every person I met has been smart, responsive and very kind. My case may be exceptional, but I can truthfully say that my pain level was zero. I am about 100 days post-op and I am swimming 6 miles a week, biking 12 miles at a clip, walking 3 quick miles on the treadmill, and I can cross my legs again! I can't say enough about this surgeon, his ANTERIOR approach technique, the clinical team he has assembled, and the incredible staff at Presbyterian. This experience makes me sad that I waited so long to have my poor old hips replaced. Thank you Dr. Nelson!

Dr. Charles is an excellent physician. He was kind and compassionate, he explained everything. He reviewed the test results patiently and in the detail I required. He listened intently. Something you don't find often any more in a physician. I was a particularly difficult case and he handled it with ease, following me through all the physical therapy. I have had multiple surgeries with him and he was always the same, knowledgeable, pleasant and genuinely concerned for your welfare. I have recommend him many times.
