I came to Dr. Schlegel with chronic shoulder pain from a prior surgery done elsewhere. I told him that I really wanted to avoid a second surgery. He worked collaboratively with me to put together a plan of care to relieve my pain without surgery. I am happy to say that I am now virtually pain free after a series of non-surgical treatments and physical therapy. I am very grateful for his expertise and willingness to work with me throughout the process.

After some initial fears, never having had major surgery before, everything about my experience with Dr Schlegel was excellent. I had a fall that resulted in a complete tear in my rotator cuff, and a SLAP tear. I was referred to Dr. Schelgel by Dr. Ray Kim, a personal friend with another group who specializes in hips and knees—so he made a personal call to Dr. Schlegel. Though Dr. Schlegel was out of town, he called me personally to talk about my MRI results. My initial consultation with another doctor with S-H left me a little nervous, so getting his second opinion was calming and crucial in my experience. I'm now six months after surgery and the contrast is amazing. My shoulder is back to full range of motion and gaining strength each week. Guided by Dr. Schlegel's meticulous instructions to my physical therapist, Ken Bush (a former S-H physical therapist now in private practice near me) I have an almost new shoulder. As a bonus, I also found the front desk folks and business office to be helpful and courteous each time I had dealings with them. I can't thank Dr. Schlegel, Nate, and his entire team too much!

If there was a way to leave zero stars I would. I was referred to this clinic for my chronic knee pain from being in the Marine Corps. I had to wait over 90 minutes past my appt time to see someone - which was a PA. He spent about 5 min with me and left for another 30 min. The Dr finally came in and said he reviewed my MRI and XRays that were a week old - didn't see any problems. However the Dr that referred me told me to go see this particular Dr to perform surgery. They stated they would call me within the next day or so. It is now 6 weeks later and I haven't received a call. BUT I definitely got a bill!!! Don't waste your time or your money with this practice.

My experience has been fabulous at Steadman Hawkins. The day after surgery on my rotator cuff the referred pain was gone. This was not an easy road but it helps to have a good team that listens and shows concern when dealing with my shoulder. Dr. Schlegel, Nate and Sarah U. (my pt) were outstanding. 6 months after surgery I am on the way to a stronger a shoulder. I am totally satisfied with the outcome and would come back if I ever had problems again. I was astounded by how efficient this practice was. I never waited more than one minute to see Dr. Noonan, to have my X-ray, to schedule my MRI or to schedule physical therapy. It was one stop shopping, all in the same office... and each staff member I encountered knew what they needed to do to help me on the road to recovery. Dr. Noonan took as much time with me as I needed to answer my questions. I will highly recommend this clinic to anyone in need of fabulous orthopedic care!

Came here with an acl tear and intense calf pain. Went to ER early in the week worried about blood clots. They did nothing. Went to get MRI reading and the doctor was so concerned about my continued calf pain. They got me in for an ultrasound that day and confirmed I had two blood clots. Scary but I'm so happy they listened and were attentive. I was glad to find doctors who took my pain seriously and wanted what was best instead of saying, "your too young for that". I am in PT for my ACL and will have surgery. I will always recommend doctor Schlegel and his team! They care!!!

I sought out Dr. Schlegel for a second opinion on a SLAP tear (shoulder injury). My injury put me out of work and I was seeking a doctoe who believed he could fix the problem and get me back to fighting fires quickly and without deficits in strength and range of motion. The experience has been extraordinary! To have a surgeon tell you that he would do everything possible to avoid surgery and help you explore other options is reassurance that you are in good hands. The staff makes me feel like I am the most important thing they have on the schedule every time I come in. It doesn't really matter how good the Docs are at this point, operationally the outfit is incompetent. There isn't anyone to talk to; your time is not valuable, you will get ripped off if you don't haggle with them. It's a mess over there. These guys are above the law. Good luck if you pick this team.

I have been trying unsuccessfully for three weeks to get my child in for physical therapy. I have called repeatedly, had the referral faxed by my doctor's office twice (because they would not accept an email), provided my insurance and other information multiple times and been told I would receive a call back. Apparently, they can't schedule an appointment without the FAXED referral. And I have been told multiple times that all faxes are input within 48 hours. This has not been the case. FINALLY, they conceded and at least booked an appointment without the referral because they can't find it on their end. But guess what? Can't get an appointment for another 3 weeks! I don't typically leave reviews but there wasn't any other way to reach someone who could actually assist me. And my multiple phone calls and chasing things down and repeating my address, insurance information and other information every time I call only to have it not input into the system has left me frustrated. My first phone call to set up the appointment was August 29th or 30th and our appointment isn't until October 11th.

Dr. Schlegel performed a revision reconstruction to my shoulder and had a very positive experience and recovery and Dr. Metzl has treated me for a broken bone also with a positive experience and recovery. There are seemingly long wait times at both offices but that is a small price to pay for excellent medical care. I would recommend SHC Denver to anyone.

Came to the clinic with a volleyball shoulder injury - Everyone is extremely professional and helpful. Sharon in Radiology went out of her way to help me find the best MRI location and even knew general pricing off the bat. The doctors were extremely knowledgeable and I was pleasantly surprised that they remembered me at a follow up even though I hadn't seen them in over 6 months.

It is difficult to schedule with the doctors. The staff do not seem to know a thing about customer service. While I understand this is a medical office, they could at the very least have some courtesy. The doctors were fine, but definitely not worth the hassle of trying to work with the office staff.

I went here a few years ago and I had a good experience so I went back again recently when my elbow started hurting for a few months. This time around I was charged almost $300 after insurance for a doctor to move my elbow around for a minute and recommend I take some Advil and do some PT with them (who knows how much that would have been). I would recommend looking elsewhere for your care.

Great doctors but ridiculously high billing. I saw a Dr for a broken arm 2 times and had to pay 700 with insurance. I was working in Richmond VA so saw a provider there 6 times and only owed 350. Never going back to any UCHealth run provider. I went to Stedman 15 years ago when they weren't in UCHealth and it was much better.

I had rotator cuff and bicep tendon release surgery in Sept '13. The pain after surgery seemed less than the pain I was experiencing pre-surgery. It's been four months since the surgery and the shoulder feels great. I had originally scheduled surgery with another doctor's office but switched to Steadman based upon a recommendation from a former patient. Grateful for the referral........I'll highly recommend Steadman.

I am new to Denver and recently suffered a fractured right fibula near the ankle. Being new to town I was not sure which Orthopedic Surgeon to visit and was nervous since this was my second broken ankle. However, I was referred to Dr. Metzl through a mutual friend and got an appointment the next day. From the moment I met the staff for my initial consultation I knew I made the right choice. The entire staff is extremely professional and gave me tons of confidence headed into my surgery. They told me the recovery time would be half the time as my first fracture which gave me some doubts but I trusted them the entire time. The surgery was scheduled only two days later. Everything went smoothly with Dr. Metzl and the anesthesiologist, Dr. Marohn, both displaying exceptional bedside manner during pre-op. Seven screws and a metal plate later, Dr. Metzl let me know the surgery went perfect, the ankle was fully stabilized and expected to fully heal within 4 - 6 weeks after which time I could begin physical therapy. Two weeks later I had my first post-op appointment. Dr. Metzl and Bryan again gave me great confidence on the recovery process. The x-rays confirmed that the surgery was a success with the bone already having healed 99%. I was now able to put 50% weight bearing while walking with crutches and work my way to full weight bearing in a walking boot. My last surgery took 3x as long to get to this point. My four week post-op meeting was today and I am now able to ditch the crutches and walk in the boot. In another week Dr. Metzl said I will be able to ditch the boot and start walking in a normal shoe again. I have nothing but great things to say and highly recommend Dr. Metzl, Bryan and the rest of their staff!

EXPENSIVE and nothing extraordinary to merit the cost. I came here to get a second opinion on my hip based on the reputation of CU and Steadman Hawkins. When I called to schedule the first appointment and explained my situation, they recommended one doctor. After meeting with the doctor for maybe 10 minutes, he recommended talking with a different doctor there. Separate appointment, separate bill of course. It’s unfortunate I couldn’t have been directed to the appropriate doctor the first time. I waited over 30 minutes for each appointment and then received the bill. OUCH! Three times the price of similar facilities that I got opinions from previously. No recourse available after calling the offices and billing departments. Therefore, my only option is to spread the word and discourage others from going here if money is of concern. FYI - the other facility I highly recommend for its expertise, professionalism and cost is Panorama Orthopedics.

I went to Dr Metzl for Ligament and Tendon repair on my ankle and I have never in my life had such a bad experience at a Dr's office before. Everyone was incredibly rude except for his PA Steven. You wait in the waiting room for an hour and then in the back for an hour every time. I had surgery and only saw my Dr twice! Before my surgery they were calling and calling and telling me they needed my full deductible before doing the surgery, which I found out was not true! After surgery getting in for a post OP was miserable because he only sees patients 2 days a week. They are the worst people to go to if you have a life and a job Getting my cast on, they charged $300 for a cast!!!. $100 for my crutches and $500 for my walking boot. Good thing for insurance, but of course they dont cover everything I swear they will take advantage of you and treat you like you are crap. If you can avoid it, AVOID THIS CLINIC

My experience thus far is very similar to Dan's experience except Steadman Hawkins could never make an appointment on time. On either the Surgeon side or the Therapy side I typically would wait anywhere from 15-45 minutes on average from the time of my appointment before receiving services. They do not care about your time once you are a patient, they are more focused getting payments as soon as you walk in for previous visits. I will be looking to another doctor for any future orthopedic needs. This is the worst customer service I have ever experienced.

What began with increasing shoulder stiffness a year before an intense forest fire that took our home, I tore my glenoid labrum during the evacuation. Dr. Schlegel was able to relieve my pain and restore full movement (with great PT support) while supporting my decision not to treat the tear. His advice and expertise were top notch, as well as a backdoor neighbor friendliness uncommon amongst those in his field, all combining to make a tough experience seamless.

My experience was lackluster. I was in and out before I could finish the paperwork. The doctor I saw was bored with my explanation of my chronic knee pain. He reminded me of a stripper who is dead behind the eyes, and had no passion for the job. Zero inclination to learn about my condition (when I feel the pain, what activities I do, when the pain is the worst etc.). He was annoyed when I tried to further explain the pain. I literally was not done answering the questionnaire about the problem (that the doctor didn't bother asking for or looking at) before my appointment was over. On the plus side, support staff was really nice, and I was in and out of there very quickly.

Today,I got a call from debt collector stating i owe some money for account:88866C. I have called you office 5 months ago to understand why you have stopped taking automatic payments from my credit card. Neither "UC health customer care" nor your office folks were able to find my account to accept the payment. One of the UC health customer care representative told me your office might have closed my account. So I also gave up. Your Office said there is no inhouse billing department anymore and anything I have to deal only with "UC health customer care". I have called today also and i have recieved same answer as above from both your office and UChealth. And there was no way for them to accept my payment. I know i owe you little amount(like couple of hundreds),I have been on payment plan since 2014 and paid roughly till now $3000+. Because of your inefficient transfer of billing to some third party company, I am spending my office time to figure out how to pay you guys and i am not getting any help from your office. Is there any simple way to solve this. Note: I could pay to the debt collector, But i want to make sure I am not getting scammed.

What a great place. Mr. Sakyrd addressed and fixed a shoulder issue that I have been painfully living with for about a year. I was originally being seen by another orthopedic medical practice that was unable to diagnose my shoulder issue after checking off the laundry list of a x-ray, cat scan, and MRI. I'm so happy that I made the decision to get a second opinion from the UC Health Clinic. Mr. Sakyrd took a great amount to time to listen about my shoulder issues and then explain my long lead medical options, all while alleviating my pain that my last medical provider was unable to do.

I've been coming here regularly for over 4 years now for various injuries and ailments to my shoulder, knees, feet, and hands. I'm a very active and adventurous person and maintaining this lifestyle is very important to me. The Drs. are great and really know their stuff. They are very good at diagnosing the problem(s) and providing the appropriate treatment plan to meet your specific needs. They are especially good with athletes and sports medicine, which is really important to me. Drs. Schlegel, Kummer, and Metzel are all top-knotch experts in my opinion. I've had injuries from mountain biking, snowboarding, hiking, trail running, etc. And every time they have me back out doing what I love as soon as possible. The office staff is professional and personable, and make you feel welcome. Whenever I come in it feels more like visiting my friends than going to a Drs. Apt. Everyone is friendly and says hi, and most people in the office know me by name. They can do X-rays and MRIs onsite, and have their physical and occupational therapy practice in the adjacent suite. They staff a ton of great physical/occupational therapists so getting scheduled isn't difficult. They also have an on-site specialist for braces, splints, slings, and orthodics, making it really convenient to get everything done at one location. Their surgery center is in the same building, and my recent operation was very smooth and a complete success...full recovery and no complications. There's not much I haven't been through at this clinic and feel confident I've put them to the test...in more ways than one. This review is based on a long track record of great service and demonstrable results. I live in Denver specifically for the outdoor sports, and UC health Steadman Hawkins keeps me out there and enjoying life...and that's priceless in my opinion.

I highly recommend Steadman-Hawkins, Dr. Schlegel and Beth Calder, PT. I tried Dr. Schlegel after a disappointing experience at another practice where I felt rushed and ignored. Dr. Schlegel listened to me, asked many questions and eventually diagnosed the source of my knee pain. A simple injection eliminated the pain and PT sessions with Beth gave me a change in exercise routine that I believe will be a long term solution to prevent a return of symptoms.

She was able to give me stretches and techniques on saving my back from further injury. She cared about helping me, and it was great while I was there. Excellent place. Seeing as how they treat a lot of pro athletes, this is a place to go to get back to an active Colorado lifestyle.

I have been a patient of Steadman Hawkins on two separate occasions. The first was for a shoulder injury in which I saw a doctor and his staff. The visit included being examined by the doctor, x-rays were done in the office, and I ended up receiving a cortisone injection the same day. I was pleased with the overall experience and my shoulder has been pain-free ever since. The second occasion was for PT after a spinal fusion. The girls at the front desk were always friendly, helpful, and available to answer questions about scheduling or insurance. The physical therapist was knowledgeable, listened to my concerns, and motivated me to push a little bit harder during each visit. After about 10 visits my range of motion was almost completely back to normal and my pain had been eliminated. I am constantly recommending Steadman Hawkins to people that have pain that may require surgery or PT. The staff is great, the services are exceptional, and each visit has exceeded my expectations.

About two years ago I was referred here for an Achilles tear and it went incredibly well. However, this was not the case this time. Back in November of 2017 I started having bad knee pain and thought I would go back. Terrible mistake. I scheduled an appointment only to be seen by the PA who saw me for about 5 minutes and decided to schedule an MRI. $700 dollars later finally received a call back and was told nothing is wrong with my knee. I still have incredible pain. Received another bill for over $200 to be seen by the PA which lasted 5 minutes. Called back several times as this is what the PA suggested I do if pain continues. Now 4 weeks later and still no call back. I'm not even sure if the surgeon ever looked at my MRI. Never going back. A grand total of $900 out of pocket to be told nothing is wrong with me. What a joke.

I had a recent rotator cuff tear, along with 30 years of pain after a ski accident, repaired by Dr. Noonan. The surgery and recovery went great and 2 years later I have had no issues. I like to have a doctor or clinic follow-up 6 months and a year afterward; it is one thing I would like to see them start doing. The clinic runs well, and is also timely. I didn't waste a lot of time sitting in the room waiting for the doctor or the PA.

I agree with Erika who did a review on Dr. Metzl recently. I have been a patient of the clinic and it is no where near the clinic it used to be. Dr. Steadman is no longer practicing. It is the first time I have walked out of the Dr's office and requested my copay back. I broke my foot and went in for a diagnosis and they said they could not access my xrays as the Dr. wasn't in - and I was initially told I would see Dr. Metzl. Then they indicated they would need to xray again.. why? Probably to make more $$$. This used to be the best Ortho clinic in the nation, but now... not so much

I have had a variety of orthopedic procedures throughout my adult life, and because of my insurance, I can choose any specialist and do not need a referral. With that in mind, I always do research, as to the best at whatever body part I need repaired. I did that this time, for an injured elbow. I found lots of data that Dr. Noonan was the best "elbow guy", so I made an appointment, and yesterday, just 30 days later, and after an MRI, and follow-up visit, I had Dr. Noonan scope my elbow. I just felt strongly compelled to join the long line of patients, who are basically mesmerized by the professionalism, and down-right friendliness, exhibited by "every" employee, and physician. It turns a threatening, nerve-wracking, troublesome procedure into a positive experience. If you need any orthopedic care, go to Steadman Hawkins. They are the best that I have seen, and I have been to some of the most high-profile clinics in the USA.

You will not find a better doctor than Dr. Metzel and his team, Steven & Brian. They all care deeply about their patients and do whatever they can to accommodate your needs. I live an hour and a half away and don’t mind the drive because of such exemplary care and treatment. I saw Dr. Metzel for a toe injury that ended up needing surgery to correct. He was patient and sought conservative methods before jumping to Surgery. They always worked with me coming from such a long distance to try and maximize our visits. I was very nervous for Surgery but it went extremely well (I had bunion Surgery that also realigned my metatarsal) with no complications! My pain is gone for the first time in 3 years. I won’t see anyone else for any issues with my feet. He is the best in the state.

Dr Metzl repaired my ankle 2 years ago and it is like a brand new ankle. I've been back to playing volleyball and doing yoga. I was in so much pain I couldn't walk for months before the surgery and I am pain-free since. The recovery for micro fracture is long and it takes dedication to PT to recover range of motion. It took a year of PT for me, but now the ankle feels just like the other. I also sent a family member to Dr Metzl JD she's also had a positive experience.

I received phenomenal care here a few years ago. Dr M did a wonderful job on my knee. I am now in another state and need to seek care and have been attempting to gain access to my medical records. They seem to be no where. I can never get an answer on the phone. I finally received a call back after many messages. They sent me an email with directions to request my records. I followed them and still have nothing. It is a shame that they had to partner with UCHeath! This is preventing me from seeking care and it is sad that I am resorting to writing a review on line to try and get a hold of my medical records.

Had the same procedure at CU and then at Steadman Hawkins after a friend told me how great it was. He was wrong. I don't doubt the talent of my surgeon, or the quality of the care I received during surgery - those were great. What I did not like was how this clinic is primarily focused on maximizing profits, not providing care. I was unnecessarily over-prescribed multiple narcotic painkillers that took a week or two to recover from on their own. I was forced to buy their compression socks, which cost 6x more than the next most expensive pair and aren't covered by insurance. I was also ordered to purchase multiple other unnecessary items because I was told my doctor was "incredibly conservative," which doubled my out of pocket expenses. The physical therapy was a joke. They are the fast food of physical therapy, pumping as many people in and out as they can fit in their doors while paying minimal attention to you. I've never wasted money as efficiently as when I paid for PT here. Do yourself a favor and avoid the name/reputation and go somewhere they care about you, not squeezing every penny they can out of you. If you have no choice, be leery of what you consent to before surgery and at least find yourself a decent physical therapist somewhere else.

Had a great experience with Dr. Noonan, and his PA Gary. Also had several PT sessions with Jenna, who was fantastic. Jenna took the time to give me individualized treatment. She went above and beyond to assess my post-op symptoms, and did an excellent job working with me on what exercises would help me the most. I would highly recommend her.
