REVIEWS OF UNC REX Hospital IN North Carolina

The nurses were rushy they didn’t seem to care ...they were rude and not friendly at all ..UNC Rex needs new nurses this was the worst hospital experience I ever had !!! I will never come here again and I don’t recommend anyone to come here if you want to be treated correctly. Horrible.

Sadye Riley

Worst hospital experience ever. They don’t care about the people that come in. Try to talk to them after the fact about it and they make excuses. If you want help go to another hospital where they actually treat you. When I was in triage I was very close to passing out and was green (according to triage nurse). I told them on multiple occasions I needed water and was told no because there was a high chance I need surgery. Yet I was put back in the waiting room in excruciating pain and forgotten about. I ended up leaving so I was never seen. Yet I had a large bill come in the mail. This place is a joke. Save yourself a headache and go elsewhere.

Clean and not crowded noon time on Saturday. Arrived 11:30 Seen for initial screening within 15 minutes and Dr within 15 minutes after that.

Elliot Poole PA at urgent care in Holly Springs was condescending and dismissive. Not sure of his “expertise” since he didn’t offer any exam...instead flippantly sent us to Rex ED. Nurse Greg in ED offered same level of “empathy”. This is a poor example of patient-centered care. Neither clinical staff introduced themselves, provided any semblance of compassion or concern. Is the Expertise AND Empathy simply a marketing campaign? Both staff persons would benefit greatly from Carolina Care scripting remediation. Words matter!

Rex used to be an amazing facility but we've been very disappointed in the quality of care the few times we've been there. Most recently, The bathroom in the room was dirty when we checked my elderly grand mother in. When they took her for tests, rather then putting the sensors on her bed when they took them off, they were put on the floor & reattached to her when she came back without being sanitized. She can not walk, dress or get up without assistance & was in the same gown for a few days as well as in unchanged bed sheets. The water pitcher was empty & when she did have water, it was not placed within reach for her to get it nore was the drink glass. Her bladder bag was so full it looked like it hasn't been changed in some time. When asking the nurses for extra assistance with anything, at times they seemed irritated they were being asked & would look at their watch. These are just a small list of concerns. The nurses were working their tails off but they were short staffed & can't get to everyone to help with their needs in a timely manner. I would strongly suggest bringing candy stripers back to assist with some of the daily activities to see that all the patients can be taken care of. Not sure what's going on over there but I'm very dissatisfied with the lack of care given especially for the prices you pay for services.

My family member received great care. The nurses, doctors and staff were very caring and attentive.

Richard Cline

Had hernia surgery here a few months back. Smooth. Staff clearly knew what they were doing. Now fully recovered and back to normal activities!

Kailyn Caviness

I was a admitted for 12 days in the 7th floor east wing. I've never been as well taken care of then my the wonderful staff. I have nothing but good things to say. I live in Wilmington and will drive 2+ house just to receive their care because it's the best of the best. I also love that in the hall I was in they had pictures of all the nurses and everything they have accomplished. Because let me just say this. If there is proof on angels they are on the 7th floor east wing. The entire staff is just amazing from doctors, nurses, custodians, etc. In most hospitals you would feel upset about being there or have that uneasy feeling. NOT at REX. You walk in the doors and just feel the positivity there. I've been so inspired by this place that once I graduate and receive my RN this is where I'm going to work. REX had a huge impact on me and my family what I want to be able to give back to provide the best care like what I received. I will be one of those people excited to go to work because REX is just that amazing.

My wife and I came here to deliver our first born, and it was a really great experience. Our main nurse during delivery was Lindsey and she was super friendly, knowledgeable and just a pleasure to deal with. She is truly awesome at what she does. The rooms were really nice and they almost treat you like your staying at a resort. The moms order each meal while they stay, and the staff brings it up about an hour later; much like room service. The food was really good too. All the staff was very helpful and pleasant. Overall, they made this a very nice experience.

I am here at Rex hospital at this present time with my mother. The doctors are good this one particular RN Jodessa was really nice and understanding. This one cna was nice as well but very slow. One young lady at the nurses station was really nice. The rest have nasty attitudes, they are especially slow, and don't look like they really want to be at work. This hospital staff could use a lesson in politeness and learning how to smile, or learning how to deal with sick people. But mostly they are turtle slow with bad attitudes. But I understand the slowness if they are with other patience or emergencies arise as they often do. Update: the complaints team I guess you would call it came and in and all my issues were voiced and it was stated that it would be handled. Thank you !

Sabrina Scott

This is a horrible hospital! !!! I would not bring a rat to this dump. Doctors are complete idiots and morons. They dont have a clue of what to do. It is no wonder that poor man died two rooms down from my mother. On top of that you got a staff member yelling get the morgue on the phone for transport. Talk about respect for the one who just passed away and his family! Please go to a hospital that cares and know what they are doing! If you get Dr. Donahue or Dr. Wise run as fast as you can!!!!!!!

My dad was taken to the Rex ER from an ambulance, he crashed his car into a hydrant. When arriving to the hospital, my sister found my dad leaning over the side of his bed almost ready to fall out. He hadn't been seen yet by anyone. He had an oozing head wound and was bruised up. He wasn't seen by the physician for another hour and subsequent CT scan and x-ray took another hour. They hadn't bothered cleaning his head wound or monitoring his vitals during the visit. He was discharged with a head wound they told us to clean and bandage. The ER was virtually empty. My dad has good insurance I expected better.

Kayla Lucas

The wait time in the emergency room was awful but once I was in, they took great care of me. Doctors and nurses were so pleasant and kind. I was getting my first surgery and they talked to me about everything, making sure I was comfortable. Definitely recommend.

Worst experience of my life went in for an MRI today with sedation get back from MRI have blood from my nose, coughing up blood and a scratch on my leg and coughing really bad...was told to my wife when she questioned about it that they had to put in a nasal airway and put a breathing tube in. I have had several Surgeries and this has never happened before also worked 10 years as a paramedic and 4 as critical care never have I heard of this happening and no one could give us answers. Just got home from REX which is an hour and 15 from my our house and nose has bleed all the way home and hurts....also a Pct removed my IV which legally is not in her scope of practice and had a very bad attitude and was ease dropping out side of my curtain listening to me and my wife's conversation after she was told atleast 5 times to close the curtain after she said I could get dressed.....will never ever be back to this hospital....

My parents are in their 80's and we have so many experiences through the years with many hospitals. I can't say enough good about the nursing staff that work on the cardiac floor. They were amazing. Their level of concern, attentiveness, skill and kindness was unlike anything we have ever experienced in any other hospital...ever.

L Ulmer

From the first entry into the emergency room, I received professional care and attention. UNC REX HEALTHPLEX has always been my Hospital of choice. I will recommend it to all members of my family and friends. Thanks UNC REX for being there for me today.

Alexis Belmonte

Slow. Impersonal. My pee was lost for a good 5 minutes. Would take mly chances driving further next time.

Brenda Hicks

I had surgery there and spent 1 night. My experience with the surgeon Dr. Parks, the nurses and entire staff was great. The food was good too.

Stephanie Lyn

Good luck if you need to call their billing department. Their billing department is rude, uneducated, and not helpful. Plus they make you wait on hold for 15+ minutes at any given time to allow you to be graced with their rudeness. VERY unimpressed.

Fereydoon Sadri

I have not used UNC hospital. I used to go to UNC network doctors.when it comes to billing and charging U the are super star. provide a decent medical care, let's say , they like to seee U again and again, and U will pay again and again and again and again.......

nickie hamilton

I went to the emergency room when I was 11 weeks pregnant because I believed I had had a miscarriage. Heartbroken and terrified that my baby may no longer be there the team of doctors I worked with got me seen quickly allowing me to get the results that my baby was perfectly healthy and kicking around! Not only did the staff treat me stupendously while in the emergency but the head doctor that was taking care of me called me a few days after my visit just to check on how I was doing both physically and emotionally. It meant the world to me to have a head emergency room doctor personally give me a wellness check call rather than having an assistant do it or not doing it at all. Time passed and I was ready to have my baby! I had to be induced caused to health issues but all my nurses and doctors made things as comfortable as possible. I can truly say I loved every minute of labor and every minute after. The staff was absolutely wonderful and nurturing to me and my whole family. Also side not the food is absolutely amazing! I look forward to delivering another baby at REX and any other future interactions!

Shawn Sell

Terrible care. Haven't managed pain in the slightest. Won't give me otc drugs prescribed by my doctor (gas x) And others. Allowed my daughter (15 years old) to see me half naked, an on life support. NEVER come here.

Eireann Lily

I was admitted very quickly, they did thorough testing, all the staff I met was super helpful. The RN Donna who took care of me was super funny and made light of bad situation and has been incredibly helpful, answered all my questions with ease, been incredibly hospitable, and has made my stay winderful! The doctors in the ER also were very friendly, kind, and answered any questions to my concerns and such. If anyone in my family got incredibly ill I would immediately recommend them here :)

Cindy Johnson

My mom was on 6th floor and received the worst possible care you can imagine. You have to beg for a nurse to help with anything. No compassion whatsoever. We would use the nurse call button for someone to come help and no one would come. Finally went to the nurses station and they are all laid back with their feet propped up. No professionalism at all. I am a nurse and am simply appalled by the lack of care. There definitely won’t ever be another visit here from this family

Alexandra Grove

Saved my Dad's life a few years back by providing him quick and attentive care. Dedicated nurses helped my Dad and I in the ICU and gave him all the necessary tools (dietitian, PT, etc.) to bring him home. Any other time we have been here we have had incredibly friendly and timely service. After all that they took nearly $60,000 off of our bill because we lacked insurance.

J Brannock

I'm actually at the hospital and j feel like cattle. Were all put together in groups for what we need. Ct scan or blood work etc. No beds. No individual attention. In fact they've barely embraced the fact that I'm here. It took me 11 hours to get a bed. I'd never go back here, like, ever

widget leigh

Went in for fainting and a concussion. Had a lump on the side of my head. In the triage area, they were incredibly dismissive and told me to go wait in line to get a urine sample. While I was waiting, I passed out again, again hitting my head. Then they put me in a wheelchair in a corner and I'm pretty sure forgot I was there for a while. Then they took me to a room where I waited over 3 hours for a ct scan. Doctor didn't once look at my head where I had fallen. Then, after the Ct, they came in and simply discharged me. Said they didn't know what was wrong and there was nothing else they could do. Asked them what I should do about the passing out business, and they just said to be careful standing up. I said what about driving? They told me just not to drive today, and to just rest as it will probably go away. Completely unacceptable. I'm basically leaving the hospital no better and knowing zero about what's going on. Go somewhere that actually cares. This place certainly doesn't.

Sierra Newsome

I did not enjoy my care here for any of the times I have been to the ER. I probably won’t deliver here for the very reason that I don’t feel welcome. They are pretty condescending. I rather did enjoy my full ultrasound appointments with Dr. Goodnight and his ultrasound technician and that’s about it unfortunately.

ER I sustained an open tib /fib fracture and came to ER via ambulance. I was immediately placed in a bay and was greeted by a nurse. Dr arrived within ten minutes. Unfortunately, all the pain meds I had on board when they decided to attempt to reduce the fracture was fentanyl given in the ambulance. They decided to give morphine, but continued with manual traction and repositioning of broken bones to allow for a splint to be placed without waiting for the morphine to take effect. At least portable x-rays were performed immediately afterwards. My request for surgery to be delayed until the morning was taken into consideration even if the ER doc wasn't too impressed by my explanation that I didn't want emergency surgery by a surgeon who already had a 10+ hour day. 1.5 hours later they give me more pain meds (hydromorphone this time as apparently they recognized the morphine was insufficient), and after they took effect they irrigated the fracture site and try to reduce the fracture yet again. Still not enough pain meds to make tugging on and repositioning broken bones in a leg that is swelling about twice it's normal size tolerable, so sorry to anyone who was disturbing by my screaming. Tl;dr- Was seen and treated immediately in ER, but at the expense of pain management. Redefined 10/10 pain for me and possibly those in surrounding bays. 6 West I had great nurses, aids, techs, and housekeeping so idk where all these negative reviews are from. Everyone was great at explaining things, but sometimes didn't have accurate information from the drs/other departments/ ect. There was sometimes a 10 minute wait if call button was used around the hour mark & the nurse was busy with other patients. When I refused a Foley catheter at 2am and asked to have it placed closer to surgery, the nurse passed on my request without issues. Only issue I have is I was not allowed to shower before discharge, even though I was allowed to walk and the shower had the bench and handheld head that would have made showering there much safer. Food It's pretty terrible. Worse than public schools, college dorms & buffet restaurants. Additionally, there's very limited options, and lunch and dinner options are the same for that day since they're continuous service. The vegetarian options are pb&j or a salad, which is fewer and worse options than even most steakhouses. Surgery I met the night anesthesiologist when transferring from the ER, and saw both him and the day shift anesthesiologist in pre-op. Both were friendly, clearly explained their plans, and answered questions. The pre-op nurse was also friendly and helpful. However, I literally met the surgeon and was told what procedure he was going to perform and what hardware was going to be used when the anesthesiologist had to go find him so that I could sign the surgical release form prior to being sedated for surgery. The nurse asked if I would sign the release form stating that I had been told about the procedure, risks, and potential complications without actually meeting the surgeon and discussing it with him. I'm not sure if my expression or his own common sense had the anesthesiologist shutting down that suggestion real quick. The post-op nurses weren't as personable and it was very tiring to hear them repeatedly tell another patient to not to get up/remove their IV as they were just getting out of surgery (about 15 times in a ten minute period). I wasn't monitored very closely, even though I received 3-4 pain meds in post op and my anesthetic regimen contained ketamine which is not reversible. Also, I was transferred between a few nurses when they were trying to figure out lunch breaks. I'm not sure I would trust loved ones to that lax monitoring, but it was good enough for me. Also, family members were not allowed in post-op at that time as a prisoner and two guards were there. Overall Public hospital full of bureaucracy and is short staffed and underfunded.

Normally hospitals give me the screaming willies. Maybe its the smell. Maybe it's genetic programming that warns us to stay away from concentrations of sick people. Maybe its the perfectly reasonable fear of MERSA. Anyway, I recently visited REX Raleigh to take a coworker to the ER. He was in town from our Toronto office and experiencing some seroius gastric distress. Arriving at the hospital by car, the signage for the ER is a bit confusing; there are signs for a CHEST PAIN EMERGENCY and (regular) EMERGENCY that might suggest that these are separate entrances. Combined with the fact that there are two curved, covered arrival areas leading to big double doors, you might conclude that the smaller one on the right is for fest pain patients and the larger one on the left is for general emergencies. This may seem like a petty complaint but some patients arriving at the ER might waste precious seconds. There is both a multi-level parking deck and a ~200 car outdoor lot; I parked in the lot. It's an open lot and parking was free, at least during the two daytime hours of my visit. As far as the visit, I had positive interactions with all the hospital employees working reception, security and even janitorial. The ER waiting room is large, well arranged and comfortable. There are multiple TVs, drink and snack vending machines (pricey though), and a play area for kids. The men's room has only ONE stall and two urinals however, which is at least two stalls and one urinal too few for the size of the waiting room. They also have free WiFi, although it appears to be capped at about 3 MBit so don't expect to be distracted from your woes by HD video bloopers :). On the plus side, I didn't notice any Hospital Smell, at least in the Triage and waiting areas. My coworker lives in Canada, which has a national health system which provides completely free health care AFAIK. He said he was perfectly satisfied with his experience. He was admitted into triage immediately and discharged in about two hours. Paperwork appeared to be minimal. Note that his experience was probably helped by the fact that our employer provides heavily subsidized comprehensive health insurance;YMMV.

I just had a family member in the ICU and I have to say that all the nurses there were great with him. They were not only professional but genuinely seemed to care about not only the patient but us as the family also. I realize that there are some bad reviews on this and other sites, but please keep in mind that most EDs have bad ratings thanks to people using them as doctors offices. Most of the in patient units have great customer service. I would definitely use Rex as my hospital of choice.

We went here in labor Jan. 31st and they Dr. James Hardy turned us out for false labor . Said we needed to leave and go where we were supposed to go 15 mins down the road to Wake Med . We had decent insurance accepted by the hospital. We liked tlwhat they appeared to offer but that didnt matter. By the time we arrived to wake med it was to late for any kind of comfort because in that 15 minuets drive she was ready to deliver . Thank God for the wake med team he was born a healthy boy. I will never use ReX and will never forget to mention it to any person who may think about using them in the future for any reason.

I was scheduled for surgery at 1:50 on a Thur and didn't get into the OR until 8pm. The excuses I heard were "emergencies" and "short-staff." Yes, it was the Thur before Labor Day weekend. Life goes on. Plan accordingly. I received no other information or comfort. My surgeon didn't visit until 6pm and defensively said it was not his fault. I cried out of frustration and anger at the nonchalance of the staff and the hospital. I didn't get to my room until 11pm. The next day/Friday I asked for food (hadn't eaten since Wed) and when would the three IVs be removed as they were constricting and one was very painful. I was told via intercom that I had to order my food and it was past breakfast. I explained that I didn't even know the process and was wired up. Shortly after, a nurse came in to give me meds. I asked about removing the IV. She was curt and advised that she was the only nurse on the floor and that she had others to attend to first. She must have realized something in her attitude and removed the IVs. The whole experience at Rex was horrible. I felt that my care and comfort were not a priority. I'm only giving one star because I came out of alive.

Dr. Flemming saw my partner, Shirley Samit, in the Rex ER and immediately nailed her ailment (shingles, even though she had had a shingles shot a year ago!). Dr. was personable, sharp, very professional. We liked all the staff. Thanks.

Kawtar Mousouf

Not responsible at all, I did my blood work and called after a day as they told me the nurse said that the doctor will call me back but I did not hear from them. It was a Friday they closed and could not get my results till Monday!!!!!

Jay Thakkar

The nurse (Meghan) does not follow protocol of putting the label-ID on drawn blood vials. Somebody threw away the blood once drawn. Same thing happened of urine sample. The bed was unprepared. Very unprofessional behavior. More than six hours of wait in emergency room! I hope this review will help others. If you have other option available, steer clear of here.

Mary Johnson

Dr. Parekh and his staff did an outstanding job caring for me. Dr. Parekh takes his time and answers questions. Ann, my anesthesiologist, was excellent, too. Very caring and gentle.

Do not go to this emergency department if you can help it! Travel the extra miles to go elsewhere . I wish I would have gone to the wakemed emergency department in brier creek. Two weeks ago, I was suffering from a kidney stone and in excruciating pain when I arrived. The receptionist at the front, who's name I don't remember but I can describe her as a middle aged black woman with a bad wig, didn't even bother to look up from her computer to sign me in. Finally, the security guard, who happened to be standing there gave me a sign in sheet. I tried to explain to her that my doctor has sent me over and was faxing over my info and she dismissed me and told me to have a seat. The emergency department was so busy that I kept getting pushed back. I understand this and did not expect priority over ambulance arrivals, but I did wait 5.5 hours before being called back. Around hour 3.5, after throwing up in the restroom because I was in so much pain, I finally decided to go back to the reception desk and beg for help or some kind of pain medicine. When I got up there, (the same Rude receptionist) looked at me in disgust and backed away from me as if I was some contagious zombie trying to attack her. I told her I threw up in the bathroom and she told me to go back to the triage and knock on the door for help. While I was back there waiting overheard a conversation between a nurse who worked there and another nurse who was having some kind of allergic reaction, in assuming they were friends. The nurse who was working basically said she would get her friend bumbed up on the waiting list because she was a fellow nurse. Not cool. Also, the receptionist never bothered to call a janitor to clean the bathroom , even after I told her I threw up in there. My experience once I got back to see the nurses and doctors was fairly good. They are the only reason I rated 2 stars vs 1

Silvana Alfieri

Went to the emergency center for severe abdominal pain that had been plaguing me for months. Left with no guidance on my situation except for the fact that I do in fact have pain. This was a stressful, extremely painful and aggravating way to spend 5 hours in the middle of the night.

This hospital is the worst hospital. I came in as shortness of breadth I drove to ER, there was a Dr in emergency department identified as Chakka whereas on my Medical record she is not the Doctor of record it says Dr is Christine Thomas Knettell. I have not seen this Dr Knettell, manipulating the MR is a crime changing the dr's name when I never saw this Dr. Dr Chakka diagnosed me as having Pulmonary embolism and started heparin she sent me to CT scan which came out negative she continued to give heparin (a blood thinner to dissolves clot). then she did an echo of heart thought I had a heart attack, obviously I did not have chest pain, I was ruled out for heart attack and pulmonary embolism. when asked why I was given heparin she said "I don't want to take a chance to save herself". I was shifted to ICU with nasal canula oxygen. The heparin kept going overnight and my hemoglobin kept going down I profusely was bleeding into my lungs. An Intensive care Dr named Dr Meehan came I said to her to discontinue the heparin. I had to take charge and discontinue this heparin if I did not I could have bled from every orifice in my body. They gave me tons of antibiotics besides every culture they took was negative. it was a viral pneumonia but they simply failed to diagnose this. My oxygen saturation was 85 percent due to bleeding in my lungs. The next day I was intubated taken to Operating room and a pulmonologist sucked out large amounts of blood. Dr Chaakka and Dr Meehan are incompetent. These people play with your body to an extent to cause death. when asked for medical records I did not get the full detailed records they manipulated everything. The nurses never came when call bell was pressed they simply ignored and caused additional problems for the patient and stress. ---Dr Nazeer

My husband had surgery and the staff is great but seriously bring a cooler. Unless you want to eat junk or can actually eat when the cafeteria is open even. I had 1 hr total all day i could actually go eat and of course its closed. I arrived here 5 hrs ago and have another 5 at least to go. Just bring a cooler of drinks and food for your all day experience.

TERRIBLE! My blood pressure was 160 /101. They took my blood 4 vials. They placed them on the stand next to my bed and never sent for tests. I stayed there two hours no IV nothing. when my BP dropped to 148/102 They told me to go home even though I was dizzy. no meds no nothing. Horrible geeling to go home wondering if your gonna have a stroke. I wad told by my doctor they should not have released me with my BP that high. This hospital hasn't been good in years!

I was in Rex Hospital, Raleigh, NC in late August 2017 for a replacement for my pacemaker and adjustments to the way it was wired to my heart. Several weeks later I returned to my cardiologist office for the removal of the staples that held the incision to removed the staples. I had a previous operation at Rex several years before and remembered that when the staples were removed from that operation the nurse overlooked three of them and I 'found' them later when washing my head after the removal when I was showering. I returned to the doctors office and the same nurse removed the newly 'found' staples. I thought about it afterwards and realized that in their standard procedures in the OR they do not count the number of staples they put in you, and consequently, the do not know how many to remove from you! Well, that's what happened to me again! That's two strikes. I asked the nurse who removed the staples from my chest at the cardiologist office, this time, how many staples she was suppose go remove. and she didn't know! A few days ago I found another staple still in my chest and thought, 'Oh no! I can't believe it!' So I already had an appointment with my cardiologist today and pointed this out to him and he quickly sent in a nurse who looked carefully, and removed the last staple, I hope. I would strongly advise Rex Hospital to add to their basic OR PROCEDURES TO COUNT THE NUMBER OF STAPLES THEN THE OPERATING TEAM PUTS THEM IN, SO THE NURSE WHOSE JOB IT IS TO REMOVE THEM KNOWS HOW MANY THERE ARE SO HE OR SHE GET ALL OF THEM OUT I Hope that this makes sense is helpful to Rex,, other surgeons and other patients in the future. The best associates friendly staff quick in and out always see the doctors with in 24 hours of call

had to go last time I was home, hope I don't have to come back, but it's all right

If you can get into a hospital at Chapel Hill...then get into the hospital at Chapel Hill.

My surgery was October 25th.. I was released the next day.. My stay was awesome! I felt like I was in a hotel instead of a hospital. Dr. Deibel in my opinion the best surgeon ever & his nurses were the best. They gave me around the clock care. My pain level never went bove 2. UNC Rex will always be my choice. Thanks Dr.Deibel and staff for a pleasurable warm stay.. One more thing, the food AWESOME. Especially the Salmon. Lol

Mary Beth Wright

Although the surgeon and his team were great, staying here has been a disaster for my loved one. The air conditioner here does not work. The food is seriously lacking in nutrition and the staff changes make it so that there are large gaps of time you can’t get anyone to help. The bathroom had pubic hair all over on the floor and the towels and such were full of pills... paper towels would have been softer. This is our third bad experience here over the course of five years. Just go to Wake Med. Demand that your surgeon perform there or switch doctors.

Raj yar

Not at all happy. Billing is ridiculous, will take advantage if you have minimal knowledge. Confirm ten times before going for any treatment.

Robert Work

Great care. The professionals at Rex are concerned with your health and your care. The nurses are top notch and could not have been more thoughtful or helpful. There was one clinker however. After my hip replacement surgery one of my caregivers, a nurses assistant, appeared to me to be very glum and unfriendly. She gave the impression that she resented being there and really wanted nothing to do with patients. Her first name was Michelle. While removing an IV needle she managed to cause a good deal of unnecessary pain and subsequent bruising and the injection site. I wasn't sure whether it was purposeful or merely a consequence of incompetence but either way this young woman needs training and or guidance. I hope someone at Rex reads this and takes action

I have been a patient in 5 different hospitals in my lifetime. UNC Rex was absolutely the best facility. A few surgeries and weeks in the hospital were made much better by the great nursing care and from all the other employees. The food was good and all areas of the hospital were clean. I had not a single complaint after having been a patient there for weeks. My wife and family were also accommodated and treated with much care and respect. Now for an update on my review .... And here it is a year later almost to the day and needing surgery again. Although I am fortunate to be able to go to any hospital I would like it's without question that I choose UNC Rex for my surgical needs. My surgeon is affiliated with all the major medical centers in the area and I could choose whichever I like, but ...... "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"!

had my routine six month check up earlier this morning around 9AM. The nurse completed the random check up and stated everything was fine and she wanted to schedule another appointment in six months. I asked her am I not going to see the doctor and she said no. She said if I wanted to see the doctor then she could get him. Considering my health condition, I was extremely disappointed that the assistant came in and not the doctor. The assistant was very nice but this is unprofessional since I was unable to see doctor. Why is the assistant consulting on my health? The assistant was not a nurse nor a doctor. Disappointed. As a customer, I expect to be treated like a real patient and I have heart problems so I expect the doctor to see me not the assistant. As a heart patient, the doctor should want to see me since previous heart complications could have ended my life. Advise to everyone looking to visit a hospital or urgent care, my recommendation is make sure you are consulted by a doctor not an assistant considering you are paying full price from your pocket and health. In addition, I made several calls in the morning but no call was returned by Rex Hospital.

I was born here! Yesterday was my 26th birthday! :) I don't remember the experience but I know it's a great place :)

Stephen Black

Amazing experience! RN and support teams were top shelf, attentive, and compassionate. Facility was wonderful

Colleen Lyden

I do not like the ER,however an abnormal EKG,shortness of breath and chest pain brought me here. I waited triage nurse had me as a completely different patient. Red Flag! I was taken by wheelchair to sit,be forgotten about holding a cup of urine. Waited forever, tachycardia,HR,never left 135bpm. CT scan to r/o pulmonary embolism. First doctor is all about “if the CT doesn’t show anything we will figure it out.” My husband arrives to me back out in the waiting room. People around us asking him “is she okay”? I could not see faces just hear. Finally CT scan, lands an arrogant ER physician with 2 students in the room because the CT was clear. So,why the pressure, irregular HR,chest pain? No answer other than bronchitis...I am allergic to opioid pain medication. I am not even sure they had the correct patient. I have worked in the medical field beginning with the ER. I knew I was being charged for every moment I waited for my discharge paperwork. I removed my own IV line, discarding it in the biohazard box. I walked out of the room assisted by my husband,to let the nurse kindly know I am to old for this. She was the only kind person there. I left with heavy chest pain and a HR of 135. I am still having a heavy chest and severe chest pain. I am writing this in case I don’t wake up. I am someone’s daughter, someone’s wife, and first and foremost a mother and Grandmother. When treating patients always think about that. I am not finished with this by any means, please believe that.

The worst experience. Never again.

my Daughter recently went in to have an outpatient procedure to have a Chalazion on her eye lid drained. Really simply quick (10 min) procedure. I was told when she came out before they woke her up that her IV would be removed. When I saw her in recovery it was NOT. Also, She had fell a few days prior to having this procedure, resulting in busting her chin open. We had it glued back together and I made them very aware of it so they could take precautions to not bust it back open. When I saw her in recovery her chin was bleeding everywhere and no one had even noticed. Then when asked what happened to her chin. The nurses tried to cover themselves by saying oh we were told that happened at home and she hasn't moved out of the bed, or fell. I understood that and yes it did happen at home. but when we got there it was glued shut. Now it is busted open and bleeding everywhere and yall have yet to notice. Thanks for the Traumatic experience for my 3 year old Rex. I really appreciate it.

Monty Gearhart

The Aussie Doctor in ER should re-take sensitivity training and keep the arrogance in check. We are people. The rest of the staff was wonderful.

Mike H

Surprised how well organized they are. Went there for surgery.

Henry Diaz

Brought my mom here for severe pain in her neck causing tiggling in her neck. Worst experience ever. Miami ERs have been a much better experience. Shame as Rex used to be a good hospital. I was here myself before and was treated very well. I would bring your loveds one here. Wakemed was a much better experience.

Helene Headington

Great experience here! Staff are all professional and just extremely nice. They took my health seriously and didn't rush me out. I felt confident that I was getting the best treatment available.

Andrew Vincent

I went due to severe abdominal pain. They treated me promptly, courteously and very professionally. I hope I dont have to ever go back, but if I need healthcare, this is where I will go.

**Don't go to REX ER while pregnant!!** This review is about the Emergency Department. I went to the ED in June when I was 4 weeks pregnant due to severe all over body aches and an elevated temperature. Throughout my time at the ED, they did not take my temperature after my initial temp was taken when I got there and did not listen to me when I tried to tell them I was in pain and something was wrong. I requested Tylenol multiple times throughout the 4.5 hours we were there, and was told no. I finally sent my husband out to demand someone come and give me some Tylenol. The nurse came in and did give me Tylenol, then took my temperature. The first temperature she got she did not "like" (took it in my ear), which was 100.8. So she decided to instead take my temperature in my mouth, holding the thermometer barely under my tongue, and got a temp reading of 99.9. They then discharged me and sent me on my way. I took my temp. in the car after we left, and guess what, it was 100.8. UNC Rex was negligent in monitoring my temperature, especially considering I was 4 weeks pregnant. Now, our baby has Spina Bifida. I'm not saying that REX caused this to happen, what I am saying is they increased our baby's risk and potentially caused the SB by not listening to me and taking my concerns about my temperature seriously. An elevated temperature during the time when the neural tube is being developed (weeks 4-5 in pregnancy) increases risk for Spina Bifida. I will not ever go to UNC Rex for any emergency or other services again.

Tom Jerwoski

Horrible. My trip consisted of a 5 hour wait in the waiting room followed by a 3 hour wait in the treatment room. A terrible excuse for a hospital. On top of all this the exact same treatment that cost 400 dollars at a different hospital cost 1800 here. Definitely do not recommend the emergency center at this hospital.

F.l.o.ck2 2gather

No compassion in my opinion. How can you look someone in the face that's sick and waiting for 5 hrs and lie continuously. The night shift nurses and doctors working 7p -7a on 8/21 mislead me. The doc was nice but every hour for 3+ hours (after getting a room-2hr wait) I was advised 1 more minute. The nurse apologized for misleading me then sent me back to my room for an additional hour. It makes people like Taylor and Caroline (beautiful souls) look bad. It would have been nice to be advised a realistic time. I know it must be difficult to advise of a precise time but 1 min to 2.5 hours seems ridiculous. Send out prayers for those that have to go to the emergency room. 7p-12a (so far) 8/21 Doctor : Hunt

I had a wonderful experience at this Hospital considering I was scared and nervous my nurses and Drs was so understanding .They made me feel so welcome I stayed over and I felt safe... and I like how Endeavors there staff was True all American Hospital with good values Way to Go Rex

jihad sana

Absolutely horrid hospital. The physicians working the Emergency Room treated me like garbage as soon as they found out that I had Medicare insurance. I suspect that some of my blood test and CT scan results were falsfied. My advise is never come here for help.

Delivered my two daughters at Rex in 2006 and 2007. Staff was very friendly and my stay was very pleasant. Would recommend anyone to go there.

The only reason this place gets two stars is because the Puerto Rican Tech Ms.Jessica was very kind to me and were one of the few people who made me feel like I was still human. Entered Rex ER willingly due to mental health. I genuinely feel as if I were not treated with care.... I was threatened to be sedated AFTER I had previously been calm. I wasn’t posing a threat to anyone so I feel as if I was just labeled “crazy” because of why I was there.... THANKFULLY I was able to inform her I wasn’t in need of sedation because I’m already relaxed and that it’s extremely unnecessary. I even took the time to tell these medical PROFESSIONALS how to approach people with mental health problems because they made me feel like I was a prisoner and had committed a mass murder. They didn’t listen to me, didn’t ask if I was ok and showed no remorse or compassion. I made the biggest mistake going to REX !!! I was terrified for my life in a place where I’m supposed to be cared for. Back to Ms. Jessica (Puerto rican Tech) was outstanding. She helped me remain calm, connected with me on a personal level and made sure I was ok.... she made me feel safe and has a great listening ear and gave good advice as well! The security guard who stayed with her was very pleasant as well and her name is also Jessica (wears a silver wedding band and is Caucasian). These two girls are magnificent and once again are the only reason this place gets 2stars. GO TO WAKEMED AND GET REAL HEALTH CARE !!!!

Jon Markle

Facility and staff have improved so much from several years ago. Like night and day. And the cafeteria is fantastic! Best “hospital food” around. Can’t wait for the new Heart and Vascular tower to open.

Tiera Pee

Greatest hospital ever...staff are on it and I can't stress enough how Dr Inge is the best doctor around in my opinion..I want to give a huge shout to 4th floor west wing y'all gave me life..Lori Ann ❤..u r the best!!

courtney brown

I've been in the waiting room for 6 hours and counting.... definitely not coming back

Vanessa Hodge

Just accompanied my sister into the ER, the receptionist actually said "Is something wrong, why are you staring at me?" This in the middle of my sister having a ruptured ulcer!!! Can not believe this is the face of "care" at this hospital!!!! If I could leave negative stars, I would have done so!!!

Nancy Foss

Home Instead. My experience is with Rex Home Services and the case managers. We have the privilege of partnering with them to bring quality care to the seniors in our community. Everyone I Have dealt with have been extremely kind and helpful. Great staff

Melisa Verbal

I love this place. Inside and out.

Lauren Hill

The people at REX saved my life. The ER staff (particularly PA Jeff) and nurses who treated me in the hospital (especially Camille, Jeanine, Vickie, and Glenn on 3 East) provided exceptional care. I really could not be happier with the nursing staff--they were kind, very knowledgeable, prompt, and professional in dealing with all my needs, questions, and requests. Other staff members also treated me with sympathy and respect. Quinesha, who wheeled me from one of my tests, was so sweet and provided much-needed emotional support. Even the housekeepers asked me how I was doing. I highly recommend the facility and would not hesitate to come to REX if I ever have another medical emergency.

CJK Kittrell

My husband had back surgery here. We arrived at 5:15 a.m. From the time we arrived, everyone was so nice and friendly. There are little touches that make you feel special. For instance, they have lockers in the surgery waiting rooms; they call you throughout the surgery and provide updates; and FREE PARKING! It was a great experience for both me and my husband.

john williams

My Mother has been at Rex for 3 days they are doing a Good Job taking Care of her

Jo Do

Awful experience. Had surgery and was treated very rudely to the point of putting me in tears. Nurses were also rude even though it was my the first surgery residentand not attentive to my needs in the hospital, she was also very RUDE!

Maria Boykin

Rex doesn't deserve 1 star. My grandfather who's sick and displays sundowner was verbally attach by a nurse name Sharon on the 4 hundred. I'm so dissatisfied with the staff. I wonder how can a well known hospital with well trained doctors have such staff members that do not show concern or empathy.

Emily Kay

I delivered at Rex and had a WONDERFUL experience and have chosen to deliver there again for my second pregnancy. The nurses and doctors were all great and my process was very uncomplicated!

Frank Gomez

So my mom went to the Rex because she was not feeling well... And she doesn't speak good english ... And the nurse gave her a pill and told her to take it... My mom repeatedly asked for water to take the pill.. And the nurse tell her she don't need water... My mom asked why.. And the nurse took the pill out of her hand and threw it in the trash and told her she didn't need it and that she was fine... According to the other nurse that was very nice.. She said they been having problems with the same nurse.. What kind of professionalism is that... This hospital has given only bad experiences to my mother and I ... My mother is 80 years old... Treating her like that is no excuse... We had to change to Duke Medicine ... What happened to the doctors in the old days... They actually used to care and take care of the patient ... Now they just write you a prescription and lead you out the door... Very disappointing. .

L Johnson

My wife and I had our baby at the Rex Birth Center in March. What a wonderful experience, not just because of our precious new addition, but because of the compassionate care we received by all of the Rex co-workers. The CNA's, RN's, and MD's all treated us like family. Thanks for all of your wonderful service and care!

Peter Denhoed

I had a very good experience at Rex. I had a sudden 2 day stay for an unscheduled operation. I wanted to share that I received excellent care, professional, attentive, timely, and courteous, in a modern, clean and quiet facility. I am totally satisfied with the skills of all the staff. If I had to select a hospital again, in Raleigh, I would not hesitate to select and recommend Rex.

David Brooks

I was hospitalized here for severe kidney problems -- outstanding treatment. Our two younger children were born here. In both cases, we were extremely satisfied with everything -- including a special steak dinner for the new parents (us).

Zach Sunderland

Love Rex. Just had our second baby here and both times we had good experiences. They tend to over communicate, in a helpful way, everything a new parent needs to know. The staff seems to be ready to help and typically on top of things. Waiting, triage, delivery and recovery rooms are all comfortable and adequate for what they are. The recovery rooms have been especially pleasant. Favorite part of this hospital is the generous courtyards which kept our older son sane while visiting.

Mainak Ghosh

my son was born there. they gave us five star treatment and hospitality

Starlight Counseling

This place has it all. Usually when you think of hospital food you think of nasty morsels no one wants. Rex excels high in the sky with their heart healthy and tasty variety. You feel the passion of all of the staff from housekeeping to the doctors and everyone in between. Rex master's the number one curative factor in healthcare: empathy. I don't wish for anyone to get sick but if you do, Rex is the place to go.

Nate Lambert

My wife and I had our first child here. I was excited as this was the place I was born. The hospital itself is very dated for as much money as they bring in and charge. The staff was not bad, you had some good apples and bad apples with nurses. My biggest concern now is, that when we left, they stuck me up for $1100 more than what I was suppose to pay and would not let me leave until I paid that amount. So I paid it with a promise of a refund when everything clears. Makes no sense right... Either way, its been several months and numerous calls later, I still have no refund. On top of the money my insurance company paid them they now are sitting on my money as well. I have called over and over, and have been given the run around. This was suppose to be a good experience, however it has become a nightmare. Our second child will not be born here due to this. I am so disappointed.

Pam Katchuk

I love Rex. My son was born there in 1988 and it was a wonderful experience. I more recently had been in several times for tachycardia (now fixed). I got in immediately each time and found the nurses and doctor to be extremely kind and capable.

Laurie Ashley

My mother has been seen in the Emergency Department numerous times and was admitted on more than one occasion. I cannot praise this facility highly enough. We did not experience one staff person who failed to treat my mother with respect and help her maintain her dignity in difficult circumstances. The doctors, nurses, aides, room service, transporters-everyone was kind and patient. I highly recommend this facility.

james Williamson

Great Hospital!Best staff!!yes you may have to wait a little at first in the er.but that's anywhere.Once moved to back everything was worth the wait. Thanks to whole staff at Rex Er

John Philbin

My 5 year old son took a spill and got a pretty nasty bump right above his left eye. It was swollen real bad and so out of an abundance of caution i took him here. After getting triaged we had to wait a little bit but all the staff there from the receptionist and security to the nurses and doctors were all very sweet to the little guy. When we saw the doctor my son opened up to him and started telling a long story. The doctor, who i could tell was very busy (of course) just stood there smiling ear to ear listening to his story. It was very sweet. As it turned out he was fine. Just a big shiner that will look terrible for a couole if days. But the bedside manor they had for my son, from the top down was awesome.

Joan Mavor

Very satisfied with my experience in the cardiac unite.

Kabir Baidhya

First class hospital at NC.

I delivered my child via c-section at REX and I could not have had a better experience. Every doctor, nurse, and staff member went above and beyond to ensure myself, my family, and visitors felt comfortable, safe, and supported in every way. The nurses were AMAZING! They were there to provide assistance every step of the way and did everything they could to help answer my questions and ensure I was prepared for post-surgery care when I got home. I can't say enough great things about my experience!

Paul Crockett

My wife's friends told us that Rex is the best place in Raleigh to have a baby, and our experience here bears that out. She came here in January for a scheduled C section, and though it started late, the actual surgery went perfectly. The surgical staff seemed really competent, and our baby was delivered with no problems at all. Our post-delivery stay went great also. Almost every nurse we dealt with was friendly and attentive, despite everyone being busy due to a heavy snowfall that hit while we were there. Even though the place was packed full, they somehow found me a cot to sleep on in lieu of the pull out chair. The only quibble I have is that they were sometimes a little slow with my wife's pain meds, but as I said, they were busy. I'd heard a lot about the food here also. I didn’t get a chance to try the Corner Cafe restaurant, but the cafeteria food ranged from decent to very good. I got a burger there that actually tasted as good as anything from Char-Grill. After we got home, my wife's recovery went amazingly well, and within weeks she could hardly tell she'd had major surgery. We don't plan to have more kids, but if we change our minds, we're definitely having our next baby at Rex.

Donnie Brown

Great pre-op service

Maria Colon

Great staff all around; prenatal and lactation teachers, admin, nurses and doctors. Had a successful VBAC in October. I can attribute some of my successful experience to the L&D nurses (Pat, Alisha and Ruth) and to my team at Capital Area Ob/Gyn. After 20 hours of labor and 2 nights stay I would recommend this facility to anyone.

Jasmine Reese

This place was excellent and takes care of you! The staff is wonderful!

Stephanie Bingham

Called to set up an appointment for a first time patient. Online they are listed as performing obstetrics and gynecology, and through a search from my insurance provider they are listed to also perform pregnancy ultrasounds. The women who answered the phone asked how she could help me to which I replied I would like to set up my first prenatal appointment. Without hesitation in the most rude and condescending tone she responded "...and you call a hematology department". I immediately called her out on her rude behavior to which she did not apologize for. I had called the primary number and chose options on the automated system for "schedule an appointment" and "first time patient" but was never directed to a specific department. Regardless if I did connect to the wrong department a receptionist should not handle it in this way, she should say let me direct you to the correct department not insinuate that I am an idiot for calling. Of course hormones are raging and I am emotional and pregnant but I myself answer phones at a vet office and I would never dream of using that tone or saying anything like that to a client. I got off the phone crying and scared to call anywhere else and get a response like that.

Ryan Black

The doctor "Hunt" I believe her name was told the staff in advance of a surprise inspection an told them to manipulate patient care records. She advised them after the inspection to downgrade the care homeless patients and suicidal patients would receive because " they just want a cool place to sleep and 3 meals a day". I visited the hospital for heat stroke after being stranded in the heat for an extended period of time. I had lost unconsciousness two separate times despite drinking excessive amounts of water. It is deplorable that someone would advocate stacking homeless people on the floor or uncomfortable chairs and reducing their care because they are poor. A overheard a nurse saying that "I got what I deserved for attending a Trump rally" which was PART OF MY JOB which I did without judgement because I am a professional. They also denied patients blankets and pillows so they wouldn't be too comfortable. This place needs an attitude adjustment. When I complained to the Attorney General they knew them by name.

Travis Toliver

Great staff, and good amenities. Kind of confusing to find the correct buildings

Victoria Smith

I had a wonderful experience at the ER! Fear of a possible bloot clot had my GP send me to the ER, and the doctor (Dr. Fleming) and nurses were outstanding. Kind, understanding, and just really nice people. My ultrasound tech was too funny - great guy. I know every visit to a hospital is different for every person, but I have to say these people were great. Thank you!

Summer royster

Rex has made me feel so welcomed while my mom under went a hip replacement and i am 3 months in on breast feeding everyone helped me find a place to pump as my child wasn’t with me. I am so thankful for everyone and how considerate they were of me pumping.

Renan Sper

I walked in the ER with severe acute back pain without history of injury. They took 1.5 hour to see me. In 10 min a brief physical exam was done, and the nurse or Dr concluded I had back spasms. I was prescribed pain meds. A few days later I was diagnosed with 2 herniated disks by another Dr. I end up with a bill from the ER of 800, for a physical exam and prescriptions, and not proper medical work up or diagnosis. Not going back there that s for sure.

Allissa Ward

I'm disappointed I even have to give this hospital one star just so this review will be seen. I am a 21 year female that lives alone that has struggled with kidney problems for about 5 years now which has allowed me to be seen at about every hospital. I get serve pain in my abdomen when my right kidney gets inflamed and it causes my whole body to go into shock. after being okay for about 8 months the pain decides to come back Sunday am. after fighting going to the hospital for about 2 hours trying to self medicate myself with antibiotics and Tylenol, I finally got into enough pain to where I had no choice but to drive myself to the hospital. when I get there I'm rushed into the ER from my car, I can barely speak I'm in so much pain, I then motion my purse to get my id and within minutes I'm in the room. that's where all hell breaks loose. the 2 nurses (one training) comes in, I tell them what's wrong and instead of them trying to fix it they ask me why I was up at 5am in the first place. um hello obviously I was in pain and it woke me up. the doctor then comes in, couldn't even tell you what he looked like because I was crouched in a circle holding myself trying to releve the pressure and pain, the nurses then come back in say they will start an iv as the doctor ordered but couldn't give me any sedatives unless someone came to be with me. so I gave the nurse my mother's number. the other nurse at the same time was trying to put an IV in my arm, after 6 failed attempts she finally got it halfway in there so I guess she said that's good enough and tapes it up. (remember I've been hospitals my whole life, the IV is usually the easiest part, even if they forget to put the saline and burn my vein in the process) after loading it with medicine with only half of it going in the IV and the other half going all on my arm (oh well it's not like they are paying for it)I finally say please just put the catheter in so I can relieve this pressure and pee, I'm hurting from the pressure so if we relieve that it should be an easy job right? the nurse in training was selected to insert it, which caused the most pain of my life (remind you I've been having this issue so a catheter is my saving grace) but she couldn't even do that. now pee is all on myself while the bag is emptied. I scream to stop it and get me another nurse or my doctor because it wasn't in right and it's making the pain worse and instead another nurse came in trying to hold me down so the nurse who knew nothing could try to fix it. it caused so much pain I grab a nurse who was overseeing the nurse messing up trying to hold on for support and she pushed my hand away and said don't touch me. remind you, I'm by myself 21 with half an IV and a half in catheter trying to stay calm and just needing a hand to hold while her fellow employees cause even more pain. I finally wrestled myself out the bed, fighting off a nurse who gave me 2 big evident bruises from holding me down, but ironically enough having another nurse say don't touch her. doesn't make since. after fighting my way out I call my mom crying, and she's in complete shock because she had no idea I was even in the hospital even though the nurse said she was going to call her before she gave me any medicine. I'm just in disgust and horror with this hospital. it's scary to know my insurance will only cover this hospital, because they are nothing more than money hungry women who are there for a paycheck and not for the want to help the well being of their patients. luckily my family doctor returned my call within minutes of me leaving and I woke up today feeling better than ever. just writing this to inform other people if you want to be taken care of with trust they have your best interest at heart, DON'T COME TO REX. the overweight blonde woman with a short haircut should be nothing more but a janitor at the facility and even then I would be worried about the floor being half-ass mopped. Please do not send me a bill for my bruises and my holes in my arms I have experienced enough pain and trauma.

Angela Chalker

Great job. Im impressed.

Mark

I did not have a good experience here so this would have been 2 stars. However, I met with a brilliant general surgeon here who I respect a great deal and is helping me out with a sports injury unrelated to my trip to the ER. Because of him (Dr. Weinreb) I have lifted 2 to 3 stars; however, if you go to the ER for something and are on medicines that are the type where people may judge you, expect they will not give you adequate replacement and bring your own medicine(s). They don't want you to take medicines they can give you but you will find they're not in an immediate rush to get anything to you unless you are near death or the medicine is life saving. I believe it is unfair for any physician to judge someone without adequately looking into someone's medical history to see what they are being treated for so decisions are informed and not opinionated. The rest of the staff besides the ER doctor seemed nice but I felt judged during my visit. I would give them a 2nd chance on any given emergency as you can't assume every experience is the same.

Is that all the stars you have, let me tell you the amount of times my life has been saved by the staff on 4east. No matter whatever the situation has been Jacqui Murphy and her staff has been awesome. Momma Jacqui keep up the great awesome work. what I do know is the staff reflects leadership.

Jennifer Hoverstad

I've had two babies at Rex, utilized the ER on a couple of occasions, and I'm currently spending near weekly time in the Cancer Center as a patient. Between the kind staff, the attention to detail, and the knowledgable doctors, I feel like Rex has become my medical family! I trust the advice I'm given, and I know that the technology used is top of the line. I can't wait to see how Rex will continue to serve our community for decades to come. It's my first choice for healthcare in Raleigh.

dana borrellie

Tonight I came to visit my brother at the ER for chest pain. When I went to see how long he's been waiting for results it was 3 hours. Waiting 3 hours for results for someone who's been having chest pain is ridiculous. The customer service there was poor. I went to check to see how much longer was it going to take for the results to come in the front desk weren't concerned at all. I was just advised to knock on the triage nurse door to let them know he is not feeling well & to see how long everything will be. The nurse looked at me , and disregarded me. At this point I was furious! I told my brother to go up to the nurse & tell them how you feel. He went up there more then once and was ignored by the nurses. My brother left that night with no results and the staff just being rude to him and telling him bye as they cared less! How can people be so careless about people who only needs medical attention !

Update: The billing supervisor ended up working with me and attempted to send the bill to the insurance company. When that did’t work, he reached out to patient relations and was granted permission to write off the charge. I’m glad that happened, but it was still a very long process and the hospital has some serious adjustments to make in their billing processes overall. It put unneccessary stress on me and my pregnant wife. This is why I am not upgrading the review to 5 stars, but only 4. Either way, I’m just happy this billing situation is settled. Thank you Kevin, as you seemed to have been the only one attempting to fix the issue. Avoid at all cost! UNC has a great name but that’s about the extend of it. These people will not abide by their own billing contracts!!! My wife is a patient with their midwifery. They referred us to the genetic counselors due to an ultrasound result and stated that this is the next step in the procedure. This turned into a billing nightmare and showed us that UNC DOES NOT care about their pregnant patients. UNC refuses to send the genetic counseling procedure to our insurance company!!! Their patient relations rep Cordelia then had the nerves to tell us that it is our responsibility to know what our insurance covers and that it’s basically our fault, completely igoring the fact that UNC DIDN’T EVEN SEND IT TO OUR INSURANCE!!! How would they even know if it’s covered if they don’t send it??????????? She then said we had agreed to the charges by signature so I asked for a copy of that statement. The statement actually says that we agree to pay our portion of the cost, whatever the insurance doesn’t pay. It also stated that we agree that our insurance pays UNC directly. Basically, it says that UNC will send it to our insurance, which they refuse! Anyway, the billing department supervisor Kevin then (after weeks of talking to him) said that he will have it sent to our insurance. Well, that was a lie because we are still receiving the bill in the mail, minus a 40% discount for being “uninsured!?!?” These people are liars, scammers, and absolutely pathetic!!!

Don't get me wrong - the medical folks are great. But, their record keeping is decrepit. Lost my surgery notes from nine years ago. Inexcusable and unprofessional. ***Update - They weren't lost. They were archived off-site. Rex found the files and got them to my doctor post haste and I am good to go. I have updated my rating to where it should be, Thank-you, Rex.

What has happened to the Rex emergency room?!? Thank goodness I have not been here in years - I now go to Wake Med North when I can but tonight I was worried about a DVT in my leg and Wake North did not have a Doppler on the weekends so I called Rex and they have one. I’ve sat in the ER now for an hour and 15 minutes. It’s filthy. Food all over the floor. People throwing up in the main waiting room into bags and then the people working at the reception desk telling the family of the guy throwing up to just dump his bags in the open trash can by the reception desk. Those bags have been sitting in that trash can for an hour and nobody cares. No sign of a custodian anywhere. It’s so sad. Rex has invested so much money to build their campus up but the ER is completely neglected.

My mother was brought to Rex by ambulance from another hospital due to a ceasure and heart attack. I have never experienced such wonderful and thoughtful people as the employees and caregivers at Rex. My family would like to give a special thanks to nurse Melanie Joy Davis, thank you Mrlanie for being our Angel of mercy and love. We are forever grateful. Kim Callaham Adkins and family, kelly Jo Callaham Bates and family from Brjnging up Bates , UP TV. Tgank you all so much.

My family' and I have been treated wonderfully during a very stressful time. The support staff Benny and Debbie deserve a raise!!

I had a really great experience tonight. Staff was super nice, and everything moved very smoothly. Unfortunately I had to deduct one star because when I went for my MRI there was a white female who was not very friendly and made me feel like an inconvenience.

My wife went into surgery for a 3-4 hours surgery which lasted 6.5 hours, this was needed and she has an excellent surgeon. Recovery was to be a couple of hours, it lasted more and then the news came she will be going to ICU: I asked to see her and my request was denied, the nursing supervisor mentioning HIPPA! Again in the ICU, we had to enter her room from an outside door and if we needed to use the bathroom we could not use the one on the unit we had to walk a long corridor to the public ones, again HIPPA! Then while in her room, I observed 6 visitors walking inside the unit, passing by my wife's room and congregating in from of a room nextdoor. Their pic is on my page in FB and this is HIPPA for Rex. The nursing staff in the ICU and on 6th floor are wonderful, compassionate and professional. I will refrain to describe the one in recovery! Shame on you!

I had a joint replacement surgery recently & was on the 6th floor. Most of the nurses were just 'ok' during my stay but had one that was HORRIBLE! She snapped @ me when I told her I was not to get out the left side of the bed which were the orders of the PT & Dr plus it was written on the white board in my room. I had to explain to her why I was not to get out the left side; I'm thinking why should I have to explain this to her; does she not suppose to read the chart or the board in the room? She proceeds to yank my operated leg across the bed to get me out in which I had to tell her that hurt. Then she told me she was going to drop my leg to the floor. I told her she need to work with me & understand I'm in pain & DO NOT to drop my leg. I really wanted to tell her something else. Then she tries to leave w/o putting my wedge back between my legs. She looks @ me as why would I want that. She puts it on; I have to tell her hold on b4 leaving; I need it tied back the way it was. She was horrendous! No1 should have this kind of a treatment in any environment. I do plan to find out if there is a complaint dept bc this needs to be addressed in addition to some other issues I had during my stay. I chose Rex bc I had surgery here couple times over the yrs & the service was fine; can't believe the change for the worse.

Took my wife here recently because she couldn't hold down no foods nor liquids, had no temperature and been starving for 2 days. After waiting for an hour she finally got seen. A so-call doctor told us that they had more important patients then us and told us to leave. Went to wake med and found out she was 3 weeks pregnant and having severe morning sickens. Wakemed took really good care of her. She 4 weeks pregnant now. She is hold down her foods and liquids. My wife and our unborn child is doing alot better.

We had my mother, first in the ER, then in a private room for 6 days. We found the staff to be caring, concerned, and very helpful. The ER wait was long with the long line of ambulances bringing in truly critical patients. Once we notified the staff that her foot was swelling from the clot in her leg we were quickly brought into and ER examining room and the doctor attended her immediately. During her 6 day stay, with her having advanced Alzheimers, she had to be fed. The staff took care of breakfast and dinner with us feeding her lunch. Never spending the night in a hospital myself, I was told how miserable hospital food tasted. Nobody told these people because the bits I tasted, the food was awesome. It's like something I'd order in a nice restaurant. The key to all this is be a patient patient, and all will work out.

This Emergency Department has a JET program that should be called snail. It has a goal of 90 minute care, but I waited almost 2 hrs for my child to be seen with a fever 102 and climbing , excruciating headache, numbing legs, shallow breathing, no one followed up to check on him, I had to challenge a staff member just to get a follow up fever check.. Some JET program.

Attempted to get my wife into ER. Triage was quick. Then we waited 5+ hours and they never called us. They were calling people who came in an hour after us. People obviously not in pain were called back. Even a guy with a gash in his head waited 5 hours. I do not recommend their ER under any circumstances. The rest of the hospital may be okay, but I've been to better ER Dept's in the poorest states in America. Epic failure on their part.

Never again. That’s all I can say. It’s clean but the level of care from 90% of staff is seriously lacking. Took days to get simple answers. Doctor refused to even stay 5 minutes to answer patient questions. Horrible staffing except for a few great nurses

The only thing good about this visit was how fast I was seen due to a very high fever and I was septic. The ER nurse that blew 2 veins and left the most horrible bruises I have ever seen on my hand and arm .( short white blonde) The ER Doctor was completely clueless and told me my kidney was completely blocked which was not true. I had surgery at this same hospital 2 days prior and it was like they had no record of it i was in server pain and they kept asking me the same questions. After being admitted I was given too much pain medicine and was severely hallucinating and terrors they tole me it couldn't be changed until a doctor approved it this took 2 days and I went a night without and was in severe pain and fever back high . Had several diff doctors tell me several different things as they tole me they would contact the doctor that did the procedure they never did my white blood count was at 20-18 and the had a PA saying it was up to me if I wanted to stay and wasn't sure about anything. I had a cleaning person come in and mob my room floor while i was in there and I had to wait until it dried to use the bathroom was was very hazardous being had a kidney infection and was using the bathroom very often. This was the worst experience I have ever had i will not get treated here again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Had my back surgery done here on July 29th, left the 30th. Had complications and went to my local hospital on Saturday. My hospital told me there was nothing wrong and sent me home. Come Monday, my doctor told me to go back to the ER at Rex and tell them what's going on. I was admitted again that and had another surgery the following morning. Every doctor, nurse, and tech took wonderful care of me. My favorite nurses were Marissa, Brianna, and Krista. And my favorite tech was Kim. Not only did they take great care of me, they made me feel like I was family. Even though I live over an hour away, if I, or any of my family ever has to go to a hospital again, we will go to Rex.

No one wants to spend more than a month in the hospital, but if you have to, UNC Rex is the place to be! I'm not gonna lie, the food is HORRIBLE, but the care I received from the staff & especially the nurses on the 7th floor & my surgeon Dr Adusumilli, was AMAZING! I thank God for ALL of you!

We were admitted into REX after complications from an outpatient procedure. We were there for four days and the nurses and doctors provided terrible service. Any time we called to ask for anything, whether it be an IV hookup, assistance with moving around the room or just basic questions it would take over an hour to get any responses. At times, the nurses would even show signs of having an attitude if they were asked to provide any type of assistance. We would have to constantly ask questions in order to get any information from the nurses. Very slack and hard to trust in the care that was being provided. I truly hope they can improve this in the future for the sake of those who are admitted and need future assistance.

Beyond belief bad. My wife sat in the emergency room lobby for almost 3 hours in excruciating pain. The emergency room lobby was practically empty. The few who were there appeared to have lesser problems - none in searing pain. As the pain killers wore off my wife almost passed out. I asked several times how soon. Repeatedly I was told "it won't be too long". Finally, after 2 hours and 45 minutes i noticed everyone that was in the lobby when we arrived was taken before us and othersthat arrived after were being taken. I demanded to see someone. The same blonde haired lady that did our triage said, "what's the problem?" Some triage. They still would not give us a time. My wife left in agonizing pain.

I would have given the hospital 5 stars, but the nurse who helped deliver my baby, as well as the on call Dr. were pretty rude. They seemed more concerned about my previous smoking habits than the current situation. After that everything was great. All of the nurses in after delivery unit are so nice. One stands out in mind, Wendy. If you ever see this, thanks so much for making my stay at the hospital a pleasant one! Great staff, and the hospital food is actually a high light, very good food! Minus the couple bad apples along the way, thanks Rex for making stay a pretty good one.

Partner has been there twice in the past week and each time they sent him home worse than when he was admitted. Poor quality of care all around do not go here unless it's a simple stitches.

Tyla McAffity

What I like about it is that they keep all of their patients in good care. And even if they loose a patient they will give sympathy to the family. There food is always delicious. They are totally the best hospital.

Jyotirvid Pawan

Very caring and expert staff. Please open a branch in India also mostly good private hospitals here are "Earning Hubs" and even average middle class can not afford. Government hospitals are disgusting with no or very poor care and facilities. So please 'Make in India' a non-profit good hospital and save many lives.

My wife had an appendectomy yesterday at UNC Rex Hospital. The care here is excellent from the nurses to the surgeon and all the professionals we had contact with. Even the volunteers who kept me up to date in the waiting room went above and beyond! Best hospital experience ever. Thank you all at Rex!

Helen Kelley

I was born here and life is pretty dope so 10/10

My treatment was all 5 stars

My comments are about the medical floor (3-West): Many excellent and dedicated nurses and nursing assistants. Generally good care and attention from staff. Meals are better than expected. Negatives: zero security; there are no access controls at all; anyone from the street can come onto the floor. The nursing station has a few people who seem to work little, and are focused on their cell phones. If you have a long delay in getting a response to a call light, your family members might need to look for help.

This Dr. Arun Manikumar was nothing but nasty. He refused to complete my exam, and still wants to get paid. He does not know the meaning of good customer service, and needs to go back to school. Empathy does not exist with him, so if you are in need of a physician that cares you may want to run as fast as you can in the opposite direction. I used to be a long time patient of Rex and would drive pass Wake Med during an emergency but never again! I will be contacting the joint commission and health department to file a complaint. I have already contacted the clinical manager for the emergency dept regarding his negligence.

Winter Schatz

They're not the best at taking care of trans patients. Their system doesn't account for gender or sex variance, and the staff aren't trained for it. Although some are clearly culturally aware of this discrepancy and try to compensate. I'm currently in a bed and they have taken my blood three times, urine twice an EKG. Somehow my labs were lost twice. Twice I have heard "I'm going to take it there myself". I have been here for almost 4 hours now. I don't know what's going on. Correction, they just asked for my urine again.

jon rickless

Best hospital in the area. Nothing but good experiences here.

Queen Zoaya Counts

The staff was great and very apologetic...however the receptionist in the second waiting room for same day surgery was very rude to an elderly man who was asking questions about his wife because it was getting late and he could not drive at night . The recovery nurses were wonderful.

Emmalee Keller

I had this doctor named Craig and I was not satisfied with him. I have in the past self harmed and am very self conscious about the scars. The past two times I’ve seen him he’s pointed the scars out which makes me very uncomfortable and embarrassed. He all around is not very nice in fact quiet rude. When he exited the room he slammed the door which is no way to treat a patient.
