Dr. Shekmann replaced my right knee 2 and a half years ago. I have had no problems or pain issues at all. He will be doing my left knee next month and I am looking forward to being able to walk pain free as I go into retirement. I cannot speak highly enough of Dr. Mark Shekhman and I am very indebted to my primary care APRN for recommending him to me. I had been suffering for some time with severe hip pain which increased until I could no longer enjoy my daily walk or climb or descend stairs. I was unable to sleep and dreaded going to bed each night due to pain. I became very discouraged until I had my first consultation with Dr. Shekhman and we discussed my options. After physical therapy and an injection directly into my hip offered only temporary relief, Dr. Shekhman and I decided together that surgery was my next step. At this point I was more than ready and I was very grateful to Dr. Shekhman for exhausting all alternatives. I found his explanation of what the surgery would entail both comprehensive, clear and encouraging. As of today it has been only 22 days since my surgery and I am doing so well that I am amazed! I was able to walk without a cane after only 12 days, and after only two weeks I could drive my car. I now drive myself to physical therapy and I perform all of the exercises easily! I am experiencing daily progress well beyond my expectations. Dr. Shekhman discovered, during my surgery, an irregularity in the structure of my hip and he was able to correct this irregularity and complete the hip replacement with total success. I might add that I am 73 years old, not able to take opiates due to an allergy and I have come through this post surgery with only tylenol and an occasional non-opiate pain killer. I have yet to experience extreme pain! I attribute this to the surgical skill of Dr. Shekhman, his support and encouragement of my pre-op exercise regimen involving aqua therapy and his comprehensive follow-up after surgery. Dr. Shekhman is a highly skilled surgeon, but he is also a doctor with a reassuring, compassionate approach; he will answer all of your questions and you will leave his office knowing that you have made an excellent choice for your care. I found the perfect doctor and surgeon in Dr. Shekhman and I would recommend him to anyone who is suffering needlessly from joint pain. Thanks to Dr. Shekhman I look forward, once again, to an active lifestyle free from debilitating pain!
