It has been 9 years now since I went to MHNI and stayed at Chelsea for the 10 day study and treatment. It was a real financial, time and physical stretch for me, but everyone was amazing and committed to finding something that would help. 9 years later I am still so grateful for the improved quality of life. No miracle cute, but what a wonderful difference in my daily life. Worth every penny and more.

The staff taking care of you are very nice, and the Dr. I saw was great. The people who answer the phones and the older lady at checkout did not say thank you or goodbye on the phone. I have social issues and even I'm more friendly than that. Nobody likes to laugh or take a joke at checkout and it's very discouraging. AGAIN, they staff and my doctor and everyone else WERE PERFECTLY AMAZING, it's just the lady and/or people who answer your phones, and are at checkout that come off as unfriendly and make it very discouraging when nobody laughs and they give you a serious, slightly intimidating look.

The staff worked together to determine the best course of action for my daughter. They don't guarantee miracles, but they provided one for us -- ultimately finding relief from her daily pain. Before MHNI, my then 15-year-old had been left incapacitated with extreme daily migraine-like pain. Today, the headaches are manageable and she is back to being a regular, social teenager.

Sara S

The doctors and PAs here at MHNI have been immensely helpful. They take the time to answer questions, and make sure that you really understand your care. I feel so incredibly fortunate to work with them as a team to improve my pain and therefore my quality of life moving forward.

The doctors took the time to get to know my son and figure out the best course of action to help him and his migraines! We left the hospital program with a lot of new information and ways to help us understand and treat our son's migraines. They were able to do more for our son in 12 days than we were in months! Thank you!

Our experience was beyond our expectations. The knowledge and experience of the doctor and his team cannot be compared. We felt he really wanted to help Ellie. Explained things so well so we could understand. The staff at the hospital were the most caring, compassionate, and understanding people we have met since getting this headache over two years ago. My daughter was very scared about going into the hospital. We stopped to visit the Headpain unit to ease her anxiety and were met by Tessie who loved on us from the time we arrived to visit and when we were admitted. My daughter was here for 12 days. She can tell you that she loves this place. It is hard to say good bye to the staff. She is leaving with reduced pain and encouraged by the doctor that we can continue to make her feel better.

I received thorough analysis of all possible causes of my migraine. The staff were diligent and pleasant, and the doctors were attentive in coordinating on my treatment plan. Bedside manner in all was wonderful, and the hospital is quiet yet not without entertainment. I would definitely recommend MHNI to anyone suffering chronic head pain of any kind.

I have been a patient at MHNI since 2008. I continue to value wise and thorough evaluations, care plans, and on-going regular treatment. My situation is very complex and at that time was accurately diagnosed with CSF leaks, being referred in to the world's leading neurosurgeon in CA in the research, evaluation, and treatment of CSF leaks. MHNI continues to walk with me in my journey of healing with well thought out treatment plans. MHNI works closely with leading professionals arround the world and their commitment to professional growth and development, maximizes the benefit of team collaboration that share core values. MHNI is committed to well researched best practice in their field and there is confidence knowing you will be working with the best at all times.

Jody M

the doctors really kept working for me and finding what was wrong with me even though it took longer than 7 days. I really appreciated their dedication and working till finding a diagnosis. I say thank you with all my heart!!! It was nice seeing my regular doctor during the weekend Dr. Prestegaard. She has tried helping me for several months then brought my name to the board for inpatient. I thank her for that. I really liked Cheryl and Bob and Dr. Tarrek too. Very friendly and willing to help.

Kris M

Excellent rapport with patients. Always allowed time for patient to ask questions about medications or procedures. KM

Had migraines for years. Spent over two weeks with MHNI. Have not had a bad headache since 1997. Thank you MHNI.

I wouldn't even give 1 star. If you have out of state insurance you are screwed and they want a $500 fee to reserve your apt. $250 fee to see each specialist and an upfront fee for any test or diagnostics they do and this is just the initial visit to see if they will except you. Unless you have unbelievable good insurance or thousands to burn I wouldn't recommend getting your hopes up.

Tyler V

Dr Saper has an amazing bedside manner. We appreciated his calm and thorough manner with the details pertaining to my daughter's situation. Even though we did not have quite the pain relief we had hoped for, we feel this program has been beneficial. TMV

I really appreciate all the feedback I get and the ease of contacting staff at MHNI. Everyone is very helpful and I never feel like I am asking the proverbial 'dumb question'.

My husband has had headaches for years. We have tried everything to minimize pain. We thought we finially found someone to help. The staff was great we spent a whole day there and we were excited our insurance covered ( except co pay) the visit. We were recommended to have a MRI done of neck it has been a month and a half many phone calls and still no one to follow up or schedule a MRI.... so I feel it was another day wasted and he still has headaches ! It They are not as professional as they lead you on to be. If so , they would return calls and follow up on scheduled appointments ! I am now back to searching for another place to help

Good continuity of care between the doctors. They have a wonderful and caring nursing and support staff also.

MHNI has changed my quality of life tremendously! I have had migraines since childhood with no neurologist or treatment center able to control them. After countless hospital stays, and years of suffering I found MHNI online. Like many others I was skeptical of getting my hopes up only to be let down again. It was a commitment and a large expense to travel eight hours to try it but after a migraine that had lasted over 4 months without any relief it was all I had left to try. At my initial appointment the decision was made for me to receive inpatient treatment. It took a week to get admitted as they require testing and insurance approval before hand (Be sure to call them following up to see if approvals have been received). The team of doctors were great, listened to everything and unlike anywhere else understood what I was saying instead of questioning what I was explaining. The hospital stay was tough but totally worth it. Countless tests, procedures and medicines were used to determine the cause and treatment plan. Nursing staff at Chelsea is by far the best! They only deal with headache patients and therefore understand your symptoms and know what to report to the doctors. Some meds tried did make it worse for me but without trying it we did not know since it works for others. Before MHNI I had a daily headache and a migraine at least 3 days a week. I left Chelsea headache free for the first time in years! A year and a half later I am still doing great on the regimen MHNI doctors have me on. I continue to drive eight hours every three months to receive the best care possible! Yes, things here are different. I too questioned the policies and procedures until I realized they are in place for a reason, to help those of us who are suffering! Cannot recommend MHNI enough to anyone suffering!!

the drs and staff are genuinely concerned about reducing the pain, depression, anxiety and confusion that accompanies migraine headaches. it is comforting to know they have a vast experience. they are familiar with migraines and will not demean or invalidate your experience and pain. they really do want to get you back into life. the team is comprehensive so all aspects of illness are tackled. these range from physical and emotional to physical fitness, and rehabilitation. the hospital atmosphere is serene. the woods and paths are so peaceful. the freedom i had as a patient was wonderful. i could get up and walk, go to the cafeteria, coffee shop and gift store, i did not feel tied down at all. the group activities and sharing are beneficial in giving the knowledge that i am not alone in this. there are others all over the world who suffer just as i do. this is so healing. i now have friends with whom i can keep in contact. friends that will not tell me that this is all 'in my head' or i am a hypochondriac, or to just tough it out or ' you look fine'. these new friends have been through all of this themselves and we all understand the stigma associated with this condition.

I was excited to perhaps find an answer to my long time neurological head and neck pain. The appointment was all day . . . most of the time spent waiting in the waiting room for your next scheduled appointment (you will spend an hour in triage with a nurse, then wait, then an hour with the P.A. then wait, then will see the doctor then wait for the EEG, which in my case the doctor ordered and after waiting for it, was told by the technician I did not need one). Then you wait again to spend an hour with a psychologist which is a requirement, whether you need it or not (I did not). I was willing to endure this time and expense if I was able to find some answers. A Brain/Neck MRI was ordered and the staff (Julie) never even contacted my insurance for authorization like I was told. It has now been 4 weeks and multiple phone calls; I eventually cancelled my followup appt and asked the receptionist to be sure to tell the doctor why I was cancelling thinking maybe that would initiate some action. Nothing. I would not waste my time or money again - very unprofessional!

I first came to MHNI after an injury. Dr. Weintraub has been knowlegable, professional, kind and very helpful. I know that I am in the best hands here with Dr. Weintraub. If you are experiencing any type of head, neck or headache symptom I would highly recommend attending this facility.

Kathryn Barber

Very Pleased and Totally amazed at Dr. Saper and the entire staff! What excellence and professionalism. This team of doctors saved my life! After suffering from headaches for 14 years and over two surgeries, numerous procedures, and far too many diagnosis...it took Dr. Saper and Dr. Da Silva 30 minutes to determine I had low spinal fluid issues. I would recommend anyone to come to them for help. From the nurses to the hospital to the each person affiliated I cannot express enough gratitude for the thoughtfulness and kindness they showed me. What an amazing feeling it is to have my life back!

Riley S

Dr. Da Silva is very personable. On my first visit he put me at ease with his knowledge as well as his confidence that MHNI would help me. The office appearance seemed shabby and in dire need of an update to the 21st century. The hospital environment was good and I cannot say enough about the comprehensive, compassionate care I received. This is truly a healing environment. I would not hesitate to recommend it for chronic migraine sufferers. --Riley S.

I have been treated for a chronic (nonstop) migraine by Henry Ford for 15 years. I came to mhni out of desperation because nobody can help me. I had high hopes, but in the end, they had few medications or treatments that I had not already tried at Henry Ford (for free with my insurance). It was the same old song and dance, try this seizure drug, this antidepressant. Even in the hospital it was DHE which I've had already many times, nerve blocks, spinal tap, etc. If they accept your health insurance it's definitely worth a shot, I'm sure that they've helped many people. If you have to pay cash and aren't independently wealthy, tread very very lightly. Every time you have a procedure, test, receive a medication, EVEN fill out a form or evaluation, ask what this will cost. ESPECIALLY in the hospital. Even if the hospital accepts your insurance, you still have to ask because for everything the hospital charges your insurance, mhni will charge you a (large) separate fee. If mhni doesn't accept your insurance, I would strongly suggest you find a neurologist that does accept it and exhaust all their treatment options first. If you are lucky enough to have insurance that mhni accepts, this is a better place to go for chronic migraine, just because they may attain the same result quicker. I was at the hospital with a woman who left pain free. But her chronic migraines were a new development and a nerve block was the solution. The two other ladies I became friendly with had long-term chronic migraines like me. And like me, they left no better off than they had come. On a good note, the hospital is a much more comfortable place to be than your average neurology floor in a hospital. Dr. Saper is very kind and I know that if there was anything else he could have done for me, he would have. The majority of the nursing staff is wonderful and helpful at Chelsea. Hopefully my case is unusual, and I have to wait for medical science to catch up. If you are reading this, I wish you the best of luck. I hope that you find relief.

Went here in the late 90's when they had a good reputation. Came back in 2016. In 2017 I went into the Chelsea hospital program (3rd time). They put me on a combination of medications that horrified my pharmacist friend, and resulted in a GI bleed. Wasted a few days in hospital getting an Upper and Lower GI thanks to their carelessness. Once I left the hospital, I was so drugged into oblivion that my boss didn't allow me to drive home when I returned to my part-time job. I haven't had much improvement, and it will take a week of phone tag if you need to get in contact with them. I had a horrific migraine while advocating on Capitol Hill for migraineurs, and they left me without help and unable to even speak to anyone at the clinic. When I got home, I attempted to make an emergency appointment but they couldn't/wouldn't get me in with my doctor or any of their other neurologists. At another point, I told my doctor I could not afford a compunded medication that gave me mild/moderate relief. Instead of working to find something else, she turned to my mother, who drove me that day, and suggested that she should pay for it. This is completely unacceptable and inappropriate behavior. Edit: I recieved a letter from the director, stating that he will decide whether or not they will continue with my care, as I have angered him with a negative review of the clinic. Instead of inviting me to discuss my concerns in person, Dr. Saper has stated that "it would be quite appropriate" for me to remove my review and threatened me with discharge of care. The letter also claims my review is "unwarranted and self-centered" and "concerning only my comfort without regard to... safe medical practice" (The letter is only focused on one small part of my review). The letter also denigrates migraines by referring to them as "headaches." As a longtime advocate, I've never heard of ridiculous antics like this at well-respected clinics. I can't help but notice the only reviews that prompt a response (as of 4-19) are negative. This seems extremely defensive for a clinic. I doubt that every positive review recieves a thank-you note from Dr. Saper. I wonder how many patients have been bullied into removing negative reviews because they didn't know where else to go (I suggest support groups; Facebook has a variety that can suggest quality migraine or headache specialists), and I assume the average is skewed. In regard to standards of safe medical practice, I ask: - Is it safe (or responsible) to presribe opioids to a minor? I was 17 when your clinic put me on oxycontin, which caused me to vomit multipe times a day (at the same time every day, I might mention, which should point to the med). Instead of helping me come off of it safely, immediately, when I reported this, you made me get an Upper GI exam, which took upwards of 7 hours because I kept vomiting the barium, and make a retun visit at a later point. - Is it safe (or responsible) to put a teenager with no history of seizures on anti-epileptic drugs to treat migraines, and keep her on high doses for years? Your clinic did, and now I am unable to titrate my dose down significantly or come off of my most recent ("recent" being over 15yrs) AED without having a seizure. - Is it safe to put a patient with a history of ulcer on a combination of IV Toradol & IV Magnesium for several days? You did at my last inpatient visit, and it resulted in a GI bleed, and then more days of my hospital time was wasted getting Upper and Lower GIs because of your carelessness. - Is it safe or responsible to take away one of the only helpful abortive medications and give no replacement to a patient who says that worsening pain is causing severe depression? Your doctors did this to me in 2018. I'm choosing to take my business elsewhere. Other chronic intractable migraine patients: I suggest you look elsewhere. They might be fine for episodic, but unless you're looking to be put on a multitude of medications (which will still leave you incapacitated due to the side effects), this isn't the place for you.

This has been the most amazing experience of my life. I came in with headaches daily at a 5 and I am leaving here with a 0-1. I am so grateful for this program as we do not have anything that compares and Dr. Saper is the best at what he does.

Shannon Thompson

The medical staff is compassionate, empathetic and very thorough. They listen to you as a patient and care about your feedback on your daily care. You, as a patient, always know what is going on and everything is very structured and explained to you. I was a patient at the Diamond Headache Clinic last Fall and their program does not compare to MHNI. This program is by far top notch. I would highly recommend this program to anyone suffering from migraines. I have had migraines for almost 40 years and am very happy with my stay here.

Cynthia Mitchell

The entire staff was extremely helpful . Everyone from the doctors, pa, and nurses took their time to listen you and respond to as you were and active partner in your care. In addition, I really liked the daily consultations since everyone involved in my care was present therefore everyone was on the same page. This process eliminated miscommunication.

When my son reached puberty at age 12, he started to get migraines so severe that he cried himself to sleep every night for about six months. We went to our family doctor, a pediatric neurologist, chiropractor, acupuncturists, dietitians and on and on and on. And no lasting relief at all. We live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and have an extraordinary medical care system. However, nobody could relieve our otherwise healthy son of his severely painful migraines. They were so bad, that he had to suspend playing hockey, and miss school. He was otherwise a very healthy young man. We were advised, to do as many tests as possible that were covered by OHIP, Ontario Health Insurance Plan, which MHNI gladly accepted. They added multiple tests on our son. And within a month, he was 100% fully cured. I myself became a patient. Last summer I asked if I could hug Dr. Saper, because I was so grateful for his help in fully curing our son, who has grown up to be a happy, healthy young man. I give MHNI my five enthusiastic stars. It was worth every single penny that we paid, which ended up being about $1,200 CAD including gas and hotel Thank you Dr. Saper. Thank you to all the nurses and professionals at MHNI. I have referred MHNI many times and I wholeheartedly endorse their treatments.

MHNI provided a confirmation of a diagnosis and a $7,000 MRI from their friends at St. Joseph Mercy at Chelsea.

Dr. Saper is very attentive and I felt like he knew who I was. Not just a patient but a person. Also felt the same about Dr. DaSilva. He called me by name one morning when I had not seen him for a month. Everyone seems to do their homework. Always followed through with my questions and concerns.

I went to MHNI in 2017 for their inpatient treatment at Chelsea Hospital. They had me on Benadryl most of the time, which I have a sensitivity to, and slept a lot while there because of it. They did nothing for my migraines, but put in my file they improved remarkably. They tried several nerve blocks that didn’t help, then did a lumbar puncture that has left me with lower back pain since. I did not have any pain in my back before that time. They sent me home on a lot of meds they hadn’t tried me on. I don’t remember my trip home because it had me so messed up. My neurologist immediately took me off what MHNI prescribed. I will never go back there and will tell anyone that is thinking about going not to do it. The doctors only spend a few minutes with you each morning, and don’t really offer any help. Took me over a week to get them to take me off the Benadryl.

Karen Osakaman

I have had nothing but incredible care at MHNI. They never give up on me even when my headaches seem to evolve over time and my treatment needs to be "tweaked." My primary care physician also thinks very highly of them and refers patients to them all the time. Thank you, thank you!!

Don Green

The hospital stay was like being a dart board. They threw tons of meds at me, Which made me worse, and they do a ton of injections without looking at any films. Worked with them for a year, with no good results. Then they decided they couldn't do anything. And just said there's nothing they can do. And this is after they didn't look at one film only reports. I'm super disappointed in the care I received. I was off work for an extra 2 months due to the meds they had me on. It's just a big money grab in my eyes. I went to countless appointments and I just missed one and they charged me one hundred dollars. Good luck, maybe they can accidentally find something wrong. I'm going on my fifth year of headaches. I've had three days I felt almost zero head pain in those 4 + years. And I can not say that even one day was because of their treatment.

Arianne Daume

no one gives up on you here. Dr Saper is willing to keep trying!!! Dr DiSalva is very approachable and listens to everything.

Lori Ubelhor

Doc Saper was attentive and sincere. Made patient feel as though their particular case was special and was not lumped into a category with a one size fits all approach. We are happy with the outcome starting with Doc Sinka at the clinic to release at Chelsea. All staff are very professional,on time and attentive. Hospital was very accommodating.

Sondra S

Everyone here is very caring and compassionate. I would recommend this place to anyone dealing with chronic daily headaches and migraines. They are also very helpful dealing in neck pain.

I AM SO ANGRY!!!!!! Our daughter has suffered with migraines for many years. They have gotten progressively WORSE. After trips to Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville FL we were referred to MHNI by the doctor at Mayo. After jumping through all of the hoops and traveling over 1,200 miles and spending $1,400 just to get there we were told today that she would not be admitted. WHY??? Because she needs to get off of some of her meds????? We were told that MHNI would resolve all of this. The doctors are the reason she is on ALL of these meds!!! What are we to do?????? Where do we go now???? Please, please someone please tell us where to go now??????? I am TOTALLY disappointed with MHNI!!!!!!!!! How the hell do you get admitted to get the help??????????

MHNI has changed my life. I was having weekly migraines and my job was in jeopardy. Since coming here health has made a miraculous improveme.

The doctors and nurses were great. Everyone of them made me feel welcome. I am pretty far from home so I was a little scared. But they were super great. I love all of these people.

MHNI and Chelsea Hospital are wonderful! The team in its entirety shows dedication, professionalism and personal concern. Their multi-disciplinary approach ensures a thorough strategy to help assess, manage and in my case resolve 40 years of migraines. Normal has never been more beautiful and well worth the trip from Florida to Michican. Dr. Saper, Dr. Prestegaard, Dr Sharma and the many nurses (RN/LPN/CNA's) were fabulous. They were kind, patient and persistent. I am thankful for having the opportunity to participate and find resolution to the management of my migraines. I know that it will be a lifelong process, but I now have the tools to do so. Thank you ALL! Sue

If your in pain go to see what they can do here. I found a new life, a miracle. You will not be disappointed.

The staff at MHNI and at the inpatient Head Pain Unit are very knowledgeable, having a depth of experience with conditions such as chronic migraine. The treatment both during my inpatient stay as well as the outpatient treatment plan developed are and will be very helpful in managing my condition of chronic migraine. A big 'Thank You!!' to all the staff of MHNI and the Head Pain Unit.

Kasey Guerra

All of the doctors have always taken their time with answering questions and listening. Dr Tariq is our primary dr at the clinic and we dearly love the man. Very compassionate and caring. He takes his time with us to help find treatment.

I have been going to MHNI since my early 30's. I am now 67 yrs old. I have had migraines since I was in my early 20's, remembering how difficult is was to raise 2 small children, taking/picking them up from activities that children do......Scouts, dancing lessons, sports, and suffering. Migraines run in my family ........ my mother, my sister and myself. Their migraines subsided with menopause, while mine didn't. MHNI keeps my severe migraines under control through preventative medication. Other migraine medications I use for mild ones or take them when I feel a migraine coming on. MHNI does not give opioids. Migraines are a complex condition. The preventative medications are also complex to put the right ones together. Whenever I had an interaction to a medication or ones that did not provide me with relief, my doctor would try other combinations. It may take time, but I knew I was at the best place for my migraines as well as other sufferers, that I met, who traveled as far from California and Maine. The doctors are very educated about what different drugs do and how they work for migraines and they educate their patients, as well. The doctors and nurses are kind and patient. After all these years my migraines have lessened. I know what triggers them and have learned a lot about my body. I can tell if a headache will be mild or severe and take my medication as directed by my doctor. The most important thing to remember is that migraines are a difficult chronic condition. They are a mystery as to why they happen and there is no cure. You have to be patient, take medications as directed, listen to signs that your body tells you and continue to work and communicate with your doctor. There is a life with migraines and I highly recommend MHNI to help with them.

Dustin Conley

The MHNI team easily exceeded all of my expectations. They were very caring and understanding and were able to help me when no one else could. If you have head pain this is definitely the place to go!

Karla K

All of the doctors put in numerous amounts of hours making decisions on my medications and procedures I needed. Overall, I am feeling better and I am extremely grateful to the entire staff. I think they are all thoughtful and wonderful people.

Ariel Moreno

Everyone was extremely helpful. I received information, education, encouragement and comfort. Everyone treated me as if I was important and my symptoms were legitimate. I felt like the medical team worked together well to minimize my head pain which had been ongoing for 7 years. Not only did I receive excellent care but I was able to attend educational classes and I was encouraged to interact with other patients which helped enhance my care. Thank you MHNI and St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea for your help in diagnosis and treatment of my condition.

Lisa P

Very knowledgeable and compassionate about his patients. Willingness to work with his patients versus him making all the decision without input from his patients. Ensures his patients are taken care of an not in pain or uncomfortable.

Cindy Thompson

Top notch in the field of headaches with Dr. Saper and his staff. I had great results after spending 10 days as an inpatient.

Missy Gibson

Worst place ever. Do not go unless you want to be made to feel like you are “crazy.” This place thinks if you see a psychologist, and take their “protocols,” which are the same things any other doctor has ever tried, then you will be feeling much better. I traveled thousands of miles to come here, only to be tried to talked into doing crafts, make new friends, and listen to their half nutty physiologist analyze me. I don’t want summer camp, just headache relief. This place is a joke!! Apparently the physician at this clinic doesn’t like anyone calling him out and his “crazy” tactics. I went to this center because I have suffered with migraines for over 20 years. I went in with a very positive attitude and was hoping for a viable treatment plan. When I arrived at the facility I had a very odd feeling about the place, which I tried to dismiss. I was given a tour of the hospital and was told of some of the rules that I would be expected to follow. I honestly felt like I was in a rehab facility, based on things I have heard about them. I was given a list of classes to attend which included N.A., AA, crafts, yoga, chapel, etc. I am all for being a well rounded person, but in a hospital setting I feel I am there to take care of myself medically and hopefully find new treatments that would work for me. For this physician to say that I was “threatened” by their treatment plan is another “joke.” I would have stayed the entire time that treatment was recommended if I was not treated like a child. Do I think that migraine pain can cause issues that may need to be addressed by a psychologist or another professional in that field? Yes, I am sure there is validity in that. I do not however believe that the “psychological” component is the primary reason for migraines, unlike the physicians in this clinic. Going to a craft class or a dog therapy class is not going to decrease my pain, and I sincerely believe if someone truly suffers from severe migraines as I do, that they will not receive pain relief from those things either. I was also told that I needed to try as many “abortive” medications as possible. These could be tried every four hours as told to me by the physicians. When I asked for an abortive from the nursing staff, I was given a rude “NO.” “You can wait for your iv protocol that is in three hours,” as stated by my nurse. In a nut shell if you are looking to do crafts, meet some new people, try some medications that I’m sure most of you have tried, then go for it. If you just need a vacation from your family and have good insurance, this might be the place for you. If you are looking for serious intensive help, I would recommend looking elsewhere!!

Julia Loutzenhiser

MHNI has helped me already and it has only been a couple months since my first appointment. After a hospital stay and thorough data collected, they have decreased my pain level by 1 to 2 points on the 5 point pain scale. That is such a blessing after 9 years of daily migraines ranging from a 3 to 5 on the pain scale each day. The doctors are very persistent and determined to solve my migraines. I left the office today thanking my doctor and her last words as she left the room were, "Well, we're not done yet." They work with the worst 3-5% of migraine sufferers and are determined to help. I feel very blessed to have been led to them after years of research from individual doctors that were phenomenal, but only had pieces to solve my puzzle. MHNI was able to put all those pieces together working as a team.

Sandra Garner

MHNI is nothing short of a miracle! After four months of almost daily severe headaches, including vomiting and medications that left me sleeping all day, I was referred to MHNI. From day one the entire staff had my comfort and care as their priority. After 8 days in the hospital, the exact treatment for me was found!! I am now 3 full months headache free and can once again enjoy daily life!! I am truly bless with Dr. Saper and his entire staff!!!

Ashley W

Once the Doctors understand your condition (pains, fears and discomfort) every effort is made to help you find your best solution. I found this hospital very clean, friendly and as relaxing as a hospital can be...Ashley W.

A very bad experience here with my son who had been suffering with migraines for months. Dr. Weintraub was very short and unfriendly. He prescribed what I consider to be something worthy of medical malpractice---serotonin inhibiting drugs to a patient who was diagnosed by their own pyschologist as having depression. Only 3 days on those meds and his behavior tanked. When I called to ask about the meds I NEVER HEARD BACK!!! The doc also never responded to my question about another med he prescribed which cost $2600 after my insurance (We did NOT get that prescription!!). This place definitely runs a lot of expensive tests (and unfortunately this was out of network for us). I feel that they charge way too much for extremely poor service. They actually wanted to charge me $25 to fill out a form for the school saying that my son could have his meds at school. No way. No doctor's office charges for that. That type of service is a given. We could not afford to return here and I felt the doctor was extremely incompetent. The nurses were not helpful and were the only ones you could talk to via phone...and that was if you happen to catch them while they're available or if you're available when they decide to finally call you back. No way was this place worthwhile to go to. And, as it turns out, the only worthwhile doc there was the psychologist who said he "might" be depressed. Once we started working on that the migraines disappeared and all the stupid meds that Weintraub prescribed were completely unnecessary. These people do not seem to know what the heck they are doing. Thank goodness we stopped going there after just one visit. Incompetent Doctor, Incompetent nurses, high cost, unnecessary tests, unnecessary drugs, very poor choice of drugs. Zero stars.

Every interaction with MHNI has been outstanding. They listen They treated me I feel better than I have in years.

James Henderson

They were out of my insurance network and did absolutely nothing to help with coordinating an appointment. Never made it there.

Basically did nothing for me They just replied to my review saying in 40 years there's no patient with my name Really lmao , hmmmm

all my dr's and staff were more than kind, helpful and caring. i came in with a pain level of 4-5 with depression. i am now leaving 8 days later with a pain level of 0-1 and feel little depression.

I really have no complaints. The doctors at NHMI were aggressive with treatment and got the job done!!! I was starting to give up on ever fixing my headaches, until I heard about you. I was still skeptical at first because I always get my hopes up just to be let down again. But right from the start it gave me a sense of hope, and a battle not to give up on. I cannot thank everyone enough for there time, support, and wonderful care that I have received here. Everyone is always smiling, and the nurses are always so willing to actually take the time to explain things to me. I cannot thank Dr. Saper and his wonderful team enough for what they have created here and for the services they continue to provide!!! You truly have changed my life forever, I could not have gotten through this with out my husband and family, bless there heart. Now after I have kids I can imagine all the things I will not miss and start thinking about all the things I can be there for!!! I appreciate everyone who played such a role in this whole process. They are AMAZING!!!

I was very satisfied with the staff, they were always available, acommodating, patient and considerate. They made me feel that I was getting the best of care. All of my nurses gave me excellent care and they were very kind and helpful, Denise, Karen, Wendy,Sharon, Kelly, Holly and Ann, they all provided great care. Barb and Burt also made sure I was comfortable and did everything they could for me.

The majority of office visits the doc was on time. The doc always listens to my concerns and she and her staff are compassionate and caring going out of their way to help me. --Jasmine C.

I have a first appointment coming up. Reading these reviews is scaring me. I have really good insurance. I have daily headaches and neckpain and had seizures that started at age 55 out of the blue. I am 59 now. I am hoping these doctors can help me. I do not think I am having migraines. I think it is a different kind of headache. I have not seen anyone before that is an actual professional headache doctor. You all are really scaring me that I am making a mistake when I read you say that this place is just in it for the money. I am not sure what to do.

Especially above and beyond were services provided by Dr. Saper, Dr. Tariq, P. A. Gayle, Nurses Jill and Karen. Nice touches in the hospital were that room service was provided by friendly staff off off a menu into private patient rooms. All staff were exceptionally friendly and courteous, which was helpful when you are deaing with head-pain. Was really glad that I came!

tl;dr: Only go here if your insurance participates and you're in state. You'll probably be disappointed otherwise. I first went to MHNI over a year ago for a headache that just wouldn't go away. I'm located locally and my insurance participated, so why not? A simple check up appointment might go like this: get called back, wait 10-15 minutes, nurse comes in and talks to you, wait 30-45 min, doctor comes in and does the physical exam/asks questions, wait 15-20 min for the nurse to come back with your prescriptions and paperwork, and cross your fingers that there isn't a line at the check out because that'll add time too. And, that's probably a good day for them. Just make sure you have enough time and patience on appointment days! If they recommend being admitted to the hospital, the process can best be described as torture. They're honest with you when you get there about the side effects of the drugs, but it's not until you're going through the protocol that you realize how miserable it is. I had three injections per day of medications that constrict and irritate your blood vessels. So, it was like having tiny needles injected into your veins every 8 hours. On top of that, my IV kept going bad so they had to move it every couple days. The upside to being there is that the food is actually pretty decent, the hospital staff is amazing, and they can cycle you through a lot more abortive medications to find ones that work or provide some relief. Someone else recommended going here to get a diagnosis/treatment plan and then transferring your care and I think that's sound advice. If you're out of state or you have bad insurance, then I think you're better off finding care elsewhere. Bottom line: they provide average care at platinum pricing. It's up to you to decide if it's good value or not.

I was a patient with chronic migraine w/o aura, not responsive to conventional treatment. I can't say enough good things about MHNI!! I was so sick when I first went, but when I was finally able to leave, I was off heavy narcotics and doing great.

She did a good job of explaining but missed some of the things I said along the way, not understanding all I was trying to get across. After I doubled back it was good.

I started with MHNI 2 years ago. It started off very good, with my finally getting a correct diagnosis. I have both clusters and chronic migraine. Unfortunately my experience with MHNI has declined over the past 2 years. My neurologist left the practice and instead of being assigned a new neurologist, I was instead assigned to the head of MHNI which really means that I only see a nurse practitioner. My migraine abortive can only be prescribed in 8 doses. It is an ergot, not an opioid or pain med. MHNI refuses to refill the Rx unless I come in for another appointment. Nothing has changed in my migraines, this is the abortive I have been on for 2 years. I would not have a problem going in for another appointment if I a) actually was seen by a neurologist and b) if when I went I wasn't there for HOURS because they are always running massively behind. So, now I am stuck with no meds. My suggestion is to go here for a diagnosis and to get on a treatment plan and then transfer care elsewhere. ***edited for response to MHNI response. Periodic is not an issue. Nor would I have wished for unlimited meds. I know ergots carry risks. However, that has nothing to do with not having a neurologist at the clinic, only a NP, and has zero to do with waiting for hours at an appointment simply to get a refill. I'm a female episodic cluster patient, and from what I was told before my neurologist left there, I was the only one. So, you would think maybe I would get an actual neurologist to see me when I came in. Because like MHNI responded, ergots carry risks and need proper evaluation. If I'm going to repeatedly see a NP, then please just refill my meds, give me a MD and not a 3 hr appointment and I would have come in 2x a year. Would also like to add that your requirement for visits for refills (non-narcotic) seems like nothing else but racking up $$$. Because it is billed as a neurology appointment even when a neurologist isnt seen.
