I was a patient of Dr. Welt's as a teenager until my early 20s. I always felt EXTREMELY uncomfortable during appointments. Beyond that, he ignored me for years when I continually told him about a problem. I told him about this problem at every appointment, and he always brushed it off, not listening to me and not taking it seriously (SPOILER ALERT: what he brushed off turned out to be symptoms of a serious medical condition that impacts my entire health.) After I kept telling him about the issue, he finally, reluctantly, prescribed me birth control pills without conducting ANY TESTS. This was just putting a band-aid over the real problem. To be frank--it was just a lazy response to my complaint without doing any of the real work to pinpoint and address the problem. It only felt like he did it because I kept insisting there was something wrong.
It literally took at least four years, probably closer to 5 (I started seeing him when I was about 16 or 17, wasn't diagnosed until I was 23) for him to finally take what I was saying seriously, run tests, and give me a diagnosis. By then, I already had complications because my condition had gone undiagnosed and untreated for years (despite me continuing to tell Dr. Welt about the issue). Complications I'm still dealing with today.
For a doctor who specializes in women's health, Dr. Welt is terrible at actually listening to women and addressing their concerns and health. If you are considering this doctor, I whole-heartedly encourage you to choose another who will listen to you, take your concerns seriously, and give you the care you deserve. It doesn't matter how old you are--you deserve to be heard, taken seriously, and have your health managed correctly!
I wish that I had control of my healthcare (insurance, etc) as a teen and very young adult--I would have stopped seeing Dr. Welt years before I actually did.
