What makes a great veterinary practice? In my opinion it's the people, the compassion and curiosity. My husband and I have been coming to The Cat Doctor for 18+ years. All of the veterinarians and staff are wonderful. Even in my panicky moments when I've called with concerns (and feeling like I was being crazy) I was treated with respect and kindness. This past summer I had the opportunity to work there while some front desk help was needed.... being a part of the team really gave me a whole new perspective on how this practice is run - because of this I really hope this review is helpful to others. The veterinarians and staff are so knowledgeable and curious about cats health - they want to figure out whats going on with your sick kitty, they want to listen to your concerns and help. It is not an easy job, and can be totally heartbreaking at times - I can honestly say I have never met a more harder working group of people. Everyone is so caring and will put your cats health and wellness first. And with The Cat Doctor being a cat-only practice, the focus is with cats.... with no loud dogs in the waiting area. ;) Pricing is completely fair and the waiting area is stocked with just about everything you might need for your kitty. I highly recommend The Cat Doctor and will continue to be a client for a long time!

Our cats have been patients at the Cat Doctor since 1997. We have always been more than satisfied with their care. Dr. Givens is our favorite vet, but all three are professional and competent. The Cat Doctor is not inexpensive, but the prices are fair and the vet will go over the estimate with you and explain what is involved. We very much like the fact that they only treat cats.

I love the Cat Doctor! All the staff are so kind and professional and made both my cat and I feel very comfortable. They were accommodating to all of our needs and I really appreciated the follow up call a few days after the appointment. When they accidentally called in the wrong prescription, they paid for the first month for me. I highly recommend them!

Trevor and Rue have been coming to The Cat Doctor since I adopted them when they were 8 weeks old in May of 2018. They just had their one year annual checkup and vaccinations and everything went very smoothly, with minimal stress for me and the kitties. Dr, Wright worked extremely efficiently and was able to give both cats their shots without them even noticing. He answered all of my questions and was very gentle and soothing to the cats throughout our visit. I love this vets office!

I was very disappointed with my visit. I adopted a 10-month old kitten and brought him in for a check up and a final round of shots. They asked me zero questions about him and provided me with no information. Luckily I'm the type of person who researches a lot and as a child we had a cat but had I been a new cat owner or didn't do my research they would have provided me with absolutely no information. All vets I've been to in the past ask questions about their diet, habits, and general questions to get to know them and keep on file to track any changes. There was absolutely nothing like that at my visit. I was also in the process of transitioning my kitten to a raw diet and asked the vet about it and if I was feeding him an appropriate amount and got a brush off answer akin to "yeah, people do raw diets." This vet was also the only person (foster, adoption center, pet store employees, laymen, etc.) who said my kitten would most likely be a short haired cat. This very obviously wasn't going to be the case and I now know he's a Ragdoll mix and is closer to long-hair (most thought he'd only be medium-haired). I was just so very disappointed with the lack of interest, attention, and time that was given during our visit. She seemed to want to get in and get out as quickly as she could, even though I made it clear when making the appointment that this was a new patient appointment to establish a regular vet. I definitely won't return here and will be looking for a different regular vet for my cat.

The Cat Doctor is one of the best veterinary practices I've ever been to. My kitten Marko loves Dr.Wright and even looks forward to coming to the vet because of the conscious attention he recieves. We recently adopted another kitten that unfortunately was diagnosed with FIP. Dr.Wright was so kind during the euthanization process and talked us through the whole thing. My boyfriend and I were a bit of a wreck at the time but he and the staff made the experience the best it could be and we couldn't be more thankful for that. I have been using the Cat Doctor since I moved to Maine in 1983. Dr.Givins is wonderful. I had moved away and when I came back I got my cat Tigger, who almost died and the treatment that he received at the Cat Doctor was so amazing. I could come visit with him while he was having to stay as he was so sick. The attention he received form the staff was so caring. So it was only fitting that when Tigger's Kidney Disease brought him to the point where his life was no longer sustainable and I had to make that hard choice, that it was at the Cat Doctors that I took him to, to leave this world peacefully. Again Dr. Givins spent some quality time with me in their nice little sitting area away form the lobby and helped me come to grips with this hard choice. Tigger has now gone ahead to wait for me in the after world and I am so grateful that I was, thanks to the Cat Doctor, able to let him go peacefully. I would trust all my cats to the Cat Doctor. The staff is always very friendly and takes good care of my senior cat, Bubs. Nothing is ever ignored and I always leave feeling informed about the best decisions that I should make regarding his health. They seem to genuinely care about my cat and always treat us with respect.

Very nice and skillful, just as long as the money lasted, after that we didn't matter. Like Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. In 2014 our 16 year old cat got sick, and they diagnosed him with kidney failure, and prescribed lifelong medication for him. He stayed there for treatment for a couple of weeks, and then we had to leave him there for about another month, to go out of state for awhile. Cost us several thousand dollars, but thankfully they saved his life. But it was a very different story when we called up for a refill a year later. They filled one for a year's worth, and then two months later, when we called to finish the other two refills they refused, claiming they needed a "RELATIONSHIP" with the cat, and refused to fill the rest of the medication. We told them we had moved, and didn't see the need to drive 90 minutes and pay for another visit just for them to finish the refill when all it took was a phone call to the pharmacy. The receptionist was rude and hung up on me several times. So it seems that we were nothing but a paycheck to them. There were a couple of other times when we had a question for the vet, and she refused to even come to the phone, or call us back. So we filled a complaint with the licensing board, and are now awaiting a decision. And he died on 3/30/16, when he was just about 18 years old. And he didn't need to die. All he needed was his medication. Did you ever notice how some people talk about being humane, but it always just boils down to money??

Have taken my cats to the Cat Doctor(s) for many years. I cannot say enough about their collective skill level and compassion. One of my cats has had a particularly difficult recurring aspergillis fungus and they have gone way above and beyond to both diagnose and treat him successfully. The entire staff deserves high praise for their compassion, friendliness and follow through. I have seen all of the veterinarians and you cannot go wrong in seeking any of their services and or advice. I would recommend this office highly and have the utmost confidence in everyone there.

The doctor and staff were amazing. Our cat got sick on Sunday and after a visit to the emergency vet we found out he had a tumor and was very sick, they sent him home with pain meds. Sadly there was nothing that could be done for him. I called Monday morning and they got us in that afternoon. It was extremely hard, he was a wonderful, loving, and funny cat, only 9 years old. The doctor and staff were caring, considerate, thoughtful and they will never know how much that meant. Today, Saturday, not even a week gone by and I came home to a condolence card from them. Just so thoughtful. If I could give more than 5 stars I would.

We had a really good experience over here at the cat doctor, they took great care of our cat and they explained after care in a very straightforward and easy to understand way and overall they just seem to be really good with our cat and that's what we love the most. No fancy, costly tests, no speculations regarding possible "liver" damage, no lectures forbidding cats to roam their own land. Dr. Wright proved experienced and practical in his assumptions regarding the history of cats and tick bites, mouse eating, colds, bites in scuffles, bacteria and viral infections. He examined, noted fever. Then gave IV for a few minutes, baby food in a large syringe, a bit of liquid pain reliever, a shot. Then told us Fluffy should eat voluntarily within 24 hours--he did good sign. Bill was $300 less than a different Vet with my other cat.

I brought my two male cats in to be neutered at 8 am. I was expecting to fill out the paperwork and drop them off, but there was very little paperwork and I was able to sit in and observe the preliminary examination. The doctor explained everything she was doing and gave me advice on feeding and building bonds with my cats, and let me see what earmites look like under a microscope. Grace, the receptionist, walked me through the estimate for everything I was paying for, which I found very helpful. I highly recommend this veterinarian to anyone with cats.

She answered all questions with very useful information and showed us how to take good care of our kittens.
