’m so saddened, I really enjoyed dr chatterjee on my first visit two years ago and decided to stick with this practice. This time around I can’t say the same. After my yearly visit I left the office a bit upset. I was being asked my medical history by dr chatterjee, she asked about any mental illnesses so I shared with her I have anxiety/depression, I told her I see a therapist once a week. She then proceeds to tell me I should be on medication, I told her I enjoy therapy & will be sticking to that as my treatment. My therapist has told me I am fine to have my only treatment as therapy visits & the simplest way I can put what she said after that was that I’m a burden on my family/friends and am being unfair to my young daughter by not taking medication for my mental illness. That’s NOT a way to be helpful to someone suffering with mental illness. To add insult to injury I got my bill from the office and was charged for a “brief emotional/behavioral assessment” that I never asked her for. I was simply giving her my medical history, I never asked for her help & as I said I already see a licensed therapist & have been for over a year. It’s sad that people with mental illness can’t even be open about it without things like this happening. There’s already a stigma around mental illness and this is just one perfect example of that. This is the reason people don’t speak up about their mental health. I will definitely not be back.
