Dr. Voelkel is one of the most caring doctors I have ever met. She always remembers me (or takes good notes) and is very thorough!

Positives: Knowledgeable Negatives: Mediocre bedside manor Every single visit it feels like she is in the biggest rush of her life. Though I trust that she knows a lot, she rarely takes the time to share her knowledge with me. At 37 weeks, I found out my baby was breech. She came in, confirmed the news, then spent under a minute telling me what this means for delivery and my options from here on out. Voelkel ended the visit recommending the ECV procedure but said it came with risks (which she failed to explain). She ended with, “so what do you think? I think you should do it.” Hmm. I replied with, “Ok well I’m still not sure what to think about it. Do you have anything I can read on the procedure?” After asking around, she had nothing to give me. I spent the next few days so incredibly anxious and in tears all day long because I felt like I had to make this decision quickly and yet had no more info after my visit than when I started. Yes, I am extremely disappointed in this situation specially but I have felt unworthy of her time for a while now - this just seemed to confirm it.

In 2015 I was put in bed rest because my twin girls we’re trying to come too early and she was my doctor during that time frame. She did not deliver but she helped immensely during the process. I can see how her confidence can be perceived as bad bed side manor as stated in a previous review but I would trust her regardless. Doctors are there to help you but they are the professionals and they don’t have to coddle you every step of the way and they sometimes need to be bossy because let’s be honest EVERYTHING sounds frightening at that time and a confident doctor is helpful. I feel her approach led me to the healthy little girls I have today.
