Great doctor, Had surgery January of 2017 haven’t felt this good in years

Dr. Powers is an absolutely amazing surgeon and person. I have found him and his staff to be Top Shelf. After suffering from chronic spine issues for most of my adult life, Dr. Powers has put me on a path of recovery I never thought possible. He is kind, knowledgeable, understanding, and genuinely wants to help his patients. 5 Stars!

I had nothing but a great experience with Dr. Powers from pre-op (ACDF Surgery) to many months afterwards. What impressed me from the first appointment is that unlike other surgeons, he not only took almost one hour of his busy time to consult and educate me on my issues and options, but he never pressured me to have surgery. I had just come from another surgeon who 10 minutes in was asking me what my schedule was for next month to have the surgery and when I told Dr. Powers that story he said "If you ever walk into a surgeons office and the first thing they tell you is to have surgery, walk out of that door". He was super nice, super caring and a rock star with the knife. It's been almost 2 years and I feel like I have a brand new neck, which means a new life, considering the unbearable pain I was in for more than a year before deciding to see Dr. Powers.

Dr. Powers has been my surgeon for years. I went to see him two weeks ago, an appointment I’d made a month in advance. When I arrived I found out that he was running two hours behind schedule. Ok, no problem, I can understand that so I waited. When I eventually saw him, it was as though we’d never met before, though he’s not only performed surgery on me, but I’ve seen him at least ten times. I could tell he hadn’t even looked at the images I’d brought because he was so busy, but to make things worse, he claimed he needed to see my images from a year ago to compare to. He was given those images last year. To sidetrack me, he then sent me for xrays, as though he needed them. Got the xrays done a week later (more time off work) went to drop them at the Chevy Chase office only to find nobody there. I called the main phone number and was told ‘the front desk person is at lunch and should be back soon’. Two hours later, nobody showed up, so I now have to Fedex my disks to him. Dr. Powers is a top notch surgeon, but his practice is so unorganized, and you have to wait at least a month if you’re an existing patient, probably months if you’re a new patient. Just be prepared to get the runaround until you finally complain. At that point, if you’re lucky you’ll get to see him and maybe, just maybe he’ll remember you and actually have all the information he needs. If not, be prepared to take time off work for multiple appointments.
