Does an “honest” dentist exist anymore? I do NOT recommend Midtown Dental (Dr. Nabizadeh) unless you do not care that you pay whatever amount they feel like charging you. Having lived in Midtown for 1 ½ years, I am now searching for a new dentist #4, all due to improper billing and up-charging. The last dentist I saw was Dr. Nabizadeh at Midtown Dental on Louisiana. I needed a crown replaced. The work was performed (to my satisfaction). I was asked to pay what the office estimated to be my charges (dentist is in-network for my insurance plan). When I received the Explanation of Benefits from my insurance, I saw that I overpaid by $250. I asked the doctor’s office and was told I was responsible for other extra charges for which the insurance company said I should not pay. The office administrator said that dental insurance is not really “insurance” but a “discount program”. I called my insurance company and was told that, of course, what I was told by Midtown Dental is not correct! I am only responsible for the amount insurance indicates because it is a contracted amount with the dentist since he is in-network. I have filed a complaint through my insurance company to try to get $250 back. I waited to post this comment to give time (2 months) for my insurance company to try to resolve this issue with Midtown Dental. Midtown Dental refuses to respond to my insurance company.

Midtown Dental could easily blend in with the hip, downtown nightlife scene reminiscent of its surrounding neighborhood. The clean and trendy lounge is a nice touch, however compensatory for everything this office lacks as dental professionals. Their sales pitch for up-selling unnecessary procedures is designed to be intimidating, but ultimately came across as unprofessional and borderline insulting. I have a good sense for smelling out the used car salesman vibe. This was more like the cocktail waitress winking at you to buy bottle service. However, after not purchasing a few thousand dollars worth of something I didn't need, I was informed they would not simply do what was needed and covered by my insurance. A basic, routine cleaning from a dentist close to where I live. Of course, after a little drive and a second opinion it was easy to a new dentist after relocating to Houston. He confirmed my suspicion that my teeth were in perfect health, and my cleaning was completed the next day without a dime spent out of pocket. Months later, I received a bill from Midtown Dental for an addition amount above the co-pay (not charged at the the other office) due to a "miscommunication" between the office and my insurance. I'm not a big online review guy. However, after having wasted my time and money I hope this will save someone else the headache. Keep it simple. Brush, floss, and avoid Midtown Dental.

My wife and I have been going here for several years and a recent experience exemplified the service here and inspired this review. I had a filling pop out and required expeditious attention. I called at 4pm and had an appointment booked for the following day. I was 5 minutes late and called ahead to verify that I was en route, and they said no problem. By the time I got there, they had already run all the paperwork (new year, new insurance coverage) and brought me back. Didn't feel the needle, no pain during the procedure, utmost professionalism by the entire staff. I was out of the office in under 45 minutes from my arrival. The new filling is working out great. I will continue to see Dr. Nab for a long time and continue to recommend him to my friends - this place is really excellent.

(Disclosure: I was offered a free fluoride treatment in exchange for writing a review, but I had already recommended Dr. Nab to friends without any incentive.) I've been going to Midtown Dental (not to be confused with other dentists' offices in Houston with similar names) for 8 years now, and I really like it. The décor is chic and non-medical, and everyone is super friendly, putting you at ease. The first time I went I thought it looked like a medi-spa, and I was nervous I was going to be pressured into cosmetic treatments, but I have never been offered any, not even whitening--which I appreciate, as I really just care about the health of my teeth and gums. There are TVs in every treatment room, with the option of wearing headphones during your cleaning. And the hygienists (I usually have Cynthia) are very skilled and knowledgeable. Dr. Nab comes in at the end to look over your teeth and review your images, and it never feels like he is rushing, always answering any questions I may have. Like most doctors'/dentists' offices, their hours can be limited in terms of early closures on Fridays and during lunchtime, but as someone who has to arrive at work early in the morning, the 7:00 am appointments are very practical for me. The location is also very convenient to Downtown and 59.

I started treatment two years ago because a friend recommended Dr. Nab. He spends time to check your situation and make sure you are comfortable with your treatment. After two years I did not face any problem with my teeth and from now on every time I go there for cleaning they check it out to make sure nothing unusual has occurred. If you need a perfect Crown done fast Dr Schmid is the man to see. I am visiting Bismark and was having a lot of issues with my old Crown. Dr Schmid not only replaced my old crown but fixed a few cavities ON THE SAME DAY!! The new Crown fit perfectly which was a first for me! Staff is awesome, facilities are clean and orderly. I was even able to get the rest of my family in to see him while we were here. He will be on my next vacation schedule for sure.

I had my second visit to Midtown Dental today. I moved from Southern California to Houston in December and was in need of a new dentist here in town. I had always had a great experience at my previous dentist's office, and was nervous about finding a new one. A friend recommended me to Midtown Dental pretty early on and I had my first visit in March 2018. That visit, along with today's visit, were fantastic. Dr. Nab is very knowledgable and I was very pleased with his work. He was friendly and we had a pleasant conversation prior to the dental inspection. Additionally, during both instances, I experienced great staff. Both staff members which cleaned my teeth had been great. They were continuously ensuring I was comfortable with the layer of service they were providing, and that I was not experiencing any discomfort during the cleaning. The environment is clean, and I enjoy the music selection that is playing. Additionally, they have some great technology that I wasn't aware of in the dental field, so it's nice to know they are staying current with the latest in oral healthcare. Overall, I am very pleased with Midtown Dental, Dr. Nab, and his staff. I have already begun referring friends and family to this Dental office.
