I go here for myself (ob) and my son (pediatrician) I love the quality of care I receive when I go. I recently had a very disheartening test result but my doctor called me listened to my concerns and made sure she checked on me the next day to make sure I was ok and to double check our health plan for the next few weeks. She recognized I was upset and made sure to talk the next day when I was more clear headed and she was just as sympathetic and caring the second day as the first. Makes it so much easier to trust your doctor when you know they truly care about you and your care.

Very unsatisfied i have been having increasing problems over the last few months with gi upset. I have been diagnosed in 2011 with ibs but have been managing it for the most part on my own with minimal instructions otherthan take miralax everyday. However in the past 3 months ive had problems swallowing and increase in neasua during or shortly after eating. Finally decided i have to be seen , only to recieve a vag diet and not being refered to a gi speacialist. Also have been having lower back issues not sure if related or not. Not doing much better tried to schedule another appt or a prescription i could recieve for ibs -c until my own refereal to the gi doctor. Nurse says she will want to see me nkt just perscribe so i move my work schedule around and one hour before the appt the doctor says she wants to cancell my appt there is nothing for the gi issues at this point and is not my pcp , she wouldnt even see me for my back . I have never had a doctor cancell an appt !!! Apparently doctors dont care for there patients so I Will be getting my records and leaving this practice all together!

Dr. Suvarna Bhat and the staff at this center are unprofessional and incompetent. In 2012, Given my pertinent family history of Hashimoto's, thyroid cancer, and clinical presentation, Dr. Bhat did not order a complete thyroid panel. She did, however, run many tests for very rare autoimmune diseases for which I have no family medical history. Now, after some experience in the medical field, pre-med and biology education, working in a hospital (my mother is also a doctor) I realize how incompetent this medical professional is. She dismissed many of my claims and clinical presentations, yet still referred me to an endocrinologist and stated I had an enlarged thyroid with nodules that she could easily feel with palpation. When I went to the endocrinologist, she stated that Dr. Bhat was wrong, and that I, in fact, did not have a thyroid that could be termed "enlarged" by palpation. The Endo stated that I just had a long, thin neck, anatomically. My nodules were sub-centimeter and therefore, it is also unlikely she could have felt them. I have since made an appointment this past Feb. to be seen in May. She rescheduled me THREE TIMES since then. Twice, because she was "sick", and once due to "scheduling error". Now the earliest I can get in is end of August. That is a full 7 months from the initial date I called in. If I want to switch PCPs, which, by the way, she has to "approve" ( I doubt she will), I won't be seen until November 28th. The staff on the phone was discourteous, had an attitude, was not clear or thorough in her speaking, and was rude when I tried to clarify. She did not acknowledge my frustrations, or make any attempt to right the situation. I am extremely displeased with this center and will be taking my business elsewhere. If I do come back positive for Hashimoto's disease, I will most likely have been living with this condition for a long time. Dr. Bhat will have therefore diminished my quality of life and health for YEARS. DO NOT GO HERE. update: Oh my god. So, after my mom encourages me to seek a patient advocate regarding all the incompetence at U of M Canton Health Center, I call and the lady is super nice until I say the words "patient advocate". Then her tone immediately switches and she starts asking about "what I need to complain about". I told her I didn't call to complain but to seek resolution on being rescheduled 3x and having to wait (NOW) a total of 10 months from my original call date to see a PCP. I didn't mention the part about how she didn't run appropriate thyroid testing during prior visits, or how the previous receptionist said that my current PCP Dr. Suvarna Bhat needed to "approve my transfer" to another PCP at the facility. ( I am pretty sure I have the right to choose my own PCP, especially after malpractice inflicted by Dr. Bhat, see "patient abandonment") Long story short she put me on a dead silent hold for an hour which pretty much means she was just hoping I'd hang up and go away, lol, WHICH I DID. I am done trying to work with this place. If I could give them 0 stars I would.

Don't go to Dr.Mittleman. I started seeing her as a teenager and told her about these intense, horrible stomach pains I had every day of my life. So bad sometimes, I could barely stand. She accused me of not wanting to go to school and wouldn't write me notes. So for the rest of high school, I suffered, almost failing because of this pain. I went to the hospital one night it got so bad. Turns out, I have GERD and stomach ulcers. Thanks for nothing, Mittleman. There are good doctors here, though. Like Mr. Davis and Dr. Smith.

Great medical staff, HORRIBLE billing and scheduling department. Every single time I go in for an appointment, I pay my copay...and every single time, U of M sends me a receipt 6 months - 1 year later claiming that I owe them money for the same appointments that I previously had paid for. Zero sense of urgency with scheduling...."Oh, you're extremely sick and need to see someone? Hmmmm well I have an opening 11 months from now, how's that?". I have just gone to urgent care down the street so many times because I do not want to deal with the incompetence in the front office. Great medical staff though (even most of them know the troubles with billing and scheduling)!

dave gillespie

the Dr.s are great .but answering service and nurse call back is terrible, waited on hold for a hour and a half with no answer.will be going somewhere else as soon as i can.would not even rate them a 1star.they need to address this problem or they wont have loyal patience, people will go else were. was a fan of u of m because of motts and neo nate unit but this place has ruined that

Natalie

Just go to urgent care, you’re going to end up there anyway. You either won’t be able to get an appointment, or they’ll do such a lousy job at treating you, you’ll wind up there a day or two later. Expect to be on the phone for 45 minutes every time you want to make an appointment too.

Jeremy Jones

Awful. I call to find out if they take my insurance and I'm treated like I'm bothering them. Rude. Maybe the people you have answering your phones could be a bit more helpful. Thanks but no thanks I'll go elsewhere.

Mandy Seavolt

My OB/GYN is here and I have been going for years. It's always clean and I never have a problem getting in. I also always have my labs done here and have done PT here. In and out, friendly staff I have no idea why the low ratings this is not a dive. Apparently the people rating this place have not been to other health centers.

Chris Cook

Honestly, the doctors I have seen here are wonderful and great. The secretary staff here though could honestly care less about the patients. I have not had one had conversation with a nurse who helped me get a form, referral, or answer from a doctor EVER and I’ve been going here for a decade. Very sad that they represent U of M who is supposedly the best in the medical industry. I will say your doctors (at least the ones I’ve dealt) have been nice and thorough with info but your nursing staff is just awful. At least the ones who take phone calls are. Consider giving them a new training course on how to be more courteous on the phone and not annoyed/impatient for someone who is politely asking for information. What set me over the top is my last encounter over the phone with one of the secretaries. I asked what the diagnosis codes were on the referral so I can relay the information to my insurance to get compensated, and after 15 minutes (I kid you not) of trying to obtain that information I finally got it after pulling teeth.I just kept hearing that’s not something I have access too, I can’t see your insurance blah blah blah. But honestly, if you don’t know how to find something, don’t just give up and tell me to call the insurance, why don’t you ask someone or do what I’m saying and pull up the referral that I flew from Orlando and took the week off work just to get so you can get your $25 copay. Oh, and by the way, I guess that wasn’t good enough because I went to my follow up appointment and the referral needs to be resent and it’ll take 24-48 hours. What in the world do you need to do? I’m sitting at the doctor’s office looking like an idiot, took off work AGAIN and you can’t expedite something for me? Oh it’s cool, probably got more important things to do. Can’t wait to move on from this place, this isn’t the U of M that I know, better off driving to CVS and getting medical advice from their pharmacist. So done with the medical industry in this country oh yeah and that was back in January, and here I am in almost August and it’s still not sorted. Thank you for assistance.

This place doesn’t even deserve 1star worst run place I’ve ever been too. Took forever to get in as a new patient and the doctor I got barely talks and doesn’t make an effort to look into anything, in and out in minutes. My daughter had the same problem, went in for one thing and had another issue pop prior to her visit and was told I don’t have time to address another issue you have to come back another day. This doctor has treated her before for the same issue but didn’t feel like even dealing with her at all really, they just want to get paid and get you out quick. Worst office I’ve ever been to.

Kara Gavin

I have been taking my daughter to Med-Peds since she was born, and have had a great experience with the doctors and staff. Med-Peds patients have access to the "regular" pediatrics doctors during Saturday morning hours, which are great for things that can't wait til Monday. The on-site blood draw labs, and the big fish tank in the Peds/Med-Peds waiting room, are two more pluses.

James Howard

Came here for an ophthalmology appointment to remove a piece of metal from my cornea the size of a speck of dust. They “fit me in” for a late afternoon appointment and I showed up about 30 minutes early so I could fill out paperwork. After completing everything on my end, I sat in the waiting room for about 45 minutes. There was a sign saying to contact the front desk if you haven’t gone back later than 30 minutes after your appointment time (bad sign for a patient). So I did that and waited another 30 minutes before going back to the room. There the nurse checked me in and told me they were backed up so it might take a while and that I was lucky they would even fit me in this afternoon which made me feel really valued. From there I waited almost and hour (2:15 waiting if you’re counting) and then the doctor came in. He performed the simple task in about 15 minutes and sent me on my way. This was all done on 11/15/2018, and I just received my bill on Monday 1/14/2019 for a total of over $750. $750 for using a stick to flick something out of my eye and making me wait over 2 hours past my appointment time. Shame on this place for gouging their customers and not actually providing care. $360 in just “Hospital costs” $400 in “Professional costs” I will never be back here again. And I hope this review encourages you to do the same!

They treat you like a number! I was not even 15 minutes late, and they would not see me. When I told the front receptionist that I had waited a month for the appointment and that I would wait longer that day if necessary, she said her hands were tied. She didn't even ask the doctor again!! Besides their hold wait times on the phone are ridiculous anyway! What a crappy first impression, and I won't be going back, I can guarantee that!!!!

Jan Wade

Tried to get my senior in laws parents who just moved here from out-of-state in to see a Dr. I was very rudely and abruptly told that don't take new patients. They definitely need to work on manners!

Michele Weaver

Front desk always helpful and friendly, optometry great. Clean. But rest of the place leaves a lot to be desired. Wait times long, staff rude and uninformed. Somewhat disabled friendly, in great need of more wheelchairs. Layout confusing. Not enough parking. Lab for blood draws opens at 7am which is nice. Hardly any testing done on-site. You are better off driving a bit more to the new, updated facility in Northville.

I honestly loved the place. The staff was nice, the offices were clean, they have lots of parking, and fast service! This place definitely deserve five stars! This is not a waste of time, you should definitely go there if you have any problems.

Pretty surprising for University of Michigan I use to know. I have been attending this location my entire life. Twenty one years of my life. From the time I was a kid it was excellent clean, fast and efficient. As soon as I just recently started going here (2014-now) it has become apporid to say the least. For the past two years I have had a really hard time breathing. Not like breathing is serious or anything... I have went three times to see the same doctor about the issue. First scheduling an appointment is often impossible, then when you arrive it takes hour/s to be seen. Now I cannot speak for all doctors but the one I see is unbelievable! After waiting over an hour in the waiting area I am placed in a examination/check up room then it takes another thirty plus minutes to even see my doctor. On three occasions about the same issue he comes in talks to me for less than ten minutes after I waited forever to see him, blows off my questions and sends me away with a prescription of Claritin. Guess what the Claritin didn't work so here I go again back to this miserable place in hopes to breath again... I hope I don't quit breathing for the hour plus I'm waiting in the waiting room because I still most likely won't see anyone to help me.

My sons dad and I went to take our 2 day old newborn here. As usual it was our first time here so we had a hard time finding the place but we finally did and we were about 5 minutes late I apologized to the receptionist she then said to me I hear that excuse all the time. So I checked in and sat down they called us in to see the doctor the one I wanted to see was on vacation so I saw someone else. When she came in she said he was very healthy but because I was a young mom she suggested we take a parenting class ( another thing the tax payers pay for) I said no my mom is a nurse with 5 kids If we are going to learn how to be parents it is going to be from her. She got an attitude and said to us well I am going to have one of our social workers call you in a couple of days. I did not say anything after that but I wish I did. When it was time to check out someone was in front of us the lady at the counter in a very rude tone said I will be with you guys in a minute 15 minutes later my son started getting fussy so I said 5 more minutes and we are leaving 5 minutes passed and we got up and left. A week later sure enough the social worker called me asking me every question you can think of acting like she had a right to know and asked if I was sure I did not want to take a parenting class. I gave the phone to my mom and she told her off My son is 1 year old now and is happy and healthy as can be. I will never go to U of M ever again. I would not even take a dog here

I have seen my son's pediatrician ONE TIME since he was born we have been going here for a year now ! Every time we come in we see a nurse practitioner and then a different doctor whom I've never met comes in and discusses what the NP has charted and then that's it they leave and then one or two nurses will come in with his injections they are always rude never friendly as if they are always having a bad day and we are just making it even worse. Don't let me forget they will get you back into a room from the waiting room pretty fast have you undress your child do the height and weight ask you to keep their clothes off but then only to make you wait for about a good hour before even being seen again. We are always in this office for a good solid 2 hours ... Not to mention if you have other small siblings you bring with you they tend to get bored fast and it makes it a recipe for disater and major meltdown's. Good luck ! Hopefully others have better experience.

Carolyn Monaco

If you are in need of a quick appointment for an acute matter, do not go to this clinic. They do not have any idea how to treat patients who need to get in the same day to their doctors and we all know this happens from time to time.

Christina Van Til

I am always seen within 20 minutes of my appointments. They often have same day or next day appointments available and they treat me and my family with care!

Brianna Wolf

Supposed to open at 7am. Needed to call and make an appointment asap, it's 7:30 and their office is still closed

Enjolras Josette

I go here regularly for infusions and cardio and gyno. The nurses in the infusion center are phenomenal, very detail and patient oriented. I use a service dog and they care about her comfort just as much as my own. The cardio I see is the best doctor I've ever had. Gyno is average. The non medical staff is wonderful as well.

Dawn Snider

Great doctors great staff! Everything I've come to expect from University of Michigan Health System. Just hard to get sick appointments. U of M needs an Urgent Care facility capable of accommodating walk ins.

I went in for some blood work my doctor requested, as this facility is closer to me than his is. At first there was a computer error of some kind wherein there was no request in for it, but the medical professional at the desk was kind and dedicated enough to call around until we got it sorted out and the orders got put through, it took some time but she never relented and her devotion to seeing my simple stuff through was marvelous. I regret only that I didn't ask her name, but she was a shining example of this facility's work. If I need any other tests I won't worry about the other reviews on here and just go back~

Keat Mah

Customer service is bad. Seem to be very inpatient and not willing to answer questions.

Meaghan B

The office staff were terrible. Very rude to me over the phone and acted like I was bothering them. They turn people in circles and don't try to help you for the simplest things. Good luck trying to get a check up, the stress of communicating with the office will be what creates your need for doctor appointments.

Aquice Ward

This office is DOWN RIGHT HORRIBLE! It takes months to get an appointment for some of the most simple things. For instance, I called today to schedule an appointment for my son to get his 4 year old injections and the best they could do is 3 months out. The operators who answer the phones are CLUELESS about most processes. If your child is sick you always end up and urgent care because getting an appointment is like winning the lottery. I rated it one star to write this review but please understand that this place does not deserve any stars. I found a new doctor today and got an appointment within minutes for January 11th. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME, ENERGY, OR INSURANCE CARD WITH THIS PLACE. How can you get to know your patients if you are never available. I hope this place closes down for good as it is the WORSE doctors office I have ever been too

Chris DeMarco

Nurses are terrible over the phone. Rude and ignorant of the patients chart. Lazy 'we're the best attitude' is rampant at all facilities and will force us out of this state to someplace with competent & compassionate care. UM is overrated in every facet. Doctors don't know how to deal with rare diseases and bounce you from one doctor to another. Instead of telling patients that you're the best and we won't get better care anywhere else how about teaching your nurses to actually READ the chart. The condition is Arteritis dealing with arteries not Arthritis and joints.

R Gibson

Yes it took time to get an appt. Initially. But overall they are good and generally concerned.

I LOVE the doctors at this practice. However, with the growth, and sheer volume of patients, you can forget about having a same day appointment, and every time you call, you'll wait on hold. Everyone is always very polite and the Doctors/Techs/Nurses can't be beat! I have a telephonic urgent care service for routine stuff (Strep, pink eye, etc.) because it's nearly impossible to be seen same day. I've also made the mistake of making a Monday appointment for a physical. I waited 45 minutes outside and then another 10 in the room. Make your appointment early and midweek and you'll be fine.

Arely Rangel

Bad customers service representative are very rude and unwilling to help.

Lisa .

Our son is 4 and has been treated by the pediatricians here since he was an infant. While it is difficult to get an appointment with his doctor on short-notice visits, ALL of the doctors he has seen have been exceptional. I have been seeing a physician at this location for about 2 years and always appreciate her candor, thoroughness and bedside manner. The nursing staff is wonderful. They always remember personal details from the last visit for both my son and me. I have never seen one without a smile on their face. My only complaint is the time you have to wait on the phone to make an appointment or speak with a nurse. However, once you have their attention they take their time with you and make sure you needs are met or your questions are answered. Knowing the quality of service I will be receiving helps with the wait time. I have doctors in other departments at UMHS and have similar experiences across the map (the hold time here has been the worst, though) for 10 years and counting. It is worth the 25+ mile drive to be treated by such a fantastic hospital system.

Went to the u for a sciatica issue and haven't received any support for the pain. I was given medication for the inflammatory reasons and does absolutely nothing. Was issued med for pain for one week apparently that's sciatica lasts. The doctor requested a CT scan and the spine doctor asked me why I had a scan done. Maybe because my doctor requested it. The spine doctor poked me with paper clip and said come back to see him after MRI. The MRI was scheduled for three weeks and his appointment is for four weeks after that. I amazed. I guess live with the pain. Time to make a decision

My wife and I have been going to UM Canton for 15 years and have had nothing but good experiences. The negative comments below surprise me but they seem centered around administrative matters for the most part as opposed to the quality of medical care received. Actually I cannot think of any medical facility that is any better administratively than mediocre. It is the weak link in the US system of delivering medical services, and I would give UM Canton only an average grade on their administrative side. But we don't go there for their administrative services but their medical services. And those medical services are excellent. Today I had an appointment that resulted in some tests being run with the test results being posted in my patient portal within two hours. You can't beat that turnaround time! And my prescription was waiting for me at CVS as well. Typical high quality medical care that we have come to experience at UM Canton these past 15 years. A word to the wise, though, about the use of UMs Patient Portal. While one would think that communicating with your PCP through the Portal would be secure and restricted to just your PCP, this is not true. All messages sent to physicians through the Portal are first reviewed by someone else (e.g., A RN, PA, or other assistant) who may act on your request without even contacting your physician (or you) first. This includes forwarding your note to other UM personnel without your consent. Therefore, do not post anything on UMs Patient Portal that you would not post on your Facebook page as chances are that your Portal posting will get broader distribution than anything on your Facebook page.

The doctors are great - everything else about this place is crap. If you need to talk to your doctor (they will get a message to him/her but you will never actually 'speak' to them), make an appointment (hope you planned ahead), get a refill (God forbid if you forgot to ask for a refill on your last visit) etc... you will be on hold a VERY long time. To aid your needs, you will also speak with a nasty/snide receptionist who forgets it's his/her job to help you. It should also be noted that if you THINK you need an appointment, the receptionist will convince you otherwise and either a) make you wait on hold again to speak with a nurse or b) leave a message for the nurse to call you back, which may/may not be received that same day. If you need an immediate appointment, don't count on it - just head to urgent care. I also have to admit I have had my share of nurses who behave like robots. There is nothing nurse-like about them aside from the tasks they are required to perform. Another customer service fail. It is beyond frustrating to deal with this nonsense each and every time my family and I have a medical need. As I stated earlier, the doctors ARE great, everything else is such a huge disappointment. I really wish someone would take complaints seriously and give this place an overhaul.

Michelle Costley

The doctors and nurses are wonderful, but the office personnel comes across as very unhelpful, uncaring, and sometimes downright rude. Very difficult to get an appointment when calling for an appointment.

Roxanne L

Physical Therapy department is wonderful. The rest will just let you get sicker. After years of poor care I left. Never going back!
