Did not call me back with my diagnosis. When she visited me in the waiting room after having me wait half an hour (no patients ahead of me) she asked what I wanted to know even though she already told me this appointment was to determine my diagnosis. Also she does not listen to what you have to say. To be a doctor takes a lot of hard work but I believe anybody can complete school with enough motivation..she worked hard but my advice is please put patients before the money!

I recently went in for my annual full body scan. The doctor seemed to be more interested in issues that were unrelated to the reason I scheduled the appointment in the first place. She informed me that I have Rosacea. I trusted her professional diagnosis. She essentially prescribed me medications without explaining what they were or the purpose each served. The office electronically sent the scripts to my pharmacy, which I approved. The doctor had written out brief instructions on a post-it and passed it along to me with samples. Upon picking up my prescriptions I realized she had called in Doxycycline. Due to my history of using birth control, I immediately became alarmed. Taking this medication may decrease the effectiveness of birth control. If the office was aware of my current medications, this should not have been an option for me. Overall, poor experience this time around.

The wait time was about 30/40 minutes. Dr Patterson rushed me through the whole thing. She didn’t listen and was reluctant to answer my question or explain anything, she just said my prescription will be brought to me and that was it. I told the assistant I still wanted to see Dr Patterson because she didn’t answer some of questions or properly explain the medication she prescribed and I was told she left for lunch. Eventually I had to see Dr Callender who answered my questions and helped to correct the prescription the first doctor had written.

Stay away. This place is run for one purpose only: maximizing profit without genuine care for patience. I didn't care at first since it was close to home and I only needed a prescription. But having visited them multiple times now, it's very clear that it's simply one greedy business. They don't even try to hide it. The whole point of visiting to refill a prescription is that they are supposed to monitor you to make sure that everything is okay with you and there is no harm done by the drug you are prescribed. Not a single time this happened. I was given my prescriptions (I was told that they'd call) after a 30 second interaction without 'any' check up or monitoring. That's just being severely unethical in a field that ethics must remain intact. Even one time I tried initiate a conversation about my prescription by asking if there has been any new study on it, I was simply told, to my shock, "Google it!". I actually did end up googling it and found a very recent journal article with some new findings that they should have known about. Stay away!

I checked in. Five people went in front of me, including a woman who loudly proclaimed, "thanks for squeezing me in." After waiting 55 minutes, I left after letting receptionist know. I was a former patient 14 years ago and loved Dr. Calendar's grace and manner. I was so looking forward to seeing her but that never happened. It appears the ballooning practice has changed somewhat is its protocol and philosophy.

The one star is the poor service I received from Dr. Patterson. Dr Callender is friendly, listens and take your concern serious but I had a new concern about my scalp and Dr Patterson ignored it and I had to say it over and over again. She didn’t even bother to look at it the way my previous dermatologist would wear gloves and examine it. She wasn’t friendly at all and was just too in a hurry. I had to ask two of the front desk to look at my face after she was done with the laser because it didn’t seem it was properly done. She asked me to come back in a week for touch up but two of the front office ladies said it should be minimum of 14 days.

Unlike other DR offices, I always received follow-up calls to check how I am reacting to any new prescription. I don't know how this place has such a high rating but please beware. To start off with the positive: The facility itself is very beautiful and professional and her nurse was very helpful and super nice and welcoming. With that being said, the total waiting time to see Dr. Callader was about 30-45 minutes and my "consultation" with her only lasted about 5 minutes tops. She does NOT assess your skincare regimen, skin type or sensitivities. All she ended up doing in those 5 minutes was glance over my skin, told me the obvious of my dark marks and prescribes me a topical treatment that not only made my skin worse by severe irritation, extremely sensitivity, an influx of acne, which in turn led to more scarring. I try giving this god forsaken medicine a chance for about 3 months and after I give her a call. She told me I would have to make an appointment for a new consultation (and pay for in full). Biggest hustling "medical" dermatologist in the area.

The office has a policy of filling prescriptions up 48 hours after your visit although they expect advanced payment of your insurance deductible, before being seen and without any supporting documentation prior to swiping your card. Medical practices need to provide better customer service. I feel much better visiting fast food restaurants, as the level of service is appropriate for the price you pay

Bully tactics for a no show/cancellation policy forced to sign BEFORE being seen for an appointment I had made 3-4 mos. prior. I do not agree with being held to a higher standard than the practice holds for itself! I won't be returning even though I've never missed an appointment! Very poor customer service!!!! Never answered calls, placed on hold, transferred to be disconnected! I always made my appointments in person because of this! Good riddance!

This is an upscale office where everyone is friendly. Dr. Callender has helped my hair to thicken up and grow. She has also given me ointment for a boil that cleared up in a matter of days and gave me a full body scan to see if there were any cancerous moles. Customer service poor. Takes forever to get someone on phone. Long waiting period. Left a detailed message in am with no call back. Prescription had a huge copay and when I wanted something else I was told there was no substitute. I will be going to another dermatologist. Listen to your patients an we aren't all rich.

I went here for years as a teen and young adult for pretty bad eczema. Dr. Callender would just give me steroid creams for long-term use and tell me to use dove soap products (which is not good for eczema). My visits here were always characterized by long wait times, rude office staff, and a doctor that tried to rush me through the visit. I try to support black physicians but I can't when I feel they don't respect their patients. I think Dr. Callender is probably good if you need cosmetic work, but she is not good for those with actual skin conditions. I ended up doing my own research to find a good doctor that listened and gave me helpful remedies to deal with eczema.

I have been a patient at Callender Dermatology for probably twenty years or so and it is the best. Growing up in Florida before sunscreen was invented left me with injured skin on my face, arms, legs and chest. All that wonderful beach sun was not good for thin skin. My sons and I are all patients and have gotten very good care over the years. Everyone on the staff is pleasant and wait time is very little. I continue to be a patient even after moving to Arnold in Anne Arundel County from the Bowie area.

I've been going to this office for about 10 years. They've improved so much over the years. What was once a 2 hour waiting period is now less than 20 min, which I'm fine with. The front staff is courteous and welcoming when you first enter. The office itself is beautiful. And Dr. Young is the best. My skin is temperamental and Dr. Young has been giving great advice when my skin acts up. She takes the time to listen and offers guidance on what i need to be doing differently. If there was an ever an issue with my prescription, I let her know via voicemail and she was always able to help locate a pharmacy that had my prescription at a cheaper price, plus she always gave me discount cards. I am totally satisfied with the service I receive. However I do have to admit, that knowing beforehand that you have a balance would be nice. It's no fun paying more than you had intended. But besides that, I would highly recommend this office, and specifically, Dr. Young.

Three Visits Pros: Nice and friendly staff and beautiful facilty. Cons: Horrible skills in being organized, punctual, and accountable. They made us wait for an hour (even though we politely questioned them twice), they placed blame on us, the client, instead of taking responsibility for their own mistakes and just apologizing. They told us they'd call us after each visit for different reasons and we never received a call back. There was an excuse for that as well. We will find a new dermatologist.

I had an appt last Thursday to which I had to pay an extremely high co pay! What makes matters even worse is that I was literally in my appointment for only 2 minutes to hear the physician assistant tell me all things I already knew. And to top that off the medicine was prescribed was extremely pricey so the assistant told me to call if this was an issue. I have been calling since last Thursday , the day of my appointment and left several voicemails . Each time someone answers the phone they tell me the same thing which is that the nurses are busy and to allow 24-48 hours for them to return my call! It will be a week tomorrow that I have still not heard from anyone ! I still do not have my prescription medicine that I need !!!! No one has called me back !!!!! Nothing !!!!! I would not recommend this office to anyone !!!

My experience was awful. I have been in the office before and although I did not necessarily liked the waiting time, my first visits were okay. My last visit was horrible. I had a procedure done on my face and the physician said "you are all set". She gave me cream to put on. I come home and looked in the mirror and part of my forehead did not get done. I called the center and they informed me that my insurance does not cover 100% of the procedure and i have to go back again and make another payment and have another procedure. I told them that I was not informed that my insurance does not cover 100% (this is after I pay $100+ deductible). They said that I should talk to the insurance about coverage not them. I informed them that it is not my job to check what my insurance covers and that it was the office job to inform me what percentage of the procedure the insurance covers. I even informed them that the physician did not say anything during the visit about the percent of the procedure that the insurance covers. If she says "you are all set" it means 100% of the procedure is done. They would not accept this reasoning and they said if I want to complete the procedure I have to go back and make another payment (deductible). This is not reasonable and I would not have made the first payment if I knew that they don't do the 100% procedure. Update: I have received an email to rate my last visit. I posted this same honest review there, and a couple of days later I received a certified letter from the doctor discharging me as her patient and that I can no longer be seen there. That's okay with me, I was not planning on going back there, but I was stunned, rather than apologize, they chose to discharge me. I was never treated like this before by any doctor.

One Front Desk staff was rude (the skinny lady). She did not know how to talk to people. She asked me for a referral and when I asked my doctor to fax it to them, she said they don't need it anymore. Doctor Young seemed very understanding of my concerns and she took the time to listen to my concerns. She was pleasant and professional. She was very honest on the concerns that I have. I aired my concerns to the Dr. and said she would prescribe two different creams for me. When I called the pharmacy, the pharmacy said "your doctor only prescribed one." I called but the wait time is very long, so I decided to hang up. Did not bother to ask what happened.

HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll never return. Made an appointment for my daughters and was giving a month out appointment. On arrival I was informed to complete new patient paperwork because one of my daughters hadn't been seen by the office and the other daughter hadn't been seen by the office in over 3months. After completing the paperwork and being ask if my daughters wanted to be seen together I was called to the front desk to say I have NO SHOW fee in the amount of $50. Much to my surprise I wasn't aware of any NO SHOW FEE and it was communicated to me when I made the appointment. I explained to the front desk rep I should have a no show fee when I came to the office and cancelled my appointment because I didn't agree with the insurance claim. The front desk rep states they would charge me a late cancellation, however it must be paid before my daughter is seen. I informed the rep that my daughter will not be seen and they will not be charging me anything. I allowed my second daughter to been seen with the fact that we wouldn't return. Now I'm looking at my account and my credit card was charged twice for a co-pay and the front desk again tells me they didn't charge my card and I need to claim down. I explain I'm looking at my account and there are 2 charges on my account. The worst I WILL NOT RETURN!!!

I made an initial visit to the Callender the Dermatology & Laser Center. I selected this Dermatologist due to the fact that they are a participant provider in my BlueChoice Network health plan. Despite this, Callender Dermatology told me that I had an out-of pocket charge of $185.00 for services for this visit. Despite questioning that charge, I reluctantly paid it. However, soon after, I filed a reimbursement claim with BlueChoice after they confirmed me that Callender Dermatology was indeed a part of my network, and that I should not have had to pay nothing more than the $15 co-pay. for that visit. I made several calls to Callender Dermatology and spoke with "Ms. Tasha" in the billing department. During one our conversations, Ms. Tasha stated it would take approximately (2) weeks for the reimbursement check to be processed at which I be notified via phone when the check would be ready for pick up. I actually allotted 3 1/2 weeks to past for good measure at which Ms. Tasha informed me that the check was still not available for pick up, "and that she had to wait for him to come back" for what I assume was authorization. Ms. Tasha stated she would contact me in 2 weeks to come and pick up check. Since that conversation, over 3 weeks have gone by and still no contact from Ms. Tasha regarding the reimbursement check. I have been more than fair and beyond patient with regards to resolving this ongoing issue with the Callender Dermatology Center's Billing Department. This company has chosen to ignore and has yet to reimburse me for wrongfully billing me during a service visit.This matter has been both frustrating and exhausting. This company obviously had no real intentions on refunding my money. This has played out long enough. Tomorrow will make a few year that I have been battling to get my $185.00 minus the $15 payment made by my insurance company. Update: I visited the Callender Dermatology & Cosmetic Center on 12/09/15 a day shy of my initial visit--12/10/2014 to them, I was forced to go to their office after still have'nt received my refund check, countless phone calls over the past 2 months. I am due $170.00.While there I spoke with Tasha in their billing department who showed me a print out of service which falsely shows Carefirst paid $72.01. A Carefirst representative on October 14, 2015 told me that Carefirst paid $15.00 and that would leave me with a $170.00 refund. This company will do anything to get out of refunding what they wrongfully billed me. And on top of that she claimed the refund check still isn't ready and that I would have to come back tomorrow to pick it up. SMH. STAY FAR< FAR AWAY FROM CALLENDER DERMATOLOGY & COSMETIC CENTER. THEIR BILLING PRACTICES ARE FRAUDULENT & DECEPTIVE

Dr. Callender and her staff are very nice & friendly. I've seen a few dermatologists before being recommended here and none of them gave me the answers I needed (except my current dermatologist that recommended me to her), but Dr. Callender gave me hope and much better treatment advice. Her consultation fee is excessively high, but I at least feel good knowing I have an option now.

I've been a patient for several years. Dr. Young is personable and warm and has been a great help for my hair and scalp and skin. The offices are very busy and the doctors have an extremely large clientele list. This is the reason you often get the run around from the front desk with appointments and being on hold and often never getting a call through. I do not use the cosmetic center, it has not been helpful with my process and is quite expensive. If you can make it past some of the personalities and snootiness and long waits with front desk and business office, you will get good care!

I do not recommend this doctor, I was seen by Dr. Patterson for discoloration on my stomach due to a surgery. I was recently proscribed hydroquinine at what seemed to be an extremely high dosage. It caused so much damage to my skin that I don't even know if it's repairable only after using a few days. I contacted the office, it's extremely difficult to get through. Luckily I eventually did...I've never been more stressed and dissatisfied with a doctor. It doesn't seem the proper care and treatment is give for the money you payment and not being able to get through their phone system is just unprofessional.

Review for Callender Dermatology and Cosmetic Center I am a long-time patient of Dr. Callender who hasn't needed her services in almost 3 years. I visited the office for a maintenance checkup with Dr. Young and was pleased to not see a waiting room full of patients when I arrived. The front desk staff was extremely pleasant and organized. I went through the check-in process in a matter of minutes. Nurse Marian (think that was her name) was a delight! Dr. Young was thorough as always! She is such as asset to the practice. I even had the distinct pleasure to see Dr. Callender for a few minutes. That was a wonderful surprise! I was able to leave with a recommendation of a natural supplement to aid my skin this summer along with a prescription. My visit confirmed again why I remain a patient of this practice. I've been a patient of Callender Dermatology for several years off and on. Members of my family have also been patients there. The service and attention given me and my family has always met the highest standards. There have been no dissatisfaction in the past. However a recent visit I made to the office was not completely satisfactory. My complaint was diagnosed and 2 prescriptions given. At a follow up visit one month later, there was no progress in my condition. I was instructed to continue using the meds and only return if I thought it necessary. This felt to me like a blow off and there was nothing else to be done. I still suffer with the same problem after spending money on some expensive medication. I made a follow up appointment in between 6-8 (that was her order). When I called to make one, I was told she was booked until the end of September. That exceeds 4 weeks after the 8th week.

Very disappointed! I had an appointment today with Dr. Young, I was suffering with severe eczema and really needed to see the doctor. When I arrived to the office I was told I had a $45 copay which I expected with my Aetna insurance. They lady at the front proceeded to tell me I had a missed appointment fee from 2016 in the amount of $25. In 2016 I arrived to my appointment with Dr. Young 15 minutes late, I called while driving there to inform the staff that it was an accident and that I was coming from Baltimore and shouldn’t be no more than 15 min late. When I arrived to the office to be seen the staff along with management did not care and they cancelled my appointment! They told me I had to reschedule because I was 15 min late. Here it is 2018, 2 years later and no one informed me that I was charged $25 for being late! When I made my appointment it wasn’t mentioned and no one sent me a bill in the 2 year period! I have been a patient with Dr. Callender’s practice for over 20 years and will not be returning! The practice policy is ridiculous and they have no compassion for their patients!

This office is very upscale. The receptionists are very nice, and engaging. The young lady who walked me back to the room was the absolute best. She was sooo funny! I wish I remembered her name. She's half Black half Hispanic...I love her! (give her a raise) I actually felt like she cared more about me than the dermatologist. The actual dermatologist didn't really look at my face or ask me any questions. She just prescribed me a bunch of steroids and ointments (that didn't work). I went back for a follow-up and was seen by a nurse who just prescribed more creams (which also didn't work). I had to go to another dermatologist to determine that I actually have rosacea and the medications this office was prescribing was irritating it, making it significantly worse. I think this office is better for the cosmetic part of dermatology since apparently that is how they bring in the most money. I always attempt to support Black-owned businesses because I want us to win! Unfortunately, I won't be returning to this office.

The wait time to see the physician is unacceptable. I waited almost an HOUR before being taken into the room which is ridiculous. If I arrived an hour late I guarantee you I would be charged a missed appt fee. My time is just as important as they think theirs is and they should at least contact the customer before their arrival time to give them the option to reschedule or come later OR acknowledge that they are behind when I got checked in NOTE: After I had waited then confronted the front desk the receptionist response was OH I didn’t notice she was behind but we ask that you expect to wait at least an hour- That’s some BS right there.

I received friendly, stellar service from Dr. Callender and her nurses! I had my first visit office earlier this month. I had an irritating (and painful) skin issue, so I was fortunate to get in to see her quickly. My prescription was ready the same day with no issues. And though I had trouble getting someone to answer when I called the office with follow up questions, I left messages and my calls were returned within minutes. I will continue to visit Dr. Callendar's office.

When I started going to Dr. Callender's office 3 months ago, I was frustrated and somewhat depressed after struggling with bad acne and oily skin for over 20 years. Dr. Callender was very nice, patient and thoroughly explained the treatment plan. I've had significant improvement to my acne in just 3 months!!
