We love this practice, especially Dr. Kavanaugh. We’ve seen her since our son was born and she is a kind, attentive and knowledgeable doctor.

They are by far the best PEDs in Durham. The staff are always so helpful and friendly. My children see Dr.Kwee who is obviously in love with his line of work. He has always gone above and beyond to make my children feel comfortable. He does not mind getting down and dirty or being completely silly with them. They are super flexible with hours and there are never long waits, always in and out. They are super convenient and have even scheduled multiple children treatments in one appointment.

Maggie Graham

Great practice! My children normally see Dr. Kwee or Pickens. Both are exceptional.

Brandon Belcher

The wait time is terrible some nurses are rude not welcoming. Liked it better at high gate. I arrived at my appointment 30 minutes early and wasn’t seen til an later for five minutes smh

Melany Jean

Had my first visit with Dr. Dave yesterday, he was awesome! Answered all of my questions and really helped me understand. Very happy to have found a great doctor with energy and such a positive attitude!! Can't wait to come back with our first baby

We love Dr Pickens! He is great with our son and I really appreciate his approach to care. We tend to always have issues with the billing end of things (we pay cash) and usually have to make a few calls about every bill but they usually get everything resolved quickly. But worth having a doctor we trust with our son's care.

Just started going there a month ago. Dr. Kwee is who we see and I think he is awesome...We never have to wait and all the staff is friendly!

It's hard to rate this practice in stars, because there are some really wonderful things and some really frustrating things. TL;DR: If they fixed the scheduling, wait time, and billing issues, this would be a 5 star practice, but these are pretty significant issues. Pros: The doctors we have seen have all been pretty great. There is a 24-hour nurse's line that is very helpful (but errs on the side of caution, so if you're not sure whether to bring your child in, more often than not they will tell you to bring them in). We have no complaints about the actual medical care. Cons: We spend the vast majority of our time waiting. Seeing a doctor or nurse for 5 minutes almost always takes at least an hour; longer if you ned more than one thing (like a well child visit AND a vaccine). They also "bump" (i.e., cancel) appointments fairly frequently, which is frustrating, especially if you've already arranged your work or travel schedule around your appointment. And the billing is just awful. We spend hours on the phone between our insurance and this office going over billing because the numbers are almost never right. Sometimes it's a matter of a few dollars and we just overpay because it's such a hassle to deal with; other times it's bigger things that take weeks or months to resolve. And make no mistake, even if the bill is wrong due to their error, any balance sitting on your account will automatically go to collections after three months, no matter how many people you've talked to or how much they acknowledge that there is a problem that needs to be fixed.

Almost every visit here, they magically looks my daughters insurance information. On today’s visit not only did that happen they couldn’t say her name right. Her name isn’t even hard to say and mixed it up totally. Secondly didn’t do her shots correctly. Different office staff, completely rude and took me calling administration staff.

John D'Adesky

We love our pediatric team here. They always take great care of the kids and have helpful hours.

The doctors at this office are great! We have been going to them since they were at Highgate. The new building is nice, but with the move they seemed to hire new front desk people and a few new nurses. The front desk people are now not nice at all! they act put off by the fact that you want to get an appointment at a certain time and annoyed they you would ask such. They are making me consider changing practices. Also a few of the new nurses are not very nice. They barely can speak clearly enough to understand what they are saying for me, much less for my 4 year old. Definitely not the welcoming and home like atmosphere it used to be at Highgate. I wish they hadn't made such drastic changes.

Great atmosphere, convenient hours and awesome doctors. Although Dr. Pickens is my child's prinary care physician, all of the providers my child has seen have been knowledgeable and courteous. My child has never waited more than 10 minutes to be seen by a provider, even when I've scheduled same day appointments. I'd recommend this office to everyone.

Wonderful care... Excellent staff... Awesome in every way..

Franchell Smalls-Lewis

Would not see me after waiting over a month to be seen because I told them to was no longer a sick visit but a wellness visit. First they wouldn't see her sIck without having her records even though I had everything printed from her previous doctor when she was sick. Second, I had to call them constantly to see if received the records. Third, no one ever called to see if the appointment needed to be changed from a sick to wellness appointment. Horrible service and just stated I couldn't be seen during the time we made because she wasn't sick. anymore. For working parents this is a true inconvenience and will deter all parents to come to you all EVERYTIME!!!

The UNC Ped's new office is simply beautiful. Our old pediatrician's office was a family practice and nothing about it was child friendly. This office is such a stark difference and total breath of fresh air! Bright colors are everywhere. Big windows let in loads of sunlight. The nurses and administrative staff are friendly and welcoming, all of them obviously happy to work with both parents and children. The office is so clearly set up for kids. It sounds silly, but until you've used a non-pediatrics office for your pediatrician, the little things can get lost. UNC Pediatrics provides wipes and diapers at the scales for the inevitable accidents that happen during well-baby checks. Scales double as measuring tools so babies aren't moved again and again. Nurses and doctors move quickly, appreciating and understanding that parents are on a schedule and that babies and kids are funny in their own ways! The level of kindness and patience with everyone here is wonderful. I cannot recommend this pediatrics office highly enough.

I called this office 3 weeks ago to switch my 4 month olds pediatrician from Duke to this office due to an issue with our insurance, that wasn’t brought to my attention until recently. I was told that I needed to have his medical records sent from his current doctor to this office and once received I would get a call to set up an appointment. So the same day I filled out all the necessary paperwork at Duke Peds to be faxed over to UNC Peds southpoint. I figured it would take about a week to process and would hopefully get a call in about 5-7 business days. Fast forward 3 weeks and I haven’t received any calls from this office, so I decide to give them a call to see if they ever got my kids medical records. The girl I was so lucky to be patched through to (after explaining the above situation to her) was quick to snap to her rude response that they were no longer taking new patients and whoever told me that I could set up an appointment after receiving my sons records was mistaken. So at this point In my conversation with this individual and her lack of personal skill and ability to manage anything other than setting up an appointment with a current patient I had to ask why this office was holding his records if they new that they couldn’t take any more patients and why didn’t they call and inform of this? So instead of answering my question or taking responsibility for whatever mismanagement that’s going on in that office (which I know isn’t her fault) she just offers to mail me my sons medical records. After my interaction with this office I’m relieved that I don’t get to bring child to see these doctors (which I’m sure do a wonderful job) just so I don’t have to deal with the incompetence and lack of personable skills of the front desk staff.

Always good experience -- great staff.

Tiffany King

My niece goes here and she sees dr.kwee who is absolutely phenomenal. When I was younger I saw Dr.Pickens so I know a lot of the great staff.

Crisyrna Doria

Bad experience. Not very welcoming. Receptionist on the front (the fat black girl) was very rude. We waited for an hour and eventuallycancel the appointment and told them we are not coming back...
