REVIEWS OF New Mexico Heart Institute IN New Mexico

Made an appointment for a heart scan even though my insurance didn’t cover it. They wanted my insurance information even though I was paying out of pocket. Got the scan three weeks ago and still no results. The process has multiple problems so don’t expect much. I just had a conversation asking how come my results weren’t sent to my doctor and they even screwed that up saying that they didn’t send it because I didn’t ask for it when I did and I gave their information they needed absolutely the worst experience I’ve had. Update I guess they read my review because they deleted my patient portal account. Do not trust this “institution “.

Excellent care, knowledgeable staff. My mom has been treated in several different heart facilities on the East Coast including Miami which was excellent but the NMHI is the best facility in which she has received care.

Went to the ER @ for an X-RAY of my ankle, and found it was broken from a fall after syncope episode. The ER doctor was not comfortable releasing me due to several other concerns. This was my second stay at the Heart Hospital; both times the care was excellent. All rooms are private, so you really do have the ability to rest. As always, Dr. Mazer is decisive and clear with treatment and explanations of treatment. He is a GREAT doc! I have lived here for nearly 50 years and always gotten good care from Presbyterian, but I will now always choose the Heart Hospital because the doctor on staff (Dr. Rosenblum) prescribed the solution to my extremely high blood pressure, which has been uncontrolled for over 20 yrs. Additionally, the comfort of the beds, the quiet, and the always quick response from nurses or techs is just a level above and the comfort level of my family is higher as well.

At 9:00 am on 9-4-19, My Doctor faxed to NMHI the request for a Z01.818 Encounter for other preprocedural examination - EKG. I called NMHI at 2:30 in the afternoon asking to schedule the appointment for the EKG. They claimed they had not received the fax. I called my doctor and my doctor resent the fax at 3:00 pm with confirmation of receipt. The automatic receipt came thru at 3:01 pm. I called again at 3:15 p.m. once again NMHI claimed they had not received the fax. The heart institute said they would call me the following day after they had time to sort through the faxes. By 1:00 pm in the afternoon on the 5th of September I had not heard from NMHI so I called to set up a schedule for the EKG. Once again The institute said they never received the fax. On September 14th NMHI finally called to schedule the EKG they were supposed to perform the week of 9/4. To late. My doctor had already faxed the Pre-op EKG request to Presbyterian earlier and they performed the EKG the next day. I will always trust Presbyterian hospital. I am sure NMHeart Institute has good doctors and nurses however their current administration staff lacks even simple organization structure which will preclude any trust of NMHI's ability to perform.

Could not believe what I saw and heard, one of the employees in the nuclear dept was doing an IV because she was still drunk from the previous night! I will report this to my insurance carrier, I was horrified about my care...

Dr. Bujoi is the best! I love her caring attitude! If you need a cardiologist, ask for her!

The emergency treatment was wonderful. Efficient and caring. Follow up not so great. Dr. was nice but not informative. But! The biggest concern is phone calls. There is only one number for all services. If there is a wait /hold (always) they offer a call back within one hour. The first call was never returned. The second has not been returned after 24 hours. Still waiting.

Rex Miller

The wait time to get medical tests such as heart echograms or stress tests can take several months. That has been my experience. Even the VA acts faster than this. Maybe they have a shortage of trained specialists but the wait time for doctor ordered tests is the worst I've seen. Once you do get an appointment they might cancel it and re-schedule. That has happened to me 2x in the past nine months. This area needs a lot of work to improve for the benefit of patients.

Dr. Henao and Dr. Bestawros are responsible for my being alive to write these notes. Henao removed two anuirisms in my legs and provides stints, and fixed the blockage in my carotid artery ( not at the same time, thank you). Bestawros put in my pacemaker which has undoubtedly kept me from the last sleep. Staff were very good to me. Now I need to add that not every contact with the Heart Institute went well. I was due for followup and because their system couldn't book "so far in advance", nor could they supply so much as a postcard, I ended being behind my review by some 7 months. Did I forget to call? Probably, but they have a staff, I don't (anymore). Plus a 7 month delay is a bit more punishment than I believe deserved. At least my eye Dr. sends postcards. Not hard for a multimillion dollar enterprise. They also kept me flat for more than 48 hours when I was in for what was to have been an overnight, was torture to me due to closing my throat. It was for testing. Frankly I am quite confident this was only required due to not thinking through by one of the Dr's and one nurse. I won't have that approved by me again. Later, a simpler test (took only a few minutes and did not require flatness) gave better data, so far as I know. Just the same, undoubtedly a wonderful place when you or your loved one needs the care.

Excelant!! Dr Sean Mazer, the BEST you can find.

First time with Dr. Bestawros. World Class experience. Answered all questions, caring, and seems to know the difference between a heart and a rectum so that's a plus! Good Doctor working within a great system of employees and organization HIGHLY recommend them!

Cannot get the Dr to respond to my questions concerning my problem. Completely ignore my questions. Seems to not care about meeting my needs as far as my care. I would not recommend using this facility. Questions to him via the patient portal do not work.

It’s too bad you guys don’t know how to keep appointments. You can’t just schedule an appointment with a patient who really needs tests done, then cancel on them when they walk in the door. Don’t you realize these tests are literally a matter of life or death? When did you guys go down the crapper with your patient care? Imagine if it was one of your family members needing tests for a life threatening blockage!? How insensitive can you be? When did human life become so unimportant to you??? If anything at all happens to my husband between now and the time he gets another app I will personally slap a lawsuit on you. We have the phone recording which proves you all confirmed today’s appointment with him.

UPDATE: Got call back from Supervisor, got all sorts of excuses of who elses responsibility it was instead of help. I am now filing this with Medicaid Fraud and Elder Abuse; State of NM AG Office. ****** I received 5 calls from NMHI. I called back as it seemed serious. They took credit for 1 stating they were trying to get BCBS, I asked, "you do know I am not BCBS?" My partner had been trying to reach them for an answer to his medication for days with no answer. I called back and asked for Manager ... Manager cannot talk to me, will call back" Then they tell my partner "I just got it today" He told them "I want NO excuses, this is life necessary and it should not take days" She told told him, "I cant help it if it is a wrong number" again he tells her "I said I want NO excuses". When he made the calls into NMHI, he was asked 'What is the best number to call you at?' He gave them our landline, so they cannot even read records?! Be Careful! Very Careful! I was with ONE Doctor, he spent 5 minutes with me then said "You have no heart murmur, you have never had a heart attack", Then before my implant at Christus ST Vincent, they did nuclear stress testing and a chem stress echo then the anesthesiologist told me, "We found the old hear attack of 2004 and you have a heart murmur in two heart valves" .... Be Careful! Very Careful, and NEVER take just a blanket statement from ANY of their Doctors, Advocate for yourself and those you love!

Diane Braun

I have been a patient of NMHI for 4 years now, and whether I need cardiacs attention or my routine 6 weeks PT/INR blood works, I have always received the best service ever.

Deeply disappointed! Sloppy job from the beginning. A secretary at registry put a wrong birthday (mixed the years 1962 and 1926), the doctor didn't bother himself to ask pt even to rate a pain, didn't explain EKG (commented "OK"), the basic labs were ordered only after consistent requests from pt, a stress test was scheduled in 1.5 month (if you are still alive) ..

I wwnt in was told my cost for my doctor visit and paid it.Then. I was informed the doctor couldnt see me because i had an outstanding bill.i told her the alovelace office was working on getting me covered for that. She told me if i didnt pay i wouldnt be able to see the doctor.i was paying the cost of appt.with that doctor.i told her cancel my appt. And refund my payment. The appt. Was 345.00 i paid for it but dont have a bill or theyll shake you down for your life.Really a heartless tactic.

Teri Carlson

Best care, good docs and caring staff

Elizabeth Hess

Accurate and helpful staff

Lisa Parson

Jim Berry

Arrogant, obnoxious, poorly prepared ESPECIALLY Karen Sopko, M.D. and her entire staff. An embarrassment, really, confusing self-importance and condescension with good quality medical care. For the most part, unsafe at any speed. Takes forever to be seen and the communication and follow through is very bad. One "professional" I saw was blowing bubbles with bubble gum and wearing shorts, among other things. Compared to cardiac care I received in another city, pitiful. A 1 star out of 10.

Denise Bailey

I had a wonderful experience. They took really good care of my brother and made us both feel secure with the care they provided. Great place!!!

Say Thank You. Try it.

I got a phone call to make my annual appt. at Nm heart institute 7 days ago, I have called many times every day since excluding sat &sun I usually have 20 callers ahead of me. I hope their doctors are better than their phone service.

Carlos Lucero

Great staff and very organized. I had a recent follow up visit with Diana Kaufman and she was awesome. Absolutely sweet and down to earth. It really helps when your provider makes you feel like a friend and what you have to say is important. That's exactly how she made me feel. This place should be a model for how a doctors office should be ran.

Sean Winthrop

Sad to think the providers here honestly don’t care. Or listen to what you have to honestly say. It’s annoying as can be when you request a test, or exam and the paper gets lost. And then you have to spend about 3 hours waiting for them to get there heads out of there butts to send the correct papers to the xray place. And they swear up and down everything is NORMAL yet i’m still having issues. Which I’m sure isn’t true because isn’t the first time I’ve been treated like trash within lovelace. Y’all need to learn how to respect patients instead of drain insurance.

Nicole Fitzgerald

Fantastic Doctors and nurses they are polite and respectful to all there patients.

Connie Gurrola

DL Lewis

The staff was excellent! I was made to feel quite comfortable for my Left and Right Heart Cath. Dr. Raymond Yau very knowledgeable, and engaging. Dr. Mel Peralta no words:). I highly recommend NMHI and NMHH!

Alexis Sandoval

Great work and willingness to help and solve the issue. 4 stars because I was asked to reschedule twice by the doctor which put me back a month.
