REVIEWS OF Dawson Dermatology IN Hawaii

I was scared to have something on my chest checked out. I searched the internet for a dermatologist and read rave reviews, so I emailed....hesitantly....with some questions. To my surprise, I received a prompt answer via both email and phone. In just a couple of days, I was sitting nervously in Dr. Dawson's office where I was greeted by genuinely friendly staff. Just a very short wait and I met Dr. Dawson. He was professional, but also instantly warm, completely approachable....instantly calming. He did an exam and a procedure right there (instead of making me come back for another appointment). He was honest and genuine, answered all of my questions, calmed my fears, did the procedure, and as he was leaving the room said, "It was a pleasure to meet you." What doctor has ever said that? And he meant it. A very humble, genuine, professional, human being with an awesome staff as well. I wish he could be my GP. Don't hesitate or search any longer. Dr. Dawson is wonderful.

This review only pertains to Dr. Chun and not the other providers in the practice. For the last two weeks I have had an intermittent itchy rash all over my body. There was nothing obvious like a new detergent or seasonal allergies that could be the cause. Dr. Chun came into the examine room looked at a few pictures of the rash I had taken and proceeded to tell me to take claritan and that who cares if it is an allergy, what am I going to do move to a planet that doesn't have pollen? He said this type of rash could possibly be caused from an infection, but didn't bother to ask me if i have been sick lately. He also told me about a "very very strong steroid cream" he could prescribe but not to touch my armpits, groin, or face after applying it. I wasn't keen on the idea of applying what sounds like such a strong medication all over my entire body if it's not necessary. When I asked if he thought the steroid cream was necessary he responded by telling me "how am I supposed to know? Only one person will know if it's necessary and that's you." Although I am a nurse i don't have any dermatology training and if I thought I could diagnose myself and prescribe my own medications I wouldn't have bothered to schedule an appointment. When I asked him how long I should take claritan for and I admit my patience was now short, He responded by telling me i was frustrated because I'm itchy and didn't actually tell me how long I should take this medication. Not to mention I have an autoimmune thyroid condition that a lot of medications can aggravate. Had he looked at the new patient paperwork that I was asked to fill out he would have seen this as the paperwork specifically asks about thyroid disease. So no Dr. Chun I am not frustrated because I am itchy, I am frustrated by the terrible care I received by you. Working in the medical field and in private practice I am well aware of what the standard of patient care should be and the care I received is unacceptable. There are a lot of quality patient care initiatives being discussed these days. I suggest somebody show some of these studies and articles on the importance of quality patient care to Dr. Chun because clearly he is not up to date. Instead of behaving as a Dr. should and talking to me about my current skin condition and other things in my health that may have been going on he just continued to tell me I can see another dermatologist. As an adult who has never had seasonal or any other kind of allergy in my life I can not just shrug my shoulders and take a claritan daily and hope the rash goes away. I will be following Dr. Chun's repeated suggestion of seeing another doctor and I will not return to the practice. I can't wait to get the bill for my copay in the mail for having my concerns brushed off and the tremendously helpful advice of taking claritan.

Bad service at the clinic and the person handling billing is not professional either.
