Great compassionate care.

If I could give a negative rating, I would! Alaska Heart Institute has THE WORST staff I have ever had the BURDEN of dealing with. I had a procedure on my heart in November of 2017. Soon after I was discharged (hours later) I started having chest pain along with some other symptoms. I went to the ER and was diagnosed with pneumonia. I was also starting to form a firm lump where my incisions were. I called to speak to my Dr. (as he told me “if you have ANY questions whatsoever just give me a call”) and his case manager (Jesse) RUDLY refused and told me I was not to call them for any quiestions, I was not allowed to talk to my surgeon. I then tried to talked to the manager of the EP clinic (Karen) and she proceeds to tell me I’m wrong. I CAN NOT speak to my Dr. this was my first cardiac procedure EVER and I could tell something was not right. AHI refuses to let me speak to my Surgeon. Karen then proceeds to tell me I am not a patient of AHI. AFTER I JUST HAD MY HEART PROCEDURE. So I ask to speak to her supervisor and she flat out refused. She said “no, I will not transfer you to anybody. I’m going to report you to your cardiologist and we’ll take it from there.” Fast forward to January 2018 My Cardiologist FINALLY gets ahold of my Surgeon and my meds were IMMEDIATELY adjusted. Two months after adjusting my meds, we found they weren’t helping. Now I was in for my second heart procedure. For people working at a “Heart Institute” they were EXTREMELY CARELESS. It took me months to get help with this, and I just hope that people with more serious conditions than I, who may not have months don’t have to deal with this.

Discounted everything I said, told me I was overreacting, and that there was nothing wrong with me, told me that even though I can't lay flat cuz I wake up gasping for air unable to breathe and your doc said it's probably heartburn. And my fatigue is probably sleep apnea. Nevermind the fact that I have a 2.5cm ASD and a respiratory rate that is in 30s, all day everyday without feeling lightheaded because I am not hyperventilating, my body has grown accustomed to this because my lungs no longer function at normal levels because the extra pulmonary pressures have hurt enough alveoli that I breathe at these speeds constantly in order to compensate.....but all of that is discounted. Look back to my 2008 visit to you guys, where my echo showed an enlarged right ventricle and I was sent there because my doc worried about my +2 pitting edema might be heart related. Yet somehow now.....yet even with a lower ejection fraction in 2016 than in 2008, as evidenced by ECHOs, still somehow your doctor today figured he would discount all of my symptoms, tell me they are normal, and that I am overreacting, to the point of driving me to tears in his office...... I wish I could have given a zero, but your lowest is 1. Whenever you are watching a medical show and you see a patient who let something go till it was really super bad, or who are just plain afraid of going to the doctor....it's because of people like these guys.

If I could give zero stars I would. Today I called to make an appointment, I was drilled like a drill sergeant. I want to find some medical records first before they will even make an appointment for me. How does somebody go get their heart check to see if they are healthy, if the doctor is interviewing you before he even decide to make an appointment for you. I don't have any prior medical records and I explain that to the receptionist five times! After putting me on hold for a very long time she decided she did not want to make an appointment for me because I needed to provide her with medical records first then I don't even have!!!

Dr. Wu has been following my care for the last few years. I mostly saw him at the Homer specialty clinic, and once in his Anchorage office. I have tachycardia with some shortness of breath during exertion. I see a lot of negative reviews, and I'm sorry for all of you who had such terrible care. I hope AHI addresses your concerns. I haven't really had to interact with the office staff other than checking in and giving a copy of my ID and insurance, so that could be why I only have had positive experiences. Dr. Wu seems to move quickly through the appointment, but I always felt that my questions and concerns were addressed. Pleasant experiences all around.

I will never come to this facility again. Very poor services and customer service, front desk and billing department not interested on patient care at all. Someone need to take care of employees.

Doctors have been great. Nursing staff needs a lot of work. Just had one hang up on me after saying you have repeated yourself over and over. I get it. Well.. patient care dosent seem to be a great concern of the nursing staff... but I would highly recommend dr. Wu. And some of the other doctors.

I had to go into this to do a CTA and Peter, Tom, Lisa and Dr. KELLEY all was so nice. I had a reaction to the dye and Peter and Tom didn't leave my side. They are awesome. Dr Kelley saw me because he was in between patients. Honestly only want to see Kelley of I do have to go to Anchorage.

Took them 3 weeks to send the records and but less than a minute to delete our Facebook comment complaining about it

These people have been life savers for my spouse and, in turn, myself. If you have a heart or vascular issue of any kind this is the place to be seen in Alaska. Dr. Willcox restored my spouses quality of life, as did Dr. Wu. These people know what they're doing. I don't know how much I care for their self-check-in system but if you have issues simply say something to the staff and they're helpful. The doctors are really great and that's what's most important. We haven't been without complication or frustration but these doctors gave us our lives back, and that's priceless.

A mighty five star review for the Alaska Heart Institute as the mere address and cartography of this facility teaches US that "FROM" a circle a warm and loving heart can be achieved via two folds. A centaur crease and THEN a final corner bend. This I learned from no other than my boss the Basque Queen herself Sandra Annette Bullock who's father John is joining the axis planes with a pair of hooks ~ one a mirror of the other. Cardioid patters of the body of existence sound an echo that even an elk can hear near a lake of kale. And what that elk interprets is, and I quote... " A superhero responder ponders unsphered dehorners hereupon the Filipino redhorse circle sphere."

I highly recommend Alaska Heart and Vascular Institute. I needed two ablations for two different issues, and it went great both times. I highly recommend Dr. Compton. He took the time to clearly explain what was happening my heart so that I knew what was going on. I live in the valley, but it’s worth the drive to Anchorage to go to their office. They’ve been in Alaska for a long time and they know what they are doing.

The doctors are great. The nurses, not so much. I've never had such an issue with anyone until recently. 11/16/2018 did a holter monitor. I turned it in. It is now 12/27/2018, and I havent even received my results. But, they have them. I've called, messaged, and I get nothing back. "Shelly" has called me ONCE, I did miss her call, because, life, I have kids. I called her back and never heard from her again. All I want are my results. Yet, she, or whoever sent them to one of my other doctors (who is on vacation so I cant even ask him for the results) how am I suppose to know if anything is wrong? Am I suppose to walk in there and wait for my results? The front desk people are sweet, and kind, no issues there.

louise dean

I love it....sitting in the waiting area of the heart institute with the people at the front desk eating potato chips.....

Dr Compton did an ablation on me February 13, 2019. I was refused to stay overnight as per the plan for weeks before ablation. I've had complications afterwards and Zona told me there's nothing they can do for me. Nurses need more tact and not be so rude (a different nurse decided I don't want to stay overnight after procedure as well) now I'm worse than before procedure and NO ONE will help me. I was coughing up blood, can't keep food down, chest pains, permanently exhausted, always sleeping or vomiting for over month now. This is ridiculous and poor after care.

This is one of the worst! And I mean WORST medical providers I have ever had to work with! They have yet to release my father's medical information to his surgeons out of state and everyday they don't is a day my dad is closer to death!!!! How dare you be so inept at your jobs!!!! Your staff is the worst. How can you live with yourselves knowing that clerical errors and bad management are actually killing people. By not being timely with the health of the most vital organ you are signing people's death warrant. I hope you can live with that guilt. Because of this I may have to live without my father.

Well, I did not have a primary care physician, so talking to these folk was not really possible, but I did manage to get a referral through an urgent care clinic, and then things started happening. In fact, the biggest barrier to my treatment has been that my ride got the flu, and I had to reschedule appointments. In one case the appointment had to be made with a satellite center. They set it up with a hospital I trusted after I told them I did not trust the first one they suggested.. The urgent care clinic that referred me just requested records so we will see how fast they respond.

I am a healthy 30 year old female that suffered SCA. 4 months later they’re no closer to finding out what caused it or why I continue having chest pains and other symptoms. They don’t seem motivated to find answers even though my EF has decreased by 10 in the last month, Dr. Grey wrote me a prescription for 4 times the dose of a beta blocker that I was supposed to be on. As if healing from all this wasn’t bad enough they’re putting me through the ringer. And I don’t feel like they take me seriously with my health concerns. I am currently seeking a second opinion out of state since every cardiologist is based out of AHI. If there was another cardiologist office in anchorage id be there.

Love these people...Dr Kramer and Ireland have saved my life. I wish they were immortal and could help people for decades to come

Teresa Bowen

I had a great experience with all of my visits here. Even when I was running behind 10 minutes they still saw me. I did call ahead and let them know. The front desk was polite and Dr Quinn was a pleasure. I felt heard and taken seriously and they did everything needed to make sure I was taken care of.
