I have been a patient at AFOC since 1999 when I broke my wrist. Since then, I have had rotator cuff surgery and total knee replacements in both knees, and recently, a severe thumb injury. I have had the utmost professional care from the doctors and all the staff. I recommend AFOC to all my friends or anyone that is looking for quality care. Thank you, AFOC!

Karen Helton

I had a total knee replacement done by Dr Sparks. I feel great. Hardly any pain. Couldn’t be happier!

Anchorage fracture has been super with my husband on the first shoulder injury 2 years ago, his Dr. at that time was Dr. Vaslieff super great man, fixed his shoulder. But, with second Shoulder injury everything has been a slow process, he was in so much pain I called to get a pain reliever for him it took three days for them to fill out a prescription for him. He had a MRI done one week a week later they still haven't read it, or called him for results. You call in the morning you might get a phone call back that same day or you may not, there lots of Doctors in this clinic, my husband just happened to get a slow one this time, and I can't even tell you who it is because the doctor has never seen him it has always been the PA that has talked to him. If I would have filled this out the first time they would have gotten a 5 star, but this time I would give them a 1 so that is why I gave them a 3. Good luck there are plenty of great doctors there, wish I could give you a doctors name to say no too, but I can't.

Joseph Shellhamer

Physical therapy... really? Done physical therapy before and still need a surgery for the SAME injury. Doctor didn't even talk for less than 2 minutes before he was out the door

Chelsea jasinski

Dr. Prevost and his assisting staff are amazing.

My husband and I both had great experiences with our knee surgeries. The visit surgery and aftercare have been great. Living on the Kenai Peninsula they worked with us to minimize our trips and reduce costs. I would highly recommend Anchorage Fracture and Orthopedic Clinic to anyone needing this kind of care. We especially like Dr Shumacher as he did both of our knee surgeries.

Dr. Thomas and his staff have been phenomenal with my 7 year old son. We came to AFOC for a second opinion and we are so thankful we did! Dr. Thomas was thorough and detailed in examining what was going on with my son's arm/elbow fracture. The staff is always friendly and helpful.

Karin Gillis

Dr. John Lapkass has treated my daughter for her hip surgeries and myself for reconstructive ankle surgery, I have nothing but praise for Dr. Lapkass and his entire staff. After having consulted with other doctors in Fairbanks and out of state, it was a breath of fresh air talking to Dr. Lapkass. He took it on himself to consult with other doctors after seeing and discussing our MRI's, and he called us in person with his opinion as to what their conclusion was. Thank You Anchorage Fracture & Orthopedic Clinic for being there - we appreciate your professionalism in all you do.

Great Staff, I've never been treated better!!!!

The team between my Doctor and his staff was second to none . I never stay but a few minutes before getting an answer from My Surgeon, I saw how busy he was and never expected such speedy answer , I think I work real hard at the recovery by myself as I had to travel a lot but my Doc through pictures and text guided me through. One thing we could have been done differently in my case is making me aware of the importance of the Physical Theraphy and In retro, I wish I had stay a couple weeks available in Anchorage as It was practically impossible to schedule me being so far with the winter road conditions , could not fly etc... not even mentioning that crazy 7 + earthquake in the middle of it Job well done Thank you again Michel

Tyler Cushman

Waited 50 minutes in the room alone and no doctor or PA came in so we just left. They acted surprised when we left.

Thomas Day

Surgeon was good and served my needs. The place is very busy. Avoid the physical therapy here, they will treat you like a cow. Receptionists were not very nice but they have to deal with broken people all day so go figure!

Donna Miles

The most caring facility i been to in years. Went out of the way to help me with my back issues. Came up with a new treatment to rebuild my bone not just treat the symptoms.

Doug Boyer

Dr. Kirkham is fantastic, and I appreciate him guiding me through every step trying to avoid surgery. He was up front and did tell me my injury would likely end up with disk replacement, but he was willing to support other measure to avoid it if possible. My main concern with this clinic is the excessive wait time trying to get through. I spend anywhere from 7-10 minutes on hold before anyone answers. It's extremely frustrating and concerning when you have questions for the surgeon following surgery. There really should be a way to email nursing staff to return calls as a second option to not getting thru the switchboard.

akvixen49 .

Dr. Thomas is amazing with my 4yr old son who is treated for bi-lateral clubfoot. We come up from Kenai, so they work with our days and times for easier traveling. The front desk ladies are short and rude and the 20mph wind from the broken air system in the front isn't great either and hasn't been addressed in the 2yrs we've been going to this office. However, we've never had a long wait and Dr.Thomas entire staff is amazing, friendly, and value us! I would do this drive over ever letting the local orthopedic doctors in Kenai touch my son!

I couldn’t be happy with the results of my knee replacement. I am healing quickly and the overall experience of the surgery was exceptional!

Literally the worst institute i have ever visited. Seems like they are money hungry, have zero customer service skills, and definitely seems like they don't talk to each other. please note down the time and the name of the person you spoke with as i guarantee you that whatever you guys have discussed will not be passed on. This place was a joke, will never go to that place again. I will also be placing a complaint with the BBB or the Health admin office (if there is such a place)

Paid $250 after insurance for a 10min consultation....

Dr Lapkass and his team are caring, concerned and move quickly to help solve your health problem and get you back to feeling better. He motivates you to doing and being well. He's kind and compassionate .

Josh Bannow

Everyone was very helpful at AFOC. Dr. Spencer truly cares about his patients. He is not going to push you into a surgery that is not going to be good for you. I have put a lot of trust in him and he came through. He is well respected by other surgeons. He explains things clearly and is willing to spend time talking with you.

Greg Zaporzan and Dr. McEvoy were wonderful to work with. My daughter had a sports injury that prohibited her from doing what she loved. I felt that they were just as concerned for my daughters recovery as I was, which meant a lot to our family. They didn’t rush us through the appointment- in fact- it took longer than anticipated because they were so thorough. They started with the least intrusive and cost effective approach first- then ruled out everything “major”, putting our mind at ease. Thank you for such great care!

Diane Belczyk

I Was a little skeptical at 1st when meeting Dr. Sparks. He put my mind at ease and was very patient and understanding of my concerns. His bedside manner was professional, understanding, and courteous. My 1st meeting with Dr. Sparks I left not only feeling welcomed but also like I wasn't just a number. I felt comfortable with my open rotator cuff surgery on 10/29/18 and was expecting to feel intense pain after that type of procedure. I had some ups and downs with recovery like expected and Dr. Sparks and staff were able to address my concerns. Dr. Sparks is an artist of Orthopedic care and the Dr. to go see for all your Ortho needs. If another mishap happens, I know Dr. Sparks is the right person to see! I also want to thank the whole staff of AFOC for the smiles and greeting when you walk into the clinic.

Robert Benton

I thoroughly reviewed EVERY appropriate physician in Alaska for a double knee replacement. Our family has been closely associated with healthcare in Alaska for a lifetime, both of us. FIVE different Doctors STRONGLY recommended "AFOC". ALL of those M.D.'s STRONGLY RECOMMENDED Dr. Ryan. HE and the ENTIRE STAFF: The BEST of the BEST!! Their Physical Therapy Staff: Complete a SUPERLATIVE experience!! Thank you, Robert L.Benton

I went their when I fell off a table and landed on my left hip and need a x-ray of my lower back and hip and they said they can't do that . Told me to go to the emergency room to get it look at . Then the hospital referred me to them but I said no and went to Dr lord and got me fixed right up .

Glorimar Irizarry

My visit began really well. I was personally escorted (6month old in tow) to my appointment by an ortho employee. This gentleman and the front desk employee were fantastic. Unfortunately, it took one bad apple to make me walk out of my appointment. I had been seen previously by a hand specialist and had X-rays made. That appointment was in Georgia, but I had the information needed for that clinic to easily fax over my docs. The young woman collecting my information before I was seen by the PA dismissed me by saying the PA wouldn’t want to see me. This appointment took me 2 months to schedule and I. Already. Had. Xrays...why in the world would I want to drop an extra $100 on something I already have? It was dismissive and unethical. I was disgusted with this woman’s apathetic response to anything I said. She was not interested in helping me at all. Again, this appointment took 2 months to make and it isn’t easy to tote my infant to appointments. I plan on going to the other better rated facilities for the remainder of my treatment.

Shirlee Kakaruk

I just called and tried to make an appointment, the person that answered the phone was rude and obnoxious, I feel bad for the doctors there they probably are loosing a lot of business because of the unprofessional staff members that are answering their phones...

This has been my best ortho experience I have ever had and the staff is absolutely fabulous. The environment is welcoming and very professional. This is a place I would love to work at and be a part of.

Dr Kenneth Thomas is absolutely AMAZING with my 5 year old son, he is so passionate answers all my questions and takes the time to explain everything. He interacts with my son, and always talks to him and never makes him feel scared or nervous about anything, he also talks to my 4 yr old and 8 yr old and makes them feel included in the visit. I highly recommend Dr Kenneth Thomas he is personable, knowledgeable and passionate with kids.

Give this clinic a 5 Star review. I was a walk-in and was treated fast, very professionally and had great service. Like their patient portal website where I can get a copy of my records too.

Did a very good job. However, I twisted my body while in bed and now my knee is hurting again. Not as bad as before surgery but not sure it will heal itself.

I saw Dr Schumacher here but was referred to him specifically by another Dr who seemed to think a lot of him. I waited in a very uncomfortable room, (why in the world would an ortho clinic where people are generally in severe pain have such uncomfortable seating) for close to an hour. It was a 9:15 am appointment too. Shouldn't have been so behind that early. This was September 14. He came in, took a very brief look at the MRI I'd brought in & said he'd do a procedure. He took out the equipment & did it. Just like that. Maybe 10 minutes tops, probably less. No information about the procedure nor projected results. No written information with potential side effect information for me to read. I've had procedures in the past & have always had written information to read & sign. I shouldn't have stayed but it occurred so quickly. So it began hurting worse in the following days & I cancelled the follow up appt. Figured there was nothing to be done about it. Eventually when it continued to increasingly hurt I called & re-scheduled a follow up for November 1. Didn't have to wait too long this time but when he arrived he literally stood in the doorway & asked "better or worse?" I stated "worse" & he said, "try physical therapy". I told him where I've done PT in the past & feel comfortable & he said it was fine. Then he walked away. Follow up for whomever responded, I have no idea whom to ask to speak with when calling your general number! The customer service person stated they would ask a manager to return my call & it's been over 10 days. I'd like to call again but who should i ask for? Maybe just providing the general clinic number isn't the most effective thing to do if you really mean it. (Edited). Another edit. I never did get through to someone when I called the main office number left here asking me to "follow up". A manager never called me like I was told would happen. Finally in early December I received a call from some one who said she had been going through some "old" negative reviews" & was responding to them. She didn't seem to take me very seriously as I was essentially asked to agree that we shouldn't expect much in the way of communication from surgeons! Just accept it! Wow! I don't understand who the surgeon the pts on the clinics actual website was. He can't have been the same person I saw. They all consistently refer to his wonderful communication skills etc. I'm guessing the clinic posts only the positive reviews but still can't understand why a physician would treat patients so differently. This site won´t allow me to post additional reviews so I wanted to relay my most recent experience at AFOC. I needed carpal tunnel surgery so they told me Dr Kurt Mentzer would be doing it. I was told I wouldn´t be able to have my appt with him but with his PA. She is nice but they told me he generally doesn´t meet his patients!!! I vaguely remember seeing him across the room while on the gurney at Creekside Surgery Center. Have had two follow ups so far with the PA due to negative issues post surgery but have never met him. AFOC is assembly line medicine. Ptś are body parts. Never again.

Great experience, my daughter is a competitive figure skater who started to have some knee pain. We used the walk in clinic service and she was treated like a princess. Staff really took their time explaining everything about her injury. Very family friendly too.

Debbie Hanning

Yesterday my grandaughter had a appt with this clinic. I am so disappointed with the shaming that her Doctor and Nurse played on her. She is 13 years old and has a condition that is no fault of her own she has lived with and will continue to live with for the rest of her life. I will be reporting this team( doctor- nurse) who dystroyed her for reasons I dont understand. It seems like they were playing a junior high mean girl game. Again I dont understand why they felt the need to do this but it took away every bit of spirit she had. As her grandmother and her loving advocate I will continue to look for caring- understanding Doctors and medical team to help her. Also I want to say the the ladies at the front desk and nurse that took us back are wonderful. Im sure they get all the bad and complaining people who are having bad days or Doctors who think they can treat children unfairly who dump on them . We were treated wonderful and respectfully by them. Thank you

Sharon Dunckle

Very friendly and helpful staff. Dr was great, he answered questions and explained options.

Aaron Powell

My Dr. Was Dr. Thomas. This man is amazing. You would be crazy to choose any other surgeon. I completely trust him and his whole staff. Highly recommend after my numerous surgical procedures on my damaged left leg. His follow up care is second to none as well.

The walk in clinic was fantastic, they were fast and friendly. I didn't even have a chance to sit down and they were calling me back. I would definitely recommend.

I got surgery 5 days ago, trying to reach my doctor/nurses, somebody left my number and have not heard back from anybody in two days. The most terrible client service I have ever experienced at a clinic.

Jennifer Boisvert

This is a great clinic with great doctors! Only problem is that when you are in terrible pain with an injury and need to see someone SOON, as most people with orthopedic injuries do, they are booked more than 2 months out!! Once you are in, you are in! If you can wait that long to deal then you are screwed. It just doesn't make sense to me to run a clinic like this!! I have had terrible issues with carpal tunnel in my hands and am in a lot of pain daily, but can't get in to see anyone about it for 2 months, but then that doesn't work in my schedule, so now we are talking a 4 month wait just to talk with a specialized doctor about what are my options?! This is ridiculous!

Gabriel Ingram

My experience was painful but the doctors an the physical therapist teams where amazing tey did the best job that they could do an I want to say thank you guys for helping me out I am still able to use my fingers to the full ablity an I want to say that I was lucky to have amazing doctors that helped me out thank you guys an an women so much because I wouldn't know what to do if you doctors an therapist weren't there keep up the good great work..........

Dr Sparks and his staff accommodated my time schedule and listen to me for all my issues. They’re very professional and Dr Sparks does excellent work. It’s really sad I had to move out of state but will check in with them next year.

kenneth Swarthout

Dr prevost is my superhero. Had Compound fractures on tibia and fibula. He bolted me back together with titanium rods and screws like it was no big deal. I dont even have a scar. It took a tremendous amout of determination on my part as well, but i walk without a hitch. Amazing!!

Don Hannah

A.J. DAVIES

Talented physicians, incompetent staff. They do not return phone calls and lie. There is no personal level of care given. AFOC is too large, and you are nothing but a walking insurance policy for them to over bill. The facilities are nice but poorly maintained. They have a broken HVAC system that blows 20mph winds through out the facility and no one cares. This place is the Walmart of broken bones.... They may have what you need, but don't expect anything special. i would not recommend this place to anyone.
