REVIEWS OF Oakdale OBGYN - Maple Grove IN Minnesota

When they couldn't find a heartbeat on my baby last year, the midwife immediately referred to him or her as "product of conception". It was not the terminology to use with a grieving family. I will not return to Oakdale again.

I wouldn't recommend midwife Torri Washington. She was unprofessional and rude!

Dr. Desiree Van Bogart - Anoka Chiropractor

I loved all the midwives here! They are true supporters of natural childbirth. I had a great experience with their prenatal care and delivery at Maple Grove hospital.

Sarah Mitchell

I forgot to write a review after my appointment. Oh gosh! The midwife Torri was horrible! Seriously, I've never experienced such a thing. You would think some midwife would have some compassion considering the job they chose to do! I do not recommend this OBGYN! I am very positive that I have the right clinic!

Iryna Maretskiy

We were coming to the Maple Grove Hospital to deliver our baby not knowing which midwife will be waiting for us there. Every single one that we met at our appointments during our pregnancy was professional and caring, so we were not really worried regarding this matter. I am thankful to God that it was Debra Boersma`s shift. The amount of professionalism, leadership, knowledge, respect, care she has is unbelievable! Everybody can get a midwife license but not everybody has a gift for it. My midwife Debra is one of few who has heart and passion in addition to certificate. In the moment when I was overtaken by pain and exhaustion she took responsibility, encouraged me to deliver according to my birth plan and did her best to coach me in the way I felt listened to and respected. She even knitted a hat for our little cutie. How sweet is that? Thank you Debra, for making a lifelong impact on our family! Forever grateful for the experience!

LOVE LOVE LOVE my midwife Annie she is so sweet and caring and listens to what I have to say and I never feel pressured or judged I wish we could be best friends lol and I also had Fernanda when I was pregnant and LOVED Her too she was very very excited for the baby which made me even more excited and made me and baby feel very loved. All stage staff is nice and baby friendly they'll hold baby while u go to the bathroom or when u are back in the room which helps A LOT because he hates his car seat. Wait time never seems to be too long. Clean office. They always wanted me to ask questions never made me feel rushed or dumb. Everyone who had problems with a provider should've went with a midwife they are great

Bad. I have an issue that makes the gynecological exam VERY painful. They didn't offer any alternatives to the basic exam, or ways to make it less painful, they just stopped and didn't do it. They didn't do anything for my other issue, either. Just sent me on my way with a prescription for BV medication. I didn't get any help with my problems whatsoever. I will not be returning. The exam was not even needed, as the issue they were checking for had already been diagnosed.

I wanted to write to share my experience(s) with Kelly Ihry. In short, Kelly is a fantastic nurse practitioner/medical provider. She LISTENS, she's patient, and she's kind. I started seeing Kelly while I was pregnant - she was the first person my husband and I met with at Oakdale, and we/I kept returning to her for all the visits because she was so down to earth and practical. Finding a healthcare provider is scary - they see us when we're our most vulnerable (in more ways than one). However, because of my experience with Kelly, I really feel heard, and understood. Please make sure she knows how valuable she is. If you would like to share this accolade through other media channels, you are more than welcome to do so. All women should feel as comfortable with a provider as I do with Kelly.

We were seen there from late 2015. There service was horrible. From the receptionist to nurses to doctors, everything was bad. They had a "we don't care" attitude. Drs were in a hurry to get us out of the room. They made us feel like they don't want to see us. We met five different drs and only one was good. They didn't do one of the lab tests that dr ordered. When we asked for the results, they apologized and said they forgot to run the test. They said they would do the test on our next visit, but they didn't do the test on our next visit too. We switched to a different clinic.

I have very mixed reviews about this place. I have come in several times because I have been dealing with chronic BV (bacterial vaginosis) for a year and was getting annoyed because I wanted it gone and had never experienced this in my life. The only 2 providers that I felt actually cared about what I said and could help me, were Dr. Nielson and Dr. Stone, which both have left the clinic. I went in on Tuesday, June 8th 2018 and this was my worst experience to date. I went in to discuss pre-menopause and chronic BV with Carmen Stansberry. I understand she is a trained provider, but she made me feel like I had no common sense. She walked in with an attitude and said, "What can I do for you?" Did she even look at my past history or the reason I was in to see her? I was taken back by her attitude, and therefore, went into a shell. My appointment was at 10:40. She walked in at 10:50 and was out by 10:57. There was no plan set for my BV, there was no understanding of menopause. All she said was, "we are the experts here regarding menopause so come in when you need us because you are going to experience a lot of different things going forward." What does that mean? I wanted to know what pre-menopause looks like. I wanted education. I wanted to come up with a plan for this BV because I am fed up. She was rushed and did not take the time I needed to get the help I needed. I went to the front desk and complained to the staff and made another appointment with Megan Frederickson for next week. Is it even worth it anymore? Then the best part happened...I got a call from the nurse stating my test was positive for the BV. Prior to that, Carmen specifically stated in the room that we were going to do Clindamycin cream and Boric Acid if the test was positive. If the test was negative, we would do the Boric Acid. However, 5 minutes after I left, Carmen left me a voicemail stating she was going to do another type of medication. Ugh. So, when the nurse called with the positive test results, this is what I was told. "Carmen wants you to take Cleomycin for 3 days, take a probiotic, and use a condom with sex for a month. OMG! I already take Clindamycin and a probiotic. Obviously, that does not work!!!!!! The nurse stated she would talk to Carmen and get back to me....well that was at 1:24pm and I didn't hear a thing back for the rest of the day. I am done with that provider. I am not a mean person but when I get the runaround and feel I am an inconvenience to a provider, it does surely upset me to no end especially since I have seen Nielsen, , Sarkinen, Ihry, Narveson, Krause, Hallstrom, and now Stansberry and have zero relief. Who am I supposed to get help from? I am going to give Megan a try but if that does not work, I will have to be done at this facility. I need someone with excellent bedside manner who will take the time to understand my concerns and educate me. I feel I have been pushed aside. The only provider who actually had a solution, left the clinic and that was Dr. Stone. She was the only provider who cared to do a culture of my yeast to find out I had a very tough yeast (glabrata) that was not being treated with Terazol and Diflucan and needed Boric Acid. So all of these years, these providers just kept pushing the wrong medication on me and no wonder I never recovered from yeast. She looked me directly in the eyes and spoke at my level and spent a significant amount of time with me. Her leaving was a true loss. I will give Megan a try and if that does not go well, I will have to move on. I have given this clinic so many chances to step it up. The front desk girls were amazing and totally understood my concerns.

I have had a great experience at Oakdale OBGYN. Dr. Wilcox delivered my last two children via c-section, and did a fantastic job. My recovery was smooth, to which I credit her skills and techniques. I feel I have received amazing care and guidance throughout my pregnancies and routine visits. I would highly recommend this practice to anyone.

The doctors here are like"oh one more pregnant woman" now what? kind of an attitude., which makes you sick. lol .Personalized care is highly missing. I would no go back again in future !

I came here for my last pregnancy and birth. Firstly I had problems with billing. They randomly stopped submitting to my insurance without notice leaving me with big bills to pay. Very upset about that. I wasn’t a fan of the OB’s. At 20 weeks pregnant I switched to a midwife, Debra, and we just clicked so I continued to stay with Oakdale due to my love for Debra! I wanted to do a natural birth and Debra was totally supportive. And when it came to birth she was actually the midwife on duty! Hallelujah! I was set on birthing my baby the night I arrived so Debra could deliver her! She was amazing. I got the birth I wanted. :) And I’m so thankful I did deliver at night because the next day the midwife I did NOT like one bit, who I saw the week before, was on duty. She was rude & uninterested in me. Thank the heavens for Debra! I’m very sad though because I just had another recent billing issue with Oakdale. The bill showed up 3 months late for $35 then got sent to collections. I always pay my bills on time so this pushed me over the edge. They claim they sent it in October, but if that were true they would’ve told me I had a balance at my 6 week pp visit. So anyway, I won’t be coming back. I am the 4th person in my group of friends no longer going to Oakdale. Very unfortunate because I want Debra to deliver all of my babies. Oakdale, you need to figure your shi* out.

Kelly Ihry, Nurse Practioner, was AMAZING. I typically go to a Fairview/HealthPartners larger clinic setting and have always had major anxiety about going to the doctor and was never happy. Oakdale had a VERY welcoming and friendly environment. Again Kelly made me feel comfortable and explained everything thoroughly! Little to no wait time and great staff!! I definitely left with a smile on my face (which never happens at a doctor for me), so thank you Oakdale!

I absolutely LOVE Oakdale OBGYN (Maple Grove), their staff is fantastic and I would highly recommend Midwife Torri Washington. She is patient and kind to those under her care. She has a great attitude and you can tell that she truly loves what she does. She makes you feel at ease with everything that is going on. Their staff got me in next day for an appointment with Torri. I wouldn't have anyone else by my side for all needs woman/pregnancy related! Thanks for being the best there is Torri Washington and Oakdale OBGYN!

I've been going to Oakdale for many years and can't say enough how appreciative I am of the care I've received. Everyone is so kind from the scheduling team,to the front desk staff, nurses and providers. I've had great experiences and I've seen almost everyone :) I highly recommend those who are seeking OBGYN care.

I can not say enough wonderful things about Oakdale and the care they provide. I've seen several clinic doctors, worked with Kim the Dietitian and Charet the physical therapist and feel that their comprehensive approach and "team work" nature serves patients in the very best way possible. Dr. Matthew Palmer is my primary at the clinic and after 12 years of poor treatment from another well-known clinic in the Twin Cities Dr. Palmer diagnosed me with stage 3 endometriosis and completed a comprehensive laparoscopic excision surgery. He is a true surgical genius and recognized nationally for his training and expertise in endo and excision. I have referred several patients to seek his care and everyone has left feeling "heard" for the first time in their lives. My husband and our families enjoy his soft spoken, kind and sensitive approach. I have never met a doctor who listens the way Dr. Palmer does. I also think a very unique feature of this clinic is their "team" approach to your care. Dr. Palmer is the endo/excision specialist but when we were facing infertility he referred us to Dr. McEvoy at the clinic who is the resident "fertility expert." I found this approach incredibly refreshing and it proved once more that Dr. Palmer is focused on providing the best patient care NOT his ego. Like any business I've had a couple bumps with trying to schedule things or a receptionist who may have been having a bad day, but the care here is second to none and we are all human. I'm there so often many of the nurses say hello by name and they truly make me feel at home no matter which location I visit.

I absolutely love Oakdale OBGYN! I am so glad I decided to go there for my prenatal care. This is my first child and they have made everything so easy for me as far as recommendations or even answering my silly questions. I highly recommend the Maple Grove location! Everyone has been so great!

I had a hard time figuring out how to do rating because I had two different experiences with two different people here...1st with Carmen Stansberry and 2nd with Shannon Harris. I scheduled my 1st obgyn appointment with Carmen Stansberry. Before being seen, I had to have my medical records sent over. When 1st meeting her, she was a very friendly person. During my appointment, she let me know that I would be seeing an MD going forward due to certain needs I have, which was fine, but it should not have impacted the service she provided. I received this big packet of information regarding pregnancy titled "Great Expectations", and it was regarding pregancy and all these topics that we were supposed to touch on...at least that's what the inside of the packet said...she did not take the info out stating she did not want to mess up the packet, which was fine. And I know expecting to go through all that was not realistic, but one of the important pieces we should have discussed and that was the panel or lab work that was going to be done. She wanted to test me for things listed and even test that I have had done from previous dr 2 weeks prior...which confused me because I thought that was the point of sending over my medical records. I was unsure of all the test to be done and one was listed saying (need consent). It was overwhelming and I told her that. She told me it is what it is and we kept pushing along. I told her another time about the anxiety and I felt dismissed. She said she would follow up with me and that NEVER happened. My anxiety was connected to poor experiences with doctors and she did not make it any better. So I took these test, and even the person who was drawing the blood, could not tell me all the test that were being done. Being "friendly" means very little if a persons feelings or concerns are being dismissed. I had to call in for my results and that is sad....I am paying for a service and had to walk away feeling frustrated as I was. I would not go back to her no matter what. If someone reads this, I hope you change the protocol. ................................... My 2nd appointment was with Shannon. I had read some reviews and was uncertain on what to expect, especially because of my 1st experience. But talking with Shannon was easy to do. And she did follow up on topics we discussed that I wasn't even expecting a follow up on. Before coming to the appointment, I had wrote a list of questions down and during appointment I was reading from the list. I began to wonder if it was too much, but it was Shannon thay encouraged me to ask all the questions I want to. My appointment with Shannon was supposed to.be 20 mins...but someone put in the system 10 mins...but Shannon sat with me easily for 30 mins or more. As we discussed goals, any concern I had she focused in on it and even provided encouragement. I had a separate doctor frommy ob and we both discussed if changing primary doctors would be beneficial during the pregnancy process and I'm glad I did. I do have the what if anxieties but talking to Shannon, I felt it was ok if I do want to discuss. Working with her I felt heard and comfortable and played a vital role in me deciding to continue with this location.

When you call in the morning and talk with one of the nurses because you are experiencing cramps, nausea and other symptoms and nobody returns your call. Thanks for caring Oakdale! I picked you to deliver my baby girl last year and sent you a referral. I would say the past two years I have gone there I would give overall care and customer service a 2/10. I will be looking elsewhere. Very unfortunate.

I am writing this review about my experience at Oakdale because I honestly hope other women check these out before selecting a provider. I saw Kelly at Oakdale (between their Plymouth and Maple Grove locations) from about 10 weeks pregnant to 20 weeks. At my first appointment, I asked Kelly about water births, because I really had my heart set on it. She told me and my BF that they were illegal in the state of Minnesota. The rest of the first appointment went well and she was very informative. Every appointment after the first one was less than 15 minutes, in an out, 45 seconds with the Doppler… I felt too rushed to ask any questions, and luckily I was using the BabyCenter App on my phone, or I would have no clue what to expect week by week – because Doc didn’t really say much. It isn’t everyone’s 5th time doing this. Some of us have NO idea what to expect week by week and it’s super intimidating for symptoms to creep up quietly if your provider isn’t giving you heads up and warnings on what to look out for. I was never given test results, (even if everything was normal, it’s still nice to hear so!! Why am I peeing in a cup every appointment? What are they checking for? I have no clue!!) I was never walked through procedures. I’m pretty sure I had a Pap at my first appointment?? I wouldn’t know because Doc was busy talking to me about my extended family instead of explaining what she was doing down there. For those of you who are saying “It’s worse for them than it is for you…” - I really could care less if it’s worse for the Doc.. I didn’t choose their profession. Act professional about it and treat the woman on the table like a human who MAY want to know exactly what you are looking for down there??! At about 20 weeks pregnant, I decided to switch from Kelly (MD) to an actual Midwife at Oakdale, hoping for longer, more intimate and informative appointments, but was met with basically the same care. When I told the Midwife that I was planning on having a Doula there for the birth, she actually scoffed at me, and said to “Make sure my Doula was DONA Certified” (Which she is, but thanks...?) I felt like I was unable to “interview” my care team at Oakdale because they were always so rushed, and usually answered me with a general “We are your greatest advocate!” or “It’s too soon to worry about all that!” RED FLAG! If they won’t genuinely listen to your concerns/anxieties, I would advise to keep looking around for another provider. Anyway, I met with two different Midwives at Oakdale, and wasn’t impressed. Around 27 weeks pregnant, I met my Doula for the first time on November 11th, and told her about my worries with Oakdale. She told me that water births are in fact NOT “illegal” and referred to me to Willow Birth Center. I made an appointment immediately at Willow and I HIGHLY recommend checking it out! Reviews are outstanding, and the care I have gotten there so far has been nothing short of outstanding. I have since switched to Willow and am so happy I found them! Do your research! If you can’t conduct a mini interview with the team bringing your little one into this world, keep looking for someone that will have time for your questions, and that will take your concerns/anxieties seriously, because when you are 38 weeks pregnant, it’s too late to ask many of the important questions to make sure your delivery team’s goals/plans line up with your goals and plans.

October 2018: HORRIBLE! Do not go here. Staff are rude, doctors are not helpful. They write you a prescription and send you on your way OR they do lab/ultrasounds and don't tell you the findings. I initially went here as I was going months without having a period. They wrote me a prescription that was to "restart my cycle" but it never did. I went back as my husband and I wanted to start trying to have a baby. They decided to do an ultrasound of my ovaries. My provider at Oakdale spent less than 5 minutes going over what they found when doing the ultrasound of my ovaries. They told me everything was normal and my left ovary was "hiding" but eventually found it. They gave me the visit summary and sent me on my way. They did not tell me I needed to come back, what the next steps are, or what my options were. My concern for why I went there was never addressed. To make matters worse, I found out a year later when going over my medical history/medical records with my new provider at OGI, that they found cysts and lumps on my right ovary and never even saw/found my left ovary!!! Like I said, do not go here... unless you want your Oakdale doctors to find something concerning and note information that contradicts what they told you in the office. Instead go to OGI where the staff are nothing but kind, supportive, and helpful. ***update 12/22/18*** (After continuing my care at OGI, where they listened to my concerns and helped me find answers.) ....A FUS/PUS, MRI, laparoscopy/hysteroscopy, and labs later - I was finally able to get answers that the staff at Oakdale would not. I was diagnosed with PCOS, which the provider I saw at Oakdale told me I wouldn’t qualify for the diagnosis (same provider who just put me on pills to “restart” my period and have timed intercourse - which never helped). To make matters worse, I found out a year and a half later (because I put off a referral to see an OBGYN due to been afraid every place was like Oakdale and I would just waste money to have providers that wouldn’t take the time to help me find answers) that my left ovary is dead. I am so angry of the thought that I could have found this out (or prevented this - cause is unknown) if my provider at Oakdale would have just listened to me and my husband, taking our concerns and questions seriously. I’m at least thankful that I have an AMAZING provider who goes above and beyond to ensure we are doing what I and my husband want and need. She is always interested in our thoughts and concerns, making sure we have all the options and information to make the best choice/decisions for us. I recommend everyone go to OGI (Maple Grove location) - they are fabulous and you will not regret it!

I loved the Oakdale Midwives! I never had to wait & never felt rushed. Only one made me feel rushed, but you can choose whom you want to see if you connect with one or a few. I connected the most with Jennifer. My delivery and stay at Maple Grove Hospital was with different midwives then I saw during pregnancy & they were all great as well especially the one that delivered my baby & it didnt even matter that I had never met her before. Annie carefully read my birth plan & encouraged me on my natural birth plan even when I was doubting I could do it, so I couldnt have been happier that I stayed on track with my plan thanks to her.
