My husband had an appointment for his yearly checkup yesterday and I decided to go with him as he forgets some of the questions he has for the doctor. He saw Dr Schmoll and was assisted by Marlene the LPN. First of all I was very impressed by the facility. It was extremely clean and the facility is very new and modern. Marlene was so personable and informative. She asked pertinent questions especially about depression and PTSD. And expressed the VA's concern about the many Veterans with mental health issues and how the VA is very concerned about the number of suicides of Veterans. She also presented my husband with a Vietnam service pin which meant a lot to us as we didn't even know there was such a thing. Dr Schmoll was extremely personable with a pleasing sense of humor. He asked a lot of questions and went over each item we had on our list. My husband asked about the process of getting his meds from the VA and Dr Schmoll addressed the question and set him up to receive his meds through the VA. He prescribed a new med for my husband and recommended he try it and see if he notices a positive response to it. He didn't act like he was rushed or too busy to listen. We were both extremely impressed with the facility, Marlene and Dr. Schmoll.

When the clinic first open they were awesome. Now that they are up and running they seem to matching up to bigger hospitals. The quality of care does not match that of what I received when I treated at a KU. Wait times are long not in the lobby but in the exam room. They rush you while you are in the with doctor.

Worst quality of care I've experienced! They definitely perform the minimum testing. Dr Ryan was rushed to another appointment making me feel my health concerns were not addressed. Patient Advocate it is for transfer!

So just got home from the VA Clinic. Went to have my throat checked. I started having drainage last night and this morning, hardly slept a wink. My throat is raw, i'm sneezing like crazy, blowing my nose like a faucet, my head feels like it's full of air. The NP I have looked in my ears, palpated my throat and looked in my throat and said she'll get me some Flonase in the mail (IN 10 DAYS)!!!! How in the heck is that going to help me in 10 days? I need relief TODAY, not 10 days from now. I'll be switching providers because the NP has just blown me off the 3 times I've gone to the VA for care. And the VA wonders why Veterans hate going there. Not only that my appointment was at 2PM. The NP didn't even come in until 225 PM. I can only imagine what my notes must say in the EHR. Poor service from this NP and a lot to learn about listening to patients problems instead of hurrying through so you can take time off to screw around!

Valerie, Chris, Dwayne and Erica were at the other facility, and all are at the new Shawnee location now. Great team and always professional with due diligence caring for the patient. Dr. Ryan is my primary care physician at Shawnee, and she is always on top of things and attentive to my healthcare needs. Much better by far than having to go to the KCVA hospital, and the parking at Shawnee puts the KCVA to absolute shame. I would give 10 stars!
