Dr Jeff Handschumacher is top in everything he does, perfect in his work, he listened to me and gave me the best possible solution for my eyes. He does care and what you say matters a great deal to him and you won't leave until he makes sure you are completely satisfied and comfortable. I definitely recommend him to you and I don't have enough words to praise him and give him due credit for the excellent professional doctor he is. The doctor is amazing, 100 per cent honest, 100 per cent conscientious. Gavin is an excellent optician in the Raleigh office. I am always grateful for how excellent he is in his job, perfect, precise. He is also gracious, gentle, patient and willing to work with you in whatever need you might have in your glasses. He has always come through for me and I am grateful for him. Stephanie, his colleague, is a true angel from the Lord and she has been an excellent resource to us.

Buyer Beware I brought in two pair of glasses to show them what I wanted. I did an eye exam so I could update everything and that side was professional. I then showed the employee my two glasses and told her I would give her one and to make everything exactly as I have it in these two. When I received my new glasses I immediately noticed that the lens was falling out of the frame and showed it to them for the shoddy workmanship. I then asked why it was so thick as it didn't look at all like my 2nd pair, that I had not given them. He quickly said it was due to the fact it was plastic. I didn't order some lousy plastic lens. I showed him my original pair and told them they got it wrong. The guy at the counter got mad and didn't care and walked away. I then reached out to the owner to share their error and this is his response. Thank you for sharing your concern. I reviewed your record and plastic lenses are what were ordered. If you would like to upgrade to High index, the Davis Vision co-payment for that is $55.00. If you would like to upgrade your lenses, please contact my optical manager and he will be happy to get it taken care of for you. Jeff Handschumacher OD He just verified that they did it wrong and now wanted me to pay more for their mistakes. That is not what I ordered and he didn't care either. I trusted them to take care of me and they failed. I followed up and was shut down with awful customer service and an owner that doesn't care either. My family and friends will not be back here and I will find a quality optometrist with ethics and staff that is actually trained. Do yourself a favor and do your research then go elsewhere. I now have to pay a new Dr. to fix everything and do it correctly.

We LOVE Dr. Cara Finn...she is knowledgeable, patient, understanding and a great eye care professional--easy to talk to. Also---we have had only great experiences with Janel in reception. She always has a smile when greeting us. Kayla was my optician when choosing my glasses and she was wonderful helping me pick out glasses that were more on the inexpensive side and quickly. My husband and I love the team there. You guys are doing a great job...thank you so much!!

Overall a very good experience. I was able to make an appointment online and got in quickly. I was even able to submit my info on their website so I didn't have to fill out forms when I got there. The lady at the front deck wasn't very friendly when I got there so that was a bad start. But everything else was great. The doctor was very nice and answered my questions about my contacts and getting laser surgery. The lady that measured my glasses was very nice and helpful. Although the front desk lady was a sourpuss, everything else was great. I recommend this eye place to anyone who lives in this part of town.

Wonderful company. I had an emergency last weekend when my daughter accidentally stepped on my glasses. I knew the glasses were beyond repair but thought I’d take my chances and bring them in to see what could be done. They indeed were beyond repair but the optician was able to make new glasses in 15 minutes! The facility is extremely clean and the staff showed nothing but friendliness. I will be returning.

I have had seen many eye doctors over the last 15 years and none have diagnosed the issue with eye alignment that gave me vertigo. This is the first one to diagnose the problem and the glasses have been a lifesaver! Couldn’t recommend them enough! Office is clean, friendly, and professional. It’s a busy office but I’ve never felt rushed making sure I get just the right lenses or frames.

Extremely overpriced! For kids glasses I was going to out for looked like $300 plus. Not so fast, I’ll shop around. I have pretty decent healthcare plan but only covered eye exam! The place is nice, but staff was meh. Judging them as whole 3 stars. The optometrist seemed bothered a bit. Why? Maybe end of day shut down, not sure but I was in impressed with my first impression here. Felt like nobody really wanted to be there vibe. My advice go early and don’t expect any happy vibes.

I had a great experience here; the online booking was easy, I got to fill out the forms online prior to my appointment, and the costs were outlined and presented to me beforehand in a simple and straightforward manner. My exam went smoothly and was very thorough / comprehensive. I never felt rushed and I felt like the doctor gave me her full attention during my appointment. She was extremely knowledgable and approachable; the front desk staff was super nice when I arrived and during the checkout process. The only issue I have had, at all, is with contacting the office and getting follow-up information. I emailed the front desk staff on three separate occasions, over the course of a month, and never got a reply. I even triple checked to make sure I was emailing the correct address. I called the office to request my prescription and mentioned that all my emails were going unanswered ... the woman on the phone completely brushed me off and told me that they were busy. Other than the email & communication issue, I have received great service here and recommend this facility!

Dr. Cara Finn deftly diagnosed an eye condition for which my primary care doctors couldn't help. She was very professional and competent, and put me at ease immediately about the root cause of my eye issues and a clear path forward to recovery. Positive experience! I've also gone to Family EyeCare for routine eye exams for glasses and contacts--experience has been smooth and they offer a great selection of high-end frames.

Dr. Handschumacher did something that no eye doctor EVER did for me! I work long days in front of a computer and have for year have worn contact lenses, but needed to put readers over them to see text on my computer monitors. So, even with contact lenses, I was wearing glasses over 10 hours a day! I've asked many, MANY eye doctors over the years if I could get a contact lens prescription that would enable be to work on the computer without glasses and wear glasses that do the reverse correction while driving. Every eye doctor I've ever asked this has told me NO... until Dr. Handschumacher. He said he was there to make my life better, and if I wanted to enjoy being glasses free while working, then he'd work with me to make it happen. I just can't tell you what a HUGE difference this has made in my life. I feel like 20 again!! If you are in the same situation as me, or if you have a vision need that you have been irritated by for years, then please consider my honest review and give Dr. Handschumacher a try! And, the staff is also a pleasure to work with!

Our insurance questions were answered and Mrs. Janelle placed orders for our contacts. We have been patients for 3 years and look forward to seeing her smiling face as we approach the desk. I have been getting the yearly eye exams for my family since 2014. However during our visit last year the front office staff seemed rude and indifferent. This year, I scheduled my son’s October appointment in August with Dr Handschumacher, and on the day of the appointment, 2.5 hours before the appointment I get a call from them saying that the doctor does not see kids that young!! After waiting for 2.5 months, they realized that my son was too young to be worth a checkup from the doctor!!! All this while I was waiting for an opinion from this doctor and this is what I got to know after so long...I could have scheduled with another doctor in my area and got his glasses fixed...!!! I am not recommending this place..

Good But Expensive. High quality staff and doctor performed thorough exams for me. I needed a new contact lens prescription and I received profession care. However I had to pay for it. A lot. Total for the exam, contact lens evaluation and 1 year of contacts was ~ $450 !! Insurance only covered less that half of that. I wish I was aware of the prices before I scheduled an appointment. : (

Horrible customer service. I have been a patient for 2 years. This time I forgot my card and could not pay the 25$ Copay. The nurse told that it is okay and I can pay it on my next visit. While leaving, I asked for the prescription and the lady upfront told me that they will not give it to me until I pay. They are afraid that me being a patient for 2 years will not come back to pay. After getting home and called them to pay, wanted to give them feedback that they should not have been rude to hold my prescription hostage, I would have paid. The customer service lady shut me up before I could continue and was very rude. I was not disrespectful or anything, just wanted to tell them that they should trust loyal patients. I do not get this business model. I think I delayed her lunch as she seemed rushed and told me that they are closing for lunch. I can tell you for sure that they lost my business. Funny how they do not provide the prescription until I pay. However after I paid they never sent me the prescription and had to call them back to send it to me. The same person picked up the phone and rudely said that my prescription was attached to my receipt, which clearly was not. She then sent it eventually.

After completing a survey discovered through a WRAL story on meterologist Mike Maze and his experiences/successes at Family Eyecare Center, I promptly received a call that my score on the survey indicated a need for an appointment with Dr. Handschumacher for possible binocular vision dysfunction. Although there was more than a 2-month wait for an appointment, I proceeded and was impressed on my first visit. My conversations with Janel and one other office staffer were positive by phone and in person prior to and during my first appointment. Even though Dr. Handschumacher's evaluation did not result in a diagnosis for binocular vision dysfunction, he wanted me to try different contact lenses from what I was using. I did and found them ineffective; consequently, I called and spoke to Janel before my 2nd appointment, told her the contacts weren't working for me, and explained that I didn't want to come in for a 2nd appointment if they would be charging my specialist copay--I already had an optometrist near my residence and was a satisfied patient of that practice. Janel assured me that there would be no copay charge for follow-up visits for the contacts (acknowledging that I was not being treated for binocular vision dysfunction). She assured me that I would be permitted to come as many times as necessary to get the contacts right and would not have any additional copay charges. Thus, I went to the 2nd appointment; Dr. Handschumacher reiterated that I was not a binocular vision dysfunction patient. He tested other contacts and, in the end, told me that my contacts I had been using prior to visiting him were the proper prescription. When I went to the counter, I was told my charge for the day would be $85, my specialist copay! Immediately, I told the staff member that Janel told me before I came for the follow-up contacts appt. that there would be no charge. The woman assisting me had me wait to speak to Janel, who came to the counter and informed me that there would be an $85 copay. I reminded her of our previous phone conversation and told her that I definitely would not have come for a 2nd appt. had I been told there would be a charge. Her previously kind demeanor became quickly defensive. She told me--in obvious frustration--that she would take care of it. To no surprise really, over 3 months later, I received a statement dated November 9, 2018, showing a balance due of $85. For starters, I had paid the required $150 to get on their schedule for the binocular vision dysfunction evaluation. I also provided an $85 specialist copay following the first visit. Thus, the $85 I just now paid for the November statement means I paid $320 out of pocket to be told I'm not a binocular vision dysfunction patient. My insurance also has paid this practice. I'm sure Dr. Handschumacher and staff have coded the two visits in a way to meet insurance regulations. While I clearly made a choice to make the initial appointment after the survey results said I may be a candidate for treatment for binocular vision dysfunction, there is an apparent lack of intergrity when it comes to charges for my follow-up visit. It appears that the Mike Maze story and the online survey are being used to get patients into the office for evaluations and subsequent charges. I did not need a new optometrist but trusted Dr. Handschumacher to assist with my treatment based on his binocular vision dysfunction evaluation. My frustration with paying the additional $85 copay is surpassed by my disappointment in the practice's lack of integrity. Beware!

Janelle is awesome, she has really been instrumental in keeping me and my family going there even though we moved out of town. She always treats me and my family like we are important and that means so much! Dr Handshumacher is an excellent doctor and we just met the new female eye doctor there who was very friendly and super nice!

Great place! Prices are typical compared to other offices. Eye exam was thorough. I was offered an alternative to pupil dilation, but it wasn’t a sales pitch. When I mentioned that I would like my prescription sunglasses within a certain amount of time, I received them well within the time constraints and plenty of time if an adjustment was needed. Gavin was terrific at educating me on other’s experiences with prescription sunglasses that I was unaware of. I have been wearing glasses for ~15years. For the longest time, I have accepted subpar service. As I get older, I realize I don’t have to settle. This is the first 100% satisfied experience I have had. Thanks guys!

I am NOT recommending this place either !! My father is a Veteran and he was treated poorly and was charged $ 205.00. Office personal was rude and not helpful when I questioned her. He had a referral from the Vets administration and they charged him anyway ! What a Scam !!

Awesome eye place! Very nice employees and very thorough doctor. Loved the fact that I was able to make an appointment on line. When I got to the office, I gave the lady my insurance card. Turned out wasn’t the right card, so she looked on her computer for my information and was able to find my insurance when I told her where my husband worked. I was able to use my insurance to get my exam and contacts. Since I also wanted glasses, they we able to give me a discount and I was able to get those to. To top it off, they were able to make my glasses while I waited and they’re going to mail my contacts to me for Free! I would Highly recoded this eye place!!

My husband made an appointments for himself and our 12 year old son for eye exams. When he initially called to make the appt. he mentioned we had Spectera Vision Insurance the front office told him they will check his coverage once they arrived. I asked my husband to call this morning and check. I didn’t want any surprise's. He spoke to Daisy and she told him my son’s contacts exam was not covered and it would be 130$. Contrary to what we where told by our ins. company So we called our ins. and yes we confirmed that this office was contracted and yes we only had a $10 co-pay for our son’s exam. We had our insurance carrier call family eye care center and they spoke to Daisy she told the insurance that no they where not contracted, but our Ins. showed them as contracted. That was a whole waste of time for everybody. I give 1 star Because of the lack of ins. knowledge by the staff and the office was some what rude, short toward my husband and our ins. rep. Our insurance rep suggested we go else where and provided us with other Dr’s Luckily they got in this afternoon at My Eye Dr on six forks. Eye exams complete co-pay 10$ each. Rx in our hands out the door.

I first visited Family EyeCarr Center the first year they opened and a few years after moving to Raleigh. I had been to a few other eye doctors prior and wasn’t impressed with the level of care getting the feeling they where eyeglass factories. When I had my first appointment with Doctor H I noticed the difference right away and got the feeling that he cared about his and his staffs level of service. I can not recommend him and his staff high enough.

If you are having eye problems this is the place to come. I suffered a torn cornea and it was very scary and painful to not know what was happening to my sight. However Dr. Finn and her front office staff were amazing to work with. I felt taken care of from the moment I walked in the door. I was even offered a seat in the back to reduce light and pain by Mrs. J! She cool and courteous.

I scratched my eye and called Family EyeCare Center not even sure they could help me. Janel (I believe?) answered my call and was friendly, kind, and asked the right questions about what happened and insurance and the like. I had actually called one place before here and they were pretty apathetic, so this was a 180 from that. She was able to get me in right away and after talking with her, I felt very comfortable going in. Minimal wait once I was there. Dr. Handschumacher was great - thoroughly explained everything going on and the options, made sure I understood, and got my eye feeling a lot better in short time. I really appreciate you all helping me out in a pinch. I was a first-time patient, but I will be back. Thanks!

Excellent staff, wonderful experience, and knowledgeable. I have been suffering from dizziness for several months now and thought it might have something to do with my eyes. I reached out to Dr. Handschumacher for guidance based on some Google searches. By the hour he had already reached out to me. I am very grateful for him agreeing to meet on the weekend and putting me through a battery of tests to help provide relief of my symptoms. He spent several hours treating me and answered all my questions. Definitely, recommend.

Horrible customer service and unprofessional staff. I had a yearly check up and purchased 2 pair of glasses. To start they stuck me with a trainee that didn’t know the equipment so I sat in a machine for over 20 mins with no results. Not a big deal. Then I had to get my eyes dilated and waited around to be seen by the doctor again 20 mins past the time I was told. That’s fine. I then finish the process by purchasing my glasses from a very unprofessional employee who didn’t enter what I ordered correctly and so I had to wait around another 30 plus mins for the receptionist and this guy to get it right. Still I waited didn’t get upset. Over 2 and a half hours later I finally get to leave. It was seriously the worst eye doctor visit I have ever had. But what really made me mad was that I was told my glasses and sunglasses would be in by the 22nd and they weren’t ready. I called to check on them and was told that someone would follow up. No one ever did until late on the 31st. Now I’m mad and cannot get my glasses since I’m on vacation. Someone not having sunglasses or their normal glasses is a big deal when you cannot see well. And even with insurance I still paid a big chunk on this. I expressed my frustrations with the women on the phone with NO call back from management. I should have been treated better. Never again. Too many eye doctors in Raleigh to settle on this place.
