I never review places but I feel the need to here... I wish I would have read some of these reviews prior to making an appointment. I was 7 min late arriving to my appt this morning and they would not see me and wanted me to reschedule claiming that I should have been there 15min prior to my appt so I was actually 22min late. I admit I was late I apologized when I walked in and they were unforgiving. I also work off a schedule and always honor under 10min being late. I would have been right on time when I pulled in the parking lot my daughter had gotten sick in the back seat so I spent 6 min cleaning it up.

Very upsetting !!!I will never recommend anyone use this office....... my daughter and I both had Dermatology appointments this morning one at 9:20 and 9:50 I was called and informed about 7:30 that the physician called out for the day they were unable to accommodate.....mmy schedule is very tight my daughter is a senior in high school she's taking tests all month..... I had to fight tooth and nail to get this appointment for them to cancel on us..... I understand that people get sick and the physician may not have been well today however there should have been some type of alternate plan for the patients.... they were unable to accommodate us in rescheduling a good time for us to come in I explained to them that my daughter has a severe skin issue I need to be rescheduled ASAP they were unable to accommodate that very dissatisfied very distasteful.... my daughter and I would have been new patients but I will never use this doctor's office this office doesn't even deserve a one because they wasn't even able to see us I guess I'll be taking my daughter to urgent care this morning

Horrible service on the medical side. Lazy doctor misdiagnosed my wife, then billed us for it... all while blaming my wife. No blame needed had they done the very simple test that was done in less than 5 min on the second visit.

I have been a long time patient of this particular Dermatology office and I would have to say they are the best around. Not only is their staff wonderful and pleasant but they really give the best care to their patients. I have reccommended MANY people to Lees Summit Dermatology. As I have read in previous reviews I would like to say that the front desk is not rude or unsensative and Dr McEwen has a great bedside manner. I would like to think that these particular people who had such an unpleasant expierence was just having a bad day themselves and misunderstood any of the office staffs intentions.

I recently visited Lees Summit Dermatology for a skin condition. The front desk receptionist were very professional and helpful. I applaud the front desk with some of the issues I overheard them having to deal with a upset patient yelling at the staff due to the lack of the individual not having their insurance card, plain and simple carry it on you all the time, do you go to the grocery store with out your debit card or check book and expect to get your groceries with out payment.... umm I think Not!! Once I got back into the exam room and seen Dr. McEwen he is by far the most caring, knowledgeable and compassionate Doctor. I have ever encountered. He explained my diagnosis in great detail, his nursing staff was AMAZING, polite and helpful. I would highly recommend this office for your all your skin care needs.

I went for a consultation for a mole removal from my chin. It was not medically necessary per the consult and I knew it was not an issue, I just decided I didn't like it on my chin anymore. I was quoted $149 for the removal. Not bad I thought, so six weeks later when I finally get in for the removal the Dr apparently decides that it is all of a sudden medically necessary and decides it can't be shaven off it needs to be cut off. He explains this and I decide to proceed. BUT WHAT HE DID NOT EXPLAIN was that the procedure would be 6 times the cost now!!! WELL by "agreeing" for Dr to cut it off instead of shave it off makes it a MUCH MICH higher priced procedure- 6 times as much as my quote. If someone had took the time and courtesty to explain this, it is highly probable I would have changed my mind as the $149 quote just landed me a significantly higher bill! I am beyond frustrated with the process and the staff that I have dealt with. Office manager calls and says nothing they can do its my word against the doctors and too bad! Will NEVER use this group again nor will I refer anyone I know! Ridiculous, this was a bait and switch on a patient that simply wanted a small mole removed from my chin that was just a "simple mole, easy to remove, no suspicious margins" per the consult!

Debbie Parsons

Highly recommend Lees Summit Dermatology for all your skin care concerns! I have been a patient of Amber Kunshek for years and she is wonderful! Very professional and has done my mole checks for the last 6-7 years. The Medspa (Tammy Witt) and all the ladies are great and love all their spa treatments!!

Have been in medical field for years and have to say this is the most well run office I have seen. Most patients don't understand the rules and regulations that are imposed on doctor's offices by the government and become upset when asked to adhere to these rules and policies. This office makes sure these federally required regulations are adhered to in a kind and confident manner and in a way patients can understand. My diagnosis and treatment was spot on. The office was clean and the providers and staff very caring.

Becca Mahoney

My daughter and I have had several appointments with Lee's Summit Dermatology. The entire staff is very friendly and professional. We saw Dr. Kunshek for all of our visits and I felt as though she listened to our concerns before treating our problems. I had a place on my face that was pre-cancerous and I voiced a concern about having it froze off because of the pain. Dr. Kunshek gave me some samples to try instead and they have worked. My daughter saw Dr. Kunshek about her acne. Dr. Kunshek was very thorough about the products she should an should not use and after trying a few things her acne has cleared up. Although I have never had an appointment with Dr. McEwen, I know many people who have. I have only heard positive things about him and his practice.

Lees Summit Dermatology has some of the BEST Dermatologists and Nurse practitioners in the Kansas City area and understand there may be long waits prior to being seen. The front office staff was very kind and the check in process went pretty smooth, it helped speed check in time since I arrived early with all my paperwork complete with a current insurance card. They do have their systems organized and are very knowledgable and provide treatment in a very professional, efficient, and kind manner which makes me very pleased with the services I have received at this office. I have seen Taryne Hensley many times for several skin concerns, she takes the time to explain my diagnosis and writes out a treatment plan that I can understand. She goes above and beyond to make sure that when I leave all questions and concerns are addressed. I'm impressed with the results from treatment received and will recommend this office to others. Thank you Lees Summit dermatology !!

Freda Sawyer

I have been treated with excellent customer service every time I have visited. The staff is also quite knowledgeable of products and is helpful in their recommendation for the appropriate skin care for your needs. There is a reason they book up so fast! If you want an appointment, call a few weeks ahead!

Amy Anderson

I'm a long time patient of Dr. McEwen's as well as some of the nurse practitioners at the office. They all given my family excellent care. Early on I had some precancerous moles removed, but eventually I had a melanoma removed that they caught early. As my children have grown into teens, we've also dealt with some acne issues. The practice has been extremely helpful with this. I'm thankful for such a skilled, clean, and friendly environment where we can have our varied skin needs addressed with confidence.

Lyn Winburn

Wonderful office with excellently trained providers and staff. They have a variety of cosmetic procedures available and I love the products they carry. I have been a patient at this office for years and would highly recommend them.

Cheryl Porter

I will not go back to this office again. I went in to have some new moles looked at that kept becoming red and irritated. Taryne was rushed, said they were fine and that nothing needed to be done. I told her I would like them removed so I don't have to worry about them. She sprayed one well with liquid nitrogen and headed for the door. When I asked her about the other, she said my insurance might not pay for it, and tried to leave again. I said I wanted it treated as well, (who wants an unsightly mole on their jaw) and she was visibly miffed. She barely sprayed the second one (compared to the other of equal size) and headed out the door. I knew it wasn't going work but didn't want to confront her. I thought if it didn't remove it, they would have the integrity to retreat it but I was wrong. When I called back she said that it doesn't always work and that I would have to pay again. If she would have done what she should have, and it didn't work, I would agree but she purposefully did an inadequate job. The mole didn't turn white or scab over like the other. It seems they are more interested in raking in the bucks than doing what's best for the patient.

A. W.

Unimpressed. Front desk was great upon calling and check in. When they offer you a 10 min appointment (red flag) they are not kidding. I felt rushed the entire time. The nurse practitioner talked over me and had literally no advice for my skincare needs other than Retinol in the future (this was her answer for every issue I had, also). No knowledge of over the counter things to try (which was fine, I get that) or even SKINCARE BASICS. (Sorry, shouldn't she at least know about that?) I felt I had to pry answers out of her and she asked me if I wanted to try an option of 3 products (with zero explanation of what they even were). I strongly feel I would have been better off going to an aesthetician (that being said, they have a Medspa type deal they are directly associated with...wouldn't she at least recommend I try them for more info?) Nope, didn't seem to care much. Unfortunately, left feeling like all I had accomplished was wasting time taken off work. Won't be returning.

Needed a dermatologist went online and found this place. Called to make an appointment and was on hold for over 21 minutes before I hung up. Ridiculous!

Michael Tierney

Drove over a hour from my school for this appointment. I got stuck in traffic because of a wreck on the highway, and I showed up 20 minutes late. I tried to explain this to them but they didn’t care and rescheduled me 2 months later. I called them in July waited til November then get told to wait another 2 months for something I can’t control absolutely ridiculous I will never be going here again!

Mark Boeh

I've been complaining to different doctors for years, and they all dismissed my issue. They really listened and my problem is finally solved. Thank you so much.

Chris Hasley

I wanted to take a moment and leave a review for Lee's Summit Dermatology Associates... too many times we read negative reviews on the internet, but I feel there are positive reviews that should be shared as well. Today was my first time visiting Dr. McEwen, and I have nothing but great things to say about my experience! I was greeted with a handshake (who does that anymore) followed by a comforting introduction. He then allowed me to explain my situation (he didn't interrupt me, etc). Then, he explained my condition to me.. explained how to live with it... and offered a prescription to help with the times my condition gets the best of me. But most importantly, he thoroughly explained my condition to me... in words I could understand. I never felt as if he was talking down to me, etc. I left feeling educated about my condition, and that is a huge plus in my book. His staff was also very pleasant to work with. I was also seen within minutes of my scheduled appointment time. I found Dr. McEwen using Google Reviews, so I wanted to leave a review for the next person. Hope this helps :)

Seen there once. Next appointment they cancelled 4 days before my appointment and said they would not see me for over a month. No alternatives. Poor costumer service for repeat patients

Nikki Slater

They are really poor at returning phone calls. It took me a week and a half to receive a nurse phone call after leaving several messages. The price per visit was really high for the services I received. I called the office manager to voice my concerns and still have not received a call back in over 4 days. I called again today and was told I would be connected to her and after put on hold was sent again to her voicemail. Called billing office about my charges and have not heard from them either. Will not refer any more patients to them.

lylliaah

Cant get in for months. Maybe you should fix that... stay open later than 4 you think?

Shrilon Ortiz

I have been going to this office for a couple of years. I usually see Taryne and she is wonderful! The whole office staff is friendly and caring and Taryne and her assistant always make sure to take the time and answer any and all questions and concerns I have. I always look forward to my derm appointments now!

Bill Daugherty

All I can say is AAHHHHGGGG. Told my wife I'm never going back to that place again. This is the second time I've taken one of my kids in for an appointment and the second time I sat in the waiting room for OVER ONE HOUR before we were brought into a patient room where we sat another twenty minutes. This didn't just happen once, it happened twice. No apology, no interest in letting me know how far behind they are, nobody asked if I would like to reschedule because they were behind, no consideration what so ever. Now I know exactly why they make you sign a patient form that says if you walk out of your appointment they charge you $50. It's because of experiences like this that I'm sure patients have walked out before. And my daughter who has been going there for a long time says she is completely disappointed in their treatment program.

I have going to Lee's Summit Dermatology for 13 yrs or more. Not only do I see Dr McQwen but also go to the Med spa on a regular bases. All the girls are so sweet and kind and do everything to make you feel comfortable. Karie, Tammy and Jennifer are the best. I feel like I am family on both sides. Amber is the greatest too. I feel they always answer all my questions and concerns. We make the decisions to do the best for my skin. I really like the cleanliness and presentation. Way to go Lees Summit Dermatology and Med Spa. Love it. There products are great too.

In reading previous comments, it looks as though I am not the first person to be treated rudely. After being there 2 times previous, you would think they would have all of our information. After trying to fill out paperwork that was never sent to me and then trying to get a copy of the insurance card faxed to them I was told our time was up and we would have to reschedule. They would not accept an email of the card and would not help me talk to the insurance company as they "did not have time." Needless to say we will never be back. I left furious and in tears and upset that I missed work for nothing. As a single mother i don't have all the time in the world to take off work for appointments.

Sheena Best

I've been a patient to not only Dr. McEwen but also Nurse Practitioner Amber Kunshek for different conditions and procedures. I felt comfortable enough to be honest, and confident in their diagnosis and treatments. The office itself was clean and comfortable. The front desk staff was more than helpful and everyone seemed to actually enjoy working in the field of patient care.

Julie Hensley

I have had several procedures at Lee's Summit Dermatology I have been treated wonderfully and professional each time. My wait time is typically less than most any appointments I've had elsewhere My last appointment I had two different procedures so waited out in the lobby between them I only witnessed happy patients being treated very respectfully by the receptionist Follow up appointments were made quickly and politely. But most important of all I absolutely love the results I get from the practitioners. They are the best!

Theresa Simmons

The staff is extremely rude and the billing specialist is highly untrained.. the way my family was treated in this office on our first visit was despicable.. would not recommend this office to anyone I would give it zero stars but it won't allow me to.. also made a follow up phone call to try to remedy the situation at the first appointment and was hung up on this is very unprofessional!!!

Dr McEwen is a great person but unfortunately he is not well equipped with the the ideal staffs. His staffs don’t match the quality of his knowledge. Many bad experiences with front desk in many different calls and also a really bad service from the nurses. I called many times and the receptionist transferred to the nurses line and nobody ever answered me or returned. I let the Dr knows about the bad communication between his staffs. I had hard time to schedule a simple hydrocortisone injection on my face, I needed to convince the assistant physician that it was necessary like Dr McEwen had instructed me and tell her all my patient history again. A new nurse in training saw me twice there and I won’t describe all the details here but she has a really not professional behavior or posture in front the patients. I was a little unconfortable with some of her behaviors.

Rosa Maria

I'm surprised by all the bad reviews. This place is hard to get into quick if you want to specifically see Dr. McEwen but the wait is worth it! I've tried other dermatologists in the area and they couldn't provide me with long lasting results like he did. He is the best!

alïah johnson

Very disappointed with the lady that seen my son. seems she was in a hurry and left the nurse to tell me what I needed to do. I paid a big co-pay to see a doctor not a nurse . I wonder who gets paid the more.

Heather Wheeler

I love this dermatology offic . Everyone is friendly and caring. I brought my younger daughter in and they were so kind to her. I can't believe the poor reviews. I've been to many different dermatologist over the years and this is where I hope to stay.

Bram Roden

I had a scheduled appointment for about a two weeks for advice on acne scarring. I didn’t realize that their medspa gave free consultations on the same thing. They still let me come in for an appointment and spend 80 dollars on a copay just for them to give me a brochure for their medspa. The same thing that would have happened had I just stepped next door. Anyone could have called me and told me that there was no cost or need for an appointment at the medspa but they didn’t and I spent 80 dollars for a brochure and a bag of travel sized Cetaphil lotion...

Jennifer Schulze

Melissa Larimore

Obviously they don't need new patients. I wasn't treated with dignity and felt I wasn't being heard.

Maegan Lathrop

I could not have been any more disappointed with Lee's Summit Dermatology Associates! I waited over a month for my appointment only to be rushed in and out in under 10 minutes- no information on my condition other than the name, sending me to 3 different pharmacies for 3 different medications, no hand outs... nothing! When I called back for more information and ideas on how to handle my condition- that is since much worse- I had to leave 3 different messages with the nurse. When I was finally able to talk to a nurse she was rude, condescending, and not helpful. Their customer service is disappointing. Find a different dermatologist!!

Amy Klay

They seemed so kind initially but when I arrived with my 3 year old son whom has a scar on his face after a "bat to face" incident. They quickly turned me out the door canceling me on the spot. See my son has been adopted by us through foster care and carries state insurance but is also on my insurance. Once they were aware of the state insurance they adamantly would not see him insisting that they HAVE to bill both insurances and after speaking with both insurances I know this is FALSE! They simply have a policy that they will not allow anyone who is eligible for state insurance to be seen in their clinic. After much discussion with my insurance it was suggested that there is likely something fishy that occurs within their billing etc and it's best to find another clinic (which I had already decided). I spoke not only with their front desk staff but also their billing personal who also gave me a load of crap. I work in Healthcare and with insurances so I understand much of billing practices/procedures and was appalled by their practices. I can understand not accepting state insurance but I have him on my insurance as well so I can have more options for his Healthcare. You are of course free to see whom you would like but I would advise you to proceed with caution with this facility.

Jim Wright

Very pleased. Friendly staff and good instructions from people who care. I think some of the negative reviews are about the OTHER dermatology clinic in Lee's Summit....

My name is Briana and I wanted to thank ALL the Doctors, Nurses and Receptionist on showing me what great customer service is all about. The day before thanksgiving I broke out in some type of an allergic reaction from shoulders to feet. I was seen there once before back in may so I was still technically considered a new patient. I tried to get an appt that day but they were completely booked out. Darcy took the initiative and recommended me to other facilities that could help me with my concern. I rushed to urgent care and while I was waiting Darcy called me and said a patient had canceled and I can come in later that afternoon. I cant thank her enough for taking the extra mile and getting me in that day! Couple weeks went by and this time the allergic reaction return...ON MY FACE/LIPS. I was having trouble with breathing and they recommended me to go to the hospital ASAP. Not only did I see a doctor that day but I also got a called from one of the nurses from Lees Summit Dermatology that night "checking up" on me and see how I was doing. I wanted to thank Lees Summit Dermatology for everything you have done for me. I cant thank you enough!! And I defiantly will recommend your services for anyone who needs assistance with there skin care concerns. Happy Holidays!

I was dreading coming here because of all the bad reviews but this is the place my ins company referred me to. I've been here twice now and both experiences have been nothing but pleasant. They are polite and greet you as soon as you come in the door, the nurses and Dr r funny and easy to talk to, they even gave my toddler toys. They seemed relieved when I came in with my paperwork already filled out and my proper ins card. Definitely reccomend this place to anyone who has enough of a brain to bring their ins card to a Dr appt!!

Allan Petty

My son recently saw Taryne Hensley, NP and both he and my husband came home after the appointment talking about how well she listened, explained everything, and answered all questions. The staff was kind and the wait was short. Overall very impressed and would definitely recommend Taryne (and the office) to anyone needing a dermatologist!

Jennifer Egger

The front office is unkind and grumpy. We were going to be 10 minutes late so we lost our appointment. As much as i didnt like that,i accepted that and then was early to the next appointmemt for my other son, which was on the same day, 30 minutes later. They kept us waiting and waiting. After 20 minutes i got our office visit fee back and left. My 10 minutes of being late was unacceptable but them being 20 minutes late is ok? They also really only want you to visit with the dr for 10 minutes, even though i had more issues. This was made very clear on the day i scheduled my appointment. Not impressed at all.

Mandy Smith

Terrible office staff. Been going to this location for 12 years!!!! And by location I mean group as they have moved in my time going. Showed up on time and they made me reschedule because of a new policy. Schedule the appointments 15 minutes earlier instead!!!! Terrible office staff. And terrible communication. Drove 50 minutes for this service. Thumbs down to office. I do like the docs/nurses but have to get through the office to see them. Booo

Very friendly best experience I ever had at the doctor's office .

UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE INVASIVE MELANOMA FROM A FRECKLE My wife went to our Primary Care Doctor about a lesion on her hand she was refered to this office and was seen for the lesion and a couple different spots. She had just finished breast cancer treatment. She was seen on January 26 2016. She was told dont worry its nothing and no need to follow up. In January of 2017, she was with me at our Primary Care Doctor as I was having some pre cancerous spots frozen. My wife mentioned to the PC that the lesion was getting worse and he looked at again and froze it. He said if it doesnt go away he would remove and send for biopsy. After two weeks with no improvement he removed and sent it in. He called today with the results of invasive melanoma and is referring her to KU Med to a cancer dermatologist and oncology specialist.

My wife just left Lee's Summit Dermatology after taking off the day from work to take our daughter to an appointment. My wife did not have my daughter's insurance card but had her own (she is primary) and my son's card (I had my daughter's card). The reception staff would not let her go to the appointment even with a photograph of the card and assurance that the original copy of the card could be delivered by me within 30 minutes. They would not let my wife speak to the manager nor would they call the insurance company to confirm that insurance was in place. The staff was less than helpful and bordering on rude with their lack of assistance. My upset wife left with my daughter in tears. We can't speak to the quality of care or the skill of the physicians as we were unable to speak to them.

Tyson Markham

I received a call from Dr. McEwen after I posted a review about the timeliness of the practice. I found it to be very respectful to receive a call from the doctor apologizing.

Jennifer Williams

The lobby was busy, reception was curt and gave a bad first impression. From start to finish, I felt like I was a cow being herded through the building. I felt the doctor rushed through my full body scan. He was in such a hurry, I wasn't able to ask many questions. The one thing I was able to spit out before he ran out the door, ended up needing to be excised. I was quickly asked to redress and pushed out the door. The nurse called a week later to give the results but simply told me a diagnosis and that I should watch for a pamphlet in the mail. The bill came before the pamphlet and had I known that the only souvenir/info I would have received from this overpriced visit was something I could have just googled; well, I would have taken a vacation instead. I'm disappointed with my experience but lucky for me, this is certainly not the only derm. practice available in the KC area.

Jamie Hutchens

How disappointing. I've come here for a long time now. Not any more! The doctors and nurse practitioners are okay. The front desk staff however is horrible. I'm sure they could careless but they have lost my business as well as my business in the medspa. I would suggest you go somewhere else. Horrible customer service.

G Fay

I recently visited Dr. McEwen's office for a procedure in removing a cyst. His office staff was very friendly and professional. His assistant explained the steps involved and was very helpful in answering questions I had. Dr. McEwen promptly performed the procedure and explained some possible after effects I might encounter. Dr. McEwen and his staff were very consciencious and caring. I would highly recommend them to others seeking dermatology services.

Debbie J

I am very pleased with Lee's Summit Dermatology Associates Med Spa. I have noticed great improvements in my skin since my first appointment. The staff is very professional, knowledgeable about what procedures and products will benefit me and they treat me like family. I recommend them to others often.

Mark Broderson

Excellent service, great front desk staff, 3rd time using this clinic, very professional.

J D

My doctor had referred this location to me about a week ago. Lee's Summit called me and helped me set up an appointment for today October 7th. I live in the plaza so it's about a 30 minutes drive to the office. They did not bother to tell me on the phone what methods of payment they take and don't take. They also don't ask you if you know where the location is or any kind of directions. I came up here getting ready to pay with my American Express card since I knew that would cover my co pay on pay day and low and behold they don't accept it. I drove all the way out here for nothing. For first time patients DO NOT bring your American Express and make sure you ask them questions they should already be giving you answers to in the first place. Won't be back.

Sharon Pflughaupt

I have been going to Lee's Summit Dermatology Med Spa for six months. I have seen an amazing difference in my face. My friends have also noticed. My brown spots are getting lighter, and my eyes look so much better. I highly recommend their face wash, eye lotion, face lotion, Vitamin C oil, and their Fire and Ice facials. Go see Tammy for an evaluation and a procedure! You will not regret it.

Kimberly Comiskey

I have been a client there for 2 years and I highly recommend them. They have a wonderful staff! I have been very satisfied with my esthetician Tammy Witt! She always has great suggestions and has done wonders for my skin with her lactic acid peels!
