Dr. Gordon Rye is the first dentist I found after thirty years of TMJ and jaw joint instability who could actually take away the pain and stabilize my jaw. I had been to many dentists from both the DC/Baltimore corridor area to Stuart-Miami, Florida. Some were able to reduce the pain but none were able to fix the problem. Not only was Dr. Rye able to fix my problems, but his expertise and professionalism is the best I have ever encountered. He is a perfectionist in his field and will not allow anything but the absolute best in whatever he does. His staff is top notch and have always made me feel special, welcome, and comfortable.. OSA dental appliance helpful. Can be used with or without CPAP. Full face CPAP masks are uncomfortable and difficult to maintain a good seal. With oral appliance, a much smaller and more effective nasal mask can be used without having to worry about an uncomfortable chin strap.

I have been going to Dr Rye for about 25 years now. I'm very happy with the service I've gotten. I might be a special case - I have exactly one cavity (my Dad gifted me good teeth). However, I'm a nighttime grinder and I have worn a tooth-guard fitted by Dr Rye for some years. And a few years ago I acquiesced to being treated for sleep apnea and chose to go to a dental appliance (which holds your jaw in an optimal position for improved breathing) rather than the CPAP machine. I have to say that the dental appliance was a vast improvement in my quality of life. I had before and after sleep studies to check the efficacy of the dental appliance. The particular sleep clinic computes a single number from the night of sleep events from 10 for "normal" to 30 for "life-threatening". My number was 50. The appliance fitting took a month - you're changing your bite at night, especially if you grind, and the appliance needs to be adjusted until you're comfortable. but After having the dental appliance fitted my number was 13! And I didn't need the sleep study to know that it was working. It was like coming out of a fog. And Darling Wife is sleeping all night now too! (PS: Dr Rye wears a sleep apnea dental appliance as well.) So Darling Wife and I highly recommend Dr Rye and his team for the friendly, professional service they've provided.

Dr. Rye and his staff are the best! If you have TMJ and/or sleep apnea issues, this is THE place to be. On top of treating my TM disorder, I was fit for a MicrO2 device. This is a nighttime device to protect the TM joint and get more oxygen (from clenching/grinding). What a difference it made! I had the best night's sleep that first night! I would recommend this device to anyone suffering from TMD or sleep apnea.

"Only one issue" Rye's team is probably one of the best in customer service for dentistry. There isn't really an off day with them in terms of how they converse with their patients, provide information, and maintain their schedules. I feel that the physical office layout adds to the overall experience as a client and the tools that they use to provide the care you need make you confident in the practice. These qualities distinguish the practice from other offices where you may feel more like you are in a laboratory for an invasive procedure rather than in a health care provider's therapeutic care. After my family and friends have been clients for years with Rye's practice, the only criticism I can respectfully offer is the logistics of filing an insurance claim. Unfortunately, I'm not fond of filing my own claim forms after treatment and it sometimes becomes a burden of my time. Since I still enjoy the practice, I don't want to lower their rating for the claim procedure, but I do think it's fair to at least mention it as a concern.

I saw Dr. Julia Lokitis at Rye Smiles for Life for an emergency dental need - an embarrassing chipped front tooth. She squeezed me right away so no one had to even see me before it was fixed. She reassured me that bonding was best and shared all the information I needed to understand the procedure. She helped me choose the right color in all lights (inside and outside) and in the end it looks so good! It's the right color and shape, she was careful and thoughtful. Thank you, Dr. Lokitis!

My husband has sleep apnea. After years of sleep studies and CPAP machine misery, Dr. Rye suggested that he treat my husband with an oral appliance. Since that was the only hurdle to us both getting a good night's sleep without an intrusive machine, we decided to give it a try. The results were amazing....there is no more snoring. We were warned it may take some time for the appliance to work, yet on the first night there was peace and quiet for us both! Dr. Rye is a lifesaver. My whole family uses this practice and they have taken such good care of us - from regular cleanings to veneers and now sleep apnea. There is no better dentist, hygienist or staff- they are compassionate, concerned, feel like family, and they take all the pain out of going to the dentist. Couldn't recommend them any more highly- Dr. Rye truly loves what he does and is passionate about his practice! Truly grateful that he has added years to my husband's life!

This place is very clean and staff of very friendly. I have been to Dr. Lokitis for my cleaning and she examined me very patiently. She spent a lot of time understanding my teeth concerns and made me understand why I was having pain. Even Dr. Rye gave me free consultation and examined me for my concern that Dr. Lokitis provided. The person who referred to this office is amazing, she is the manager of this location on fairfax and her name is Sadaf. Sadaf understood my concerns and recommended me to come in for exam and see if I need cleaning. It was great experience and I highly recommend this dentistry to everyone.

This is one dental office I love going to. The atmosphere is clean, calming, friendly, and comfortable. The staff is warm, caring, personable yet are still efficient, professional and skilled. I love the way Dr. Rye has a number of excellent, credentialed, staff with their own responsibilities in their own rooms, then he visits each room and patient reviewing, consulting and doing the heavy duty work as required. He himself is very knowledgable with the most modern equipment and at the forefront of APNEA appliance. Beginning in 2010 he took an amazing new type of 3D Xrays of my mouth and he took them again in 2015 and was able to diagnosis some serious changes in my bite that he could print our and I can share with my medical APENA doctor. I love leaving with a cup of coffee for my drive home.

If you're looking for the best experience it's here. I use to fear the dentist not only because of your usual dental fears but because I was a tough case. I was born without several adult teeth and in my 20s already started to have symptoms of TMJ due to a very uneven bite. I still luckily had many baby teeth but needed a treatment plan that I trusted before they were lost. Dr Rye and his team immediately put me at ease. While other physicians had a wait and see attitude, or a gloomy prognosis; Dr Rye had a well thought out plan with amazing results. Now I have a beautiful and most importantly healthy smile. I have a combination implants, crowns, and veneers; that gave me a new bite and has stopped my symptoms of TMJ. It's been over 8 years now and the results are still perfect. I return to the office every 6 months for a check up and cleaning. The experience is always pleasant and with my comfort put first. I've seen both Ellen and Lou and they are both fantastic! I really can't thank or recommend Dr Rye and his staff enough!

I've been going to Dr. Rye since 1983 but moved to Alabama and then Florida in the mid 90' s and have had a number of different dentists due to the moves. But recently needed some major re-works and I remembered that he was the best dentist I had in all those years. So I have now made three trips from Daytona Beach to get work done here in Virginia. All I can say is it has been well worth the long 12 hour trips. In fact my regular dentist in FL has even commented on the quality of work I received from Dr. Rye. I had a great experience at Rye Smiles for Life. The office was really nice, and I really enjoyed the picture portraits on all of the walls of smiling, satisfied patients! Everyone in the office was incredibly welcoming, including the receptionist, the dental assistant, the woman that did my x-rays, and Dr. Lokitis herself. Dr. Lokitis was incredibly knowledgeable and personal. She was quick and efficient during my cleaning, but she took the time to explain everything to me in a very understandable way. It was about an hour for an initial exam (I just moved to the area), full cleaning, and two different types of xrays. I highly recommend her!

When my daughters got their braces off I asked the orthodontist (who had been straightening teeth for decades) who among all the DC area/Northern VA dentists he would recommend for any follow up cosmetic work and general dentistry. I had gone into Dr. Rye for a consultation after almost being taken advantage of by a shady dentist. So I went in there highly skeptical and defensive. I was having migraines and heard a total mouth reconstruction would do the trick. He and his staff were very up front and honest. They answered all of my questions to the best that they could with the limited information I could provide. I had no idea what I was getting into, but I signed on with them and took out a loan to cover the expenses. There were a few times I had to call him and his staff after hours, but they were very helpful. They also came in early one time for an “emergency” visit, without any attitude on their part. Toward the end, I was under a tight deadline b/c I was moving overseas. They fit me in and finished everything on time. Dr. Rye didn’t take my insurance, but if I were to move back to the area, I’d go back to him. He’s definitely worth the extra money. He doesn’t just come in, do his work, take your money, and shoo you away. He takes pride in providing quality service and product.

For the last 22 years, my husband and I have been driving to Fairfax for more than 4 hours to see Dr. Rye for cleaning and checkup or other treatments. I have been driving all the way to see him because I know Dr. Rye has gifted hands and his extraordinary talent is second to none. He can treat any condition with any level of complexity with results that are pure perfection because he is not just an educated doctor with lots of degrees and awards, but he is extremely intelligent and can custom design a solution that works for any challenging situation. I never have to visit him twice for the same issue. Once he fixed a problem, it is corrected forever with perfection. I truly believe that he is the best dentist in the whole world. Bad teeth runs in my family and if I didn't know Dr. Rye, I honestly would have lost most of my teeth by now. Each time I visited a different dentist, I was told that exceptional work has been done on my teeth by Dr. Rye and they were wondering why I was in their office instead of Dr. Rye's and I had to tell them about the long travel time.
