I have been going to Dr. Brown for decades. I have never once had a problem. Everything he has ever done for me, he has explained very thouroughly in very easy to understand terms. His staff is great. The girls in the office are wonderful. Those women deal with people all day and do it very professionally. I love Dr. Brown and his entirestaff. I send all my friends and family to him as well. Overall BEST dentist I have ever had. Hands down. Matter fact I have an appointment saturday. Thank you Dr. Brown. Keep up the great work.

My husband Jeff Jarnigan visited your office for a root canal and a crown. Dr. Carney and his staff was very, very professional during the treatment my husband received. All of his staff to include Autumn at the reception desk, to the dental assistants Audrey and Connie and finally the hygeniest Celeste were all very courteous, and very professional in all aspects of their job. I would definitely recommend their services at American Family Dentistry at Mountain Grove to all my family and friends.

Have only had one problem. Dr. Carney pulled a wisdom tooth and did a few fillings for me (not at the same time) the pull was a bit painful because he waited a good while after the numbing injection. With the fillings (3 at once) when he put the actual filling on them (front teeth) within a few hours of being home, the filling chipped. One one of the fillings I ended up needing a root canal. Something went wrong somewhere! However, with Dr. Brown, the other dentist in the office. He has pulled 2 teeth and done a root canal. He is very comforting, so nice! Makes sure I'm numb before starting. With the last pull I was wincing a bit because of my jaw being stressed out from all the pulling (tooth did not want to come out) he saw me and immediately stopped to make sure I was ok. I would totally recommend Dr. Brown. Dr. Carney, probably not!

Chat Conversation Start 9:25AM Have been a patient at the Mountain Grove Knoxville location for over 2 years. Dr Carney put in a crown and filling on 11/8. Called their office yesterday and made an appointment for this morning due to pain, headache, and sensitivity resulting from the the crown and filling. After getting to the office this morning, was told the earliest the doctor could see me is next week. So much for being able to depend on them for an emergency. The office staff offered nothing and was very unprofessional. They told me "that's all we can do". Is this the standard procedure for AFD?

Just want to give Dr.Brown and Dave a Big OOHRAH! I'm 52 now and have been to many different dentist in my lifetime,and by Far Dr.Brown is the Best !! Good friendly service and Dr. Brown and Dave are great at what they do! I highly recommended Dr.Brown, Great Dentist! Great Service!!!

I came in for xray and a general cleaning. The hygienist and Dr. Carney made me feel at ease immediately. One tip: don’t be afraid to ask for numbing paste if you feel pain at anytime.

I read the reviews before going. I was reluctant i must say. However, 4 visits later, doc karny? Spelling... Has been amazing. Staff has always been friendly and helpful. Always called to verify appts. Never waited past my appt time, and always in and out within 1 hour. Zero complaints here and im kind of hard to please. Id recommend to anyone needing good dentist work at a hood price as well. Thanks again mountaim grove American family dentist. Look forward to seeing you again Tuesday.

I had taken both of my boys for an apt, I did not know of the "pay at time of service" policy, seeing this was the first time I had been in this office, I was humiliated by staff as well as Dentist in front of lobby were other people could hear conversation about payments. As I tried explaining to both persons that the other parent ( father) was responsible for all dental and medical obligations, was quickly interrupted by dentist that my marital issues was not his problem and that I did not understand how infact he had dealt with others on this matter, then I interrupted saying I did understand because I have been in medical field ( pathology) 10 yrs and understood well enough, and called my x husband to pay over phone by credit card, all the while my kid was in the back with a gauze, bleeding from a pulled tooth and dentist didn't tell me anything about visit and care of my son, NO PATIENT CARE at all! just wanting $$$$$$!! Lost my business and will be reported. Do not recommend to anyone! And also in the midst of my ordeal another family was scheduled wrong on book.. Lady was upset because she had actually wanted apt for this day kid was off school for in service day. So another red flag

Went in for an emergency extraction and waited an HOUR to be seen after my appointment, even though I showed up fifteen minutes early. I have enough fears to deal with, so I accepted the NO2, and as I was starting to feel the effects, they decided that this was the best time to explain the procedure and discuss how I need to come back for full checkups. No, I'm only terrified and high at that point. Assistant told me to tell them when I was in pain. I tried to do just that as the procedure progressed, only to be ignored. When I could not open my mouth wide enough, they did not listen when I said I could not. Hey, thanks, guys, the new hole in my jaw needed a split lip to go with it. Oh, and when the x-ray film did not fit in my mouth, they tried to shove it into place anyway so that I nearly choked, but no one said "sorry." Finally, even after I reiterated several times that I was nursing, they only offered me Tylenol 3 (codeine) which is absolutely NOT recommended. Yeah, a fantastic experience, and exactly the reason I avoid the dentist. Find another.

Terrible place never going back I mean my god u have been doing teeth for all the years but u can’t tell me anything about a tooth without doing another X-ray a week after u pulled out my tooth u can tell it’s all about money with them it’s funny I am a contractor and I can about tell u something by looking at it by the way it’s 9 days later still in pain just found out there’s still a piece of tooth in my gum I’m not a dentist and found that out myself also u know I never had one problem with my teeth until having them cleaned by them I was told u have some of the best teeth I’ve seen as soon as I had the start working on my teeth it’s like stuff is all of a sudden going wrong so are the people not trained properly makes u wonder very unsatisfied

Walked in to make app....girl with curly hair never said hello or acknowledged me.....I stood there....finally she says "whatcha need ? Ok very professional I thought.......I told her I had called earlier with ins info to set up as new patient and was told I would get a returrln call I never got so I decided to stop in on my way to work to check the status..but she did not remember me calling ect......the whole time she never takes her eyes off the computer screen.....she says...Dont know what to tell you" at this point I am baffled by her demeanor and she seems to have no interest in customer service or social skills needed for the job either....but it gets worse....the older woman with black hair sitting in the back ,says....welll I guess I can try to help you.....she too is not very friendly.....Got a bad vibe from these women so I said never mind and left....Dr.Carney you need to mail out comment cards on your staff and your return address should be a personal postal box your staff has access to.You. are losing business hiring these llifeless poorly trained women....I can't be the only one they were dismissing to....they are very comfortable and experienced being rude

I purchased an ins plan that only this group is on. I read the bad reviews, but I wanted to stay positive and believe that it would be okay, but it was a mistake. Save yourself time and money and take these bad reviews seriously. In early May I called to schedule an appt for June, which my ins would be in effect by then. M.E. at Mountain Grove told me that they would not schedule an appt until they receive a roster from my ins. That is odd when you can call and verify my ins. (I am a medical biller and I know about insurance and billing. You schedule the appt and then you can verify that person's insurance. If there's an issue you call them back and discuss it.) I explained that I wanted to schedule it a month in advance so that I would have an appt ready and be less likely to miss work. She then said, We do not have any evening or weekend appts for the rest of the year. NO evening or weekends at all for the ENTIRE YEAR. really? She was unfriendly and did I mention that I called two days before anyone there would answer the phone? 1. She wouldn't schedule the appt. 2. Told me there were no evening or weekend appts for the rest of the year because they were booked. 3. No help at all. 4. rarely answer their phones. I canceled the dental insurance that I just purchased and went to another dentist who got me in asap and was great.

The worst dentistry experience I’ve ever had. I don’t understand the people rating this practice as 5 Stars. Nothing went well. The best employees were average at best, and the ones that were awful were really awful. An attitude adjustment, focus on patient care, an upgrade, and non-robot dentists + capable front office staff would help AFD become worth going back to.

I had an appointment for Feb. 19, 2019. It was a yearly cleaning. It is abt a 45 min, drive there. I arrive, told by lady at front desk "we don't take your insurance anymore has to be ppo and a letter was mailed out in Dec- we made a call to you at 10:15am. I am standing in the office at 10:30am. I state that if I had received the letter I would not be here and the call came in after I left the parking area in front of dentist office. I have been going to this dentist abt 14 years so this is so sad to be treated this way. Really sad, the lady didn't help much when she stated "I don't really work here???????? "Shame on you and the dentists that work there.

I called to ask about a tooth extraction and getting an appointment on Saturday. The lady acted like she didn't even want to help me nor schedule me a Saturday appointment. She sighed then put me on hold. I'm sorry but no one deserves to be treated that way.

The dentist himself does a fine job, but be prepared for a nightmare if the office staff has to lift a finger to communicate with your insurance company, because they flat out won't... After paying what we were told was our portion of the bill we still received bill after bill for over 2 months... Finally we called the insurance company any they had been waiting for the dentist office to confirm whether the crown was new or an old one being repaired.... After getting the office staff to reluctantly communicate with the insurance company we started receiving more bills for another 3 months and once again found out that the dentists office was not providing the insurance company with the requested information... Thank goodness the insurance company offered to conference call the dentists office with my wife on the line to get things resolved.... The poor service provided by the office personnel will have us looking elsewhere...

I went a few months ago and had 2 teeth pulled. it hurt just a little, but it was my first time. it was only fear. he was very comforting, I loved dr.carney. he would talk to me, and even though it felt as though it were 4 days, it only took about 5 minutes to get 2 teeth pulled. the staff in the waiting room are just a little rude, all of them were new and pretty darn helpful! as soon as I got my teeth pulled they let me In the treasure box (and I am almost 17) and I got a thing of bubbles for my sister. then that same day we made an appointment for a cleaning. that went amazing to. after that, we had to make an appointment for a filling and then they also made a cleaning appointment for my mom to fit our schedules perfect!!! the only thing I don't like is that dr.carney is there only on Tuesdays. Kerry did my cleaning, and she was amazing!!! hope this filling goes good (it will) and not like the Schneider guy I herd about (it won't) look up Howard s. Schneider and look at the awful things in Google reviews and YouTube vids!! but dr.carney is awesome and I definitely give five stars :) and also I forgot, he was completely honest and compatible. I am terrified of needles so I said "wait before you begin, can I ask a question?" he replied "of course. what is it?" I then asked "will there be any needles?" to witch he replied "yes, but only one, and your numbed you won't feel it. you know how I know? I'm doing it now." my mom knew this of course other wise she would be like "WHAT THE CRAP R U DOING TO MY KID?" but she knew.

About 5 months ago I had several fillings done here. My first issue is with the quality of their work: they drilled for a filling and neglected to fill it, then argued with me about whether or not they drilled it...I'm sorry do they think I drilled my own tooth? The second issue is that only two weeks after a filling was done, it came out (while eating a soft food). Then when I came in for the filling to be fixed, the assistant (when she learned I'm a veteran) actually had the *gall* to ask very personal questions about my combat experience .To Dr .Carney's credit he tried his best to get her to shut up, but she persisted. My third issue is just tonight, I had yet another filling pop out. A filling should definitely last longer than five months. Now I have to take even more time off from my job to fix something that should have been done right the first time. Dr .Carney himself and Wendy (one of the assistants) are wonderful. The rest of them should never be employed in a position where they deal with people.
