After what they did to that patient, putting her out in the cold with just socks and hospital gown I wouldn't take my worst enemy there. It only shows how they don't care for their patients. I hope to God that the patient family sues the hell out of them. As a matter of fact they should close the place down.

Avi Gewirtz

Excellent hospital where every single employee is kind and attentive.

Bell S

I will give 0 star for nurse and costumer service for this hospital !

Kesha B

Its not a good hospital...looks dirty in the rooms that are out of date...old equipment and facility. Staff is great tho.

This was my first time there and i was amazed its incredible !!!!

ceeeeeg .

Took very good care of me!...only complaint is beware of hospital fish from the kitchen, which is foul...go for the grilled chicken and the pork loin was outstanding! Also, skip scrambled eggs and go for hard boiled instead, so you don't need a straw to eat them..lol

My father had surgery today and we were here before 5:00 am but the valet parking attendant came out to assist me in parking my car. From there it was smooth sailing, the registration was about a 15 minute wait not bad at all since the room was full of patients that had to register. We went up to the visitors lounge and waiting for them to call my dad. All the nurses, the anesthesiologist, his doctor were so nice to me and really cared about my dad. I never waited and they were very attentive. The food was delicious and I enjoyed it pricey and all because I was there all day long and they did not give me a problem about staying overnight. They provided linens for me and made me feel comfortable. As I read the reviews, I was shocked and my experience was totally different. I guess there is always room for improvement and everyone/everything is always works in progress. The people that work at this hospital give there all and try to be excellent all the time but they are also human. I am just grateful for the care and wonderful bedside matter that you do not always get in Jersey.

My 1 year old son had a very rare syndrome that his primary and local hospital could not describe or diagnose. I took at trip here and when I left I was extremely satisfied with his results. The time and professional care that he received as well as the kid friendly environment! Thank you UMMC

MDSweetHeart .

Worst experience the whole 5 days I was there. Cell phone's are a problem with some of the staff saw a few doing personal video chats and personal phone calls. Attitudes need to be corrected. Hope I never have to make a visit to the trauma unit again.

Crystal Harrell

They run labs on people and never call you with the results. Then if you call about them they tell you that you have to come back to the ER and wait for your results.

"Patient Dumping"... (speechless)

Worst stay ever. Where to start doctor in the ER are rude and unprofessional. Then when I admitted to neuro floor 5 I was doing ok before one of incompetent nurses was going to inject me with medication that wasn't even for me. Had I not been well enough who's know what could have happened. She acted like it was some kind of joke. I would never want go here again for treatment place is a joke. The things you here from people that are suppose to take care of you. I will be calling someone to discuss why this nurse still has a job here.

Debra Morton

My Mother recently had corrective surgery on her spleen and had a huge hematoma removed. During her visit we had to BEG to have her room cleaned. ( trash cans never emptied, blood stains on the floor, blood in the sink, paper wrappers on the floor), and when we asked after the 3rd day for her to be bathed they tried to say she declined a bath when that was an outright lie! Worst of all, they don't verify patients. Her release was suspended twice due to patient mix up!!!!!!! This can NOT HAPPEN. That's just downright dangerous!!! If you can avoid hospitals in Maryland- please do!!!!

Allison Conner

My mother was discharged at 10 am but we were still waiting on them to physically let us leave at 7 pm. They actually slit her elbow to put in an iv, not accidentally but intentionally. They stopped a bunch of medications that we were explicitly told by doctors it would be dangerous to stop cold turkey. While some of the aides were pleasant, the charge nurse was wretched, mean and nasty. She acted like we were being unreasonable anytime we asked her a question about the discharge which was supposedly taking place or to clear up the medication confusion. They just made a bad situation so much worse and terrified my mother.

I give the doctors and nurses a 5 star rating. The morning attendant at their "Healing Garden" waiting area for family members of those in surgery a minus 5 stars. The whole process in which they handle those waiting on word for their precious loved ones undergoing surgery is HORRIBLE. They only give you updates every 2 hours on the hour (asking in advance for a 30 minute grace period). If you ask this woman any earlier than that you get an attitude. My loved one was having what was supposed to be a 4 hour surgery that ended up lasting 8 and all i got every 2 hours was "he's still in surgery" and boom on to the next person. I think with the money this hospital makes they could afford to put in computerized screens that would update you faster and more efficiently than this woman! The gentleman in the evening in the same area was wonderful however. He showed compassion and was never to busy to inquire about your loved one. He was respectful, caring, and actually told us that we could come to him at anytime and he would find out how our loved one(s) were. That that was his job. Maybe since most of the surgeries are done during the day time you all should move him to that shift. So warning, if you or a loved one is going there for surgery, especially in the day time be prepared to find out very little about what is going on. On the other hand once you leave this "waiting area" the staff was very friendly and helpful. They made my loved one feel as though he was the only patient. so KUDOS to the nurses, aids and docs. but Please rethink the way you handle loved ones in this "healing garden" area.

Bad service, dirty bathrooms. Left and went to GBMC way better

Basically the wait is slow ..very slow ..for the reputation of this hospital to be so high ..their actual service is below mediocre .Long story short my grandmother died here because of that very poor service. She had Carbon monoxide poisoning because she wasn't recieving enough oxygen in her lungs even though she was on an oxygen tank. Well the staff decided to let a new comer to get experience by having my grandmother as his patient instead of an experienced doctor . Anyway Very poor judgement here. BEWARE of the "doctors" that are just starting since this place is also where the students get to basically practice on patients with "supervision" of course. Anyway I recommend John Hopkins if anything.

Why is this DIRTY

Jaime Hillhouse

Daughter was transferred here from the hospital where she was originally admitted. Been here going on 4 days. Most nurses and doctors have been great but the rest of the staff at this hospital has to be the rudest people I have ever encountered. I have had enough of the treatment by this staff and will never choose nor have anyone I care about come here again. The cafeteria should have the health department called on them for the filthy upkeep of an eating area. We stopped eating there immediately.(Afraid to see what the kitchen looks like). Thank you University of MD for the disgusting treatment to families of the sick.

Johnny Johnson

Tbh they shouldn't even get a star they suck the doctors are dumb and nurses Dont care about patients they are always on there phone... Fyi never bring your child to this nicu they are terrible

Theresa Clark

CUT MY TOE OPEN AT 5 AM WENT TO THE ER AND WAS IN AND OUT WITHIN 2 HRS. THE DOCTOR AND NURSE WAS VERY FRIENDLY

DO NO GO TO THIS FACILITY. VERY CLOSE FAMILY MEMBER WAS BIENG TREATED HERE FOR CANCER. VISITED HIM ON A SATURDAY. HE WAS DOING WELL WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN HE WAS COMPLAINING OF SEVERE ABDOMINAL PAIN. THE ONLY THING THAT NURSES GAVE HIM WERE PAIN MEDS AFTER MEDS. IF NOTHING WAS WORKING THEY SHOULD OF NOTIFY THE DOCTOR IMMEDIATLY SO THEY WOULD ORDER MORE TEST. LONG STORY SHORT. MY UNCLE SUFFERED IN PAIN FOR NEARLY 6 HOURS WHEN THEY FINALLY DID A CT SCAN OR ULTRA SOUND THEY NOTICED FLUID OUTSIDE HIS STOMACH. AND DIED HOURS LATER OF SEPSIS. PLEASE DO NOT GO TO THIS FACILITY.

I had a dear friend, dealing with a life threatening illness, go to this hospital last weekend. They treated her, despite tests being done, as though she was schizophrenic and making it up in her head, and then when they discharged her, she was given a medication to take and told it was OTC and no prescription needed, despite my friend knowing it was not an OTC medication. The doctor insisted that it was and refused to write a prescription. After they left the hospital, they went to find the medication only to be told that it was by prescription only. When they called back to the hospital about this issue, they were told that once she was discharged she was no longer their responsibility. The lack of professionalism is astounding and each one of those doctors should be brought before a board for their actions. Do not go to this hospital, even if your life depends on it.

Debra Parks

I work there and although I use the cafeteria a lot, I very rarely sit down there to eat (I am always eating at my desk). Well, today my daughter came to the job to have lunch with me and we decided to eat in. We both had sushi, which was delicious and the cafeteria was bright with just the right level of noise...very pleasant experience!

I'm sorry for trying to itemize all the staff that I've met in this Hospital. They are a good bunch of people. I do apologize because I'm thankful for them helping me out.

I been waiting in the ER waiting area for 13hrs 9am to present and it's now 10:06pm. Monitoring pt who have been registered after me leave before me ... I have not heard anything what so ever in regards to my results from my blood work, EKG and or X-rays taken or anything to atleast ease my mind? I believe this is very unethical/inconsiderate and unprofessional! Communication barrier between pt and charge ER Nurse would be greatly appreciated if implemented this would set the tone to ease ER pt who are awaiting to be seen, minds.

In 2010, my mother was sent here per her Dr.s if it was left up to me, she would have NEVER came. I didn't like how they treated my mother... they talked to her like if she was just an animal... my mother stayed in this hospital for 1 month.. She was very ILL. When my mom was told, she was dying she wanted to go to another hospital to go in peace they fought her on it, instead of giving a dying Woman her last wishes they didn't want to look bad by having her transferred to Union Memorial hospital. After I exploded on everyone on the 7th floor they released her.. a week later she died... I hate this hospital with a passion.. the staff member where rude to her.. they kept saying to her she was going to die.. who wants to hear that every. up until you die??? If a person is terminally ill your suppose to comfort them, and comfort their family, not make either of them feel they are a bother... Not only should there be a screening for credentials but an personality test too as well... not everyone is cut out to be a Nurse.. and it was mostly the CNA"s being rude. they were more so worried about how cute their hair and or scrubs looked as to how to be with a patient, a lot of them are only there to make money.. if you cant deal with people then find another job.. leave those jobs for people who love doing what they do with a passion... I absolutely hate this hospital.. and almost hate St. Joe's.. for taking part of their name.

Dontae

Er is ridiculous. Took 10 hours to get a room and now on hour number 2 in the room waiting on the doctor. You might as well be admitted how long this take. About to be here for a full day. Never in my life have i been in a Er so long.

Teresa Micheal

Had an appointment scheduled for 8:20 am this morning. As of 10:30 am, I still had been seen. I was scheduled with Dr. Naslund. Apparently he showed up & then left. No one bothered to say anything until I started asking questions. They had 1Dr. for 50-60 patients. Are you serious? I highly recommend that you just find another Dr. just as I did. Anne Arundel Urology Group is going to see me this Thursday. When I asked to speak to a supervisor, the African American female thought that was funny, I did not. A very unprofessional group of people.

Alex Brown

Service is always great...I used to work here so that does help...but everyone does not know each other...so then I say again...I'm always treated great...customer satification i $ everything...

Debbie Watson

I have had 5 surgeries from this hospital and have stayed 3-7 days after each one. I live almost 3 hours from there and I would not go anywhere else. They have always made me feel very comfortable and safe. The nurses and physicians have always been professional and very pleasant. I am going in 3 days to have another surgery and I won't go anywhere else. The entire stay is definitely worth the drive. I highly recommend this hospital especially the orthopedic surgeon Dr Ludwig and all of his staff as well as the nurses on the surgical, recovery and orthopedic teams.

I've been going to this facility for years. Yet when seeking specialized treatment for the very painful symptoms I was experiencing, they denied me and told me that I do not have enough history. Every time I talk to one of these practioners they give me a new diagnosis, but have only treated one or two of them. So now I have a laundry list of diagnoses on my chart. There are nothing but resident doctors and medical students seeing you, and when you want to speak to an attending doctor, they refuse to see you. I'll never seek medical attention here ever again.

My 15 year old daughter had a horrible undiagnosed condition for a decade. She was admitted on a Friday to UMMC pediatrics. On Saturday, with the help is a CT scan, they diagnosed her. Dr. Lumpkins had her on the OR table on Tuesday. 3 days post op she was completely out of the crippling pain she endured for 10 years. Dr. Lumpkins not only saved my daughters life, but gave her the quality of life that no other doctor could. She was completely professional and answered every stupid question my husband and I had. She talked to us like we were family and made us feel extremely comfortable in a dire situation. The nurses cheered on my daughter for every milestone she made during her 11 day stay. I would highly recommend, both, the surgical team and the pediatric hospital to anyone that has children.

Christopher Moots

Without a doubt the worst ER visit I have ever had. I know that ER visits can be lengthy, but when you are told not to drink water while vomiting and dehydrated when you arrive by a few different people, and no one comes to switch your fluids bag for two hours after you've told three different people, then the fourth finally comes out and says your not getting one and dismisses your concerns with no regard to patient care, I get more than aggravated. I truly hate this place and would only recommend it if you had no other choice. I mean, even if you're shot and you have the option to go somewhere else, do so.

The labor & delivery team was great when I gave birth to my son.The mother & baby unit staff was nice but only thing is you can't get any rest because someone is in your room every 10/15 minutes asking the same questions also the unit is very noisy at this point I'm just ready to get outta here & go HOME & I'm just sick of 1000 & 1 people breathing over my son repeating the same stuff over & over !!!!

Michael Taylor

This place shouldn't exist if my experience is typical. It probably shouldn't exist. I've had 4 kidney stones in my life and this by far was the worst experience--so, much that it doesn't even come close to the other three on any level. I'm glad they do not call it a care center...bc there was no caring. I was shocked to see 3.5 stars. The folder they put my information in was nice...lol. Best part is when I arrived home and relayed my experience to find they're the people that put the patient out in the cold to die. Lovely

Samuel Lawson

Went to the ER for a sprained ankle. Took X rays, wrapped my ankle up with a ace bandage, gave me crutches, told me I had fluid buildup in my ankle, gave me a prescription for Motrin and sent me home. Come to find out my ankle was fractured the whole time.

My brother was in Shock Trauma after another hospital neglected him after surgery. Shock Trauma saved his life. They provided exceptional care and have an great staff.

Barbara Fowler

They take very good care of children. This is the only hospital I will take my little girl.

Janelle Sutton

It was dirty, my child's room had roaches, the staff was not on point with doing there rounds. I was not impressed at all and pray I never have to go back! The hospital looks nice front the outside meaning the entrance but don't be fooled! I also had to pay for parking at a hospital which shows you how greedy they are and what they really care about.

Tracy Love

IF I COULD GIVE THIS PLACE NO STARS, I WOULD!!! THE TEAM OF TRAUMA NURSES,DESK CLERKS,DOCTORS,SECURITY OFFICERS( WITH THE EXCEPTION OF ONE MALE DOCTOR THAT SPOKE WITH OUR FAMILY FACE TO FACE )THAT WERE INVOLVED WITH MY BROTHER'S CARE ARE AND STILL ARE IN COHOOTS WITH THE CROOKED,DISHONEST,LYING BALTIMORE CITY POLICE DEPT.!!!I HOPE NO ONE WILL EVER HAVE THE EXPERIENCE THAT ME AND MY FAMILY HAD!!!THEY ARE PART OF AN ONGOING COVERUP AND SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED BY THE FBI!!!!THEY ARE A DISGRACE TO THE MEDICAL PROFESSION!!!!!!!!!

Walter Johnson

On the one hand, many, even most of the doctors are excellent. Some are world-renowned. Maryland is excellent in certain specialties. Nurses and other health professionals are also very good. But administrative staff usually stink. You find a competent one every so often, but this exceptional person is probably swamped doing the work of 10 of the surly, rude, incompetent folks who are the norm. As well, the bureaucracy of the place is a nightmare. Could use a thorough process re-engineering. For inpatients, the food is horrible. I'm pretty sure someone's ne'er-do-well nephew got the contract and is laughing all the way to the bank as his company prepares inedible meals for people who are supposed to be healing. I'd give a 4 1/2 or 5 to the doctors, a 3.5 for nursing and other health professional staff, a 0.5 for administrative staff, and a negative number for the food.

M. Jean Walter

Wonderful care for my dad. Shout out to Mary Ann on 5th floor, the best nurse. Doctors were great

Caitlin Gilbert

These people so don't know what they are doing!

Owanna Akbur

Very slow service.

Coco V

I called the main number listed herefor the number for the wound care center, was hung up on twice, then given the number for the trauma center. Its very unfortunate that there are staff members at a HOSPITAL, a PLACE OF CARE, who dont care and are incompetent at their jobs.

Jerome Westmore

The out patient Pharmacy on Green Street is the best they helped me out a lot and they're very kind and considerate very nice clean friendly and fast

Keith Howard

I work here.

Ann Marie Bradley-Stalnaker

Overall very caring staff, clean and efficiently run; but had a few moments of annoyance such as long transfer times and having to personally go get meds from the pharmacy in the atrium to bring back up to the Pediatric Ward for my daughter to have during a weeklong stay.

Patrick Zang

I came to the hospital to visit my brother in the ICU. The man at the front desk was rude and sarcastic and told me, incorrectly, that my brother was on restriction. The whole staff were unsympathetic and unhelpful.

Randy Watson

The quality of the rooms are ridiculously poor. Several request had to be made just to have a clean room. I wish I could post the photos here.

Outstanding facility I've been a patient ever since I was a infant diagnosed with asthma & was always well taken care of & went into acute ESRD & was on dialysis for an few years & then got an transplant their & was well taken care of & all my doctors are their & they have the best nephrologist in the country & the best doctor of all Dr Donna Haynes my nephrologist & some great nurses their !

Robin Diakhaté

This is solely based on a phone call I made this Thanksgiving morning (10:21) to inquire about a friend in the ICU. Someone named Nakia picked up the phone, I said, "Good morning and Happy Thanksgiving." Dead silence. I continued, I'm calling." SHE HUNG UP!!!!!! I called back. She picked up again. I skipped the platitudes, gave her the name of my friend. She said, "Oh." Then passed me to someone else who gave me the only information that she could in a cold manner. Wow! This is my first impression of this hospital. I hope my friend is getting better treatment.

Winger One

The worst ER experience I have ever had. I find the 3.8 score hard to reconcile. Either it is fixed or the people of Baltimore are ok with truely substandard health care. I experienced an inappropriate sarcastic intake nurse, unresponsive administration and the longest wait I have ever had to endure. I am a tourist that became ill and was treated terribly.

Although the nursing staff is excellent, I am having a major problem with the kitchen staff who cannot deliver a later meal with in a reasonable time frame;90 minutes later is NOT a reasonable time frame.

Carol Kimmel

My daughter was taken by ambulance to the ER because she had a seizure and fell and hurt her back and head. First they told the paramedics that they wouldn't treat her. Then after the paramedic called a supervisor the doctors decided to treat her. They made her feel so bad about coming in. The x rays came back ok...nothing broken but they tried telling her that her seizures were fake. She even had a small seizure while she was there... All in all..they did their best to make her feel bad. They did nothing to help her. I used to think that the hospital was a good hospital...but not anymore.

Alex Boese

Mostly good doctors and professionals. Pharmacy staff is consistently slow, making people wait on discharge additional hours - perhaps this is used to illegally boost client billing? Can’t leave until prescriptions are filled? Wouldn’t surprise me in the least. Want a hospital with cheap parking? This isn’t it. The cafeteria seems reasonable for prices and selection. The other foos shops seem nice. However, this being said, the food served was awful. Never once did they ask about preference of the patient, and most of the time the patient did not like the food. The nutrition of the food was also abysmal. How to recover from a viral infection without nutritious food?

Bianca

My 9yr old cousin was rushed to this hospital two days ago (all the way from Colombia) in an ambulance after suffering a seizure. The pediatric neurologist was called & did not come down to see him. No blood tests were run on him, no brain scan was done. All they did was check his limb reflexes & checked his eyes. They did not provide any type of medicine & gave him discharge papers with information on where to go. He could've had another seizure on the way home & we would not have had any way of helping him. This hospital needs to be sued for malpractice!! How dare you treat a child this way after suffering a major medical emergency like this for the first time!

Robert Carter

Arrived at 745 or so with chest pain, shortness of breath, feeling of fullness, history of heart disease. Triage was right away. Sky high blood pressure, alarmingly abnormal EKG, blood drawn, urine-tested, chest x-rayed. Put in a gown and a wheelchair, parked back out in the waiting room - for FIVE hours now, waiting for an ER room to open? This is how a cardiac event is treated here? They should not have an ER at this hospital. I was the first one here this morning and have yet to see anyone treated for anything. I hope I don't go into cardiac arrest. I will surely die.

Larry Rampley

You should be utterly ashamed of yourself for putting that poor woman out in that kind of weather! The only reason your staff said they were sorry was because they got caught!! I feel horrible for anyone that receives that kind of treatment and hope the ambulances can get to better care in decent time because that stunt was despicable!!

João Couto

After 3 different ER in Baltimore, my conclusion is system that doesn’t work. They just want our money, we’re a number on ER. But yes, prepare yourself for long 9 hours waiting. I went first to primary care, just to avoid long waits, they transfer me to ER, so I thought could be fast...

Gary Hoy

Treated at Shock Trauma after a fall. Very good care. Friendly and professional. Very pleased.

Virginia Harrell

The doctors & nurses in peds are great. But I'm disabled and needed a Shuttle to transport me from the Er to Redwood garage. I've been waiting for an hour and have called twice and still no shuttle. Did I mention that I called at 9pm & 9:30pm. This is just ridiculous

Sarah BeBe

Went there to visit someone, had a bit of a hard time finding the place but was treated very kindly by everyone. The visitor process was easy and they helped me find the person I came to visit. I was very happy with the care I saw given.

Grateful for the shock trauma team for saving multiple peoples lives that are close to me. Had my father and friend both on the floor dealing with brain injurys and the staff was beyond great. I also worked with their social workers regarding my dads injuries and getting paperwork for myself and him, and all I had to to do was explain over the phone what kind of documentation I needed for work and they got it to me asap (specifically Phil Boeye) Thank you everybody at this hospital!!

Toi M

This review is based on the phone operators. They're ignorant as hell. I just don't understand how people work in customer service with those attitudes. Let me say the ER folks were very nice. Once admitted my nurses were everything. That phone line though, again DISGUSTING

Vera Haslup

I go to this hospital everytime I need one. The doctors and nurses are so kind and professional. I give this hospital a thumbs up.

Leah N

Excellent care and attention was given to me and my 1 year old daughter when she was brought via ambulance to the pediatric ER, PICU and then had an extended stay in the PPCU. I never felt alone or left out of the loop in terms of her progress and care for the several weeks we were (unfortunately) there. The nurses were wonderful (I believe they save the best for the children) and I was very happy with our rooms both in the ICU and in the Progressive Care Unit (clean, very well appointed). My children are patients at GBMC but I will no longer be going there except for general pediatrician appointments, I will always take my kids to UMMC if they need urgent or exceptional care.

jeff jones

After an MRI revealed a tumor behind my right eye, we came to UMMC for surgery and follow up treatment. Following the initial surgery, my wife had many questions. The surgeon answered each question patiently, then gave my wife time to digest the answer and formulate the next question. After hours of surgery, she says she felt like he was just waiting for her to finish and dismiss him. She was VERY grateful. I was as well. I still am. I was somilarly impressed by my week in the Neuro ICU. It's not like we read up on UMMC and picked them. We were walking down a path that caught us both by surprise, and are grateful to have been blessed by UMMC's tremendous service

Fran Mastin

Saved my life and my daughter's life. I have been coordinating patients for ancillary services throughout the health system for years and the patient centric commitment is truly the primary concern.

Pragna Patel

top of the line medicine

Robert Hernandez

This is the worst and most unprofessional place you can go to if you are having an emergency. You are better off treating your own self then spending money or insurance money to go here. they do not care about the patient at all nor do they care to properly handle your situation

Stephanie Edwards

Great with people especially babies

Kathie Jones

My mom was transferred from Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Harford County to the Pulmonary Care Unit and has received wonderful care. I have heard the same from many many people as UMH@B'more is the step up care from UCMC. Heart patients are routinely moved there, as well as patients from the area who go into the Shock Trauma unit. I have never heard anything but good about this hospital.

K Se

I am almost wowed & disturbed at the seemingly sub par treatment many other reviewers have come to receive at the hand of this medical facility. And I am VERY apologetic for that. However, it seems that my experience was definitely different from most.. I suffer from three disorders, including GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disorder) & PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) that was exacerbated tremendously in two days, when a unknown gunman attempted to take my life, followed by the brutal murder of my newly 19 yo cousin on his doorstep.. Needless to say, I had a breakdown in a CVS smh lol.. I ended up in the ER. The triage nurse was very nice & understanding, the wait (for treatment & to be seen) IS a bit strenuous ESPECIALLY if you're in pain or discomfort, but I was seen as promptly as I feel was possible for the sheer volume of people they had pouring in. They ALWAYS remained very professional, genuinely concerned & actively trying to remedy the issue. With that being said, I DO think they are understaffed, a bit ratchet (very unprofessional), overworked & simply AREN'T given all the resources and tools that is needed for them to fully do their job/due diligence. I.e., heard one head attending nurse relay down the idea to the other attendees, that there was NO BEDS available to accommodate the people who were being seen, therefore she had to make some decisions that in turn seemed to be unfavourable among her attendees.. But it was what she had to do to keep beds freed up for the incoming crop of patients. So THAT was an issue. And I'm sure that there are MANY more issues like unto these that cause these well-intentioned, able & (again) overworked doctors, nurses, attendees & medical healthcare professionals to perform below the expectations of some patients, and for that, I am sorry. Because WE ALL deserve quality healthcare & the quality of life that having these things in place shall bring. But they are trying! My deepest apologies again for those who were neglected & possibly further injured, but perhaps the issue is at the top of the pyramid & not at the bottom. Let's not (please) attack the messengers, but question he OR she who've sent them. Let's question the defunct system that seems to be perpetuating & allowing this. *bows respectfully & steps off soapbox*

Worst hospital I have ever been to in my life. If You actually want to die this the place to come to. I wish I could give a 0 star rating. Every aspect of this hospital from the security to the surgeons is terrible nobody does their jobs. They do not update you on anything your left in the dark for days the social worker Sarah is non existent she shouldn’t work at any hospital in the country. Our loved one woke up from heart surgery and was awake for several hrs before another emergency surgery had to be performed. All the family should have been contacted when she woke up that’s what the staff was instructed to do. They never contacted us. This hospital took away our chance to say goodbye and see her awake one last time. This is completely unacceptable! Nobody was held responsible for this HUGE error. I wouldn’t come here to even get a flu shot.

Very unprofessional I came in the hospital around 9pm and I still haven’t been checked out and it’s 3:07am they need to do better !!!

Great Hospital fully professional staff Doctors are highly professional lab system are accurate specifically nurses in ICU patients friendly. I have stayed in ICU for 5 days no complaint at all. Keep moving public friendly umbc wish you good luck.

Brenda McGrain

Never again. Waited 8 hours for a planned procedure. Staff not helpful and are rude. Hospital is in need of cleaning. Elevators are slow or broken.

Lavelle

IF YOU ARE HAVING A TRUE EMERGENCY, DO NOT COME HERE!! I REPEAT, DO NOT COME HERE. I just spent 8hrs in the ER in pain and had to leave to go somewhere else because I couldn’t take it anymore. A whole 8 hr shift basically, where I witnessed unprofessionalism from the staff, full unnecessary arguments between staff and patients and dirt literally everywhere. The cleaning crew doesn’t even truly clean, they use sanitation wipes for everything. This hospital should not exist!!

K R

I don't believe this "hospital" is really sorry about a patient being dumped semi nude at a bus stop into 30 degree weather, they are just sorry they got caught! They should lose their federal funding that they use to live fancy off of while ripping people off.

Terri Buchinski

Unprofessional staff working in patient information.

Ashonte Aikens

Staff was nice and pleasant and made it very easy for me.

There ER sucks, the nurses dont care about whats wrong with you at all, they are cold and apathetic and dont give a damn about patient care. The waiting time sucks, my mother and came here because chest pains and shortness of breath and they took 45 minutes to get her admitted and over 6 hours to get a room, and we came here in the ambulance.

Brandon Wishnow

Sadly I’m a student at the University of Maryland Dental School and even as “one of their own” I couldn’t get proper care at the ER. It’s a travesty. I had immense pain from kidney stones, and instead of seeing me immediately, the “triage,” if you can even call it that, continued to bring back patients in a seemingly random order. Triage is supposed to sort out what patients need care first, not to wait until patients pass out in the waiting area like I was about to after an hour and thirty minutes. When I was finally seen, the nurse practicioner gave me morphine, after I told her that this hasn’t helped me in the past with kidney stone pain. I then had the displeasure of remaining in the same amount of pain as how I had arrived for hours on end. I was then left in the sonogram imaging area, literally alone by myself, and the tech told me no one was available to push me back. Meanwhile I’ve had no adequate pain management for over 2 and a half hours. I screamed in the hallway for 20 minutes before someone finally brought me back. Before I was discharged, I had to ask the nurse several times to work on the discharge papers so I could finally leave. Thankfully my parents showed up to finally bring me home. I’m sure there are talented doctors in the facility, and some of them I even know personally, but the emergency room experience I had was hellish and a nightmare, and I’m embarrassed to be affiliated with the center in any way.

(Translated by Google) The day of my surgery was on Jun 28th and I received an excellent service from the graduate nurses and practicians especially one called Sean, or something like that. Thanks to the kindness of the staff in general, I felt confident that I was in good hands when entering the Operating Room. Today I recover perfectly from my surgery. My husband was transferred here from our local hospital after suffering a stroke exactly 7 years ago today. He was admitted to the Neuro ICU and was treated likehe was a super star. I was also treated wonderfully. I slept in the waiting room and I remember one night a nurse came out to talk to me. She later returned with a copy of a small bible. I am not super religious but this was the best gift anyone had ever given to me. She was wonderful.

Six months ago I was transported to U of MD Medical Center. I had been in an ICU at another hospital and was told there was nothing more they could do. I had cirrohis from Hep C and had been treated since 1991 but the damage had progressively worsened. I was transported to Baltimore at night and I was terrified. I had prayed continuously for the entire time I was hospitalized and asked the Lord to put me in the best place and with His selection of Doctors or instruments of healing to tend to me. HE DID!! I felt the difference at the door of my room. I finally felt someone was totally aware of the problem and would and could help me. I was rigorously tested from head to foot, and on the fourth day of being there, I received a liver transplant. I received a second chance at life and GOD made all the selections. I have to believe that GOD knows that they are Special people. I cannot adequately express my gratitude for the person who elected to be an organ donor and to the Family of the Donor. Also, the Doctors and Nurses are phenomenal. I hope they know it. Dr. Barth and Team, Drs. Potosky, Hutson and many others will forever remain special to me and my family. Thank you and God Bless you.

Every time I ask a question the response is..."I DON'T KNOW! THEY ALMOST KILLED MY HUSBAND LAST NIGHT BY OVERDOSE OF PAIN MED. As he was almost comatose they gave him one of those street drugs to bring him back. Then dr said I was rude for being upset.

bossaleana green

I am writing the review on the behave of my wife. She passed away in UMMC recently. Most of the doctors and nurses are very professional and doing their jobs. I will say most of nurses are very knowledgeable and helpful. But the hospital doesn't welcome patients family members to stay over night. They make patient family feel uncomfortable to stay over night. You can not lie down to take a rest at all. Patients family members have to run between hospital and hotel. It is bad to those patients who are in critical conditions. The second issue I want to complaint is the hospital mishandling insurance claim. My insurance processed their claim on 4/10/2019 and rejected to pay with the reason of no itemized invoices. I received a claim filed through administration of will from the debt collector hired by University for the amount during my wife hospital stay on 6/6/2019. University of Maryland spent two months to chase my wife estate. My insurance did not receive any documents they need to process the insurance claim. I am going to file a complaint through Maryland State Attorney to investigate. University of Maryland Medical Center is in the network of my insurance and not suppose to send a bill to me. They suppose to send the documents to insurance to process but it did not happen as the time I wrote this complaint. I called the customer service for the past two days. None of them are helpful and giving me an answer. Finally my insurance representative whose name is Janet helped me to talk to them to make sure they did not violate the agreement with insurance . They should not bill to patients until settle down of insurance claim. All I need to know is someone is sending the documents for insurance to process the claims. Instead they kept sending me back and forth for no answer. I called administration of will and they told me a claim is a bill. Clearly, University of Maryland Medical Center violate the agreement with my insurance. Confirmed with the representatives of my insurance. Prepare the complaint to Maryland State Attorney.

My husband was admitted to Shock Trama Sept 2018, with MRSA to a hip replacement. Everyone we encountered was polite, showed us where to go when we were lost. All Nurses & other staff were exceptional in all aspects of care & concerns. All the Doctors involved & their associates including the ones learning were exceptional as well. UMMC has our vote #1.

Excellent care in the MICU

I visited this facility this past week. During my time in the waiting room a man came in fighting and yelling and the police got involved but let the man go that clearly was on something. Also, there was homeless people in the room and they were sleeping on the benches and another lady was picking her face and had blood everywhere then she decided to blow her nose into her hand! Disgusting!! We finally got called back and the nurses were excellent but they referred us to a clinic for next day follow-up regarding surgery, we went to the appointment and had to schedule next day surgery for the extreme broken bones my husbands subtained. We were ready to leave the appointment and happy that we had it scheduled just to be told they refuse to do surgery because my insurance they didn't take even tho my doctor said to go there. The surgeon said "I ain't doing a surgery for free" we never said we aren't gonna pay.. I'm sure a couple thousand dollar surgery wouldn't put a dent into his 6 figure salary.. very unhappy!! Speaking with my lawyer tomorrow!! You can't turn away a trauma patient because of money! My insurance company even said fight it! Oh yeah!! Can't forget about the janitor asking a co worker if they had sex on there birthday!! Sexual harassment at its best!

I pray that this review is viewed by someone in authority who will take this to heart and recognize all those concerned: I was transferred there from another facility on the night of 06/19/2019, due to my injuries (fractured hip and the likes). From the moment I entered the facility, until the moment I left, I was treated like a QUEEN - by ABSOLUTELY EVERYONE; nursing staff, physical therapy staff, food service staff (my ‘girl’ would fix me up with extra ginger ale), housekeeping staff, you name it. I wanted for nothing while I was there. Let’s face it, when you’re hospitalized, your modesty goes out the window. I was basically helpless - I had to be bathed, I had to be cleaned after ‘toilet time’, well, you get the idea! The nursing staff (their professions are TOTALLY underrated by the way) didn’t batt an eye. They tried to put me at ease and alleviate my embarrassment as best they could. If I unfortunately am seriously injured again, Shock Trauma is my #1 choice! A big shoutout to everyone on the 6th floor (and a special thanks to Nurse Tech Rita for taking a little extra time out of your very busy schedule to check in on me much more often than I’m sure you needed to; I am so appreciative and so grateful).

Joanna Webb

Excellent care when I recently underwent double cardiac bypass surgery there.

Nour Alrashid

Emergency is horrible and super bad treatment and workers are so rude... I won’t go there any more

Great people (there are some bad apples). I was in shock trauma for a week and they patched me up pretty good and most people were compassionate and professional.

Intelligence and compassion. Very pleased with our care

My wife delivered here. It was between here and southern Maryland but we chose this hospital because it was closer to the house. The staff and nurses were all very attentive to my wife and our baby. Everyone is very nice and also very helpful. If we have a second child, we will definitely be coming back here.

Victor Parks

I was treated by a Dr. Jose Jesus Diaz who was performing a surgery on me that consisted of hernia repair, abdominal wall reconstruction and reconnection of my bowel which ruptured 2 years before. According to the doctor and the ACES team everything went as planned with surgery. I was in recovery for 5 days with no bowel movements or even an appetite which I told the team and doctor each time I saw them in those 5 days. They were going to send me home that day but I said I wasn't ready to go according to their own benchmarks for release after a bowel surgery & stayed one more day. Still nothing so I could only assume that since they ran no further testing & didn't advise against me leaving but actually encouraged it that I was fine. The very next day I had uncontrollable bowel and bladder problems. It turns out that somehow they managed to connect my bowel and bladder together. This made for the most uncomfortable 6 months of my life. I had to spend this time in a recliner and diapers because I couldn't stop stool and/or urine from coming out of both of my bottom exits. I also had to keep in a straight catheter for that time and had to have that replaced every 2 weeks because of the catheter getting clogged with stool or proteins. The UTI's were excruciatingly difficult to cope with. Nobody offered an apology or admitted fault. I had surgery again in March of 2019 @ UMMC to correct what they botched. Once again I began vomiting on the night before they released me and again no further testing was done to give explanation for vomiting. They released me the next day. I was back in the ER @ BWMC within 8 hours of release for uncontrollable vomiting. They left a hematoma(blood clot) in my abdomen so I had to have another surgery exactly 1 week after the last to remove a blood clot. Very negligent, unprofessional & egotistical. These people made my life miserable and got paid for it. This is a teaching hospital so, is this the mannerisms you want in future doctors. Don't even get me started on the former Mayor and the rest of the board @ this hospital. Profits over patients! Many of the nurses were nice and attentive. Know any good malpractice or negligence lawyers. I've spoken to a few & they're the same. They think that I won't get them rich so my case isn't worth it. I completely disagree.

Donnell Morgan

Don't like

We arrived for an 8am for a scheduled surgery time of 9:45am. We were placed in a room and they performed their usual pre op preparation. It's now 2 hours after our scheduled surgery time and no one has been back into our room since. No up dates and no one came in to check on us. Not acceptable. Poor quality healthcare. I feel we have a long day ahead of us. Also I fimd it ironic... there is a sign on the wall that says Hourly Caring Rounds. "sometime during every hour our health care team will check on you and see what we can do to meet yoir needs". What a Joke!

Loy Lee

Nice facility pleasant staff... Weird that they have a piano that plays by itself in the lobby... Makes me think ghost which isnt the appropriate mind set to have in a hospital.
