I had been a patient of this doctor for several years, I dont recall exactly, but close to 10 Id say. Over the 10 years or so, I had to miss MAYBE 4 appointments due to life happening.
The last time I missed an appointment, I made several attempts to cancel the appointment the day before. The only option I was going to be left with was to contact the "on-call doctor". I was forced to call them as soon as they opened the next morning at 8am.
They attempted to charge me $50 as a "late cancellation fee", when my copay isnt even half of that amount. I told them I would not pay the amount, as I made every attempt to cancel as soon as I could. They notified the doctor.
A couple days later, they called me at home and asked again if I was going to pay the $50. I explained to them again, what the circumstances were and how I made every effort to inform them as soon as I could. The woman on the phone had some smart remarks to say, while also trying to discredit my reason for missing the appointment (work). I told her that I was still not paying the $50, and that I would be finding a new doctor (which I did about 20 minutes later).
Fast forward 4 days (today 10/12/17), I receive a certified letter saying I was being discharged from their practice.....Um, Hello. I removed myself from your practice when I said that I wasnt going to return and Id be getting a new PCP. I guess the letter was a way for them to inflate their ego and make it seem like they discharged me, and I didnt just leave the practice on my own.
Also, if you want a doctor that sees you as a person and not a number, I wouldnt recommend this one. My average visit was 20-30 minutes, where on average, less than 5 minutes were actually spent with the doctor. More than 90% of the time it would end with pills being thrown at you.
