Excellent medical practice - well run, and Dr. Wu is outstanding !!

Staff is very professional and I have never had to "wait" in the waiting room very long. Quick and easy checkout! Staff is friendly and Dr. L takes his time with you and is very thorough. I would highly recommend this office!

Randy Rusch

Office visits to Rheumatology & Assoc are always pleasant. I am generally in the prep room (weight, blood pressure and updates) withing 5 minutes of the appointment time. The doctor is never more than 10 minutes after the nurse. Dr L is very thorough, asking a lot of questions, and also listening to my inputs. Very caring and personable, thoroughly professional and a Great doctor. The office experience is prompt and efficient.

I honestly do not feel that my first visit with Dr. Brenner even deserves 1 star. Even though I had already told her assistant when booking the appt. that I had seen a Rheumatologist 18 months previously, but that my symptoms had gotten much worse since then; without even talking to me or examining me, she insisted on reiterating my previous diagnosis of osteoporosis- and immediately telling me that she didn’t treat it!!! My Rheumatologist had retired, so it wasn’t like I was even looking for a 2nd opinion! In my 54 years, I have never had a Dr. be so impersonal and make me feel disregarded! At one point, she even rolled her eyes at me while trying to tell my history, and remarked that thanks to the Internet, everyone thought they had RA!!! I did not want to be dx’d with RA, but did want her to listen to me! And this mistreatment cost me over $350 with insurance!!!!!! Whatever you do, don’t go to Dr. Brenner expecting a warm and understanding Specialist!!!!!!

The staff was very nice and helpful. This was my first experience seeing a rheumatologist. Dr. Brenner took time to answer all of my questions. She was considerate and actually listened to me.

I have had excellent experiences here all around. The receptionists and phone people are friendly and helpful; lab visits are prompt, quickly done, with pleasant techs. More importantly, my doctor (Wu) and the infusion people are wonderful. They answer questions and are attentive to my needs. Wait times are short.

I have been coming to this office for 16 years. When I come in I am welcomed by my name. There is no other drs office I use that does that. She has so many people come in that office I’m impressed she remembers. The staff is very friendly. I see Dr Wu. I never feel rushed, Or that he isn’t really focused on me. He answers my questions in a way I understand. It makes me feel like I am his only patient(which I know I’m not haha). In this office I feel cared about, I am treated with dignity and honesty. I will remain a patient here for many many years. Kay S.

Dr Smith is just fantastic. He understands my desire to avoid medication unless absolutely necessary, and even suggests dietary changes and supplements that I may find helpful for my condition. He is very thorough in going over all my blood work, tests, and hospitalizations at each visit and I really feel like he understands my specific autoimmune disorder. He is never rushed and answers all my questions. 10 out of 10 , he's the guy you want looking out for you.

Arlene Haskin

Dr. Wu and his nurse, Maddy, were both friendly, courteous and concerned. They both made me feel very comfortable. Dr. Wu also made me feel that he was interested in trying to help me find the cause and remedy for my conditions. The front office staff was also very friendly.

The doctor spent very little time with me during the examination. I was told the degeneration in my spine was due to one of two things. Either I injured it and do not remember having done so or I am just unlucky. The degeneration in my other joints (hands, feet, knees) was not examined thoroughly. I was told it is a rheumatologists job to tell me what I don't have, not what I do. I was prepared by my family practitioner for what to expect at my first appointment with a rheumatologist. This wasn't at all what I expected. I've requested a referral to a new doctor.

MIchael Caudill

My wife has lupus so we were forced onto marketplace insurance. These doctors are all too good to take marketplace insurance. They care more about making money than helping people.

Last time I had an appointment it was cancelled. I said I needed a pain shot for my arthritis in my hand. The earliest was 2 months so I said to heck with it and went to my GP who got me in the next morning. Been going back to GP for shots ever since. Just called (Jan 3) to make an appointment at 230 pm and the office is.............. wait for it.......... closed. I'm thinking of finding a new arthritis doctor... Called again on Thur 430 since their website said open until 630. Nope their message says closed at 4pm. Impossible to get in to see them

My new patient interview, exam and diagnostics with Rheumatology Associates were professional, skilled and pleasant. Beginning and ending with the welcome at reception, the wait time, the nursing staff, lab and ultrasound technicians. Dr. Brenner exhibited a good natured attitude. I recognized she had done her homework concerning documentation from prior care providers and the information asked of me prior for this initial visit and exam. Her communication is attuned to a conversational manner; we spoke with each other, we listened. We have a plan for improving my health. I'm confident in her ability to provide me with the best of care available. I felt then and remain now with a mindset Rheumatology Associates have accepted me as a patient and I'm a part of a great team. I can't thank them enough.

Top notch academically yet still approaching care from a personal and common sense perspective.

Darlene Ball

If you remember how a physicians practice use to treat their patients, but is no longer a your "doctors" practice, but the medical/insurance practice, then you will be happy to be a patient in this group of real doctors, with helpful/pleasant staffs and who do care about YOU...

Dan Buckley

Highly recommended. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable, Doctors are thorough and professional. Have been coming here for about twenty years, and have always been happy with my visits and the care I have received.

I have had cause to go to this practice three different times. Each time, I felt like they were pushing me out the door, telling me why I really don’t need to be their patient, and not taking my symptoms seriously. I would not recommend this practice.

Dr. Smith and his nurse, Kelly, are amazing! They are both very kind, compassionate, and actually listen to what you have to say. They always ask how you are doing, ask if you have questions, and provide feedback in terms that are easily understood. They make you feel that they care a great deal about their patients; and I truly believe that they do. The appointments are never rushed, and Dr. Smith spends as much time as needed with you. He understands that every patient is different, and may not respond to the same treatments. He is always willing to discuss new treatment options, if you (or he) feels that the one you’re on isn’t producing sufficient results. Overall, I could not be happier with Dr. Smith, Kelly, and the staff at Rheumatology Associates PC!

I’ve never had a bad experience here. Dr. Wu and Maddie are professional, courteous and kind. Auto Immune disease is tough but Dr. Wu is patient and takes his time to listen to me. He has helped me tremendously which has allowed me to live a better life. The rest of the staff are just professional and knowledgeable in what they do. I recommend this office for anyone needing auto immune diagnosis and treatment.❤️

I recently met with Peggy (Nurse Practitioner) at Rheumatology Associates PC due to worsening arthritis pain. She took a lot of time to listen and review my symptoms, recommended blood work, and follow-up x-rays to be compared to my baseline films. She also prescribed medication based on the change in my symptoms, and advised I keep my appointment in four weeks with Dr. Douglas Smith. I really appreciated the time she afforded me and highly recommend the care team at the practice. Everyone is very friendly and helpful.

Elaine Coffey

Rheumatology Associates...Dr Lautzenheiser has been my doctor for the last 20+ years. I have been very satisfied with his service and I also recommended my mom who suffered from scleroderma to him,so she to was a patient very satisfied with him before she passed away. Dr.L is very patient with you he goes over the problems you suffer with asking you questions about how you feel going over all your medicaion that you take and so much more. You could say his bed side manners were good. Letting you know how your doing over all. I would also recommend anyone else in the family and friends that needed a rheumatologist to Dr. Lautzenheiser. The years that I’ve been going there some of the staff have gone and new ones have came in, which I miss the old one but new ones come in and you like them to. So the staff also good at there job and very friendly at Rheumatology Associates.*****

Maegilthalion Estel

Reasonable and decent care for a very difficult auto-immune disorder. I have been a patient through 3 doctors (Condit, Staley, and now Wu). Dr. Wu is the first doc to start trying to figure out my underlying condition. Unfortunately, my body and labs won't give him much to go on. This condition is stressful at times, feeling your body eating away at joints is no fun. Dr. Wu does a very good job of dealing with me, my stress, and helping me combat a bad situation. I may not always be a good patient, but I feel this doc is doing everything within reason to help me.

Dr. Smith is probably one of the best doctors I had ever visited. He spent the first 10-15mins getting to know me and understand why I had come to him. He was very personable and professional. He took his time explaining his diagnosis and did in in terms anyone can understand. I never felt rushed. It was one of the best experience of a doctor-patient visit. I wish I could use him as my general practioner.

Roger Conrad

The staff is always prompt and friendly. Dr. Wu is very thorough and gives his undivided attention. Couldn't be happier with the care I receive.

I have been seeing Laurie Dawley, NP for several years. She was the first to diagnose my Rheumatoid Arthritis after several years of suffering. She has continued to prescribe a variety of medicines to treat symptoms and slow the disease. No two patients are alike and everybody responds differently to meds. The staff has been extremely helpful when I call and have helped me secure a grant to help pay for medicine. Thankful for all their help in fighting this disease.

Paula Meadows

Quality Matters

Complete waste of time. Disappointing. And unbelievable experience. This office is continuously undergoing changes. This starts because most of the Doctors are ready to retire (some are retired on the job). New Docs equals new rules. I've been going here for a decade. Last week was the straw that broke the camels back. I ventured to their office for my six month checkup (generally a chit-chat session with little Doctoring occurring) through a downpour. Despite having my insurance card and ID with me, I was not allowed to see the Dr without 'proof of payment of my insurance'. Oh sure, I carry those with me everywhere I go. I offered that I have been a customer for more than 10 years with a history of paying my bills. They said I could request my bank to fax it. ( a fax is proof of the level of technology deployed here). Right. I offered they could take a chance that I would pay my bill as I always have or I could leave. They said 'see ya next time'. No next time at this place for me. Let me mention how difficult it is to get a refill RX at this office too. That is because it is nearly impossible to reach a human. Sorry Doc's but I am going to a new office (preferably a cleaner one that your constantly under repair location). If you have a choice, go somewhere else.

I have been seeing Dr. Smith since late 80's He is a Amazing physician. He has kept me from being in terrible pain whenever I have a really bad flares he has gotten me in when they didn't have openings. I have several diagnosis of arthritis and autoimmune disease. He is A Kind Caring physician. His Nurse Kelly is a Awesome nurse. She calls you back and then follows back after she finds out from Dr. Smith. I would recommended him highly to everyone who is looking for a physician. I have had multiple problems with my diseases throughout my year's of seeing him and each time I call in the staff are all caring they find out what you need say they will send a message while they have you on the phone. The girls ar the front desk know you by name ask how you are doing everytime you have a appointment. The time you wait to get back to see the physician is never longer than 10 minutes. The time you are in the room is less than that. I would recommend Rheumatology Associates and especially Dr. Smith flor any type of diagnosis you have. He has such Amazing knowledge of all arthritis diagnosis and the best treatment for each of them. Once again if you need a physician for any arthritis diagnosis please call and make a appointment or ask your physician to refer you to see him you won't be disappointed. From the time you walk in to the time you leave every staff members are all there to make your time there doing anything they can for you. I come in weekly for a shot and every couple months to see Dr. Smith since the late 80's so i know how the staff at Rheumatology Associates are. Everytime it's always the best caring kind people out of all the physicians I have seen throughout my many years of having multiple diagnosis Dr. Smith and Kelly are the best team ever. And all of the other employees as well.

I've been to 3 appointments there in the past 6 mo and it was a waste of time. At the last visit, the Dr wanted to recommend medications I'd used before to no good effect. We went through a conversation of "I'll prescribe X" and me responding "I can't take X due to severe side effects" for a few meds until I asked if he'd reviewed my prior treatment history. He explained he didn't have prescription info, just medical records. I had provided all necessary info for them to get all records but they didn't make sure they had complete records. And I could have sent in what they'd needed if they'd asked. When I first started as a patient, they assigned me Dr Condit and at my 2nd visit he said he was retiring. Why assign someone a retiring doctor for a condition that requires continuity of care? At the first visit the office manager insisted they must have my SSN to process my health insurance though I didn't want to give it due to identity theft concerns. I checked later with my insurance and they confirmed the Dr's ofc didn't need SSN to process a claim. I will say that the staff is efficient and the blood draws were gently and as pain free as those can be.

My mom has been seeing a doctor here for some time now and let me just say these people are dirty! The doctor cares more about his finances and sticks his nose up at those who need to pay payments. The woman naked carrol who works here does nothing but belittle the patients and make them feel unwelcome and uncomfortable! These people are awful! I would not have even rated them 1 star if that wasn't the lowest I could go!

Changing my review has I had initially left 3 star review. I thought the Rheumatology Associates had dropped the ball , but I now believe it was my own doctors referral staff who failed to send in the referral. As soon as I got involved and verified the fax , the Rheumatology Associates recieved it. The people at the Rheumatology was able to expedite an appointment and deserve recognition for accommodating me given the delays I have had in the referral process.

Dr. Brenner is very caring and helps you find the right solutions. She takes her time to understand what is going on and your concerns. She is genuinely concerned about her patients well being. I am so glad that I found this practice and was set up with Dr. Brenner. It is very convenient that the infusion center is at the practice. Everything gets taken care under one roof. It makes dealing with insurance easier.

Janet Southern

Dr. Smith has a very skilled and informed grasp of his profession; and is to be commended for his manner and listening skills. He is attentive to details. He is an excellent diagnostician; competent, caring, and concise. His staff is equally skilled. Sincerity, and courtesy are demonstrated by a manner that makes a patient feel welcome and cared about. My experience with Dr. Smith's practice has been a very good one. I would highly recommend him to anyone considering his services. Sincerely, Steven Southern

I have been a patient of Dr. Douglas Smith of Rheumatology Associates in Indianapolis, IN for around ten years, more or less. My experience with the medical group has been very favorable, from the beginning up to the present time. Dr. Smith devotes enough time to you during the office visit for you to feel that he has an accurate idea of your concerns as they develop over time. I never feel "cheated" as some people complain about as they visit various doctors and don't have any time to ask questions. The staff at the front desk is very friendly, and making appointments presents no problems. All and all, I am very pleased with Rheumatology Associates.

I had the pleasure of my first visit to Rheumatology Associates on March 13, 2019 and found everyone from the front desk to medical asst. and the physician, Dr. Christopher Wu to be outstanding. I would recommend this office and Dr. Wu to anyone having issues such as mine - I was given plenty of time for answers to my questions of understanding my disease and felt comfortable knowing I am now in good hands for handling Prednisone to treat Polymyalgia Rheumatica. I look forward to treating this disease with Dr. Wu's expert assistance and hopefully shortening the life of time I need much medication.

Audra Jones

First appt with NP was fine. Seemed thorough and engaged. Next Appt 6 weeks later I wanted to address the pain I was in due to my disease. She prescribed a non-narcotic anti-depressant. Three weeks later I was in the hospital due to a suicide attempt. Medication along with depression due to the disease determined to be a factor. Once released and off the meds, went back to her and tearfully told her how much the symptoms of this disease affect my life. How the pain is unmanageable, my life was a wreck and I was tired of feeling sick all the time. I was told it is illegal for her to manage my pain with anything that isn’t non-narcotic (which is a flat out lie) and I had tried about 10 non-narcotics over the previous two years and nothing worked. So I was sent to a pain management doc in October. I was scared. Heard horror stories. Went anyway. Paid my $60 copay for him to tell me that he doesn’t treat “people like me.” I broke down in tears. He wanted me to try SUBOXONE (yes, a drug with a longer half-life also used to treat heroin addiction) patches. But wait – I couldn’t even start it that day, has to be pre-approved by insurance. I agreed and left still in severe pain. Three weeks later got a call that the insurance wouldn’t approve it so they wanted me to start all the way over with the non-narcotics I had already tried and I refused. I had already tried them and they didn’t work. I emailed Rheumatology Associates immediately and let them know to quit sending patients there (at least patients like me, young and in severe pain but doesn’t look “sick”). October 2017 – follow up appt cancelled because we were waiting on insurance approval to start infusion drug (very expensive) November 2017 – received approval letter from insurance company (week before Turkey day actually). Decided to wait a few weeks to let the practice catch up. A month later, still no phone call to schedule my appointment December 2017 – called and emailed. Let them know my insurance provider was changing in January and would like to start the infusion to make approval easier. No response on either medium. January 2017 – rep from the practice called wanting to get my new insurance info to BILL FOR THE INFUSIONS I WASN’T GETTING!! I let her know everything previous and “oh my gosh, I’m going to look into this and get back to you.” Never heard back. February 2017—received letter from practice stating I had to pay $150 dollars left on my bill or be fired as a patient in two weeks. I ignored it, waiting for a response to any of the emails/phone calls I had made in the last four months. Got none Today, March 22 – bill collector from the practice called wanting her $$. I went off and reexplained everything. She said manager would call back, which did. Manager basically said I was lying because she only saw one phone call and one email. The phone call was when I passed out at work and they told me I shouldn’t call them, only call my primary doctor. And the one email was my complaint about the pain mgmt. specialist. She wanted her money but didn’t want to lose me as a patient but really offered no explanation as to why I fell through the cracks for six months. My care was not priority here. I was not treated like a human, let alone a patient with a serious disease. I now have to start over trying to find a new physician to treat me. Not to mention I never actually got to see a doctor, just an NP and was charged just the same anyway. Now I’m out of the prescriptions given to me 7 months ago, the last appointment that was given to me. Disease is definitely out of remission and I’m back where I started. Would not recommend this practice at all. No one should be treated like a drug seeker, a liar, or less than human.
