Daughter loves going to the dentist. She has had caps placed and is still not afraid. Would recommend to anyone. They are very friendly and great with kids. Only downside is that parents wait in waiting room for most of the appointment - that being said I think that helps with the fear factor in children.

They were very kind and helpful, encouraged our kids to come back to the exam room independently instead of with a parent after they turned 3, and explained all necessary work before beginning anything. They, like most other dental offices, required payment up front and were able to accept our insurance (Delta Dental) with no issues whatsoever. We used BH Pediatric Dentistry for all 3 of our kids before moving to a different state.

BHPD is not in my insurance network so I have some higher out-of-pocket costs, but I don't mind at all because this place is more than worth it. Due to a combination of factors my son has needed extensive dental work and oral surgeries since he was 3. Yet he still loves going to the dentist! The staff there is amazing; they do so much to take the fear out of getting dental work done. And they're if is specially trained for pediatric dentistry; they're not just dentists who happen to work in a pediatric clinic. Even 3 years later, they're still doing a great job with him. If you have that much of a problem with their "no parents" policy, here's a tip--Don't Go There.

I would NOT recommend this facility for smaller children . I have been to 2 other pediatric dentists in 2 other states Montana and Colorado , and they do things very differently. The biggest thing about this facility is they think they can take your child into the back room with out you . They seriously will not allow you to go in no matter what age . Any other place I have been to even when they had to do work on my 2 yr old daughter , it wasnt pleasant but they allowed me . The female doctor you could tell was very irritated , through her fake smile and her trying to stay calm when I told her she would not be taking my child anywhere . My twins are 3 , I WILL NEVER let a doctor no matter what take my child any where with out me knowing what's fully going on . The girls at the front desk aren't very pleasant either , I found one that smiled out of 4 . And the dental assistant was even less pleasant , she didn't smile and was very cold. PLEASE SOMEONE OPEN ANOTHER PEDIATRIC DENTISTRY IN RAPID ! For us parents who care what happens to our children!

45 minute wait with a waiting room full of kids not being taken care of. Kids jumping off chairs & climbing over all the toy cubes. Staff is usually great but the environment there has went down hill in the past few years. 1 1/2 for 2 kids to get their teeth cleaned!!

My son needed 3 cavities filled. His regular doctor sent him here to have that done. We waited on a list for 4 months before being seen. Dentist barely looks in his mouth and says they want to wait three months before they will consider fixing the cavities. We come back three months later. At this point the cavities were getting worse and chipping. Was told once again to come back in three months. It's now been 10 months since the referral. We go back and get told that there is nothing they will do at this point. When I got upset, I was told my options were "pull them or leave them". My son was only two at the time and these were three of his top front teeth. I drove 6 hours both ways and got him into a dentist in Sioux Falls who helped us immedietly. I would never recommend anyone bring their child to Black Hills Pediatric Dentistry.

This world is full of sickos and I hope that there isn't any there. I am sure they do backgrounds, but not all sickos have a recorded. IF neither parent can go in what is a parent to think?

I would highly recommend this dentist. Dr. Donhiser was fantastic. We travel full time and our daughter woke up with a toothache. We were nervous about seeing a dentist on the road and out of desperation called this office. They saw us that morning and fixed her tooth right up. The staff was very friendly and was sympathetic to our situation. We were leaving the next morning and they made sure our daughter got treatment that day. I only wish this office was in Atlanta.

I love that we got to meet back up with an awesome, kind, caring and patient Ms. Tayler. She assisted with my 2 year old daughter Gracie when she got her 4 teeth taken out. She helped take the nervousness away and truly showed concern for my child thru out her whole visit. I also thank the dentist was remarkably great he wasnt shy to set me straight on giving proper care and ways to help prevent loosing anymore teeth. All in all I was treated like family. Be prepared to wait in a noisy, anxiety inducing, waiting room. Parents are not allowed to sit in the back and help calm their children during routine operations. When my daughter begged for them to let me come and hold her hand or just be there with her while her cavity was filled, she said they made her feel bad for even asking. Also, their billing practices are asinine, be prepared to shell out what they see fit regardless of what your insurance covers. They would not let me leave until I paid a set percent of the bill which they made up. When I asked why it wasn't being covered by insurance, I was informed they charge the customer first then send it to insurance and will either cut you a check for overpayment or bill you the difference. Even after explaining that my insurance covers way more than the difference I was forced to pay and that I didn't bank locally and would be a pain to deposit their check they still wouldn't budge on their billing practice and will not just send a bill after (in case your wondering I have excellent credit and no prior issues with this company). To their credit some of the people they have working there were incredibly nice (only reason for second star), but if they handle personnel as arrogantly as their business practices I imagine there is a high turn around on their good employees.

This place is insane! Never have I or my child been treated so disrespectful. My daughter really didn't want to go and asked me to go back with her, I told her of course I would. The dental assistant/nurse gave my daughter a guilt trip and to get get to go back there by telling her things like: "come on even 3 year olds go back there by themselves", so she felt pressured to be braver than a 3 year old and pretended she was fine my daughter is already very shy and doesn't speak up and wouldn't be the type to do so if they were hurting her so I pulled her out, best decision I ever made!!! Because really what parent in their right mind sends a toddler alone unattended when the parent is the child's only advocate. Also sent my 11 year old son here out of a severe lack of pediatric dentists in the area that accept Medicaid, and they recommended PULLING 8 PERMANENT TEETH!!!!! After getting them pulled I learned that these tenth were COMPLETELY fixable!!!! They should have never been pulled he now has no back teeth to chew on and they won't give him any sort of implant etc and is screwed for the rest of his life. I'm disgusted that I ever trusted them to know what they we're doing, instead they are lazy and didn't want to work on 8 teeth..... I'm even more disgusted that because they are prenty much the only dental office that does offer care, accepting Medicaid, that they wouldn't do a better job.

As pediatric dentists go, this place is the least considerate toward the parents, especially those NOT on medicaid. They charge more than any dentist I’ve ever been to, and as other reviewers have mentioned, they seem to often insist on putting caps on baby teeth which is extremely expensive for teeth that will fall out. I can’t believe the strictness of their policy on kids coming back alone. If their goal is to prevent traumatic dental experience for children, then their policy is totally counterproductive. They’re pretty rotten to their employees and will fire them for no apparent reason. I strongly recommend to find another dentist. They try to exude an attitude of being “all about the child”, but that’s pretty far from the truth. They’re all about the money, with little to no consideration to the family or the child.

While visiting the area from out of town our 3yr old fell and we thought she cracked a tooth. We called several dentists in the area and Black Hills Pediatric was the only one willing to see us and they were even willing to keep the doors open until we got there. Knowing we would be out of pocket for expenses, and being totally unfamiliar with the area it was a roll of the dice for us. Walking in the door, they immediately made us and our daughter feel comfortable. They did some quick X-rays, the dentist completed an exam, they explained the issue and next steps. Throughout the staff could not have been better. The facilities seemed well equipped and the staff seemed better with kids than our dentist back home. I can't say we will ever use them again as we live 1,000 miles away, but the certainly have the things I look for when choosing a dentist back home.

My daughter has never had any fear going here. Everyone has always been very nice. My only complaint would be that I have never met the dentist. The assistant comes out to get my daughter and then brings her back when they are done. Even when she had a tooth pulled, an assistant came out to tell me what they needed to do. My daughter has gone there for 2 years and I have never met an actual dentist there.

My son busted his mouth on a waterslide on vacation. We spent the night in the ER. The next morning I spent 2 frustrating hours looking for a dentist to accept his insurance as well as see him right away. This was the only place and they were wonderful. My son busted 4 teeth they put them back in and put a splint on and sent his information to our dentist. They are amazing. Thank you everyone at the office

My daughter is not afraid of going to the Dentist because they take the time to make her feel comfortable before they start any procedure. She has had cleanings, crowns placed, and restorations. She has not complained of having any of those procedures done because she knows they will take good care of her during the procedure. I would highly recommend them to anyone!

Our fourth time back with our daughter. Such a great office staff with kind and compassionate doctors. We were at first alarmed when we weren’t allowed to go back with our daughter but realize now that she actually does better without us, it’s okay for kids to be brave on their own. I would recommend to anyone who needs quality care for their child. We’ve had fillings and crowns from these guys and just today had teeth pulled and sealants in anticipation for braces.

Extremely cap happy always wanting to put kids under and put caps on . We finally went for a second opinion after taking my three boys for two years. Our new dentists did a few filliings.Thier dentists are rude and money hungry they do not care about the children they only care about how much money they can scam out of people. Not to mention if you have a scheduled appointment make sure to show up an hour before so you can be seen at your appointment time.

I brought my 8 year old in.And something hurt her so she let out a scream and sat up a little.The dentist(I can't remember the name and front desk would not give it to me).When she did this,He grabbed her w both hands and sat her down firmly while putting his hand near her throat to then push her back into the chair.As he did this he said to her"Don't scream in my ear or I'll scream in yours!)I spoke w the manager and she wasn't trying to make things right.I'm so disappointed because I've brought all 3 of my girls here for 15 years.I want to not have to pay the 700$ bill,since I have to take my daughter somewhere else to finish his work and pay them.She's a cash kid.I could've spent that $700 somewhere where she was comfortable!!!!!!

Do not take your kids here, I repeat DO NOT TAKE YOUR KIDS HERE. Not only have I heard terrible horror stories from other parents but I have experienced one myself. We took our 2 year old son in to get a back tooth capped. They asked for me to stay in the waiting room because it would be easier on my son if I wasn't in the room. Now I know I should have listened to my instincts and said no but I am a first time mom and thought the dentist knew best. Boy was I wrong. My son came back out to the waiting room with tear stained cheeks and red patchy skin from screaming so hard. I found on his arm red dots like finger prints from someone holding him down I asked the assistant about them, she said oh we had to hold him down a bit. A little shaken up I went ahead and left only to fully examine my son over. His arms were bruised because they held him down with such force, you could clearly see the assistant hand prints on my two year olds arm. I was so upset for trusting the facility to treat my son with the best care and failing to do so. When I confronted them they acted as though it was normal to hold kids down and acted as though they did nothing wrong. 1. Never trust a dentist if they won't allow you back 2. They should have stopped if my son was this upset we should have talked about laughing gas or putting him under. Since this experience I have chosen a dentist in gering Nebraska with Wyoming pediatric dentistry and that experience has been 10 times better!!! I highly recommend them, but please do not take your kids to black hills.

This was our first big boy dentist appointment. Great experience from start to finish! Welcomed at the door. Sat in fun reception area for kids complete with Dr Seuss playing on the TV's. When called back I was invited to join for "consultation" with the hygienist. She explained everything to both of us. Made my son feel very comfortable from the get go! I went back to reception are and they went back to exam rooms. Soon after they came and got me x rays in hand. All good news! First the hygienist gave me the run down. Then the Dr came in and introduced himself and covered all info with me. It's great how they take the time to explain and make the little's comfortable with the process.

This place is nothing but a money scam and SO unsafe. When I got in there I saw a dental assistant and I was told that they like to do all the services on the kids without the parent in the room with them. I told her I was not comfortable with that and she said I could sit in. When the owner/dentist came in, I was told that my daughter couldn't have any services done UNLESS I agreed to let her go back without me. My daughter is 5 years old. I brought her in because she had 2 cavities and some tooth pain. She has a lapse of insurance coverage and they were willing to work with that, and so to get my daughter out of pain... I had to agree. They took her back for the tooth cleaning and when they tried to do the 2 shots to numb her, my daughter refused the second shot and wouldn't allow them to go further. I told them if they would let parents go back, they wouldn't have to put so many kids to sleep, of course recommending that's what I do now. And of course they said I wouldn't be able to sit with her while she is put to sleep either. On top of that, they have a strong reputation of throwing a silver cap on the teeth as opposed to fillings. When I told them I didn't want all silver caps on her, I preferred fillings if the caps weren't necessary... She told me I could go somewhere else then cause she wouldn't do it. They were rude, no empathy for the kids without their security and my daughter told me she asked them to get me several times and they denied coming to get me AND denied stopping although she asked repetitively. My daughter has NO reaso to lie to me and this is unacceptable!! Don't bring your kids here. There are several family dentistry offices that work on children and will allow you to be present. Not only that, but I will post an updated review on whether or not the new dentist says she has to have silver caps. They informed me two of her teeth would need caps per any dentist she would see, but they wanted to do 6 caps because my daughter is "high risk" for cavities just because she had them between her teeth to which i was honest about not flossing her teeth. I will post another review once I find out the prognosis from another dentist, which I'm positive will be different. Just because my daughter is on Medicaid doesn't mean I'm poor and stupid and you can take advantage of me and my child and do what you want. Several other offices with more knowledge and that are less money hungry to run cap scams are available. Beware!! Any office that won't allow you to go back with your child could very well be doing things they don't want you to see, or not doing things they should be. My daughter is more comfortable with me around, so they're logic is nuts.

I would not recommend this practice. My wife took our 3yo there about 6mo ago and had to wait over an hour after her scheduled apt. Running behind in a facility like this is common and we wanted to give them a second chance. But after our second apt today we won't be going back. I took my 3yo in this time. Got in pretty fast but felt really rushed. The doc did not explain anything she was doing to me or my child and was running though the checkup so fast I didn't have time to ask any questions about what she was doing to my kid. Her records show special instructions which were NOT followed which I could have caught if the doc was actually communicating. Wife called in to lodge a complaint but was put on hold for some while they figured out who she was suppose to talk to and was then disconnected. To their credit they called back to hear the complaint and apologize. But they is as far as it has gone so far...

The reason why I am giving a review is because my kids have told me very bad things about this place. My oldest whom is 13 said he will never go back there due to them being mean and not numbing his cheek before the shots and they would yell at him. Also asked my 7 yr old which has sensory and ADHD were they mean and he started crying saying yes mommy. I called community health dental got them in and they are the best ever. My kids are now glad to go to the dentist again.

Be AWARE, if you take your child to this dentist, there is a NO PARENTS policy. I don't know what parent in their right mind would send a 4 year old behind closed doors with a STRANGER for ANY reason, much less for a medical procedure that could be scary or painful. As a parent it is MY responsibility to look after my child and comfort them as well as be present for ALL medical procedures. I was appalled that this policy was not made known upfront. As it was I wasted an entire day getting to RC from out of town, and spent money on a tank of gas only to leave with no treatment. Sorry BHPD but my "policy" is to parent my own children!!!

We love this place, been taking my kids here for 10 years. Staff is amazing, they do amazing at getting my 2 kids in at the same times so i don't have to make separate trips, the kids are comfortable going back alone, we've never once had any problems or felt we weren't informed of what's happening. Brought my 2 year old in for his very first dental check up. He was nervous and shy. We seen Dr. Jobman and she was phenomenal! She was patient, understanding and great bedside manner with kids. She made us feel welcome and was extremely knowledgeable. Definitely recommend her and recommend the facility. The staff was very warm and welcoming and my boys loved the visit!

My kids have gone to Black Hills Pediatric Dentistry for several years now and we have always had a great experience with the staff and the dentists. They are great with my kids, and when my son needed multiple fillings, they helped us create a plan of action to get them done in a way that worked for us.

NOT SAFE. You don't willingly send your kid back with strangers, so we didn't. My husband went back with him much to their disapproval. No safety consideration from staff. Doctor was a jerk, nurses were uneducated rips. Only used them because we were referred and there was no other option with our kids condition. They pride themselves on being kid friendly but are so far from that it's ridiculous. Wish there was a better option. GO ELSEWHERE IF POSSIBLE. Manager ended up coming down and was no help. But they have no reason to improve because people keep coming there. DISGUSTING

First time going here and I was disappointed. I would not recommend this place if you DONT HAVE MEDICAID. We have our own insurance and to get my sons two teeth crowned would cost $2,800, which has to be all be paid by his appointment. We had to pay the total co-pay which was $200 before we left. I think this is ridiculous! Maybe they treat the people with Medicaid better? I felt like it was all about how much money they could get out of us, and not the health of my child. Overall did not like this place!
