My daughter had a positive hpt and just before her first appointment, she began to bleed. When I brought her into Aventa she was given an ultrasound that showed "free fluid" near her ovary. When asked about the fluid we were told that it was a ruptured cyst from her ovary. We were told that no pregnancy could be seen in the uterus, but that her tubes were perfectly clear. Believing the sonographer, we thought it was a miscarriage or far to early to pick up the pregnancy visually. My daughter and I then sat and talked with the doctor and were told that we needed to wait to see if her hcg levels were going down. Foolishly, I put aside my own concern believing that the miscarriage would continue. We were even told at one point that the pregnancy may yet still be viable. That day she had her blood drawn and her hcg levels were going up instead of down. So the next morning she had another ultrasound. Again, they said that there could be a viable pregnancy that we needed to wait until the next day to rule out any other reason for the bleeding and pain. All in all we had three ultrasounds in four days at Aventa. The night of the final Aventa ultrasound I rushed my daughter to the emergency room in severe pain and massive bleeding. The hospital staff at southern health did an ultrasound (non transvaginal) and saw what we feared most. My daughter had a five centimeter tubal rupture. She was bleeding into her abdomen and was rushed into surgery where my healthy 19 year old lost not only her pregnancy, but her tube as well. When they opened her up blood poured out of the abdomen. She suffered both physically and emotionally which has scarred her for life. Aventa missed a huge rupture and my daughter almost died. The doctors at SAMC were amazing and saved her life, but she is forever scarred by the actions of Aventa and their staff. I am not one to speak poorly of others, but I would never want anyone else to suffer as we have. Our lives changed drastically because of the decision to go to Aventa. I pray that no one else will see the horrors of what we were made to endure.
