As a patient advocate, I help patients navigate health care situations. Often this involves finding a provider that can see a patient in a timely manner, which is the type of situation that led us to High Desert Dermatology today. Unfortunately the patient has an insurance plan with a very weak provider network, and finding a dermatologist "in network" meant waiting 7 months for treatment. We chose time over money and decided to schedule an appointment as "self pay" at the time of service. Within less than one week we were establishing as a new patient and receiving a brief procedure. The office staff and medical practitioners were great. Even though their clinic did not accept the patient's insurance, they took the extra time to arrange for a pathologist that took the insurance. From there, the bill for a new patient office visit and the minor procedure was less than half what we had anticipated. In American medicine today we are conditioned to be afraid of "self pay" as consumers approaching the unknown. This time was a good experience all the way around. The patient is changing insurance next year, and will be an established patient with the practice before then. For just a few hundred dollars and about 45 minutes in the clinic, it's a done deal behind us now. I am very pleased with the care we received today, and grateful to the staff of High Desert Dermatology

Less than impressed. I submitted a "Contact Us" online request via HDD's website for the estimated cost of an initial consultation/evaluation of a common dermatological concern. A receptionist, who quickly replied to my request via email, appropriately suggested that I consult with my insurance provider to determine what my insurance would cover. After doing so I followed up with the receptionist via email, noting that per my plan I would pay 100% of any initial consultation/evaluation fees out-of-pocket, and again requested an estimate of related costs. I have received no related response and, after several days, assume I no longer should expect to.

Horrible customer service. The doctor did not let me know freezing off an age spot would be billed to my insurance as a "surgery" which I was billed $200 for. I called for clarification and the receptionist was extremely rude, when I told her I wanted to talk to her manager she hung up on me, 4 times! I finally got through to the managers voicemail by requesting to speak with a nurse, the manager never called back. I will be taking my business elsewhere and warning anyone I know to stay away from this office.

I had an appointment today to see a PA. I arrived 10 minutes late (anyone know a doctor who isn't late?), processed, filled in paperwork, paid copay, etc. and waited awhile. I saw one patient who had come in announcing he was over an hour early for his appt and was taken in shortly after his arrival. Eventually, the staff person called me up to tell me they would not honor the appt because I was "over 15 min late." I had already told her (and it was apparent) that I sick, had flown in late the night before, they are quite far to drive in unexpectedly rainy conditions, and had apologized for my late arrival (not 15 min, however). No slack. No compassion. I rescheduled but have now cancelled it. No clue if the medical services are any good, but I don't want to deal with an office that will not accommodate a 10 minute late arrival, given the circumstances. I should add, I am always very prompt; this was an exception due to these circumstances.

I saw Stephanie for a mark on my hand that several doctors had attempted to treat with various creams and no one seemed to know what it was... Stephanie walked in and told me immediately what it was and how to treat it. She was really nice and friendly, and she provided me instant relief in knowing that it was not something serious!

Disappointed. Went for my first appt. They lspent a total of 10 mins with me. Also bought a groupon for laser hair removal. Even called before buying the groupon to ask about their scheduling, then they changed the whole schedule around. Very minimal appointment times. Wouldn't reccomend.

I work in the healthcare field, and I have yet to see such a negative attitude. I went to get coffee at the Starbucks next door after my "appointment", and two different elderly couples were discussing how they were mistreated. I will not return. We do have a shortage in dermatologists in New Mexico, but there is no excuse for such treatment. I should have read the negative the reviews, they are consistent with my experience.

I planned on paying out of pocket for my initial visit recently. I asked for a quote, and was given one for $214.00 which was fine with me. After my appointment, I was ready to pay the $214 plus tax. ..that didn't happen. They didn't tell me there was going to be a $129 office visit, so my total went from $214 to $333. I told them three times that I was never quoted that. I had no knowledge of an office visit charge. No one said a word when I told them no one quoted me that. They kept their heads down and ran my credit card. I will never go to them again and I will most definitely tell others about this experience!

DO NOT GO HERE! Sure sometimes they are nice. Until they are not. I have been a regular and loyal customer for years. I have a high deductible and had made payment arrangement that I was not only honoring, but exceeding. Out of the blue I suddenly was put into collections with no warning at all. After 3 days of multiple messages I had to demand to talk to someone who said they sent me an invoice TEN MONTHS AGO! When I explained that I had an arrangement after then and that I have been paying double on, they said too bad and were incredibly rude. They will eventually treat you terrible here. They not only lost my business but all of my family, however I'm sure they don't care

Sketchy billing practices. My wife went in for a purely preventative check-up, but we were billed for a full office visit. We asked why that was, and were told that "we never bill for a preventative check up". I can only assume it is because they get more money billing for a full office visit instead. So, instead of being 100% covered by our insurance, we are getting a large out of pocket payment as well. So, if your medical insurance covers preventative care with no co-pay, steer well clear of High Desert Dermatology, in their mind nothing is preventative.

I love this place. I first went in two years ago, when I noticed a new mole on my neck. Dr. Stephanie was very kind, professional, and reassuring. I recently had another concern with my skin and went back. The receptionists were very polite, cheerful, and kind. The nurse (I didn't get her name) was also very kind and helpful, as was Dr. Stephanie. I have decided to use this office for annual skin exams, and anything else I may need in the future. I highly recommend them, especially Dr. Stephanie!

Dr. Carey and staff are IMPRESSIVE! So thankful to have access to this level of care. Very thorough, efficient and above all, knowledgeable.

The doctors are amazing and the staff are great. Warning!!! you do have to prepare yourself to deal with the receptionist. I’m so surprised this office has someone that rude, unprofessional and just plain snarky as the woman at the front desk. She was so rude when I checked in, I almost walked out. And frankly there was no reason, I’ve never met this lady before and I was on time. However, I’m glad I didn’t- the doctors are so awesome. But brace yourselves that receptionist is awful!

Credit Karma says this place just hit me with a bill. Would have loved to know this 10 months ago when I was actually a patient! Billing seems to be a recurring problem with these people.

All the negative comments about this place are TRUE. Rude staff from receptionists to medical assistants. I have been going there for the past few months and the rudeness and unprofessionalism at this place never fall short. Poor customer service. Care is not what you will receive there. While the Physician assistants I have seen have been kind and professional, I only spent maybe 10 minutes with them. The rest of the time I was served with rudeness, lack of care and unprofessionalism from the rest of the staff every time I went there. You are required to pay before you are seen, yet you get bombarded with phone calls asking for payments already made. They are not organized, overall this is a horrible place!
