Called several times to make an appointment, keep getting told different information by different people, keep getting transferred to other extensions, was eventually asked to email a professor who never returned my email or phone call. Oh well, they lost a customer.

Student was very friendly, we talked thru every procedure, did good work price was good, long trip but worth it.

I've been calling to schedule an appointment for 6 months now and couldn't get in contact. Its either they never answer, or they keep transferring me, or the appointments are done for the season. Even when i call to urgent care i couldn't get in contact. I had a filling there 5 years ago and its a mess now and i couldn't get to them its so frustrating.

It's 2pm and call as my dad is visiting me and his tooth broke. He's post open heart too. This was explained to someone named Monti that informed me that they were closed early due to graduation. She also told me that there were NO emergency services available at UNC that I would have to call back Monday!!! This person has no business interacting with the public in any fashion and could have cared less.

Unfortunately my experience was less than stellar, upon my last few visits. The rates are really no better than going to a regular dentist, which kind of defeats the purpose of helping those in low (or no) income situations. I understand this is a "teaching" program, but having a dental student and dental professional sit in the room and talk ABOUT me, rather than TO me was not only unprofessional, but just plain RUDE. I heard words that were actually starting to scare me, but not once did either of them try to explain to ME what issues I was facing, and what would need to be done to resolve them. They discussed my x-rays without ever bothering to acknowledge I was in the room. Even worse, I overheard students actually making fun of me, while I sat in a chair, with my mouth pried open, unable to speak or move. Then someone had the gall to say (not to ME, of course) it was "my own fault" for not taking care of my teeth, unaware and uncaring of the fact that I came from a low-income family, who didn't take me to my first dentist visit until I was sixteen years old, or the fact that I had not even really been fully educated about dental care, until I was in my early twenties, which by that point I had more than a few problems with my teeth, due to my lack of knowledge and education about dental care, and the fact that I didn't have the means to visit a dentist regularly. My last visit ensured I would never return to this program again, after (yet again) having them talk about me, rather than TO me, and fail to provide me with any information about what exactly was wrong with my teeth/gums. While the students here are capable, my personal experience is that they lack any "bedside manner" or professionalism, when it comes to treating people kindly, or talking to them about their dental care and how to resolve present issues and prevent future ones. I would not recommend this program to anyone who had another option. Much of the time it was as if the "right hand had no idea what the left hand was doing" and vice versa. They are incredibly difficult to get on the phone, they don't return calls, and overall I find much of the staff/students there unprofessional, and lacking empathy.

Patient Care. Costs. It's stated that the costs are about 1/3 (also, depending on skill level, student/graduate), compared to some private dentist practice. There is no fee list published. Considering that costs are comparable to average dental insurance plan (keep in mind that no insurance is accepted) and that the aim of the treatment will not be targeted at one dental issue but an overall improvement of all teeth/bite (which can add up to the cost of a car), there seems to be no benefit to receive services from an inexperienced student. Unfortunately.

I very much enjoyed taking my Expanded Duties there! Great instructors and beautiful facility!

I have had 3 wisdom teeth removed (2 with MAJOR issues) here and wouldn't go anywhere else. Just because they are students doesn't mean they don't know what they are doing!!!! Never had a problem reaching someone when calling either. Great place with great people!!

Parents beware! Daughter is currently getting braces here. She is a high sch student & has missed many classes due to their schedule. Be very aware that the ONLY appointments they have available are DURING school hours, & only TWO DAYS a month. If your student orthodontist is doing training, on vacation, etc. you have to wait 6-8 weeks between appointments. If you have to reschedule, it could be 4-6 weeks later. I've had to wait up to 8 weeks for our next appointment. Also, you have to park in the parking deck, cross the busy road (pedestrian bridge is out), navigate construction, then the halls, & finally the elevator. Be prepared to receive many, many schools excuses over the years like the one in the picture. Cost us $4000+. The only reason I am giving 3 stars is because the staff/Docs are nice.

Impossible to get someone to answer the phone. Called 25 times in a 5 hour period and when they finally answered they asked if I could hold and then hung up.

I also have been calling and could not get anyone. I called today and the young lady that answered the phone had NO customer service. This is UNC for god sake. Customer service is very important.

Many, many years ago I recceived very good work. I applied again approximately two years ago and called a couple times but never got a response from anyone. I believe the school does have communication issues.

Alexis Wilmore

Called to ask a simple question and the guy who answer was EXTREMELY rude! You work at a school...get over yourself! Worst customer service

I don’t like how they treated my mother - their students are allowed to talk down to people. The student selected to work on my mother had horrible people skills and drilled her tooth down so far that a root canal is no longer an option. Partials or an implant is now required due to her lack of knowledge.

I have been trying to reach someone at The UNC Dental school to inquire about the services they offer. I have extensive dental work that needs to be done as soon as possible. Does anyone know how I can contact them successfully?

I went in to get a consultation on getting corrective jaw surgery. I was contacted about a month after getting all of the molds, xrays, and pictures done. Dr. Blakey explained the procedure, the risks, and everything it entailed. I told him right then I wanted the surgery but he wanted me to think it over because it is an appearance and life altering surgery. He told me once I had a decision to email his assistant with my answer. The weekend past and on Monday I emailed his assistant with my decision to go forward with the surgery. A week had past and still no response. I emailed multiple times and still no response. I was getting the feeling Dr. Blakey really didn't want to do the surgery. My orthodontist had to get in touch with Dr. Blakey to see why it was taking so long. At this point I had been waiting for some kind of response for almost 3 months. Dr. Blakey's assistant called my work phone number and left a message. Mind you every other call I had gotten from them was to my cell phone. I called back an hour after I missed the call and got the assistants voicemail. I left a voicemail. Everyday for 3 weeks straight (In October 2015), I called and got the voicemail every time.To this day(April 2016) I never got a response. It was important for me to get the surgery as soon as possible as I'm getting married May 29, 2016 and wanted to make sure I had enough time to heal. I ended up going with another surgeon and had to pay again to have molds, xrays and photos taken. I was very disappointed because I heard great things about Dr. Blakey.

I can't rate the service because i can't even reach them. I called many times and every time i try a different number on the operator maybe someone picks up, and yet i get the same "our operators are busy assisting other customers, goodbye" without even asking to leave a voice message.

My daughter had a jaw problem for 10 months. No local MD or Dentist could offer any solutions. Some even told her that she would have to live with the condition, which was constant pain everyday, not to mention the inability to eat. She lost close to 40 pounds. After months of searching for a solution we located Dr. Nigel Matthews at the UNC School of Dentistry, who was recommended by about the 8th Dr. that she visited. Dr. Matthews performed multiple tests, and showed sincere concern. Surgery was performed, and after less than a month, she is 95% back to normal. Dr. Matthews is HIGHLY recommended. None better.

They extracted one of my wisdom tooth. Dr. Casey was very professional and treated me with exceptional care and explained to me in detail all the risks involved. My surgery with her went perfect.

We have been trying for weeks to cancel an appointment but nobody ever answers the phone. We watched the employees when we were there running their mouths and kidding among each other and NEVER answered the phones. We called while we were there just to make sure and it got confirmed. Worst customer service EVER and the dentist was rude too. I would love a job where I get paid for NOT doing my job!!! We are in the process to file a formal complaint!!

Janeth Lazo

they made me the X-rays for $ 80 dolars, and left me waiting, do not call me, I went there because I need your service.

Had X-rays taken the beginning of November. I still haven't been contacted in any form. I'll need more X-rays by the time they call me. They could at least have called!

I called the dental school “dentistry school” and my girlfriend (studying here) scolded me

This place sucks and we haven’t even had our appointment yet! I set up an appointment for my boyfriend and I spelled his name for the woman but when his package of papers came in the mail, his name was spelled incorrectly!! And I tried to call them about 15 minutes before 5:00pm, but the phones were “busy” and once 5:00 hit, it just hung up on me! They’re very unprofessional. If we had any other option, we’d gladly take it, but sadly, we’re stuck with this sad excuse for a dental facility. Don’t waste your time here.

I've been going to the dentists here for about 6 months now. The student dentists are great people and their overseeing instructors are too. It may be a bit of a drive, but it is well worth it.

If you ever need top contact them reguarding your appointment you may just miss it cause they either forward you to someone you don't need to talk to or second you to voice mail during business hours they are VERY unprofessional and their employees lack knowledge of information their job requires them to know I just missed a appointment because I was unable to speak with someone in reference to location and verification

Never go to UNC dentistry, horrible quality and very poor knowledge, especially in the root canal department. Avoid Eric Rivera unless you want to have a permanent damage to yourself.

They're terribly difficult to contact. Can't leave a voicemail or anything to let them know if you have to cancel. Wish I could add more as to the services, but I doubt I'll be able to anytime soon. No one answers the phone!

Was dismissed as a student after 3 years for "lack of professional promise." Grew up in North Carolina, National Merit Scholar, early acceptance, middle of my class going into senior year, these people send me a fax first day of rotation while I am in Florida that I am kicked out. Try to recover from that, let alone a tothache.

My cyst removal was great but you can never get in touch with them. When you leave a voice mail they never call back. Ive been waiting for them to send a important letter but they have not did that yet it's been nearly 2 months.

Cassandra Wladyslava

I had a very odd experience. I was given a referral here and after a month or so was called to make an appointment. I unfortunately missed that call, but called back and got hold of someone right away. What was strange was the woman I talked to insisted they never called me and transferred me over to someone else, who attempted to transfer me back to the person I had just talked with - who again claimed they never called me and also said they had no record of me. Well, I saved the voice mail they had left and played it for them, proving once and for all they had called me and that I was supposed to set up an appointment. After this I was told my dentist would have to resend the referral. I ended up waiting another several months before hearing back. I finally have an appointment set up now, and I hope things go well. EDIT: Had my appointment. It went very well. Everyone was friendly and the doctor I spoke with put me at ease (I have ondontophobia) and answered all my questions. The only downside was the cost. I paid close to $100 to basically just be told to make another appointment to get my teeth extracted. I had a small, 2 minute exam done. They already knew which teeth needed to be taken care of because it was explained in my referral sheet. It seems I could have easily skipped the "consultation" and just made the appointment to get my teeth pulled and saved the money and gas.
