I heard great things about the Dermatologists here, so I called to make an appointment. They couldn't get me in for 3 months, and I asked if I could be put on a waiting list.. The receptionist turned completely RUDE on me, and was not willing to help me at all. Told me that they don't do waiting lists, that they do have cancellations so if I wanted to call multiple times a day and see if an opening came open I could. I did as she said, called back 2.5 hours later, and a different receptionist answered the phone. Once again, I was treated like I was a nobody. She said that she personally hadn't received any cancellations. She also told me that I didn't need to call multiple times a day. That I could call once a day. AND that usually when they do have a cancellation it fills in right away. Basically telling me "good luck". I cannot believe how you are treated over the phone, I will never consider going to their office ever again. Nobody deserves to be treated like this.

Before I made my appointment I was told they were preferred providers for Bluecross Blueshield, upon arrival the receptionist confirmed that they "do work" with Bluecross Blueshield. Upon checkout I realized I had been intentionally misled (they are NOT preferred providers with ANY insurance) by receptionists who minced words so I would proceed with doctors appointment, and then after I had been billed the receptionist and especially the office manager were rude, condescending and threatening. And as for the service.... the suspect mole I came in about was given no more than a cursory glance before the doctor handed me a pamphlet ("What You Should Know About Skin Cancer") and left. I paid 200$ for a worthless pamphlet and an hour of mistreatment, about 60 seconds of which was spent with an actual doctor.

Dismissive staff. 30 MINUTE WAIT to be seen by technician plus 15 minute early arrival for paperwork. Then MORE WAITING for the doctor. They called and texted several times as a reminder of my day and time of appointment. They value THEIR time but not YOURS. They had no trouble quickly collecting from insurance for the WHOLE hour though one technician saw us for less than 4 minutes and the doctor for 12 minutes. The doctor was friendly and knowledgeable. Be prepared to wait a LOT. All this was 1 HOUR and 15 minutes for about 15 minutes of atrention.

Went in for a small bump on my husbands neck. The PA Was in the room not even 2 minutes, felt his neck and said she was referring us across the hall. We were appalled to pay $160 for a referral and absolutely zero information. We definitely won't be returning.

I was able to get a next day appointment without difficulty. Staff was kind and courteous. Waited in waiting room about 10 mins. Not bad. After going into exam room, waited less than 5 mins to see Doctor and his student. Both were kind and courteous and introduced themselves, I got my issue resolved to my satisfaction quickly and efficiently. Very professional staff. Thank you.

My experience with the doctors and the support staff at the Alaska Center for Dermatology doesn't resonate at all with the negative reviews posted here. On the contrary, I have yet to encounter a medical facility in town that operates with the same promptness and efficiency. This past Thursday, for example, I was scheduled to have a wart removed by Dr. Ehrnstrom. I arrived 15 minutes before my appointment, I was called into the examination room five minutes after check-in, and the mole was removed and I was back out the door and through billing in less than 15 minutes. It would be unreasonable for me to expect all my appointments to go so quickly; however, this doctor's office has always shown a great respect for my time and schedule by cycling me in and out without undue delays. That fact--along with the fact that their doctors are consistently polite and courteous (something I value right up there with medical acumen)--prompts me give this center extremely high marks.

I was told my insurance would cover the bill; I have met my deductible for the year- and I get a bill for 245. Office manager calls and has a horrible attitude. Save your time and money do not come to this place.

Peter Zell

Dr Moreland was helpful and a professional. I would recommend him if you need a dermatologist.

Herbert Schroeder

These physicians have taken great care of me for years.

Efficient welcome and warm environment. This is an attractive and professional office that runs smoothly. Carmen T'Joens was friendly and explained things well -- not rushed in any way. Thanks for making this easy and fast.

As a middle aged woman with a lot of moles, skin tags and scalely bumps (gross), a trip to the Dermatogist for a full body check is right up there on the list of things you hate to do, with PAP smears. The office staff were enthusiastic and smiling, the PA was thorough and helpful and Dr. Covington was awesome. They both put me at ease about my flabby body and Dr. Covington explained what all the spots meant, what to watch for, etc. reassuring me everything was fine ~ even my back which I can't really see. Summers in the 1970s, 80s and 90s in Michigan... Beaches, boating, tanning have taken their toll. Nobody was preachy or judgmental. Dr. Covington is young but very knowledgeable, smart and she was super sweet and warm. I would recommend her and this busy, popular facility to my friends. The only caveat is the building - parking garage is a nightmare (use free valet parking...) and then navigating to find T4-020 was super confusing but that's the fault of the landlords. Very little signage so go early.

Coming from a Providence Employee and pre-med student I was quite disappointed how I was treated by the provider. We all have busy lives and schedules, but don’t make your patient feel like they’re a burden and just another ‘cow on a cattle farm’. A new patient visit shouldn’t be done within 5 minutes. Regardless if it’s a quick visit, take time with your patient, they took time out of their busy day to come see you. Show them you do carry the Providence CORE VALUES. It’s not all about what you know. First impressions especially matter when someone is trusting you with their personal health. Lastly don’t end a visit with a lack of manners or professionalism. Leaving the visit with ‘have fun with your pregnancy’ is certainly not going to drive me back to putting my care in your hands. It’s just not the word choice you end a new patient visit you just met 3 minutes ago. Disappointed and appalled my experience was like this at the hospital I work at.

I saw Dr. Mooreland and his assistant Rachel (not sure of title) recently and was impressed with the care I received. They were professional, thorough and kind. I recommend this office for those looking for dermatology care in Alaska.

AK49Gunner

I called them JUST NOW to ask about insurance eligibility and was treated to THE rudest 1:21 "customer service" phone call of my life. I work in customer service so I make it a point not to be 'that guy", but it was bad, just bad. I will not be going here just based on the call I made.

Denise Aafedt

I have been extremely impressed with Alaska Center for Dermatology. The entire staff has been both sensitive and professional. They run on schedule, reached out to me to see how I was doing after a procedure, and provided me with the doctor’s personal after-hours phone number in case of emergency. I highly recommend this Provider.

Saw Dr. Covington, about a growth on my neck. She , did not seem too interested in the pain associated with the lump. She measured it and that was it. She seemed to be in a hurry to get to another patient. Later, it was correctly diagnosed as an infection. He skill level and patient compassion fell far below expectations.

Went in for a consult, had many questions prepared. Sat in the waiting room 30 minutes after my scheduled appointment time before I was taken into the exam room. The MA was polite. The Dr who finally came to see me was Dr McLeish. She was very short and clearly in a hurry. She did not give me a chance to ask any of my questions, and cut me off when I tried. She did not even do an exam or look at my skin. She prescribed a steroid pack but gave no instructions on when to start/how much to start with. She ran out the door maybe 3 minutes after entering. I asked the MA to clarify with her how to take the prescription but she was already in another patient room. The MA said she would ask and call me that afternoon with an answer. Never got a call. Waited 3 days before I finally called and got a snappy answer from that same MA. Then they billed my 320$ when the doctor didn't even look at my skin, did not answer any of my questions, and was not helpful with the prescription she wrote. Probably will not return here.

Wow is Kim a peach. NOT. She was rude so I was rude back. She didn't get close to my skin to look at it. She asked me what works, what I've tried, and what I want to try. I told her I've tried everything and nothing has worked so we need to find something else and she snapped back with 'like what?' So I told her that I'm not a doctor so I don't know. I will not be coming back. I paid twice as much as it would've cost for my to see a family doctor, which I was going to go to but then I thought 'I want a dermatologist to look at my skin since it's their specialty.' Nope, Kim looked at from a distance. I requested the dictation from the visit so it'll be interesting to see what she notes. She didn't care that I've tried everything out there and she wanted to put me back on something that didn't work on the past. I would not recommend this office to anyone. Zero stars should be an option because Kim deserves it.

David Driscoll

I do not recommend the Alaska Center for Dermatology. After encountering rude front-line staff, a 40 minute delay, and a two-minute visit with a PA, I was charged $370. You can find better care elsewhere.

Meghan Williams

Always on the ball, don't make you wait late for an appointment!

Ruth McClain

Never going back. Today I had an appointment at 2:45. 3:00 really, but I was told to be there at 2:45 to fill out paperwork. No problem...got there even earlier, don't want to be late and cause a Doctor to wait on me. I filled out paper work. Finally at 3:30 was called back to a waiting room. I told them I needed to use the rest room. They told me I needed to go out in the main part of the hospital to use the rest room. What? You mean you don't have a restroom back in the exam room area? What if I was in an exam room and needed to use the restroom..would I need to get my clothes on and go out in the main part of the hospital? Anyway,,, was ushered into the exam room, with never an explanation of why the Doctor was late, no apology, nothing. I sat there with my clothes off for 30 minutes which I then got fed up, put my cloths on and left. They waisted an hour, fifteen of my time.

After a poor experience at Senter Dermatology, I came to the Alaska Center for Dermatology for a 2nd opinion. I saw Dr. Ehrnstrom and am so glad I did because it has been an entirely better experience, start to finish. From scheduling to check-in to wait time, from professionalism to efficiency, and from congeniality to good communication, I will not go anywhere else from now on. I feel confident that I am in good hands and that they have addressed my current needs and will do so in the future as well. Dr. Ehrnstrom is very nice and patient and will take the time to answer your questions without making you feel stupid. The staff could not be friendlier and more accommodating. They are efficient and good at what they do. I'm really glad I came to this office! Highly recommended! :-)

I had an excellent experience with Dr. Ehrnstrom. I drove down from Fairbanks for my pre-op appointment. Did the paper work and was seen by the doctor on time. Doctor Ehrnstrom introduced himself and spent fifteen minutes with me discussing the procedure and after care. The following day my surgery was successful. He explained what he was doing as his soft touch and skilled hands removed the Basil cell from my nose. He and his staff made an unpleasant situation for me quite quick and easy. After stitching me up he gave me his personal cell with instructions to call if I had any problems. Later that day a member of his staff called and asked how I was doing. I was impressed at that personal touch. A week later I received a thank you card in the mail--yes in the mail. My experience here was first rate. A clean facility with a very skilled surgeon and an excellent supporting staff.

Forgive me for leaving a Tolstoy-length review about my experience ... is Dr. Ehrnstrom a good physician? Yes. Is he good with people? No. The man never even took the time to introduce himself, which didn't dawn on me until after my visits and surgery. He comes in like a whirlwind, leaving little time for introspection. Think about that ... he put his hands on my body, cut into it, and didn't even take the time to say "Hi! I'm Dr. Ehrnstrom. How are you?" He even barked at me as he began to give injections into my chest when the surgery started. The pain kind of caught me off-guard, so I raised my left arm. He gruffly said "Put your arm down." My favorite part of the ordeal was how cavalier he was about doing a biopsy when I mentioned I thought a spot looked suspicious. He was ALL over that, and I was stuck with the entire bill. When I addressed it later (saying maybe we should've seen if it was covered first) the office manager kept saying "That's not how dermatology works." I LOVE when folks are so quick to spend my money, especially when it costs them nothing. The post-op instructions I received addressed "if" I needed to change the dressing, not when. The nurse said the one I had would come off the next day when I showered. I wasn't told in any way, shape or form that I HAD to keep it covered. When that bandage fell off and I saw the 6" gash across my chest, I knew that wasn't an option. So, I had to get in the car, drive myself to Walgreen's and figure it out. (Which was the last thing I wanted to do the day after surgery. Every time I hit a bump, well, you can imagine.) When I shared this while getting my stitches removed, the PA said "So what you're telling me is you were inconvenienced." If she hadn't had sharp utensils a few inches from my face I might have responded stronger. When you live by yourself and have surgery to remove cancer, it's a bit more than an "inconvenience." There were 2 bright spots in the whole thing. Season (one of the nurses) was awesome as was the gentleman in the billing department. They were delightful, and made paying off the remainder of my bill a piece of cake. (Including the damn biopsy.) If how you're treated doesn't matter and you're happy to just pay for service, this is your place. But know that you are paying for a health transaction, not health care.

This is the absolute worst medical facility of any kind that I have ever been to. Terrible customer service. Would not recommend anyone go there.

Melody Llaneza

rude receptionist. my derm recommended me here for my psoriasis to start injections. i called to make an appointment and i said i had tri-care. they said i needed a referral from tri-care to be able to be seen.

Sheryl Adams

Dr. Peter Ehrnstorm was great. He takes the time to explain procedures and answer any questions you have. The procedure went pretty quick with little discomfort.

Judith Kreiss

Saw Dr. Covington and was very impressed with her and the employees at Alaska Center for Dermatology. After living and gardening in So. Calif. for many years, I have a lot of precancerous lesions and Dr. Covington and staff are keeping them from developing into skin cancers for which I am very grateful!

Jordan Stamnes

Dr. McLeish is kind, professional, and quick witted (bonus point). She listened to my concerns and quickly assessed my symptoms. Not only did she thoroughly inform me on different products to use, she explained causes for my symptoms and the reasons behind them. Dr. McLeish helped me create a plan of care with my opinion in mind vs. telling me what to take and leaving the room in a rush. In the event that I need derm care again, I will be more than happy to see Dr. McLeish. Every staff member I worked with from the initial phone call, the front desk check in staff, caring medical assistants, and check out staff were friendly and professional. Thanks AK Derm!

Maggie Powers

I had a great experience here at my new patient visit. Dr. Brown was extremely attentive and kind. Her MA went above and beyond to help me with my specialty medications. I was very pleased with how I was treated and very thankful for Dr. Brown's insight! Very thankful.

Randy Beuter

Quick, painless, in and out in a very reasonable amount of time . Staff was helpful and nice. Price was reasonable something I NEVER get to say when I see a doctor . The price was just what they said on the phone. Dr Brown was very good NO PAIN. She said I was done and I was like wow I never felt anything!

I recently saw Kim K.. PA-C at ACfD and had a fantastic experience. They were polite, professional, efficient and took care of my needs. Kims bedside manor was top notch. I would highly recommend and will be heading back there if I ever have any needs in the future.

My experience with the Alaska Center for Dermatology doesn't resonate with the negative reviews posted here. Everyone I have interacted with in this office has been professional, polite, and accommodating. My appointment was with Dr. Stephanie McLeish. I found her to be friendly, professional, and interested in my health and well being. Dr. McLeish prescribed medication and explained how to take the medication. Additionally, when I picked up my prescription, the pharmacy went over the details of the medication as well. There are limited dermatology offices in Anchorage and it can be frustrating when appointments can't be scheduled right away. However, this is a supply and demand issue with many medical services in Alaska. I highly recommend Alaska Center for Dermatology.

Jen Theulen

Kind front desk staff and quick scheduling. Dawn and Doctor Moreland made me feel safe and comfortable while they assessed a couple of suspicious moles. Dawn provided me great after care instructions and insured that I understood. Strongly recommended.

Marina Duvaul

The women at the front desk are very rude. The doctor was nice and helpful though.

D O

well established, several excellent doctors although they do cosmetic procedures, they are focused at real dermatology medical issues

I made an appointment with an M.D. for my daughter. Her veteran pediatrician was very concerned about a possible melanoma on her toe. Upon arrival, I was told that I would be seen by a woman who apparently only had a first name, not the M.D. with whom I had scheduled. As happens to so many others, she danced in and out without ever properly inducing herself and without explanation of what the lesion was. The woman we saw was apparently a nurse practitioner and must be a fan of the rockstar Prince in that she only goes by one name as well. Upon realizing that I was also and M.D., an actual dermatologist came in for another minute and offered reassurance with little other information. My dermatology referrals go elsewhere.

Starting off I went to the Alaska Center for Dermatology to get a second opinion. I had seen another dermatologist earlier who was scheduling me another appointment to remove some lesions around my eyes. When I went to Alaska Center for Dermatology the PA barely spent five minutes with me and dismissed the skin lesions around my eyes saying they were probably due to high cholesterol and gave a low dose prescription for doxycycline (which after insurance was still expensive). I have never had high cholesterol and earlier this year when I got my cholesterol checked it was fine but worried there might be a change I went to my doctor the next day to get my cholesterol checked. My regular doctor didn't think the lesions looked like they were due to high cholesterol but checked my cholesterol levels anyway and it was in the normal range. I then went back to my original dermatologist who removed the lesions around my eyes using equipment that I had seen in the Alaska Center for Dermatology evaluation room. This dermatologist also prescribed me a high dose of doxycycline (which after insurance was 10 TIMES LESS expensive than the other prescription). Confused and thinking there had been an error at the pharmacy I asked why the higher dose of Doxycycline was less expensive than the weaker dose for the same drug. I learned supposedly it is more expensive to get a weaker dose. All in all I would not recommend going back to Alaska Center for Dermatology as they don't spend much time with you, dismiss concerns, and aren't familiar with prescription prices. The net result being that patients overpay for sub par services.

Dawn Short

Brought my ten year old there after a rash that continued for about a month and kept spreading. I mentioned they should check for scabies a common skin mite. The nurse and Doc both looked him over. I indicated more than one family member itched and they insisted it was hives and eczema. I was prescribed a very very expensive cream ($400 for those without insurance) for which I was nicely given a 3 time discount card for which dropped it for three times. My kid kept itching bad. Then my daughter who does not live with us but visited the prior moth showed up and had the same rash. So we went to a first care walk in and they confirmed it was scabies and gave us the right meds for a fraction of the cost. This caused the infestation to get worse over the week we took the wrong meds. Let me tell you the 15 minutes I spent at AK Center for Dermatology was the biggest waste of time. They are specialist and barely looked at my child. I am so disappointed. Oh lets not forget that they touched my kid without gloves while he had a highly contagious condition and if they did not give us the treatment they probably at least introduced it to several other patients. Google scabies. If I could rate them lower than poor I would. Once we got the right meds relief and healing was almost over night.

Jason Patterson

Weak. The "doctor" took literally one look at me and boom "diagnosis". Just walked in the door, she barely glanced at me, charged me. Paid $500 out of pocket.

Kevin Smith

The dermatologist appointment itself was fine (we actually saw a Dr) and they addressed the issues that I had concerns about. However, the office staff was very misleading about insurance. They told me that they "take our insurance" when I made the appointment and also when I checked in and provided my insurance card. During checkout they said that I "did not owe anything"! Then I find out that they aren't really part of my insurance network and they misled me to get treatment that they knew wouldn't be covered by my insurance. Not the experience I expect to have with a professional organization. I will be going elsewhere in the future.

Duncan Galland

I went in looking for a simple opinion on a rough spot on my nose. The PA looked at it for about five seconds, then started spraying some liquid nitrogen at a bunch of places on my face, something I did not ask for. Total time of the exam and treatment was less than ten minutes. When I got the bill, it was $400 over what my insurance would pay for. Also, the treatment did absolutely nothing except make some small scabs that went away after a week or so. Conclusion: Not too concerned with their patients, more concerned with racking up charges from bogus treatments.

Douglas Krukoff

I think the name of the dermatologist I had was Michael? Anyway, first of all he was "sick," so he couldn't shake my hand. Secondly, regarding the two reasoning I was there, he was somehow upset that I had asked. When I asked a question too, he shot back with such attitude. Wouldn't recommend.

Rachel

Waited in the lobby for 30 minutes after my scheduled appointment time. Got a whole 10 minutes with the dermatologist for an initial patient visit. Every concern I had was dismissed. I basically paid for a pamphlet and not even given one regarding my main concern. The visit was completely worthless. I now have to find another provider who will hopefully address my skin needs.

Laura Witham

I cannot say ENOUGH good things about Dr. Covington. First and foremost, let me start by saying the front desk staff was kind and courteous. Then on to Dr. Covington's medical assistant. She was kind and gentle and listened fully to my concerns and fully answered my questions. She also asked very pointed and precise questions to make sure she was getting ALL the information, not just some of it. On to Dr. Covington. She came in, evaluated me, and gave me honest answers and honest treatment options. I was crying when she walked in due to stress and pain and the first thing she did was set me at ease. Then she explained my condition and the treatment options which included needing to drain a cyst that was very inflamed and very angry. She was gentle with the injections which honestly didn't hardly hurt at all - My nose piercing hurt worse - and talked me through all of them. She explained everything she was doing and soon we were all laughing and talking about anything and everything as she finished the procedure. She was concerned about my pain level and always stopped and administered more numbing when I told her I was feeling pain. She scheduled a follow up visit and told me she'd make sure to check in with me in the meantime. Her honesty, compassion, and friendliness was exactly what I needed in my time of stress and discomfort. I highly recommend her and this office. They were wonderful!

Dianne's Restaurant

After struggling with a skin condition that I couldn't get to clear up, I have seen a Doctor at Ak Center for Dermatology and gotten a diagnosis and treatment plan. The entire staff has been friendly, competent and professional. Megan has a warmth, kindness and sensitivity that helps make my twice weekly visits a pleasurable experience. They always get me in and out in a timely manor. The Doctor took time to answer my questions and gave me written information as well as treatment options. This has been a very positive experience for me; one that I had initially been dreading.

Sk Sk

They told us our visit would be covered by our insurance so we made the appointment. Come to find out a month later that we now have to pay for our visit. I asked them why they told us our insurance would cover it and they said they wouldn't know until they sent in the bill. So why did you confirm that our insurance would cover it then? Don't trust them.
