Great doctor with a very convenient location downtown. Office space is top notch and amazingly clean.

You're treated as valued person, not just a number. Also, I've never met a dermatologist that was so down to earth without sugar coating the situation. He's a great guy who never rushed me out of the office and always made sure to listen to and address all of my concerns. I'm not mentioning his name because he's leaving the practice. He'll be missed! :(

I am an outdoor endurance athlete and artificial intelligence engineer. I also have very fair skin. I saw Dr James Ida and I can tell you he is one of the best dermatologists I’ve seen hands down. I have no affiliation with him or this practice and picked him based off my insurance and his credentials. He was very thorough, knowledgeable, patient and went out of his way to be comforting and to make sure I understood all the issues they found. He followed up with me time and time again and surpassed expectation. My parents are both medical doctors and I have seen many specialist for many different issues over the years. I highly recommend Dr Ida to anyone.

Dr. Patel is both thorough and knowledgeable in all aspects of skin issues and care. She took a lot of time with me to address my concerns and her office staff has always been very kind and inviting. Appointments are timely, easy to make and convenient to get to in a building where there is parking. This is so helpful to me as I am a busy working mom who needs to be with a physician that is accommodating and accessible. I would highly recommend her!

Dr. Patel provides excellent care and is friendly and caring. I've recommended her to friends and family. Those who have gone loved her too.

The doctor is nice enough but their office hustles you if you're not paying attention or not well informed. I was prescribed an expensive brand name version of minocycline and told I had to call around for the best price and then use a coupon the doctor provided to get it. I called the assistant out on the fact that there are much cheaper generics of minocycline and I wouldn't have to jump through hoops to get them. She told me She'd ask but they won't work and my skin won't improve (the FDA has proven NO difference in efficacy between brand and generic). After forcing the assistant to talk to Dr. Patel, I was immediately switched to doxycycline, which is about 6 times cheaper and equally effective. I was then prescribed Retin-A and told I can only buy it from their office - wrong. Tretinoin cream can be purchased with prescription at any pharmacy but the doctor refused to write a prescription to take to my pharmacy. I was then put on 2 other drugs and told I had to get them call to get them through 2 different, no-name pharmacies in the Chicago area. I understand the margins are narrow in a dermatology practice but this doctor/practice is DEFINITELY getting kickbacks somewhere down the line from these pharmacies and/or telling patients they have to use the coupon provided to purchase ridiculously expensive brand name drugs when the doctor knows full well there's a generic available.

I had a great experience with Dr. Patel! It was my first annual skin exam, and she made me feel beyond comfortable about it. Not only was she thorough, but she also had a great bed side manner walking me through the process. Would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Patel and her staff!

I had the worst expirence at D&A. I had a few concerns I wanted to address although they told me I could only discuss one. I understood and preceded to talk about my face acne the doctor took exactly 3 minutes to address it and ran out of the room. Not allowing me to even express my questions or concerns. I expressed my dissatisfaction with the assistant and she was extreamly rude. I told her I was unhappy and I atleast expected 15 minutes of the doctors time she stated he’s already with another patient and we can address my concerns on my following appointment. My appointment was at 1 and he was with another patient at 1:03 . I’m not going to pay a 50 co pay and anything else they bill me for 3 min of the drs time. I expressed my concerns with the front desk she was nice and offered to try getting the dr back although after I stated what the assistant said she looked taken back and apologized. Overall extreamly unhappy with this rushed service the staff doesn’t care about the patients they care about seeing as many they can in one day.

Strongly do not recommend 1) During the appointment the doctor, a dermatologist, asked my wife if she had been to a gynecologist recently and if she wanted him to “take a look”. She has been to other dermatologists and this has never happened. We have discussed this encounter with several other practitioners, all of whom said that seemed very unorthodox. 2) Upon notifying the office manager of this issue, she was unhelpful. The front desk offered poor customer service as well. 3) The procedures performed were not done effectively, as he had to take multiple passes, which increases scarring. He used a scalpel, which leads to more scarring than more precise and effective techniques, such as a punch biopsy or shaving. 4) The charges seem exhorbitant, as described in other reviews, and did not include any follow-up services for the spots that were not fully removed. Additionally, he insisted upon removing 3 spots, all of which had recently been viewed by another doctor who said they did not need to be removed. Upon excision, all biopsy results were negative.

Dr. Patel is so caring, thoughtful and knowledgeable. She is very gentle also, which I appreciate. I have been seeing her for 7 years, with everything from sun spots and checking for melanomas, and cosmetic injections. She is a talent at cosmetic injections! Knew a lot more than my plastic surgeon! I would not even go somewhere else!

Probably could not be more disappointed in my experience here. I was with the doctor for all of ten minutes, and he (Dr. Ida) spent most of the time staring at me, waiting for me to volunteer information or talk. I listed off my concerns but he didn't look at my face up close, ask more than a couple follow-up questions, and after explaining one thing for a couple minutes I volunteered other information and he went 'oh, had I known that I wouldn't have even brought this up'. Why not ask first? What if I hadn't thought to bring it up? The most frustrating part of the whole experience was when we were talking about acne control. I said I had been on birth control for a couple years, but had gone off it. He said I should try birth control, because it helps most women. I understood that, but I was already on it for a couple years with no changes, so I asked him to clarify why I should go back on if it didn't work for me the first time. He didn't elaborate, just repeating 'well, it works for most women'. Fantastic, but if I just wanted general statements I could've stayed home and read an article or something. My hope was that by going in an seeing a specialist, they could give me recommendations that would be suited to me specifically, as I hadn't had the greatest success trying to build my own. I didn't get that, and just was frustrated by the whole process. Would not recommend. I will be looking for another dermatologist.

The way this doctor charges should be illegal! I was charged over $400 because I had a "cosmetic" question which the esthetician spent about 1 minute answering. $400 for 1 minute of your time??
