What a great dental experience for children! Themed rooms, movies on the ceiling and a prize at the end! This place makes my kids love the dentist! I wish there was a place like this for adults. We have been bringing our children there for since they were very small, one is now 13. We have always been very pleased with all the staff and they are so very attentive, accommodating and super fun and pleasant. We couldn’t love our dentist more! My children have been going since they were 18 months and the staff there is incredible with young ones. They move quickly, are family centered (my children laid on top of me the first 2 times), patient, gentle and use kid-friendly language to teach and talk with their pediatric patients. It’s also helpful to have themed rooms and TVs on the ceiling for cartoon watching during procedures etc. Dr. Whitney and the hygienists couldn’t be more professional, clinically capable or more calming for parents. I trust them 100% and am grateful for their presence in our lives!

you have to pay for services full price even if you have insurance...so you need to wait to be reimbursed by your insurance company. why they can't verify coverages and benefits before procedures etc makes zero sense. So be prepared to spend hundreds before you get reimbursed by insurance

Can't say enough good things. We are in and out with 2 young children for routine cleanings while still feeling like all of my questions are answered. My kids love going so much they ask when they are going to the dentist again everytime we drive by and cry if the answer is more than a few weeks.

I called this morning for an emergency appointment because my 3 year old was complaining of tooth pain and sensitivity. I was able to get a same-day appointment, and both the hygienist and Dr. Whitney were amazing with my son! He was at ease just chatting away with them! This practice is SO child-focused, I would never take him anywhere else. My mind is at ease, and my son feels great about visiting his dentist. Can't beat that. :)

This place was adorable! They treated my son so well and for the most part it was quick and easy. The only reason why it’s not a 5 star rating is because I filled out ALL the necessary paperwork online as it suggested in the reminder email and when I got there they didn’t have it/couldn’t find it and I needed to fill it out again with a 15 month old running around. Very overwhelming. But overall amazing place.

We came here after a really disappointing experience with another local pediatric dentist. When we arrived, our son’s name was on a board welcoming him as a new patient. The whole office environment was fun and engaging. The room we were brought to had relaxed lighting and our son got to pick his favorite movie! The dentist and dental assistant spent ample time gathering information about us, our son, and really made sure to make informed safe choices based on his history. My son didn’t want to leave- I recommend 100%! These people truly get kids.

Our daughters have been patients of SMPD for years, and we've always been more than pleased with our experiences with routine cleaning appointments. It wasn't until this week that our youngest had an injury to her mouth that we had to address an acute issue. When I called to share what had happened, I was pleasantly surprised to find I was speaking right away with a hygienist, and she spent so much time counseling & reassuring me. She offered to review pictures of the injury, and when I sent some later that afternoon after picking up my daughter from daycare, the hygienist called me back within half an hour (and at this point it was after hours). We scheduled an appointment for the next morning, and of course everything went smoothly during the appointment, as always. This experience far exceeded any expectations I had - in responsivenes of the staff & flexibility in fitting my daughter in for a next-day appointment. Not that we needed it, but we are reassured that our daughters belong to the best pediatric dental practice in the area.

My older son has been going here since he was 2 and we’ve never had a problem with him there. However, I can relate to the other mom who stated that the practice hires younger hygienists. My youngest who is now 4 could probably benefit from a hygienist who has children of their own or at least someone who has experience as a caregiver.

We started bringing our daughter here for a trauma to the roof of her mouth and everyone was so kind and patient during that difficult time for us. I especially love Dr. Wignall. She is personable, down to earth and really spends the time to review everything with you. She even provided me with her cell phone number to send pictures and updates or to ask questions which is just unheard of these days and unbelievably appreciative!!! We now take our 2 kids (ages 2 and 4) for their cleanings and what’s great and so convenient is they are able to take both kids at once! They have screens on the ceiling to allow the kids to watch a movie during their cleaning and my 4 year old just loves that! He thinks it’s so fun because he knows he’s being spoiled since we aren’t big on electronics so it certainly makes the appointment run smoother. All the hygienist have been great and they are so patient, especially with our daughter who usually screams during the whole appointment but today she did great while the hygienist pretended to brush her baby's teeth, she sang songs while cleaning her teeth etc. They really know how to work with kids to make them feel comfortable. I can’t imagine bringing the kids anywhere else!! I highly recommend Southern Maine Pediatric Dentistry!!

Our son had some white fillings done and we had some concerns about the anesthesia. The team from Southern Maine Pediatric Dentistry as well as the anesthesia team from Florida were amazing! We were given a detailed rundown of everything that was going to happen as well as updates during the procedure. We couldn’t be happier with the whole process and they definitely put us at ease!

I highly disagree with the other review. The experience for my 6 year old daughter who has never had anxiety and actually loves going to doctors and dentists was so traumatic that we will never return. In our experience the practice hires too many young dentists without enough experience working with children. We left the office during a visit where she was about to have a simple procedure. The dentist disregarded my concerns and discussed at length details that made my daughter more afraid. For a simple filling and spacer he made her so traumatized that she began crying and he was no longer comfortable treating her at all. He then wanted us to schedule an appointment 3 months later and fly an anesthesiologist from Florida and pay $2000 to fly them here and put her to sleep in order to have a procedure that was never necessary. We left the appointment and went back to our previous dentist to find out that she did not even have a cavity and there was no need for a filling and that the spacer could wait. My daughter had NO problem opening her mouth and having a cleaning plus sealants done at her old dentist even after this experience. The approach of the dentist can mean everything to a child and means everything to the parent as well. Having patients pay thousands of dollars and risk a child’s health by using anesthesia when it was not even necessary is unacceptable!

The above words don't always describe a visit to the dentist. Yesterday, we had to go for some sealants. My son was taken in right at his appointment time, and the process was very quick. He shows no stress at all coming here - and it used to be a big battle to get him to even sit in the chair. I was very impressed with Keagan, the hygienist my daughter saw yesterday. It was our first time having a dental cleaning and visiting this office. We recently had the best experience at Southern Maine Pediatric Dentistry! My toddler had a routine visit and had a great time! The staff here were all so friendly. The hygienist was very nice and patient with my little one. She took the time to explain everything that she was going to do, and demonstrated that the tooth polishing tool wouldn't hurt at all. There was a stuffed animal with a toy toothbrush nearby, so my little one could practice brushing the animal's teeth. Dr. Wignall came by at the end of the appointment to check on everything and was a pleasure to talk with. All in all I highly recommend bringing your kids here!

Amazing customer service in how they deal with patients! My son is autistic and Emily (who is awesome) explains what she will do before doing it, turning on or off the cartoons depending on his needs and just a wonderful all around atmosphere. Dr. Wignall is equally patient, calming and super with my son. And she has extracted teeth in surgery when he was younger with several cavities:)

So glad a friend recommended I take my two year old here. He wasn’t scared at all. He’s had Michaela as his hygienist twice now and she is energetic, friendly, and makes the experience fun and easy. We’ve seen both dentists and they were great. The office is inviting and kid friendly with games and decor. Friends with older children that recommended I bring my son here also said the dentists seem to want what’s truly best for the health of the child and don’t just push treatments trying to make more money off you, which I really appreciate.
