HORRIBLE would rather die went in the Emergency department 2 weeks ago for severe pain and I was 6.5 weeks pregnant they did an IV when I first got there I told her it was burning my vein she said it was normal and stayed there for 5 hours 30 min before seeing a nurse again, still in pain and my vein was still burning badly. Then an hour after the nurse came in for a second time I got to see a doctor and he ordered an ultra sound. The ultra sound tech came like 30 min later. didn't see anyone for another 2 hours before they said they couldn't help but the baby was okay and I could go home.

Back in February I started having pains shooting through my chest and back; kind of like heartburn but more extreme. I thought it had been heartburn but after two continuous hours of nonstop pain with ibuprofen doing nothing to stop it, I finally decided to go to the emergency room (to put in context, I tend to tough it out and avoid going to the doctor at all costs. The fact I willingly went to the emergency room should give an idea of how the pain was). By the time I got to the emergency room I was having trouble avoiding vocalizing the pain every time it hit. I've had worse pain before but never so continuous, and it was beginning to take its toll. The nurses saw me and did their tests. Most were very kind but one felt the need to make the comment that I "must have a low tolerance to pain." This was while I was gripping the side of the bed bracing myself for another wave. I was a bit surprised at the comment but was a bit distracted to follow up. It was then determined I needed gallbladder surgery ASAP. The doctor and his team who did the surgery were great. I was told my stay in the hospital would be overnight; I went in Monday morning and would leave by Tuesday afternoon / early evening. The nurses attending to me were very kind. The food... let's just say it was hit or miss. :) When Tuesday morning came around I was told by a nurse that the doctor who did my surgery would be coming around to check on and then release me. I patiently waited but never saw him and nobody had heard from him. Even the nurses started to get as anxious as I was to reach him after a while. They said they tried calling his office but got no answer. Around 7pm I asked again and was told that at that point in the evening he had likely gone home and I was immediately told that while they could try calling him he probably wouldn't bother coming back to release me. And... that was that. They never even tried. Wednesday morning came around and I again asked if they had heard from the doctor. I was getting concerned about getting billed for another day, which would cost me about $300 per day based on my insurance (a hit I could not afford, especially considering I should have been released the day before). They STILL had not heard from him and nobody could give me any answers. I remained patient with their staff but I was starting to get pretty frustrated at the lack of communication all around. It was only when the combined requests of me and my family members did we start to hear them page the doctor over their PA system and started to see results. Finally a nurse came in and said they heard from the doctor and he said I could go (which means he apparently was NOT coming by to check on me after all, as I had been told). I asked what the delay was and the only answer I got back was "It was a communication issue." I was out of the hospital within an hour. I started to get worried I would be charged for this day I should not have been there. $300 is quite a hit to take for a stay I wasn't supposed to have, so I watched for the bills. Sure enough I had been charged for it. I called and spoke to someone in Billing about it, who was very kind, and said she would look into it. I waited about two weeks but heard nothing back. I called again and talked to another person, who saw the note in my account. They said they would look into it. A while later they called back and told me there was no record the doctor ever told them to discharge me, so I would have to have the doctor's office deal with the extra charge. So I called and left a message with the doctor. They quickly got back to me and said they DID discharge me, and they had the evidence. It was the patient care-side of things that had goofed and tried passing it on to them. The doctor's office immediately sent the proof to the Billing department, who reluctantly admitted the mistake and removed $300 from my bill. The whole thing soured me on Providence. Unless I am literally dying and have no choice, if there's a next time I'll be looking elsewhere.

I was very displeased with the visit to their emergency room... there was, absolutely, no sense of urgency, no one to check anyone in (because they were away from the desk...), and there was, literally, a person on the floor gaging and getting sick. I told them about the person on the floor and they didn't move! I couldn't believe that this was happening! No one, who values their health or their life, should go to this place! And this was a real life episode... not on TV!

Care was good, although the health issue was pretty routine. My issue is and always has been with their billing. When the first bill came, we discovered they had filed with the wrong insurance company. How does that happen when they photocopy your card as the patient is writhing in pain? A request to receive an itemized billing, so that we would know exactly what we were paying for, was met with - "well, we can set you up with a payment plan while you wait for us to submit the request for an itemized billing." WHAT? No way. After 6 weeks and multiple phone calls, we received the itemized billing and paid our share of the bill. Today, NINE MONTHS after the medical issue, we have received another bill for an additional amount of money, and guess what? They never fixed the mistake regarding having filed with the wrong insurance company. 20 minutes on hold resulted in this message: "All our representatives are busy - please leave your name, account number, and phone number, and we will return your call within the next business day." Keep driving, folks - drive right on past this place when looking for medical care. If you don't have apoplexy from whatever ails you at the time, I can guarantee you'll have it when you start dealing with their billing department.

My husband is here right now with an ankle fracture. The nurses and staff are helpful, friendly, and nice. They are taking excellent care of him.

I called regarding an appointment that was scheduled for today and was greeted rudely by “Kim”. She sounded like she didn’t want to entertain my questions and kept repeating that she was at the hospital and knew nothing regarding the doctors office. That is understood, however, don’t be rude and keep trying to defer me from being on the phone. You shouldn’t be treating people like that. All I did was ask her if the doctors office was on lunch and she proceeded to keep repeating that she was at the hospital to get me off the phone. Extremely rude.

I recently had back surgery at Providence Medical Center by the best neurosurgeon in the Kansas City area and I would highly recommend Providence for the professional care I received while I was there by everyone I encountered.

While some of the staff are great, the care you get there is spotty at best. I can't think of a good reason to go there regardless of the fact that it is the closest, and when you are only hoping for the best. The treatment you get is poor and some of the ER nurses are just plain mean and cruel.

I have never had anything but good service at this hospital

I was going to give this place two stars because the wait was short and some parts of the staff were nice but the most important parts of my experience were so bad I wound up changing it to one star. I had a terrible experience. I went in because I was experiencing very bad pain in my foot. I had to leave work early and go to the hospital because I was unable to work any longer because of it. Upon being taken back and talking to a nurse (whose name I never actually received), I was judged by both the nurse and the PA for the state that my shoes were in. First of all, there is no reason at all I should ever be getting judged for my shoes by anyone in a hospital. I was wearing them because they were the only ones that gave my foot only sort of relief at work. They were beat up and broken in and comfortable. I work in a warehouse so they look raggedity but that is besides the point. I own many pairs of shoes and these people made side glances at each other and smirks at each other as if they knew if I had better shoes, I wouldn’t have been in there at all. I sat in the examining room for over an hour and was never checked on by them. Never asked if I needed anything for my pain. Never even asked my pain level. I sat there for over an hour, not walking or doing anything with my foot while it continued to throb with pain. When my X-ray results finally came back, the “doctor” quickly came in, told me “nothing” was wrong with my foot (i sprained it), told me to ice it three times a day for the next three days and then left. My job requires me to walk miles and MILES for the entire 10-12 hours of my shift. If my foot is sprained I would like to know how to prevent this from happening again because the pain is explosive. But he offered almost nothing. I had to ask the nurse to stop and give me advice, which seemed to annoy her. I was on the verge of tears because all I wanted was some help. I just wanted to know how to prevent my foot from hurting like this so I can do my job without pain. She looked at me with a blank stare and told me to get new shoes. I asked her what would be the best kind, thinking she would know since she is also on her feet all day. She got an attitude with me, asking “you don’t think our feet hurt too??” Like yes! That’s exactly why I’m asking. You’re a nurse you know about feet and you’re on yours a lot, you should be able to give great advice. But no. And when I asked if this should be okay to walk on for the 58 hour week I have next week she said “that’s on you to decide”. I don’t have the medical knowledge to determine how long a sprain needs to take to rest and heal before I should really be walking miles on concrete on it again. That’s literally why I went to a HOSPITAL. with DOCTORS and NURSES. Because that’s their job. To help me and answer these questions for me. They didn’t answer any of my questions. They made me and my pain feel invalidated. The nurse conveniently didn’t sign the release papers or I would make a formal complaint on her, but I am never going back to this hospital ever again. Some parts are good but the core important parts of the staffing are uneducated and don’t care about their jobs or patients. I am extremely disappointed in the “care” I received.

I love the medical people at Providence but the billing is at least a minus 10. I have 2 examples. I had a medical test for which they billed ($1800) and received Medicare payment. I didn't get a bill until 18 months later when it was in collections for $1800. I found that they had not posted Medicare payment correctly and I actually owed less than $200. I requested a revised bill multiple times thru the collections company. They kept saying that they had requested it. Finally in November of 2017, we drove from Springfield, Missouri to Kansas City (6 hours roundtrip). I went to the hospital to try to get a correct copy of the bill. I went Kansas City, Kansas but found out that they had moved to Missouri. The nice lady at the hospital called the billing department and I explained the problem. She said she could see the problem - the Medicare payment showed on her records but was not applied - I asked her to send me a copy of the corrected bill. I have medical credits that I can use to pay the bill but it had to be submitted by December 31st for me to get reimbursed. Never got the bill. Called again in December and asked for the bill. Never got it. The lady in KCMO said they would write it off and got very nasty with me. She said that there were other bills and that would just write it off as bad debt. I asked her to send me copies of those bills - and I would see what I could do - but she never did. All that was in December 2017. In 2018 (I think it was August) I once again got the SAME BILL for $1800. I was not happy. At the time I got it I had blood clots in both lungs and was barely functioning. Second, I was checking my credit report recently and found several bills in collection. I know that I owe something but I have NEVER received a copy or those bills. I changed my address in 2016 and 2017 at providence so my address should be correct (the last time they said bills were going to my old address). I have had the same address since April of 2016. I tried to call the collections office but they are closed on Fridays. Somehow the $1800 billed by mistake managed to find me so where are these other bills? I need copies to send so I can reimbursed by my medical credits. I have to turn them in by December this year. Unfortunately, I have already used all my medical credits for this year and won't get reimbursed till next February. I do not want to deal with that nasty woman in billing again. My phone number was changed several months ago but my address has not changed since 2016. I am absolutely furious over this. I thought there that there is a law that a creditor has to give you a bill in a timely matter. Maybe I need to get Medicare involved, especially after what occurred with the first bill after it was supposedly corrected in November 2017 but I got it again in 2018 and was wrong! Do not trust Providence billing unless you can verify it. All my other medical from hospitals in Springfield are billed correctly and timely. They are very easy to work with.

lporting .

It's bad, if you have a choice go somewhere else. poor healthcare, very unorganized discharge process, poor billing dept that cant bill properly, what a mess.

The receptionist in the breast center communicated with me only by holding up her finger, because she was on a personal phone call throughout checking me in. I was also late for my appointment because they gave me the wrong location. To top it all off, the dr was rude and seemed irritated with me for being there. I hope they don't treat all their patients like that. I will have my doctor refer me elsewhere in the future.

I had a severely sprained ankle and they took good care of me so I could have a quick recover (at this age it is not easy!) my B-I-L was having bleeding and KU said he had an infection! Comes to find out it was kidney cancer!! Prov. found it, and sent us to a great DR for his care. We caught it early and is doing well!

Michelle Allen

Took great care of me when a post-Nascar weekend, migraine headache got the worst of me.

I am a firm believer that it's not the hospital but the staff that makes a patient's experience memorable one way or the other. The doctors and nurses in the Emergency Department who took care of me when I broke my ankle a few days ago were truly incredible. Two particular nurses made my experience sooo much easier. Brent and Tori are both nurses in the ED and they both went out of their way to keep me calm and relaxed. Brent spent a couple hours talking with me about his nursing school days (as I had just applied to nursing programs), and all about his family. He didn't even flinch when I grabbed his hand once the Dr started reducing my breaks. He stood there with me and told me stories to keep my mind off of the pain. I can honestly say that I hope I am able to help people the way he helped me through that miserably painful experience. Providence is lucky to have both of these wonderful nurses on their staff!

Have hated this hospital before for the small things we went in by ambulance from st Luke’s community Because it was critical! I have to say they saved the love of my life two days ago it is amazing he is alive and I am so great full for the cardiologists that saved him! Also the staff that put up with us for days! Icu and cardiac unit ! Thank you

If I could give this place no stars that would be awesome. Let me say the doctor who did my surgery was great. But there were a couple of rude other doctors I wish I would not have had to deal with. I will never come back to this place no matter how close it is to my house.

Shannon Elevier

I should have known better then to come here. I have a chronic disorder that I have had for over 20 years and I only go to the ER when the pain gets out of control. Last night I could not manage my pain. The doctor attempted to treat me without any pain meds as I screamed and cried in pain. The doctor told me "quit crying" and when I asked him to stop because it hurt so bad he said " do you really want me to stop, I'm trying to help you" then he told me that I could "just leave" I've never felt so low in my life. I will be filing a complaint.

My mother just had a pacemaker put in at Providence Medical Center and we were very impressed with the hospital staff and Dr. Prashanth Katrapati, M.D., FACC. Dr. Katrapati has excellent communications skills as well as being a competent and caring physician. We also were very impressed with Providence Medical Center's cardio-vascular unit! The food was great and her room was kept very clean. The Cardiac Center staff were very welcoming as well. Overall, a wonderful experience!

If I could give this hospital a -10 I would. Please do not take any family members here. My story is too long to post. Just know they do not care about patients or the lives of those they are serving. They will refuse life saving doctors if you have no insurance. Please please don’t take this lightly. The most unethical hospital in the state of Kansas.

Ronald Campbell

I went for a cancer screening and asked how much it would cost. She said I have insurance, so no worries. She also said her system was down, so she couldn't even tell me what the co-pay would be. I refused to pay the $1,600 bill and I will never be back.

Labor and Delivery experience was amazing. My husband and I were required to utilize Providence because of our preferred provider although our first preference was a birthing center. While we entered the experience with an open mind and no expectations, we were blown away at the level of care and assistance we received the weeks leading up to our natural hospital birth and the labor and delivery itself. The nurses made a point of getting to know us and welcoming us to labor and delivery with each visit. We went twice a week for a few weeks until birth. I was not induced and chose a non-medicated natural hospital birth. The nurses worked with my amazing doctor, Dr. Mistee Allen, to provide me with the exact experience I was hoping for. They were calm, encouraging, and professional in all areas of my labor and delivery. We chose to preserve cord blood and tissue as well as keep my placenta. They cared for us above and beyond our expectation. We were not just a number in a rotating wing of patience and babies. During our two days of recovery, the nurses that cared for me and the baby were fantastic! Although Providence does not offer a lactation consultant, Yolanda was my savior. She helped me gain confidence and patience. She assisted my husband and I in staying calm, taking our baby to the nursery when we were all frantic to calm down and gave us invaluable tips that we utilized that first week home, that if we didn't have...it would have been incredibly hard for my husband, myself, and our newborn. Sarah and Mary were my nurses and I got to know them so well. They were encouraging and assisting in my initial recovery offering advice and tips that one doesn't realize they need until you are sitting there going, man this is a bit more difficult than I anticipated! Overall I highly recommend Dr. Mistee Allen as your maternity and family care practitioner and the wing of the Providence Labor and Delivery Center for your birthing experience. I hope that more people begin to choose Providence so it encourages them to offer more labor and delivery experience services as well as potentially update the wing in the future. Some things in the room did seem outdated and forgotten however that did not diminish our experience or our recommendation. A hospital will invest in the areas they are utilized and this is one area that I feel people may not realize is incredibly fantastic.

Lyn Elcock Huggins

Not only did I receive mediocre patient care, but now I’m finally receiving bills 5 months after the fact. The bill looked as if it came from some sort of collection agency. I never received a bill from the actual hospital. I know I owe money for the “ER DOCTOR” for the 45 seconds he graced me with his presence and still no billing statement. My health insurance company processed those “services” in two weeks time so there is no excuse. This “hospital” could do us all a favor by going bankrupt. Do not ever use Providence Place unless you are prepared to lose your loved one.

Never got a bill, then boom they are trying to sue me... so out of order

Do NOT take any of your loved one's to this morgue!!! Matter of fact don't take your enemy there either!! That place should have serious law suites and the number of deathes need to be investigated. I have had 4 not 1 not 2 not even 3 but 4 people from my best friends family to my own in the last 6 month's die here!! And every last one of them only went in with the flu and one got sent home TWICE saying there is nothing wrong and she died that night in here sleep this was just this week then 2 months ago my uncle same thing went in and they put him in ICU and we begged to transfer him and they refused and said they would not support oxygen for the move and we would have to take him in our own car remember " hes in ICU with the flu we knew they weren't taking care of him right and they refused.. next day...HE DIED!! 2 other friends family of mine in the last 3 months have passed there! It's pathetic!! How do you people aleep at night! Your the only hospital i constantly have just watched people die at over the years that shouldn't have! They don't try to be good to your loved one's instead nurses act like they are being bothered and are absolutely rude as hell!! It is disgusting the way these people will treat you or your loved one's! I wouldn't take my hamster to them people!

I wish I could give this place no stars. I suffer from a condition that causes great pain, as well as other issues with my digestive tract. Picture what it must feel like to swallow ground up glass. That's how I feel daily. Sometimes, my specialists, who are out of state, recommend going to the ER for pain control when my pain medication isn't controlling the pain. I've had that happen twice since I moved near Providence 3 years ago. Both times I was treated like a junkie. They did nothing to find out the cause of the extra pain. They shot me up with morphine, which is weaker than my daily pain meds. They pushed me off into a waiting room with other people to wait for lab results when I came in one time with sepsis, a deadly blood infection. During one of my hospital stays up there, I asked for my IV hydration bags that I do at home because my gut doesn't function properly. I can't stay hydrated without it. I will starve to death without my IV nutrition as well. When I asked for my IV stuff, the nurse, fully aware of my condition, brings me a cup of ice water and tells me to drink it. That's why I'm dehydrated, she tells me. I try to explain my condition again. When I page for my pain medication, it would take them no less than an hour to comply everytime. The doctor refused to write an order for my IV nutrition. I was told to eat more. I ended up lying to the doctor so he would discharge me, telling him I was feeling much better, just so I could be discharged and suffered at home. I needed my IV meds that they were refusing me. I took my son up there just the other day. His tonsils were crazy swollen. It looked like he had been punched in the face. Triage pages for an acute room and then immediately corrects herself to express. We were there less than an hour. The nurse treated my child as if he were a burden on her. He was very well behaved yet she made him feel uncomfortable enough he wouldn't let her near him. I informed them that he was not getting better with the antibiotics and his strep test earlier that week had come back negative. We are in between insurance. The doctor came in, shined a light down his throat, and said, "It looks fine. I'll write a prescription for prednisone, which will help with the inflammation." He was diagnosed with a bacterial infection even tho they were told his throat culture came back negative and the antibiotics weren't helping him get better. They never took blood work nor did they do any other tests except look at his throat. We were in and out so quick, it was pathetic. I just wanted answers on why my son's tonsils were still swollen and they wouldn't even try to find out. Yet, I complain of belly pain and they do a crazy amount of xrays when my file clearly states I'm not to have any radiation or I could develop leukemia. I also remind them of this. Not to mention, I always explain what is wrong with my belly. Most of my problems can be diagnosed with an ultrasound. Please don't go here. Outpatient services are not too bad. But, ER and inpatient is a mess. If you value your life, please go somewhere else. People call it "Provideath" for a reason.

Zer01816 .

The nurses here are very bad at there job they don't come in to really check up on you and if you staying over night with a love they don't even have the audacity to ask if you need anything. I can understand if they were busy but if there is five or seven nurses out outside just laughing and telling jokes like they have nothing to do how about you get up and go check on people. Your job is to care for the sick not be an ass and think about yourself. I will never understand why some nurses get paid good money to be so rude to people.

Maximus Dobies

Not only does this place discussed me, but they also are very poor at the definition of health and care. Their staff is rude mannord and the doctors act as if they graduated from a community college! I do not recommenced this hospital or nursing home to anyone!

Michelle Hudson

Worst experience I've ever had with health care. The physician was very caring but the system is horrible. If you want to be punished for being someone who actually pays your bills, this is the place to go.

AJ Glaze

Providence is a poor excuse for a hospital. They are not willing to work with patients. They charge private pay patients more than they charge insurance companies! When you try and work out your bill (as most hospitals will give a courtesy write off) they tell you then will only give you a tiny discount IF you pay in full over the phone. This hospital has went down hill. They are a poor excuse for health care. I hope that no one I know goes there for medical treatment!

Giselle Mendoza

Nurses have bad attitudes and they take forever.

Everyone here is pretty nice and professional. Just go with the flow and you will have a good time.

Horrible experience!!!! too much to write smh they might be better off shutting down or new management.

Vikki Mullins

More than 2 hours I sat in an exam room with my son bleeding & missing the tip of his finger. When he asked if he could take some ibuprofen for pain they told him computers were down so they couldn't do anything. Computers being down isn't a valid excuse for poor patient care! The nurse said I should be patient. When your kid has been bleeding for 2 straight hours without care in a medical facility, I wonder how patient you'd be?

Kyione Allen

Very horrible experience went thru the emergency room they couldn't tell me what's going on, didn't try to which btw I had to leave work just so they can tell they really don't know but gave me referrals mind I I'm seeing spots, my heart beating fast and shaking headaches and nausea smh obviously something is wrong. Mind I sat there 3 1/2 without no one telling me what's going on with my discharge so I left out told the nurse I'm leaving and here she says oh your paperwork has been sitting here

Jeffery Bennett

Called their billing department to make pay arrangements. They only go out 6 months. So much for that plan. I guess they would rather write it off than take payments. I'm very disappointed in their response.

Every time I come here I never leave satisfied!!! It’s near my house so I find myself giving this place the benefit of the doubt and again... the blew it! The nurses seem to come to a job they hate!! They don’t care about their patients

Had appendix removed. I was dreading the operation but appendicitis pain will force anyone to the Doctor. I was glad I went here. The doctor and nurses were great! I was in and out of there quick. Thank you for being there! Only thing I would have done differently is to have an xray done to rule out kidney stones especially since it's been 4 days and I am still in pain.

We couldn't have asked for a better experience as my 98yr old grandmother passed. They got the family whatever we needed and consistently made sure we were doing ok and that grandma was comfortable. There is a Christian warmth here that I've never experienced in a hospital before. Thank you to all the doctors, nurses and cnas

We were so very pleased with the care given to my mother when she had her knee replacement surgery! All of the nurses were kind, patient, and caring in all of their interactions with her. The physical therapist and occupational therapists were wonderful and went above & beyond in caring for and helping my mother achieve the goals they had set for her. And when she felt like she couldn’t do another exercise or take another step, they gently encouraged her. We couldn’t have been happier with the care she was given.

what a horror ... for some reason, sick people have to wait for hours in the waiting room. until they are accepted !? what disrespect. what a bestial attitude to people. when will you learn to accept people in the next 10 minutes after arrival? people writhe in the reception room ... but you have a system. No doctors apparently. saving...... junk system.

A family member is currently a patient and is receving exceptional medical care by the nurses and his doctors. Thank you Providence Medical Center!

Brought in my wife for chronic pain and she been sitting for an hour and still no one has even attempted to bring her any medication this is a poor excuse for a express care team

K.O Grahamz

If I could rate zero I would my wife went in after recently being in a car wreck blood pressure very high and ask a nurse recommended her to go they said that's what ask a nurse always says and that she should expect to be in pain and was going to send her on her way she left to get a second opinion

Hospital so so I have lived in kansas 13 years some visits seem like they just don't listen other times they are on top of it but reminds me I had a manager who just hated them! He used to joke don't go to providence unless you want to die!!! He used to say come in with a heart attack and say providence will tell oh you will be fine and send you home!! Come in with your leg cut off providence say oh you will be fine and send you home!!! But lastly my best exspierience was ku I don't go there unless something drastic once I had a bump in my breast they took it out just like that! This last one 2 years ago bit by a cat my arm was so swoll and hand my own doctor sent me to my wasn't supposed to have surgery til the next day they took a picture so they could see inside w/o telling me til right before I went in at 12 midnight they rushed me into emergency surgery! Told me pus had started another path around my wrist and headed straight to a major blood vessel! They saved my life!! I would chose ku any day!! If I waited another day I wouldn't be here writing this I didn't even know another path had started! Only thing you will wait there but worth it! I had to spend 3 days in there after every day asking to go home til I could close my hand on my own I had to spend another day was so glad when my hand finally closed!!! But they saved me!!!!

Do NOT GO HERE! I've had surgery here twice and both times I never got a bill within the first three months of post op yet when I finally get the bill they say it's my final notice then a month after that it's in collections. They have sued me TWICE over less than 6 month old bills that were less than a grand. When you call to get an itemized list of what they're charging you for they're rude and unhelpful. When you call to try and work out a payment plan they are rude and unhelpful! This hospital is owned by prime and is a FOR PROFIT hospital. Save yourself the aftermath of pain frustration and anger and just go somewhere else...

Went in for a stroke and my whole right side was unusable. I couldn't move... I was left in the same position for a few days... I kept telling the nurses that it was hurting my bottom from sitting in the same place for days and they did nothing... finally, one compassionate night nurse moved me, and found that I developed bed sores really bad bed sores... the wound care team came in the next day hung a tiny sign on my wall that said I had bed sores.... it was so small that we didn't notice it was there for 2 days.. they took pics and dressed the bed sores and never came back. I was sent to a rehab hospital to work with me to gain strength in my right side and on arrival I told them about my bed sores and they told me that providence didn't mention at all that I had bed sores... I've been home for a week now and I'm still trying to heal the sores... thanks to midamerica rehabilitation hospital, they are getting better... because they actually cared enough to treat them every day... After the way the hospital staff treated me and tried to hide the fact that I developed bed sores I got while under their care... I refuse to ever go back to that hospital... you couldn't pay me enough to go back!

This hospital should be shut down doctors and nurses have online degrees, they are rude all the time, they misdiagnosed my mother they were treating her for indigestion for two years but it turned out to pancreatic cancer and bt yhe time they caught it it was to late, my sisters mom was seen in the ER and they treated her that morning for heart burn and indigestion and sent her home she went back that night and had a massive heartache and passed away in the ER

I was born here, so yea....

The billing office is so rude. I have done billing, I know what is right and what is wrong. They try to get you to pay bills you do not owe by using an extra layer of hassle, with a second off-site billing department. Even when you can tell them in detail, what they have done wrong, they still say you owe the bill. Finally, just had my insurance company take over the problem. I can only imagine the people who just pay the bill, because they are intimidated or are not familiar with billing. Just pass this hospital by, go to KU or Saint Lukes. My husband was in the hospital for a long time. During this time they have made multiple billing errors, that I have had to spend hours trying to get them to correct.

I had total hip replacement surgery at Providence with a Providence surgeon and have nothing but good things to say about every person and service that cared for me. From the pre-surgery education class through the successful surgery and the inpatient therapy, I was blessed with the best care and outcome I could have ever hoped for. I also did more than a month of outpatient physical therapy at the Providence Physical Therapy department and received amazing care and concern from my caregivers there as well. I have worked in health care and have been a patient at several other healthcare facilities in other states and would put Providence up against any of those others at any time. Thanks to my Providence surgeon and caregivers, I am now pain-free and walking without a limp after more than three very miserable years.

Staff was kind. But I’m skeptical, because this was my first time there. You can never be sure of how things really Are until you spend a little time...

I Absolutely Hate this place 3 times now my family has gone there and 3 times it was absolutely Horrible! - First instance was when my father was admitted to the Er for chest pain. first they put him in a hallway, "due to lack of room" . then the both the doctors and nurses were just plain rude, didn't seem to care at all! My dad has enlarged Heart so the risk of having a heart attack is extremely high. They just didn't care which worried both my mother and me. when my mother asked if they were going to admit him or treat to help him feel better the nurse went off at my mother, then acted like the victim and called security to have my mother escorted out of the building. the next day we picked my father up who had said they never did treat him or put him in a room he stayed in the hall all night. -Second Instance was when my husband, who is type 1 diabetic, had blood sugar spike and stomach pain. they took forever to have him admitted didn't even check his blood sugar or anything. my husband is also a recovering drug addict so when the nurse came and offered i declined telling her that it wouldn't be good for him. i stepped into the waiting room to check my son who was with my mother-in-law for no longer then a minute and came back to find she gave him the pain killers anyway without listening to me. i was appalled, her response when i asked why she didn't honor mine and his wishes for no pain killers was that she didn't want to hear him complain about pain ans said he would be fine. he wasn't, he was tweaking after being discharged and I had to spend almost a week straight with him when he came down from the high, it was sad and it just made more angry to see him withdraw again after being clean for 5 years prior to that. -Third and finale Instance was today. my adopted Sister brought my youngest niece to the ER when an allergic reaction she had gotten yesterday had started spreading to her eye. my sister put her in what was comfortable for her and left. now my youngest niece is extremely shy by nature so when the nurse came in she shied away from her, she also plays rough with her boy cousins,my sons, which resulted in a cut on her lip. the nurse was extremely rude to my sister and called DCF on my sister accusing my sister of beating her. so NO I don't recommend this Hospital at all. to anyone. It may be close but it is far from the best staff are rude and jump to conclusion at a drop of a hat.

First rate experience all around.

If I could give them no stars I would, I recently visited for a bartholins cyst and was treated incorrectly and not even put on medicine so when I went to see an OB to get the catheter taken out they told me it was never draining the cyst and was placed in there wrong so now it’s infected. I sat there for 4 hours and they still didn’t do their job correctly. I’ll never go there again.

Services rendered at Shawnee Mission Medical Center were great, but doctor and billing were through Providence Medical Group. Avoid if at all possible. Their billing department is a nightmare to deal with. I attempted to pay a $21.03 bill twice, but they never took out the payment and then sent me to collections - over $21. They also switched me to paperless billing without my knowledge or permission and sent me to collections less than 14 days after the third bill (that I paid) was delivered. Would go to Shawnee Mission again but next time I will do my homework and request a different doctor/surgeon if they have any link with this organization.

I had an emergency appendectomy surgery back in June of 2017. Everything was great, staff and nurses were great. Got my main surgery bill cleared. I received 3 bills after that, that I have been paying off on since. Since I have no health insurance. Now in Feb of 2018, I received nother bill for "hosp care day 1". Im looking at this 2,000 bill like, why am I just now getting this 8 months later. I call the company to try to set up a payment plan. They say, "I don't think they'll allow that since you've gone since August without paying. I told them I'm just now receiving this bill I had no idea i was being billed since August. They said call providence and see if they'll knock a part off since you have no health insurance. I called them. The lady who answered was extremely rude. She said "well you had surgery, you know you have to pay something." I told her yeah I know I do, but I'm just now receiving this bill 8 months later. She just said "yeah, you still knew you had to pay something." All I asked was if they offered a special rate for self paying patients. She should have simply said no we don't , and not have humiliated me over the phone.

The workers were very rude and disrespectful when asked a question or favor. This experience and others sure made me change my mind on where I would have my baby in the next few months. I would like to be in a welcoming and kind environment not one where I am being shown little to no respect.

Everyone we've been in contact with since arriving has been very pleasant and helpful, however I saw one of your payroll employees (S.H.) use her foot to call the elevator. Her hands weren't full and she wasn't alone. Her supervisor was with her as well. Someone what could've pushed the button. I don't think that was very appropriate.

My son severly cut his thumb trying to catch a mirror as it fell. The ER nurse was great. ER Doctor ( I wish I could remember his name) came in and explained what he would need to do. Deadening shots were given. Over the next 20 minutes, many different ER employees came in to look at my sons thumb, after having heard about it. The curved cut went under the thumbnail. The Doctor had to stitch through the nail to secure the end of the thumb. AAA+++ Wonderful treatment, job and experience. I highly recommend! PEOPLE ALWAYS HAVE SOMETHING BAD TO SAY ABOUT EVERYTHING. Shawnee Mission told me not to worry about a bad mammogram. Turned out to be cancer....I went to Providence for biopsy, but decided to go to KU because every thing I would need done was all by one office. Providence could not offer that. At KU they did a double mastectomy and in 23 1/2 hours I was sent home. OMG. I wasn't even awake. What kind of hospital does something like that. KU can beat it's chest and say it's the best. I think every hospital has to constantly keep a check on its self.

THEY LITERALLY TRIED TO KILL ME! While I was unable to speak due to pain, they ignored my allergies list and almost put something I was deathly allergic to in my IV. I had to literally throw the nurse call light to get their attention before they killed me. When I said I was allergic, the "charge nurse" said, "oh, well, we figured you just didn't handle it well, some people say they have allergies when they really don't. The funny part was how the "charge nurse" was going on and on about how she's seen me before and she knows me. Apparently not enough to know she was about ten seconds away from knowingly killing me.

My family has always been very pleased with staff and services. Grandfather, Grandmother, Mother, Father, brother aunts uncle's great aunts great uncle's cousins and including myself have been in Providence Medical Center's care throughout decades. I have never heard from any family members that are or have been dissatisfied with ANY experience at any time at Providence Medical Center.

The weekend staff was great but come Monday they had an oriental nurse in cardiac try to tell my son what he could or couldn't control and then stand there and lie to me saying she didn't. They decided not to give him a script for the one thing that did help him. Right now I have no use for any of these hospitals

Awful place. Watch out for the heart surgeon...he is terrible. Mean to people, not a good doctor. Doesn't care if patients die. Do somewhere else! RUN from this place if you have a choice.

Do yourself a favor and drive a few miles further to KU Med. Then you won't have to deal with unprofessional nurses in the ER who have unacceptable and unnecessary poor attitudes with no respect for patients. And KU Med management would certainly reach back out to you if you had such a poor experience. The Director of Nursing was promised to contact me regarding the pathetic actions of the nursing staff that myself and loved ones had to deal with one night when we went to the hospital for care. Who goes to the hospital to be aggressively assaulted by the staff who you have to call out for not doing the job even remotely close to the care level they took the oath to provide. Then your loved one is left in that poor resonance of a nurse's care after you are the one escorted out! She should have been fired on the spot. No one deserves to be treated as we were during our visit. This is just one other example of how this hospital is failing in a paramount way! Perhaps a little sensitivity and accountability training would be in line.

I recently recieved a total knee replacement at Providence Medical Center. Everything about my stay was wonderful. The staff was very caring. I was very grateful and impressed with everyone's professionalism. They eased my fears and made me feel that they really cared which meant so much to me as a patient. The hospital is also very clean and the food was even very good. I would definitely recommend Providence Medical Center.

Had a bad and horrific experience delivering two of my sons here. Employees are absolutely horrible and the doctor treated me (his patient) as a joke. A Jayhawks basketball game was more important than staying to deliver my child. When my son was ready to be born (his head was poking out!) nurses told me to “hold him in and to not push” because the on-call doctor was not there yet. On a separate occasion, a female nurse insisted I push my newborns son face into my breast to feed him (basically smothering him) and said “he’ll find some way to breathe.” Granted I didn’t listen but the nurse would express frustration when she realized I wasn’t doing as she “instructed.” NEVER came back to this hospital since then. DO NOT COME HERE!!

Brent Smith

WORST HOSPITAL EVER. CAN'T EVEN HANDLE SIMPLE BILLING ISSUES. IF YOU CAN'T HANDLE THAT I WOULDN'T TRUST THEM WITH MY HEALTH. STAY FAR FAR AWAY FROM PROVIDENCE. I'D GIVE NO STARS IF IT WAS ALLOWED

I have had excellent care at Providence. I have been to the ER, had surgeries, and in-patient stays, as well as rehab and visits with the 'Doctors in the Towers' :) I have felt safe and comfortable with the staff (CNA's, RN's, MD's, RT's, Lab, dietary and housekeeping, and volunteers and the Priest!), and each and every one has shown interest in me and my fast recovery!

Rebecca Stevenson

My father had what is called a catastrophic event, which is, unfortunately, not something someone can recover from. He was taken by ambulance to Providence and received excellent care for the 2 days he was able to live. Everyone, from the ER staff, security, ICU nurses and doctors, were extremely respectful and caring. My dad was made totally comfortable and passed peacefully. It was a sad time, but they made it as “good” as they could for us.

Jenna Lukas

I gave birth to my baby girl here years ago. Had a terrible experience here after giving birth. I was okay at first but when the lady doctor or whatever she was stuck her whole hand into my fanny everything went wrong I started shivering and loosing alot of blood. So after all that happened I guess I died at one point and came back to life. Thank God for that. But just recently I went in for a stomach ache it was excruciating so I thought it was serious. So I went in and lady asked if I have ever been there before and I said yes. She asked my name and I gave it to her and she said that I wasn't in the system. I thought that was kinda strange but then I remembered I have never gotten a bill from them after giving birth. I thought to myself they must've messed up and that's really frustrating cause I want alot of kids and I can't have kids without a uterus. Seeing everyone I know having 2 3 4 5 6 kids is nice and I'm proud of them but it would be nice to have more than one child.

Mary Ferro

Terrible, terrible, terrible.. waited for over an hour to be misdiagnosed.. and given the wrong medication.. DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!!!!!

Meghan Stoeckl

DO NOT! I REPEAT DO NOT, make the mistake of going to this hospital. My husband went here and they took labs and samples and never sent us the result. Then they charged us and when I asked for a financial assistance letter (other hospitals will mail these out) they lady on the phone rudely says "you can come up here and get one" and we ended up having to pay a debt collector money. It was a waste of money because the doctors and nurses at this hospital did not put my husband in better health in any way. The nurse taking my husband IV also did it so poorly that blood sprayed everywhere.

amber Bullock

Everyone there was professional and nice. I had a bad reaction to medicine that was given to me in the ambulance and the nurse was there for me to calm.me.down and gave me medicine to counteract it. They also made sure i knew the name of it so i can put it in my file and not end up taking it again. I stayed overnight. They made sure I knew what was going on while waiting to get an MRI and be released and made sure I knew how to order my food if i didnt like the menu and often checked on me. All my questions were answered and the staff was very knowledgeable. Very friendly and respectful staff as well from the CNAS all the way to the Doctors! Im definitely going here anytime the VA sends me to an outside facility! Thank you all!

Katherine Gillespie

I had my daughter at the hospital in 2015 and it was a really good experience. I receive my obgyn care, and my child's dental care at the doctors building. It's a little confusing to figure your way around at first but all the staff I've encountered at both offices have been polite and helpful.
