During my second pregnancy, he took incredible care of me and acknowledged research I had done on my own about VBAC (when I was dismissed - actually laughed at - by another OB in the practice after I asked her to look at the VBAC studies I had poured over)... I left that OB and Dr. Hempill took over my care half way into my pregnancy. I was so grateful for his expertise and professionalim in that very vulnerable period in my life four years ago. Dr. Hemphill is, quite simply, the best. Dr. Hemphill expertly guided me through my first pregnancy with genuine caring, professionalism, and warmth. He gave me all of the time I needed no matter how basic my questions or concerns were. He never rushes you and always listens. Even better, he explains complex medical issues in direct and understandable ways. I know how difficult it can be to navigate the healthcare system and try to find a doctor who truly understands you and that you feel comfortable with. When I moved to Connecticut from a different state I had no idea how I would find a provider until I kept hearing about this fantastic doctor. I thought there was no way I would get in since his reputation was so well known, but I am happy to say, they will always find a way. Further evidence of his reputation is that when I was pregnant, there were several incidences of people offering to refer me to their favorite doctor, and when I would tell them I already had the best, we would inevitably share the name of our favorite doctor, and every time it was Dr. Hemphill. That, in and of itself, spoke volumes. The staff at the offices are also fabulous and friendly and I highly recommend looking no further if you want the best doctor around just call Dr. Hemphill.

Michael is the most amazing doctors I have ever had. He was referred to me by one of my girlfriends when I had just gotten pregnant. I’m not going to go into the extremely long details but, my pregnancy was an extremely difficult one. He preformed a surgical procedure while I was pregnant due to a large cyst on my ovary. I was definitely scared but he did such an amazing job and everything ended up very well in the end. I also had to have a hysterectomy within the first year of having my daughter and again he did an outstanding job. He is not the type of doctor that rushes through your exam but instead cares about you. He is definitely a kind and gentle man, which is very important in this profession! I truly wish he was a primary care physician!!!

Let me start this review off by saying that every time i see a doctor, I try to be as considerate and low maintenance as possible. I called ahead to let them know I’d be a couple minutes late due to traffic, and I always make sure I am friendly and welcoming. Quite honestly, I did not have a good experience with Dr. Hemphill. I wasn’t fully comfortable with seeing a male ob/gyn for personal reasons, but was told he was a great doctor and will, without a doubt, treat me very well. He was the first male ob/gyn I took a chance on seeing because he was the only one available. He talked down to me as if I had no idea what I was talking about when describing my reasons for coming. I asked about certain exams and what they test for and he made me feel stupid for asking, as if I was just an inconvenience to him. I felt like he treated me like I was a child and was asking silly and stupid questions that weren’t worth his time. I felt that he was dismissive of my issues. Every time I see other ob/gyns at this location, they are empathetic, listen to all my concerns, and are super friendly. They take in consideration everything I am saying because it could be important to figuring out what is wrong. In comparison to all the other women ob/gyns at that location, it was shocking to me how dismissive, unconcerned, and non-empathetic he was. I felt like it was an unsafe space to discuss sensitive issues and I felt this all within the quick 5 minutes he spent with me. He didn’t ask for my name or anything, just got right to the issue and did what he had to and left. I felt dismissed and so uncared for, as if I wasted his time and shouldn’t have even come in the first place. I don’t want to sound dramatic, but I left the office upset and crying. As an ob/gyn, I feel as though the patient and doctor relationship is key. I hope this is a one-time scenario, but I wanted to leave a review so that others can know what to potentially expect, especially for those who may not want to see male ob/gyns for personal reasons.

Poor to Fair does not begin to describe how awful this doctor is- malpractice is surely in his future. In fact I could probably sue for malpractice but just don't think it is worth the long and nasty process our legal system considers justice since fortunately it was not a life threatening lack of care, effort, competence, and attention to detail in my situation. I suggest you don't see him or anyone else at this practice and if you do or have already done so get your medical records and check them for accuracy. My file was abhorrent. I could not believe the inaccurate and incorrect information he had recorded- although recalling my 2 visits I never did see him taking any notes, so it seems he just makes it up later from the best of his memory. In addition it is nearly impossible to leave a message or speak to anyone at this office and all of the staff is rude and inconsiderate and always running about an hour late. Some specifics to clarify the gross medical incompetence I experienced at this practice: I was going in for a colposcopy with biopsies and was told I could take ibuprofen in advance. I elected not to take any ibuprofen since I find it never helps me much- in my file it was recorded that I had taken ibuprofen prior to my colposcopy- NOT TRUE- I was not even asked about this during the procedure. 1 of the 3 exterior cervical biopsies (not the ecc) he took was lost- not sent to the lab, and not even recorded in my file. I saw another doctor promptly after seeing this information/lack of information in my file. The other doctor confirmed that the one clear biopsy site was at the 1:00 position of my cervix and that he could not say definitively about the other one or two locations- however in my file from Mr. Hemphill (since he does not deserve the title doctor) the only 2 locations recorded were at the 7:00 and 4:00 positions of my cervix. In addition, he made no notes about quarterizing the biopsy sites or the topical numbing medication applied to my cervix during the procedure. When I spoke to the doctor about my missing biopsy he admitted errors happen but would not say that he had definitively taken 3 exterior samples and the ecc- which I remembered quite clearly since I asked to look at each one and it was quite unpleasant when each sample was taken. To confirm that I could still see, feel, and count to 4 (unlike Mr. Hemphill) I had another doctor take a look and tell me if and where there was still any evidence of a biopsy. As I said above, the only very clear location was the 1:00 position- also the only position NOT recorded in my file by this disgrace of a doctor. This certainly supports my strong recollection of the torture he put my cervix through for those biopsies, which were not properly detailed in my record or handled with care. Don't put your health in the hands of this poor quality doctor since next time his carelessness might actually hurt someone having a more serious procedure.
