Semi longform account follows: I had a (second) biopsy of a basal cell that was taken by a dermatologist on Park Avenue who was out of network and couldn't provide adequate follow up. She also failed to inform me that it was unlikely to heal but didn't report back to my primary or assist me in finding a surgeon who could perform MOHS. Short 2 weeks later it was grotesquely infected and I was scrambling. Without a referral, I booked an appointment at the MDCS 820 2nd Ave through a lookup of dermatology centers covered by my insurance plan. I arrived completely unprepared and without a referral. Nas at the front desk was a superstar. She was patient and understanding of my situation. Together we were able to get a referral from my insurance provider (not my primary care doctor), then the results from the other dermatologist, etc until they ushered me right through and into a MOHS procedure almost within 2 hours of arriving. The staff working alongside Dr's Engelman and Amin were all professional, kind and helpful. Seems like a great place to work for up and comers looking for a learning environment. Most grateful for the care. 5 stars pending... ;-)

Dr. Cossaro was very professional, kind, attentive and warm. The only thing I felt uncomfortable about was having other representatives from the office in exam room while she was evaluating my condition. I know I was initially asked if I felt comfortable but I was apprehensive about responding no due to being put on the spot and perhaps offending the other health care professionals. Certainly I was willing for Dr. Cossaro to conduct an exam. Overall my visit was a pleasant experience and I would like to reschedule with Dr. Cossaro to be reevaluated.

I am a new patient that had a appt for the following week, I ran into an issue and my primary Dr. told me to call my dermatologist. I called Dr Ma's office on the Friday before Christmas. They were getting ready to close but told me to come right in. Dr. Ma helped me, did not rush. Thanks to her and her staff I was able to enjoy my Christmas. They were wonderful from the young lady who answered the phone to Dr. Ma and her assistant. I am so glad that I was told about her from a friend. I already started refferring friends and family here. My only complaint is that the doctor request a follow up appointment to see me for the last two weeks and I’m charged my copay so it’s cost me $60 for the last two weeks. A follow up appointment should not require a copay.

I see Dr. Amin twice a year for a skin check. I have very light skin, and even though I follow his advice and wear SPF daily, the sun always finds me. I know Dr. Amin treats patients with skin cancer, and I feel good knowing that he is not only working with me to try to prevent damage to my skin, but also that he is there and able to help me in case something more serious arises. Manhattan Dermatology also offers a variety of laser treatments, which I like because I suffer with psoriasis. The Xtrac laser has been very helpful in eliviating this. The entire staff seems friendly and helpful and my office visits have always been informative and pleasant.

This place is the most impersonal and awful practice I've ever visited in my life...I'll get right to it: 1 - They use no less than four different electronic systems to manage their patients: Athenahealth, Klara, Phreesia, and PatientPop. All four cover different aspects (e.g. front office staff communications, check in, messages from specialists, etc.), but none of them are at all interconnected. What that means is that before, after, and even DURING your visit, be prepared to be BESIEGED by completely unrelated and annoying text messages and emails from every direction. I'm all for electronics but at some point it just becomes too much. 2 - I arrived for a routine visit/checkup about 10-15 minutes before my scheduled appointment time, completed a five minute questionnaire, and sat for almost 40 minutes before I saw Dr. Amin, so he was 30 minutes late to my very first appointment. Let me make something very clear...I AM THE CLIENT. I am paying for the visit...YOU WORK FOR ME. Dr. Amin is the co-founder of this factory practice and showed up almost a half hour late to an appointment that was scheduled well in advance. What kind of bar does that set for the rest of the practitioners here? 3 - Interns are everywhere. Carrying laptops, running around like little students in what should be a professional practice. I specifically scheduled an appointment with Dr. Amin, and he was the only one in the room for the visit. After a very rushed, 15 minute visit, I sent a follow up message to HIM, and the response I received two days later was laden with typos and clearly not from him at all. I replied back since clearly my message was incorrectly routed (after all, I selected Dr. Amin from the drop down), and still have no response. So in summary: 30 minutes late to first appointment, failed to reply to two very direct (and very short) follow up messages. No thanks. Maybe I'm spoiled by all the nice folks at One Medical group for my primary care, the direct access to doctors (via email, in the rare instance it's needed), on-time appointments, and the ONE app that they use that manages everything. There are way too many other good practices out there to waste any more time at Manhattan Dermatology and Cosmetics Surgery.
